Chapter 11: Surfing

"Last time on Totally Epic: Hawaiian Style, the boys and girls split into teams and had a camping trip. With limited supplies, rainy weather, and bugs they spent a rough night. In the end, the girls lost, due to Lucky talking to the forest animals, and she was voted off. The number of contestants are dwindling, and we're nearing the end. Who'll be next to leave? Find out now on Totally Epic: Hawaiian Style." Monica announced.

The next day in the mess hall, everyone was having breakfast. Setsuna and Edu were sitting together, Kahlin was looking at his tarot cards, Vivian was happily eating her eggs, and Johnny was eating his breakfast, while thinking about the show.

"I've been thinking, I could win this thing. It would be good for to represent my home state. But would people think the show's rigged?" Johnny said to the audience.

Then Monica walked in.

"Good morning final five. Your next challenge will begin in an hour, and be ready to get back in the water." she announced.

"Aw man." complained Edu.

"Don't worry, Edu. You'll be okay." Setsuna comforted.

He smiled at her.

"Setsuna's really nice. I hope we could become an item." Edu hoped.

"I've never met a guy like Edu before." Setsuna confessed.

"While I've flirted with lots of guys before, none of them have made me feel like this before."

An hour later, the teens were down at the beach in their bathing suits. Charlotte appeared wearing her bathing suit.

"Hey, Charlotte. Where are Monica and Hailey?"

"They'll be along. In fact, here they come now."

She pointed out to sea, and the teens looked. They saw Monica and Hailey riding surf boards on the water. This surprised the contestants, as the two came rolling in on a wave.

"Aloha everyone, I hope you're ready to hang 10. Because for this challenge you'll be surfing." Monica told them.

That sounded like fun to everyone but Edu.

"Now you'll each need a surfboard." Hailey said.

And just like that, another intern drove up on an ATV with a small trailer behind him; on it were five surfboards.

"Pick your boards."

And that's what the contestants did.

"Now surfing may sound hard, but it's actually pretty easy." Monica told them.

She instructed them on how to surf, using Charlotte as a model.

"You'll each have five minutes to practice. After that we'll get on with the challenge."

And the three left.

"I can't believe we're gonna surf." Vivian told the audience.

"It looks fun on TV."

The teens practiced on the sand, and while some of them got the hang of it, Edu looked like he was struggling.

"You okay, Edu?" asked Johnny.

"I'm fine. Just nervous about this challenge." he replied.

"Don't worry, surfing isn't that bad. All you have to do is stay on the board."

"I hope so."

"Hey, Setsuna you ever surf before?" wondered Vivian.

"No, but I can't wait to try it."

Kahlin was walking by them, but his board almost hit Vivian's head.

"Hey, watch it." she told him.

"Oops, sorry, Vivian." Kahlin replied.

Just then, Monica came back with Hailey and Charlotte.

"All right everyone, it's time to hit the waves." she announced through her megaphone.

The teens then grabbed their boards, and ran to the shoreline.

Once they were all there, Monica gave further instructions.

"We got some waves rolling in, and one by one you'll each show off your skills on the water. Whoever impresses us the most will win and receive a prize of a brand new surfboard. The loser will be going home."

"Instant elimination? They might as well say, "Edu go home." Edu said.

"All right, who's up first?" Charlotte asked.

"Volunteers?" wondered Hailey.

Setsuna was the first to step forward.

"I'll go." she told them.

"Then get on out there." Monica instructed.

Setsuna then went into the water on her board, and waited for a wave. When one came in, she did her thing. The others watched her from the beach, and the two hostesses were watching through binoculars.

"So far, Setsuna's doing good." observed Monica.

"Go Setsuna!" cheered Vivian.

"You can do it!" Edu yelled.

She kept her balance, and rode the wave, and felt the water on her skin. When the wave dies down, she rode back onto shore.

"Ta da!" Setsuna cheered.

"Very good, Setsuna. Who's next?" Monica wanted to know.

"I'll go." volunteered Kahlin.

And off he went into the water. He caught a wave, and started to surf. He was a little wobbly, and almost fell off. But he was able to stay on his board, and rode in.

"A little wobbly, but not to bad." Hailey told him.

"Next." Monica called.

Johnny went next, and rode the waves like a pro. He even managed to do a cool spin trick.

"Awesome!" cheered Charlotte.

Pepper squeaked in agreement. Then Johnny rode back in, looking victorious.

"Amazing job out there, Johnny." complimented Hailey.

"Thank you, ladies."

Then it was Edu's turn.

"You can do it, Edu." encouraged Setsuna.

And the others cheered him on.

"Okay, Edu. Let's do this." he whispered to himself.

He paddled into the water, and when the wave came in he popped up on his board. He struggled to keep his balance as he rode the wave.

"Whoa, whoa." he said.

He managed to stay on the board, but the wave came crashing down on him, and fell off his board and into the water.

"Looks like Edu's had a wipe out." observed Charlotte.

"You're gonna help him right?" Setsuna wanted to know.

"Not to worry, we're on it." Monica assured.

She signals to some of her interns, and they got in a boat, and sailed off to go get him.

A couple minutes later, the interns came back with Edu.

"That was a good effort Edu, but I'm afraid it doesn't impress."

"I knew it." Edu replied, as he got out of the boat.

And finally it was Vivian's turn. She managed to ride the waves well.

"Yehaw!" she yelled, as she rode.

She impressed the hostesses, and the others complimented her.

"You did good everyone, and showed good effort out there. But unfortunately, Edu because of your poor performance, you're out of here." Monica told.

"Aw man." Edu complained.

Setsuna looked sad, while Edu looked disappointed.

That evening, Edu packed his things, and got ready to leave.

"Edu wait." called a voice.

He turned around, and saw Setsuna running towards him. Before he could even open his mouth, Setsuna threw her arms around him and kissed him. This caught him off guard, but he returned the kiss. When they broke apart, they smiled at each other.

"You think when this is all over, we can keep in touch?" he requested.

"I'd love that."

She then pulled out a piece of paper.

"Here's my number, be sure to call me."

"I will."

And then he left.

"Well there goes another contestant. We're getting close to the end now. Find out what happens next and who'll go on Totally Epic: Hawaiian Style." Monica announced.
