Chapter 13

A few days later, Cassie was well enough to leave the hospital. Jack came and walked her outside. As he got Cassie into the car, Vanessa and Gregory were watching them. "See Gregory? Leaving the key to the crane, was the right thing to do. But I'm sure if Cassie saw you, I think she would lose it." "I did what I did, because I thought that thing would escape the basement. Surely she understands that. Right?"

As the car drove away, Vanessa puts a hand on Gregory's shoulder. "I don't know. I think we should give her some time to process." Jack drove Cassie back home and parked in the garage. But before leaving the house, he covered Roxy with a blanket. When Cassie got out of the car and saw the blanket, she said: "What's that?" "Oh. That is a surprise for you."

Jack sat Cassie down on the sofa and walked back into the garage. He grabbed his tools and walked over to Roxy. "Ok. This is the moment of truth." He uses a tool to turn Roxy back on. She slowly opened her eyes and said: "I can see." She looked at her hands, then she stood up. Roxy looked around the garage, then she looked at Jack. "How do I look?" says Roxy.

Jack reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. He quickly took a photo of Roxy, then he showed it to her. "Like a work of art," says Jack. Roxy placed a hand on her mouth, she then started to cry. "Thank you." Jack smiled and walked over to a shelf. He grabbed Roxy's keytar and walked back over to her. "I also got you this. Just in case you wanted to play music again."

Roxy grabbed her keytar and stared at it. She then looked up at Jack and said: "Groovy." She pressed a few keys to see if it still worked. Unfortunately, a glitchy noise came out of it. "Don't worry, I'm a technician. I'll have a look and see if I can fix it." Roxy then placed the keytar down on the worktable. "Wait, is Cassie here?" "Yes, she's in the next room."

Jack opened the garage door and leaned out. "Alright Cassie, it's time for your surprise." Cassie stood up and looked at Jack. "So, I know that you went through a lot at the Pizzaplex. But when you came out again, I thought you could use a friend." Cassie looked confused, before saying: "What do you mean?" Jack smiled and stepped out of the garage.

He then knelt in front of Cassie and said: "I know how much you miss your mom, and I miss her too. But I think I have a solution to that problem." Jack turned to the garage door and said: "Ok. You can come out now." He then stood up and walked to the sofa. As he sat down, Cassie looked at the garage door. She then heard metallic footsteps and became nervous.

Cassie's eyes widened as Roxy stepped out of the garage. Roxy looked down at Cassie and said: "Hello Cassie." "Roxy? But how? I thought you were dead." Jack cleared his throat and said: "I saw Roxy carry you out of the Pizzaplex, so I decided to give her a second chance." "Your dad said I could stay here. But, do you want me to stay?"

Cassie gasped and looked at Jack. "Really? She can stay here with us?" Jack nodded and Cassie looked back at Roxy. With tears in her eyes, Cassie threw her arms around Roxy and said: "Yes! I do want you to stay!" Roxy smiled and slowly hugged Cassie back. "You are the best." "You too Roxy."
