In all the time that she knew Ilgaz, from the first moment, Ceylin was always in awe – and very proud – of how intelligent and smart her husband was. With his hawk eyes – as he once called himself – Ilgaz was extremely attentive to all the details around him and very intuitive, qualities that made him an excellent prosecutor.
Ilgaz was interested in many subjects, Ceylin was sometimes startled at how sharp his memory was and stored the widest variety of knowledge. One of the areas that Ilgaz was very interested in was anatomy, which came to light for many during the investigation of Burak's death. Turgut Ali at the time even wondered if the prosecutor had ever studied medicine.
The truth is that Ilgaz's knowledge of anatomy went far beyond simple curiosity. Ilgaz as a prosecutor dealt with many cases of a criminal nature – murders, robbery – so part of his job during his investigations was to interview experts from different areas, so for Ilgaz it was very satisfying when a medical doctor or a forensic technician gave testimony and he could understand between jargon and scientific names what was being said, how a person had been killed or injured.
All these things together were what led Ilgaz to put together a puzzle that was now slowly forming in his mind. The first piece – or signal – came on a typical morning in the Kaya apartment.
Ilgaz opened the fridge and stared at its contents, wondering what he could make for breakfast, when his wife walked into the kitchen.
"What would you like for breakfast, sevgilim?" he asked without looking at her, but after a few seconds without an answer, he lifted his gaze to Ceylin, who had a strange expression on her face and a hand lightly resting on her stomach.
"Nothing" she finally replied.
"Why?" Ilgaz asked closing the fridge and approaching her.
"I think the kebab we had yesterday didn't sit very well with me, my stomach is a bit upset today" she answered sadly. Ilgaz cupped her face between his hands and caressed her face.
"You need to eat something" he said and placed a kiss on her nose "how about some fruit and I'll make you some ginger tea?"
Ceylin thought for a while before nodding and then receiving a kiss on the head from her husband who quickly got in motion to prepare the meal. Ceylin sighed contentedly despite the nausea she had felt since she woke up, she felt immensely grateful that someone took care of her as much as her husband did.
By the end of the day Ceylin looked much better, as Ilgaz asked her what they were having for dinner on the way home from her office, and Ceylin enthusiastically replied that she was craving chicken pilaf.
"I'll stop at the restaurant near the house and buy it" he said, but then he heard Ceylin make a sound of discontent and quickly turned his attention away from the traffic to look towards her, who had a not very happy expression.
"What?" He asked confused, turning his attention back to the traffic. "You said you wanted chicken pilaf."
"Yes, but I don't want to eat just any chicken pilaf, I want the one you make!" Ceylin responded and took advantage when Ilgaz stopped at a red light and turned towards her to glare at him with her best puppy eyes expression.
Ilgaz couldn't help but find the way his wife was staring at him cute and funny, but he was also a little confused, he knew that Ceylin loved his food, but normally she wasn't so picky.
"Tamam" he replied, returning his attention to the road and chuckled when Ceylin clapped her hands in celebration "but I'll need to stop at the supermarket then, I'm missing some ingredients."
In the supermarket, as they walked through the aisles, Ilgaz asked Ceylin if she didn't want to take a package of gummy bears that she liked so much, but when the lawyer saw the package in the prosecutor's hand, she wrinkled her nose and refused. Instead, she preferred to take a pack of another jelly candy, but it was sour rather than sweet, one that she seemed to be more interested in the last few days and honestly Ilgaz didn't know how she managed to eat that but didn't say anything.
Later Ilgaz watched as Ceylin eagerly ate the dinner he had prepared, even to the point of getting herself a second serving and Ceylin kept saying how he prepared the meal better than anyone else, as he always knew how she liked it.
The next morning, Ilgaz received an urgent call from Eren regarding the current case they were working on, so he needed to get out of the house as soon as possible towards the police station, which meant, no time to prepare breakfast. Ceylin didn't like the news very much, after all, breakfast was one of the meals that her husband prepared that she liked the most, she always felt happier after having breakfast with him, but of course, sometimes their work interfered with their routine, which forced them to eat in the street.
At the end of the morning Ilgaz called Ceylin, because earlier he had bumped into an old colleague at the police station and he commented to Ilgaz that he needed a lawyer and Ilgaz promptly handed over a business card from his wife and told him to get in touch with her, as he would be very well represented and now wanted to know if he had the opportunity to contact her.
"By any chance did a Demir called you?"
"Ah evet, evet, he called me and told me he bumped into you, and you gave him my number" her tone was dry, Ilgaz noticed "he will come this afternoon to discuss his case."
"Oh great" he replied and waited for his wife to say something else, but a silence formed until he spoke again "is everything okay?"
"Yes" she sighed "I'm just nauseous, I told you that that simit wasn't good" she commented sullenly.
"But we always eat there" Ilgaz replied confused.
"But this time it was not good!" Ceylin responded angrily. "When I got to the office, I threw up everything."
Ilgaz was even more confused, they always went to that bakery and never had any problems, Ceylin always liked the place.
"Anyway, I have a lot to do, I need to go" and before Ilgaz could say anything the call was cut off. Ilgaz stared at the phone in bewilderment, clearly the lawyer wasn't in the mood to talk today.
Sighing, he dropped the phone on the desk and went back to work, but two minutes later his phone buzzed with a message from the lawyer saying 'seni seviyorum'. Ilgaz chuckled, knowing this was her way of apologizing for her rudeness on the phone, and replied 'ben de seni seviyorum.'
In the evening, Ilgaz sighed contentedly as he sat down on the sofa, he had managed to close the case he was working on that day and now he could enjoy an early night with Ceylin. He was looking forward to continuing to watch a TV show he had started with Ceylin and which they had both really enjoyed. It was true that both differed in many aspects of their lives, but they also complemented each other in many others, and he was happy to be able to share things that ranged from their love to seek justice to mundane things, such as their passion for nature or a TV show at the end of the day.
So, thirty minutes into the episode they were watching, Ilgaz felt Ceylin sigh deeply and looked at her who was lying between his legs with her head resting on his chest, her eyes were closed.
"Ceylin are you sleeping?" he called while patting her shoulder which made her wake up quickly.
"No, no. I was just resting my eyes" she replied as she rubbed her hand over her face and settled back into his arms.
They turned their attention back to the TV, but twenty minutes later Ilgaz noticed that Ceylin had fallen asleep again and that she was clearly tired. He called her again and told her to go to bed. Ceylin initially protested as she knew how Ilgaz wanted to continue watching the series and that he enjoyed watching it with her, but Ilgaz said that they could continue the next night and that since it was still relatively early, he would take the opportunity to finish the book he was currently reading. She then accepted and lay down next to Ilgaz and fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
Ilgaz had a hard time pulling Ceylin out of bed the next morning, which was strange, as much as his wife liked to sleep a little longer, she had gone to bed earlier than usual the night before, but that didn't stop her from dozing off until the last possible minute, protesting that she wanted to continue sleeping. He only managed to get her to her feet when he threatened to leave without her.
As the days went by, Ilgaz guessed that Ceylin was working too hard, as she appeared to be more tired and stressed than usual and she had clearly developed a picky taste over the past few days, as she refused to eat most things unless they were prepared by him. Tolga commented to him the day they met at the DA's office that Ceylin wasn't making life easier for those involved in her current case.
Taking all this into account, Ilgaz planned a romantic evening for both in order to make the lawyer relax. He cooked dinner the way she liked it, lit candles, put on soft music, and greeted her with her favorite flowers when she got home.
Ceylin was delighted when she saw everything her husband had prepared and when she asked what the occasion was, Ilgaz shrugged and smiled "I don't need an occasion, I know your week has been difficult, so I wanted to prepare an evening for us to relax."
Ceylin's response was not what he expected. Ceylin put her hands to her face and burst into tears, which startled Ilgaz.
"Sevgilim, what is it?" He asked worriedly as he held her arms "what is wrong?"
"Nothing..." she struggled to answer through her sobs "it's just… you're perfect… and I don't deserve you… you always take such good care of me… and you're so handsome... ve ben seni çok seviyorum."
Ilgaz, although still a little shocked by her reaction, smiled at her words and hugged her, running his hands along her back in a gesture to help her calm down and kissed her head "ben de seni çok seviyorum."
He wiped away her tears and got her to calm down so they could enjoy their night. Later, when their romantic night had already advanced, both now found themselves lying in bed in a much-deserved make-out session.
Ilgaz kissed her fervently as he ran his hands over his wife's slender body, who had her hands intertwined in his hair. He lowered his lips to her neck and trailed several kisses until he reached her pulse point and devoted his attention there. He brought one of his hands up and placed it over Ceylin's breast over her blouse and squeezed gently, which earned him a surprised moan and made Ceylin pull his hair harder.
Motivated by his wife's reaction, Ilgaz distanced himself just long enough to remove her blouse and bra and then returned his attention to the lawyer's smooth neck, and slowly went down, spreading kisses over her chest until he reached her breasts. He held one of her breasts with his hand and squeezed and on the other he lowered his warm mouth and gently sucked. Ceylin cried out in pleasure and arched her back, squeezing Ilgaz's shoulders tightly.
Ilgaz continued to pay attention to his wife's breasts, alternating between them and in a few minutes, Ceylin was out of her mind, and by her reaction Ilgaz could have sworn she was on the verge of an orgasm. But before he could continue, Ceylin pulled Ilgaz hard from her breasts and kissed him passionately. It didn't take long for her to eliminate the rest of her clothes and his and turn the tables, climbing on top of him like a desperate woman and taking him for herself. Ilgaz tried to return his hands to her breasts, extremely pink now due to the stimulation they received, but Ceylin removed his hands and directed them to her waist, giving her support until they reached their climax.
Ceylin collapsed on top of him, but quickly after a brief hiss of pain, she rolled over, leaving her back against her husband's chest. Ilgaz was a little too airy with pleasure to make any of it now.
As he finished tying his tie, Ilgaz made his way into the living room where he found Ceylin adjusting her blouse. She had chosen a cream blouse with the edges and buttons – of which there were many – in black. Ceylin was struggling a little to fasten all the buttons on her blouse's cuff, when Ilgaz noticed one of the buttons on her chest pocket was undone and decided to help. He also noticed that the top felt a little tight in the breast area.
"Here, let me..." he said softly as he brought his hands up to fasten the button in the chest area, but just as quickly as it had taken him to fasten the button, he heard Ceylin let out a low groan and then smack his hand away from her.
"What do you think you are doing?" Ceylin questioned him angrily. Ilgaz stood there, not understanding.
"I..." He looked at the lawyer's chest as if to indicate that he was just helping with the button and he could now clearly see her erect nipples through her blouse, but before he could say anything, Ceylin huffed and stamped her foot.
"We don't have time for this!" and marched out of the room leaving a very confused Ilgaz behind.
Five minutes later, Ilgaz had headed to the bathroom and after drying his hands and turning to leave, he was once again left speechless, when Ceylin stormed into the bathroom, grabbed him by his tie, leaned against the door, slamming it shut, and pulled him toward her, kissing him fiercely.
When his body finally gave in to his wife's attack, Ceylin pushed him away, her breathing heavy.
"Now finish what you started" she said and at the same time used her hands that were resting on his shoulders to push him down, motioning for him to get on his knees "and be quick" she ordered.
Ilgaz was still a little confused by how his morning had turned out, but he was happy to comply with his wife's wishes and quickly dropped to his knees, taking her skirt and panties along with him.
On the morning of the day everything would fall into place for Ilgaz, he found Ceylin in the kitchen standing by the counter drinking water. He hugged her from behind and kissed her neck.
"Günaydın"
"Günaydın" and they hugged for a while, enjoying each other's warmth.
"You're already up" Ilgaz said against her neck and sighed, inhaling her scent "all week I've been having to drag you out of bed in the morning" Ceylin laughed, but then pouted.
"Cramps," she said as she massaged her abdomen, "and a headache that hasn't left me since yesterday."
Ilgaz quickly replaced her hand with his and massaged her abdomen, he knew the heat helped in those moments.
"Need anything?" and he kissed her on the corner of her mouth, Ceylin shook her head.
"You already kissed me, so now I can start my day" and she smiled affectionately at her husband.
Later while finishing some papers in his office, Ilgaz stopped and couldn't stop thinking about Ceylin, he wanted to know if she was better, since she had been a little unwell this morning. He thought then that he would go home and make her some soup.
He checked the time on his computer and decided he could call it a day and go home. As he straightened up the papers on his desk so he could leave, Ilgaz snapped. He turned his attention back to the clock on the computer and now to the date below it and stared at it for a few seconds.
Day 08.
Ceylin had complained that morning of cramps and a headache, classic signs that she was or would soon be on her period, but there were still ten days to go before Ceylin's period came and Ilgaz knew his wife was like a clockwork. Ilgaz had thought of going to the market on his way home and buying the products that Ceylin normally used, but he remembered seeing a closed box of tampons in the bathroom the night before and that, like last month, he wouldn't need to buy it, as the box was still intact.
Then as if in a movie where the main character loses his memory and in due time all his memories come back at once, the pieces fell into place in Ilgaz's head.
Events of the last few days connected and made sense as well as in one of his investigations.
The constant tiredness and greater desire to sleep that Ceylin had acquired, her aversion to food and constant desire for him to prepare it, the nausea, the unusual mood swings that she presented, the cramps, a more pronounced sensitivity in her breasts...
Ceylin was pregnant!
Ilgaz stood up as if the chair had caught fire as the realization hit him!
Ceylin was pregnant!
Ilgaz ran over to the bookshelf and quickly grabbed his anatomy book and hugged it to his chest as if his life depended on it.
Of course, everything made sense now. The symptoms, the changes, the dates... how had he not noticed before? Ilgaz took a deep breath, not even realizing he was holding his breath and laughed. He felt as if he had solved the greatest mystery in the world and he could feel nothing but joy and satisfaction.
But of course, he knew that although his knowledge of anatomy and attention to detail was very good, they still needed confirmation. Taking another deep breath to try to calm his frantically beating heart, Ilgaz dropped the book on the table without caring and headed towards the door, he needed to go home.
Opening the apartment door, Ilgaz realized that Ceylin was already home when he noticed her shoes and coat in the hall.
"Ceylin?"
"In the bathroom" he heard her muffled answer and went on her encounter.
Ilgaz was anxious, he could feel an electric current running through his body. When he opened the door, he saw Ceylin in front of the mirror combing her wet hair while wearing a white robe, she smiled when she saw him.
"Hoş geldin sevgilim" she said as she untangled her hair. Ilgaz just nodded and gave a goofy smile, sighing.
Ceylin noticed that her husband looked strange, he seemed agitated, shifting from one foot to the other, running a hand through his hair, an odd smile on his face.
"What?" She asked, chuckling lightly at the prosecutor's abnormal attitude.
"I…" Ilgaz tried to speak, but nothing seemed to come out. Ceylin dropped the brush in the sink and turned to him with a frown.
Without saying anything else, Ilgaz bit his lip nervously and pointed towards his wife and approached her, but before Ceylin could understand what was happening, Ilgaz opened her robe and cupped both her breasts in his hands and stared at them.
Yep, they were definitely bigger!
Ceylin was static with his attitude, what was going on? He then pulled her by the hand with a soft "come" and led her towards the bedroom while Ceylin tried to close the robe with the other hand still not understanding anything.
"Sit here" Ilgaz made her sit on the bed and sat beside her.
"Okay, now are you going to tell me what is making you like this?" She saw her husband take a deep breath and hold her hands and then look deep into her eyes.
Ilgaz ran through with her the observations he had noticed over the last few days and how it caught his attention. After a moment of silence, Ceylin gestured for Ilgaz to continue and once more he took a deep breath before saying, "Ceylin, I think you are pregnant."
Ceylin was in a state of shock and looked at her husband in surprise and at first, she denied it.
"Think about it sevgilim, your sickness, your tiredness, your mood…" and he squeezed her hands one more time. He noticed how Ceylin tried to take it all in her head and saw the moment when everything seemed to fall into place for her.
"Oh my God..." Ceylin brought a hand to her mouth, still surprised.
Ilgaz just nodded with a smile on his face. Taking a deep breath Ceylin faced him.
"Tamam..." now she was the one who was nervous and didn't seem to know how to find the right words "tomorrow... tomorrow I'll take a pregnancy test then" and gave a nervous laugh.
Ilgaz stared at her for a few seconds and got up and left the room without saying anything, leaving Ceylin alone and confused, but it didn't last long and Ilgaz was back with his coat in one hand and the other frantically looking for something in its pockets until he found what he was looking for.
He tossed his coat on the bed unceremoniously and then showed Ceylin a box that contained a pregnancy test and shivered again as he spoke.
"I... when I realized, I was already at the drugstore and... I thought... by the way, it's the best on the market, I researched it, a great percentage of accuracy... I thought it would be good to find out..." he laughed nervously as he turned the box in his hands, which made Ceylin laugh too.
She got up and took the box from his hands.
"Okay…" she sighed and smiled at him "I'll do it now then."
"Okay" was all he could say and saw Ceylin heading towards the bathroom.
Ceylin returned a few minutes later to find Ilgaz pacing the room and looked at her expectantly when he saw that she had returned.
"Now we have to wait a few minutes for the result to come out" and deposited the test on top of the dresser.
Ilgaz nodded and sat beside her and once again took her hands in his. A few seconds of silence later, Ceylin spoke again.
"Ehh… how was your day?" It was clear that she was trying to distract herself to make the time pass faster.
"Ehh..." Ilgaz shrugged. Both then laughed, they loved talking about how each other's day had been, but at that moment it was clear that that was the last thing on their minds. Ceylin then sighed and rested a hand on Ilgaz's thigh.
"If you're right about this…" she whispered and watched as Ilgaz let out a breath, he was surprised at himself.
He then got up and held out a hand for Ceylin to take, taking a deep breath, she accepted and got up and together they went to the dresser.
The test was the same as Ceylin had left it, only now it showed two lines next to each other. Positive.
They both sighed in surprise and looked at each other. Ilgaz saw how Ceylin smiled widely and then tears of happiness ran down the lawyer's face. He ran over and hugged her tight as she cried, a huge smile on his face as well.
He then distributed several kisses on her face until he reached her lips and Ceylin returned the kiss with great joy.
"I can't believe you were the one who found out!" she said laughing and staring at the pregnancy test once more. Ilgaz wiped her tears with his fingers. "You don't miss anything, do you?" She teased him and just like him, she stretched out her fingers and wiped the tears from the corners of her husband's eyes, before kissing him once more.
"No" he replied smiling, he could feel his face starting to hurt due to the smile that didn't leave his face "and I don't intend to miss anything in the next few months", and he hugged her once more, having the confirmation that now there was one more person among them.
Ilgaz now more than ever would not let any detail slip by, his eyes would miss nothing.
