Disclaimer: I don't own Fuller House
It was a bright sunny afternoon when the lives of the Fuller family changed. Max burst into the house.
"Family meeting! I have a huge surprise for everyone."
Everyone came into the den. They all sat down.
"Well Max," DJ said, "What's the surprise?"
"I guess I'd better start at the beginning," Max said, "But I don't know where the beginning is. The thing is… sometimes things aren't the way they seem. You know, my teacher taught me that. Sometimes things are a little less than obvious. We make assumptions based on what we know. What if we don't know the whole story?"
"This sounds like a long story," Jackson said.
"Well, actually it's not. I know you wouldn't believe me if I told you, so I'm going to show you."
Max went to the door and opened it.
"Oh Mylanta," DJ exclaimed.
"Is this real," Jackson asked, "Someone pinch me because am I just dreaming this."
"Max," DJ hugged him, "How did you do this?"
"Is dat daddy," Tommy Jr. asked.
Tommy Jr. had never met his father, but he had seen pictures all over the house. DJ, Jackson, and Max had told him all about his daddy.
"I know this must be a shock," Tommy said, "I-"
DJ hugged him tightly. So did Jackson and Max.
"But how is it possible," DJ asked.
Tommy sat down.
Tommy had been burned beyond recognition in 911. He had been assumed dead. He was in the hospital for months. He had no place to go when he came out. He had no ID. It was all burned up in the flame. He also had no memory of who he was before the fire.
One day Max had been online. Tommy was online too under a new name. He had no memory of his old account. Max had messaged Tommy in a chat room. They spoke online every day for a long time. Then, one day they video-chatted. Max started to cry tears of joy the moment he saw Tommy.
"I know who you are," Max told Tommy.
"You do? That's great. Who am I?"
Max filled Tommy in.
"I started remembering things very slowly," Tommy said, "But I did start to remember them. There's still a lot I have to learn but I love you all so much."
DJ couldn't speak.
"Max," she finally said after she kissed Tommy, "Thank you for reuniting our family. I am so proud of you."
"Thanks, mom," Max grinned.
"Normally you would be in trouble for giving information to a stranger online like our phone number but-"
"Deej," Tommy said, "He didn't give me our phone number. We Facetimed."
"Don't you need personal information IE a phone number to Facetime?"
"Not if you do it through the computer," Tommy said.
That was the best day of the Fuller family's life. Max was a personal hero to the family. Jackson treated him like gold for years to come after that. DJ would have given him anything he wanted whenever he wanted after that, but Max realized that wouldn't be good for him and didn't ask for much. He had already gotten what he wanted most of all. He had his father back home. His mother was happy. Jackson was happy. Tommy Jr. would grow up knowing his dad.
Please note this is an AU story. DJ isn't married to Steve. It's just her and the boys in the Fuller house. Stephanie, Ramona, and Kimmy, as well as Fernando, aren't there either.
