Just a simply Supernatural story i came up with, no season related and clearly a very random AU.
I always liked to write John as a good dad to the boys, still, i found that the only way for that to work was to write one of the brothers having a disability, thats why in this story Sam have the mental capacity of a 4-year old, due an accident.
Hope you enjoy.
Have a nice reading.
AFTER A HUNT
As Dean Winchester entered a bar, he sought solace in alcohol, hoping to drown the haunting memories of his recent hunt alongside his father, John Winchester. In contrast, John longed for the comfort of home, eager to unwind and shake off the tremors that still rattled his body. Despite his seasoned expertise, the last hunt had shaken him to his core like nothing before. He wished he could bury the memory deep within him, but it had already taken root in his mind, a truth he reluctantly acknowledged.

Upon reaching his front door, John was surprised by the sight of a tall man rushing towards him, wrapping his arms tightly around his father. "Daddy! You're home!" The familiar voice and innocent embrace brought a smile to John's face as he reciprocated the hug. It was his youngest son, Sammy, whose childlike innocence he cherished and wished to protect. Sammy, though in his mid-twenties, possessed a purity of heart that John wanted to preserve. "Where's Dean?" Sammy inquired, scanning behind his father with large hazel eyes in search of his older brother.
"Dean will be home soon, Sammy," John replied, attempting a smile. "Thank you for watching him, Ellen."
"You're welcome," Ellen responded, adding a playful taunt. "It's hard to believe such a nice kid like him is your son." With that, Ellen departed.
Once Ellen had left, John wearily entered his house and collapsed onto the couch, completely exhausted. However, Sammy, as talkative as ever, hurried to his side, eager to recount his day and the adventures he had experienced with Auntie Ellen at the park, including encounters with pigeons and other highlights.
Despite Sammy's chatter, John's mind wandered to a distant place, a time when life was innocent, much like Sammy's mind, and his wife Mary would be baking a delicious pecan pie. How John longed to return to that time.
"And I ate all the vegetables, Daddy!" Sammy continued to talk, pulling John back to the present.
"Yeah, son, what is it?" John asked, realizing what Sammy had just said, though he feigned a smile. "Congratulations, that's a good boy," he replied, but Sammy sensed something amiss.
"What's wrong, Daddy?"
"Nothing, Sam," John reassured, not wanting to alarm his son.
"Daddy, are you sad? Sad that Dean didn't come?" Sammy asked, confused, prompting a chuckle from John.
"Yeah, I think so," John quickly thought of a response. "But right now, I just miss my youngest kid. Come here, I want a big hug, the kind that only Sammy can give."
Without hesitation, Samuel jumped onto his father's lap like a little child and enveloped him in a warm embrace. This simple act caused John to shed tears, tears of relief to be home with his son, safe and sound. However, Sammy couldn't comprehend his father's emotions and assumed John was crying because Dean wasn't at home.
"Don't be sad, Daddy. Dean will be home soon," Sammy reassured, bringing a bittersweet laugh to John's lips amid his sobs.
Indeed, a few minutes later, Dean stumbled home, partially intoxicated and wearing a grumpy expression. Yet, upon seeing his brother and father on the couch, he couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"What's going on here?" he asked, puzzled, and Sammy rushed towards him.
"See, Daddy? I told you Dean would be home soon!" Sammy clapped his hands with glee.
"Dad, what's happening?" Dean struggled to comprehend the situation.
"It's okay, son. You don't need to understand," John managed to smile as he embraced his son. "I'm just happy that we made it through today's nightmare and we're all here together." John finally felt a sense of relief and happiness, grateful to be with his two most cherished treasures.
The End
