Whenever the raiders arrived back home at the Base of Operations on the White House lawn, they were warmly received by those in attendance. Agent Christopher Cage scanned the crowd, looking for the person he wanted to see more than anything. Finally, his eyes locked with her eyes, and he pushed through towards her. When he got to Agent Alani Kelso, the two warmly embraced, and Cage was not afraid to show his emotions for once. The entire mission had been filled with risks and chances, but they came out clean, all of them did.
After the two broke from their embrace, Manny Ortega walked towards them and spoke up.
"Seeing as how the bigger fish has been fried up and served, I think it's time the three of us had a conversation." Uh oh. This wasn't going to end well. Cage cleared his throat before speaking up to Manny. "I knew this was coming. Let's meet in the Oval Office." Cage, Kelso, and Manny then left the lawn, and moved towards the Oval Office. When the door was closed behind them, Manny immediately let them have it.
"What in the blue fuck were you two thinking? Or were you even thinking at all?"
"Manny, calm down. I know the situation seems-"
"What Manny, you don't think I know being knocked up is-"
"Both of you shut up, I'm not finished just yet!"
Cage and Kelso both shut their mouths quickly. Neither one had taken such an ass-chewing since their days in the Army, when Kelso was a Ranger and Cage was a Sapper. "You know damn good and well what Directive 51 states when activated. You leave everything behind and save what remains. You don't shack up with you fellow Agent and then get them knocked up!" This last part was directed towards Cage.
"Hey, it takes two to make a baby," Kelso shot back. Manny narrowed his eyes towards her, but then shifted his gaze back towards Cage. He let out a deep and frustrated sigh before speaking again. "So how are we gonna work through this guys? Kelso, you obviously can't go back out in the field due to your condition now. And Cage, you're practically working the entirety of the warfront. Is this gonna compromise your ability to accomplish the mission, knowing now that you have a kid on the way? And with a fellow Agent nonetheless?"
"Just because I'm a father-to-be doesn't mean that I'm incapable of completing a mission Manny. I know this is something that neither myself or Kelso expected to happen, but it happened. We made the bed, now we gotta sleep in it."
"Oh, you did more than sleep in it alright."
"Manny," Kelso said in a dangerous tone, "I will kick your ass from sun up to sun down if you make a comment like that again."
Manny picked up on the warning from Kelso and made a mental note to not piss off the now hormonally unstable woman who already had a short fuse for a temper. "Guys, this is serious shit. You defied the orders of Directive 51, and that is a crime punishable under the same charges as treason."
"Wait just a minute Manny. Before you get started, I think it's safe to say that all of us here are guilty of more than just that. Should I remind you that we, Agents of the Strategic Homeland Division, utilized a bioweapon on an enemy populace, in full violation of the Geneva Convention? Or that, more importantly, all nine fucking Supreme Court Justices died from the Dollar Flu, so we don't even have a court to take this matter up with? Look man, I get that your pissed, but for fuck's sake, the end of the world already happened, and we were left to pick up the pieces. Green Poison killed 95% of the rest of humanity, and we're all that's left. While this isn't how I planned to become a parent, it's happened anyway, and now I gotta make the most of it that I can here. Can't you understand that?"
Manny was silent for a long time before he finally spoke; what he said caught both Agents by surprise.
"Even if there were a working judicial system in place, I couldn't put you two on trial. You're both extremely valuable to saving what remains, and I can't lose either of you. We're gonna work through this and get it done right. I'm done talking with you today. Dismissed."
Kelso and Cage left the room, with Alani leading Christopher back towards her room.
"We just got off the hook, and you want to further test how far we can go here?" Cage asked incredulously.
"Um, yeah. That and I was worried sick about you while you were on mission. I'm just glad you're safe," Kelso said, relief evident in her voice.
She helped undress him and get him out of his armor he was still wearing. Once he was just in his regular clothes, Kelso began to get undressed, and Cage shortly followed suit. He didn't want to miss out on what would most likely be an encore performance of their first time together, when he had saved Washington International Airport from the BTSU. Of course, she was pregnant already, so he didn't have to worry about getting her pregnant again this time. Truthfully, Cage preferred it that way; but he wasn't going to admit it to Kelso.
Unbeknownst to him, however, Kelso felt the same as he did. She preferred to feel every part of him, al naturale. She didn't care for the rubber sleeve that was supposed to keep her from being pregnant; a lot of good it must've done, seeing as how she ended up pregnant anyhow. None of that mattered, though. She was with her man, and he with her. With the sun setting on D.C., the happy couple crawled into bed together, with Kelso closing in and wrapping one leg around Cage's. They both let out a satisfied and tired hum.
"I wish we could just lay together like this for hours on end. No responsibilities. No having to worry about planning the next big attack," Cage continued. "I just wish we could do more together, if we had more free time. But something tells me that we won't get that privilege.
"This is how we spend time together," Kelso answered. "I want to cherish every moment that we get to hold one another."
This put a goofy smile on Christopher's face, and he was happy to express it to her. He leaned forward for a kiss, and so did she.
Their lips meeting in the middle was just the beginning of what would be a wonderful night the couple would share together.
