BROKEN
It had started slowly.
Like the hot chocolate that Kaito liked so much. Shinichi didn't even try to win him over. All he had to do was put that great brain of his into operation, even before the detective returned to his normal size and for obvious reasons, he had not gone one step further to come on to the detective.Luckily, the wait didn't last long. Now, knowing that Kudo really was the same age as him, as well as Ran and Shinichi having a little discussion regarding their relationship, everything began to go well for him and his relationship with the detective.
However, the change of the relationship between the two of them did not come immediately. Shinichi was meticulous or maybe he hadn't considered the idea of dating the magician and Kaito knew it; After all, he himself had fallen in love with him for something. So, it was a welcome surprise that the detective started flirting, and even more so that he was back in his normal body. Comment by Gastbenutzer: the 'at first' needs to be at the end. Also not sure what you mean with 'for something'.
Kaito liked the adrenaline and having someone to be authentic with and not have to keep secrets from. The detective allowed Kaito to be himself without fear of being judged or harming the other individual because of his slippery tongue; and he was sure Shinichi felt the same way.
It was certainly nice, that kind of love.
"Shinichi, are you sure we can afford this?" Kaito spoke as he looked at the food which, for once, showed no trace of being burned; he knew that Shinichi hardly cooked, so it was a pleasant surprise that he took the time to take him to lunch and give him a REALLY decent meal.
Shinichi shrugged, dismissing the obvious, simply saying for him to sit back and enjoy what he had prepared for both of them. And Kaito didn't need to be told twice. Without thinking anymore, he began to gobble down his food, chattering -between sighs and groans of satisfaction- how delicious the food was.
"Kaito, I thought about studying in Ekoda," he commented suddenly. Kaito looked up and he could swear that Shinichi was plotting something else. His eyes were serious, and he was hoping that Kaito wouldn't say something that could destroy his plans, like if he was controlling the area.
"Are you sure?" Interested, Kaito stopped eating to focus all his attention on the detective.
"Sure, I could use a change of scenery. Close old wounds and meet new people as well."
Kaito just looked at him, and carefully considered what he should say next. But in Kaito's defence: Why shouldn't he want Shinichi close to him? Shinichi was his boyfriend, Kaito was in love, and as such, he wanted the other for himself. So, he blurted out the words he wanted to say:
"Sure, that would be nice, Shinichi."
…
He probably should have thought better of it.
Or maybe not.
Shinichi started living with him soon anyways.
In a short time, Shinichi was settling down. Little by little, flooding Kaito's senses and every aspect of his daily life. Kaito didn't care. He was nice, he felt accompanied and wanted… Much more than his family ever made him feel. It was a really nice change in his life.
Not to mention that having Shinichi in the same classroom allowed him to open up fun debates which gave the impression that Hakuba's brain – and Kudo's as well – grew fatter with each riddle; Kaito had limited himself to observing those discussions, something for which the teachers and classmates, who knew that the magician was anything but calm, were grateful for.
And after a couple weeks, the detective had taken it upon himself to be the centre of attention in his classroom. Charming laughs for a split second, clever comments, and impeccable deductions for his classmates; a group of women (and perhaps an occasional man as well -Kaito was not judging-) even had created a "study" group that had become much more than that. The magician was a little envious, but he hadn't taken the affections of others towards Shinichi seriously. After all, the detective had become quite devoted to him.
Shinichi's devotion felt a little strange, out of place… But his mind said no more, after all, it was nice to be loved and to not be alone.
"You're dating him," akako stated once, her lips pursed as she watched Kaito devour a strawberry shortcake -courtesy of Aoko, for her birthday.
"Uhm?" Kaito looked up to see the witch with her arms crossed. "And what about that?"
The woman frowned more, biting her lower lip. Kaito was going to indicate that she would probably break her lips doing this but he didn't have time to indicate anything since Akako started to chatter again.
"Kudo Shinichi is not someone trustworthy."
Kaito rolled his eyes at the woman's comment and stopped eating to look at her with a frown. "Hey, I thought you were going to leave this whole 'going after anyone who likes me'-show, after you started dating Hakuba. What's that about now?"
Akako sighed, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. "I'm not doing this for a twisted pleasure in seeing you suffer; in fact, it's the opposite, Kuroba."
"And how does this affect you…"
"Kudo is not what he seems, he has been swimming in the dark for a long time and honestly Kaito, I don't want you to deal with it."
"How weird can Shinichi be? Apart from his lousy taste in dressing."
Akako took a deep breath. "I just wanted to tell you this, Kuroba. Even Hakuba has started to notice things".
However, Kaito didn't notice anything strange. Akako didn't mention the Kudo issue again and he continued to be delighted with the attention the detective gave him.
Although, even if the conversation with Akako didn't have happened, Kaito still wouldn't had time to observe Shinichi carefully since from one moment to the next, his own problems with Pandora began to take a nosedive. His robberies became increasingly difficult to carry out. At first, he thought that he could handle his daily life and his night work, but from one moment to the next, everything became too much for him. Shinichi had commented that it would be advisable to stop. He said that Pandora was interfering with his daily life, that the possible jewel would not escape his hands, and that he should take a break.
And so he did. It was good to rest and take some time for himself. However, after a few months, when he returned, there was no trace of the men in black, and by extension: no trace of Snake.
The days that passed became more enjoyable for Kaito. Going out with Shinichi, police parties where the detective was always invited, going out to different parts of the world, even though Kaito refused to let Shinichi spend so much. Little by little, Shinichi began to interact with Kaito's circle of friends, completely forgetting about Ran and the rest of his former classmates.
Then things got a little weird. However, Kaito chalked it up to him picking on Aoko more often, she deserved it for giving him a hard time.
Just friendly games.
Aoko wasn't bad, even if she used his phobia to break him.
She was a good girl.
" A friend does not use a phobia no matter how annoying you are"
Shinichi thought otherwise.
"Kaito, are you alright?" Shinichi asked noticing how Kaito's face turned blue. The mage obviously wasn't breathing well due to the difficulty in his lungs to suck in air, but too busy with his growing panic to notice. Kaito, breathe.
In the background, Shinichi heard Aoko laughing softly indicating that the other deserved it for messing with her father's work.
Kaito watched Shinichi blink; he could swear he saw a flash of indignation and anger mixing together, however, filling his lungs with air was paramount at the moment. He pursed his lips, not knowing exactly what to answer to Shinichi's question.
"S-Shinichi…" he gasped, squeezing the older man's sleeves to steady himself, trying to keep up with Shinichi's even breathing. "Sorry. Can we go home?"
"Kudo… I don't think it's necessary, Kaito always recovers. That's why I don't think much about him hating fish, "aoko commented, not realizing the heavy aura that the detective was exuding. "He is always snooping on my father's cases."
Kaito deserves it.
Kaito is always annoying.
Kaito is always flouting the law.
Aoko had to reason with him.
Shinichi was already sick of it.
Shinichi knows this was wrong. That he was violating an endless number of laws that, in another context, he would have already dragged himself to the nearest jail for having broken them. However, Shinichi is weak, his mind refused to destroy the only good thing he had, the only person who did not seem disappointed in him, his constant mistakes and bad decisions; And boy, did he make many. Starting with his relationship with Ran ending because of the same lack of concern for her and her sense of duty. Comment by Gastbenutzer: Shinichi is breaking laws? Or is this referring to Aoko? Not really sure what this is referring ment by Angelica Rodriguez: oh in the part where Shinichi talks about breaking the rules he refers to himself, he knows that what he is thinking is wrong, however he is so obsessed with Kaito that he will do anything for him
But this time he was going to learn from his mistakes. Kaito would be his only priority.
"Aoko…" Shinichi said, smiling as he waited for the girl to look in his direction. "Can we talk?"
Aoko blinked and nodding as she gathered up her things to go after the detective. "I thought you wanted be with Kaito." She commented following in the other's footsteps.
Once they were outside the premises, Shinichi turned around.
'Aoko, you know what a phobia is, don't you?"
Aoko raised a doubtful eyebrow. Shinichi sighed again. How could she be so volatile?
"What…what are you talking about?"
"A Phobia is a disorder of the mind. The individual suffers from a fear that is difficult to control; it can even lead to terror followed by panic. Three states where the victim's body releases various hormones for its survival…."
Aoko blinked, feeling suddenly uncomfortable; however, Shinichi kept talking.
"The body does its best to stay alive in the face of a threat; preparing ourselves for two options: Flee or paralyze. Despite this, there is another function… The subject can have so many levels of stress (product of panic) that he can die."
Aoko gasped feeling her legs shake.
"Kaito could have died at any moment, Nakamori. And you seem to care very little."
Aoko pursed her lips as her frown darkened in surprise. "Kaito has never been bothered by this before."
"Nakamori, Kaito nearly drowned trying to control the nerves that were obviously going to overflow. Why would anyone do that to a friend?"
Suddenly the atmosphere became dense and uncomfortable, Shinichi just wanted to get rid of that girl. Why would a friend do that?
"Don't ever do this to Kaito again."
After that, Aoko was nervous around Kaito. The magician didn't quite understand what was happening and he was starting to get stressed. Aoko began to spend less time with him. Akako had commented on Shinichi again, but the teenager preferred to do what he always did: ignore things that had to do with Akako.
"Death is corrupting… And life does not realise it"
—
It was an ordinary morning when Shinichi ran out of patience. Aoko and Kaito had started arguing in the middle of the room again. At first, no one paid attention to them until Kaito started shouting in alarm at the rest of the classmates. Aoko backed away scared, squeezing the marine animal lightly in her hands; For his part, Kaito began to hyperventilate again, attracting the attention of Shinichi who ran after him, holding the other to prevent him (among his hysteria) from getting hurt.
"Come on, breathe…" The detective whispered, raising his hands to the magician's face, brushing the tips of his fingers, tying to appease the teenager's tremors. "Kaito, come on, you need-"
"Kudo…I- I'm sorry, I didn't know."
Shinichi grunted, turning to face the woman. "I told you not to do this, that Kai-"
He was left mid-sentence when he felt Kaito's body go limp. Shinichi let out a shaky gasp, placing his hand on the chestnut's neck to make sure everything was fine. When he was satisfied, he carried the teenager to the infirmary; everything would be fine… Kaito would be fine.
——
"I told you not to mess with Kaito". Shinichi muttered, noticing how Aoko squirmed uncomfortably at the door of the infirmary. After the nurse assured her that Kaito would be fine, she had left him alone, but she returned a few minutes later, after the classroom turned into chaos.
"Kaito… is he alright?" The woman asked, noticing how Shinichi was getting closer.
"I told you not to touch Kaito, I left you alone because you're his friend. However, you are the worst," he murmured, causing the girl to back up until she collided with the shelf of medical supplies.
"I didn't think… I didn't think it was this bad. Kaito always.. always seems to brush it off."
"And even though you know that it is a phobia, you attacked him; and he looks like he's done now."
He roared grabbing one of the girl's arms. Aoko tried to scream, however Shinichi brought his free hand to Aoko's mouth. "Are you going to scream now?" He murmured, squeezing the wrist more between her fingers. "Kaito yelled and you continued with your game, what were you going to do if Kaito died? You can go to jail, Aoko. I can snap your fingers and send you to jail, what would the inspector say?"
Aoko gasped for air, Shinichi was practically obstructing her airway and her hand burned in pain. The detective kept squeezing her hand though, he could feel how it was beginning to fracture. Aoko wanted to cry, she wanted her father and Kaito to save her. At what point did her friend's nice boyfriend turned out like this?
"Shinichi…" she managed to say before feeling the other's hand squeezing her mouth again, followed by the noise of a bone finally giving way. Then came the throbbing pain, spreading up her arm to the depths of her brain. Her voice trailed off, parting her lips in a vague attempt to drain the breath she desperately wanted to release.
"Hurts?" The detective murmured, noticing how the girl's wrist was limp in his hands. "I can make this worse, however I won't, Kaito loves you and I'm not bad enough to hurt you so much. Not to mention that I'm on the side of the law," he commented suddenly happy.
Aoko felt like vomiting, her guts sat horrible inside her body, and she was sure that she was going to faint at any moment.
"Do something like that again, and your hand won't be the only thing that's broken."
Then everything went dark. Aoko woke up on another stretcher, blinked a couple of times, groaning as she felt a dull pain wrap around her hand, as if it were numb. Despite this, her brain focused on Kaito's cheerful voice, happily commenting to his boyfriend that he was fine, that there was no need to worry.
"Kaito, don't yell so much. Aoko is exhausted too, the doctor said that that slip down the stairs that Nakamori took is something to worry about. Do not be rude."
Stairs…
"Aoko, as distracted as always." The magician sang, finishing adjusting his shoes. "Well, I'm ready now." Once he organized his bag, he got up from the bed to leave the room. "The nurse mentioned that you should stay until the old man arrives."
Aoko was about to say something but her voice broke off as Kaito left, followed by Shinichi mentioning that he had left something behind. The teenager began to shake and hyperventilate. Shinichi was getting closer.
"I hope you're going to be better soon, it could have been much worse," he whispered, moving away from her.
Suddenly… Aoko felt what it was like to have a phobia. And hers was Kudo Shinichi.
—
"Why did you take so long Shinichi…?" He asked, watching his boyfriend run to where he was.
"I'm sorry. I was talking to Aoko, she sends me to say that she is very sorry for taking that fish near your face and that she will not do it again."
Kaito chuckled taking the detective's hand.
"Let's go at once, Shinichi."
Shinichi knew that what he was doing was wrong. However, he was not going to allow Kaito to be attacked; maybe it would be a sad time when Aoko was slowly moving away from him, but Shinichi would make up for it.
"Kaito, let's go to a university outside of Japan."
Yes, Kaito was his and no one else's.
I hope you are enjoying it, English is not my language, so I am very sorry if there are errors, I promise to improve; This will have several parts (at least a second one) but it will take me a while to translate. Also, I am looking for a Beta, to correct things that I overlook :D
