The sun was just beginning to rise over the quiet neighborhood of Royal Woods, signaling the start of a new day and a new chapter in Lincoln Loud's life. He stood in front of his bedroom mirror, nervously going through a checklist to make sure he was fully prepared for his first day of middle school.
"Backpack? Check. Lunch? Check. Freshly sharpened pencils? Check. Confidence? Uh, still working on that one," Lincoln muttered to himself, adjusting his backpack straps, and trying to psych himself up.
As he made his way downstairs, he could hear the usual morning chaos of his big family. There were eleven other siblings living in the Loud house, and mornings were always bustling with activity. Today, however, Lincoln's excitement managed to overshadow the usual pandemonium.
"Good morning, everyone!" Lincoln greeted as he entered the kitchen. "Guess what day it is? The first day of middle school!"
His sisters all paused for a moment and turned their attention to him.
"Linc, you're going to rock middle school!" Luna, said with a supportive smile.
"You got this, bro!" Lynn said with a thumb up "I can't wait to see you at school".
"Middle school, huh? You're growing up, Lincoln," said his dad, giving him a proud pat on the back.
With everyone's encouragement, Lincoln felt a surge of confidence. "Thanks, guys! I'm really looking forward to it."
Just then, the familiar sound of the school bus pulling up outside reached their ears.
"The bus is here!" Lincoln exclaimed, grabbing his backpack and rushing out the door.
Outside, he joined up with his friends Clyde, Rusty, and Liam, who were also waiting for the bus. They all had a mix of excitement and nervousness in their eyes.
"Hey, guys, are you ready for our first day of middle school?" Lincoln asked with a hopeful grin.
"I don't know, Lincoln. I've heard middle school can be really tough." Said Clyde who was very nervous.
Rusty chimed in, "Yeah, I heard there are older kids who might pick on us."
Liam added, "And what if we get lost in that huge school? We'll never find our way out!"
Lincoln understood their concerns, but he didn't want their worries to dampen their spirits. "Look, I get it. It might be scary at first, but we've always stuck together, right? And that's how it's going to be in middle school too. If we have each other's backs, we'll be just fine. Plus, we'll make new friends and have amazing experiences!"
Clyde, Rusty, Stella, Zach and Liam exchanged glances and then nodded in agreement.
"You're right, Lincoln. We're in this together," Clyde said, feeling reassured by his friend's words.
"Yeah, let's do this!" Rusty added with newfound determination.
At Middle School, Lincoln and his friends made their way to the designated classroom, excitement still tingling in the air despite the minor hiccup. Mrs. Salter, a warm and welcoming woman in her early 40s, greeted them at the door with a smile.
"Good morning, everyone! Welcome to your first day of middle school," Mrs. Salter said cheerfully. "Please find your assigned seats and settle in."
The students shuffled around, searching for their names on the desks. Lincoln's heart raced as he looked around, but there was no desk with his name on it. Panic started to bubble up inside him.
"Uh, Mrs. Salter, I can't find my desk," Lincoln spoke up nervously, hoping it was just a simple oversight.
Mrs. Salter checked her list and then looked back at Lincoln with a sympathetic expression. "Oh, I'm sorry, Lincoln. It looks like there might have been a mix-up. According to my records, you're actually in Mr. Bolhofner's class."
"But that can't be right! I turned in the request form to be in this class," Lincoln protested, feeling his heart sink.
Mrs. Salter inspected the list again. "I'm sorry, Lincoln, but I don't have any record of it. Are you sure you turned it in?"
Lincoln's mind raced as he tried to recall what happened when he submitted the form. He suddenly remembered the Flippee stain on his checklist, which obscured the check mark in the box for turning in the form.
"I must have missed the mark with the Flippee stain," Lincoln admitted, his shoulders slumping. "But I really wanted to be in this class with my friends."
Mrs. Salter sighed, clearly empathizing with Lincoln's predicament. "I understand, Lincoln, but changing classes requires approval from Principal Ramirez. You'll need to visit her office and discuss it with her."
Feeling disappointment, Lincoln nodded. "Okay, I'll go see Principal Ramirez. Maybe she can help me out."
Lincoln made his way down the hall to Principal Ramirez's office, his heart heavy with the fear of disappointment. He knocked on the door, and a kind voice called out, "Come in!"
As he stepped inside, Principal Ramirez looked up from her desk, her warm smile momentarily comforting him. "Ah, Lincoln Loud, I've been expecting you. Please, have a seat."
Lincoln sat down nervously, fidgeting with his hands. "Mrs. Ramirez, I was hoping you could help me. I was placed in Mr. Bolhofner's class, but I really wanted to be in Mrs. Salter's class with my friends. Can you please switch me?"
Principal Ramirez listened attentively, her expression showing genuine concern. "I wish I could, Lincoln. Mrs. Salter is an excellent teacher, and I understand you want to be with your friends. Unfortunately, her class is already at full capacity, and there's no room for additional students."
Lincoln's heart sank further, the weight of disappointment almost too much to bear. "Oh, okay. I guess I'll just have to make the best of it in Mr. Bolhofner's class."
Just as he was about to get up and leave her office, Principal Ramirez leaned forward, a thoughtful glint in her eyes. "Wait, Lincoln, don't go just yet. I might have an idea."
Curiosity piqued, Lincoln sat back down, looking at her with a glimmer of hope.
Principal Ramirez cleared her throat and leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "I can make an exception for you, Lincoln. I have the power to remove someone from Mrs. Salter's class, but it comes with a condition. You see, I need a favor—a big mission, if you will."
Lincoln's interest was piqued, but he remained cautious. "What kind of mission, Principal Ramirez?"
She glanced around as if to ensure no one else was listening, then spoke in a low voice, "I need you to steal the nuclear remote from Area 51 for me, I know it will be hard but you are the man of the plans."
His eyes widened in shock. "Nuclear remote? Are you serious?"
Principal Ramirez nodded solemnly. "Deadly serious. I have my reasons, Lincoln, but it's essential that this remain a secret."
Lincoln's mind raced, trying to comprehend the gravity of the request. He never imagined he would be involved in something like this. "But why do you need the nuclear remote, Principal Ramirez? Nuking a country sounds dangerous and wrong!"
Principal Ramirez leaned back in her chair, her expression softening with a hint of sadness. "It's personal, Lincoln. A long time ago, I had a boyfriend. We were happy together, or so I thought, until he met a Canadian woman. He left me for her, and now they live together in Canada, happily ever after. I want to erase that country from the map, just like he erased me from his life."
Lincoln was taken aback by the revelation, realizing the depths of heartache and pain Principal Ramirez had endured. "I'm sorry for what happened to you, but I can't be a part of causing harm to innocent people."
Principal Ramirez nodded, understanding his hesitation. "I knew it was a lot to ask, Lincoln. But think about it; being in Mrs. Salter's class with your friends is what you wanted, right? This is your chance to make it happen."
Lincoln hesitated, torn between his desire to be with his friends and the moral implications of the mission. After a moment of contemplation, he took a deep breath and said," I agree to get the nuclear remote for you, but only because I want to be in the same class as my friends".
Principal Ramirez's eyes lit up with delight upon hearing Lincoln's decision. "Thank you, Lincoln. I knew I could count on you. This means a lot to me, and I promise I won't forget your loyalty."
Lincoln nodded, feeling a mixture of nervousness and determination. "I'll do my best to fulfill the mission, Principal Ramirez."
"Good luck, Lincoln," she said with a smile. "Remember, this is strictly confidential. No one else can know about it, or the consequences could be severe."
As the school day came to an end, Lincoln hurriedly made his way to the bus stop, eager to share his secret with his friends. Spotting Zach, Rusty, Liam, Stella, and Clyde crammed into a single seat, he squeezed his way in, causing some laughter and good-natured teasing.
"Hey, guys, guess what?" Lincoln said with a mischievous grin.
His friends turned to him, curious. "What's up, Lincoln?" Clyde asked.
"I've got a top-secret mission from Principal Ramirez," Lincoln announced with a hint of excitement in his voice. "I can't tell you what it is, or I'll be in big trouble, but it's a big deal."
His friends exchanged intrigued glances, impressed by the mystery surrounding Lincoln's newfound mission.
"Wow, that sounds pretty important," Stella remarked, leaning forward in interest.
Zach raised an eyebrow. "Are you some kind of secret agent now, Lincoln?"
Lincoln chuckled. "You could say that, but this mission is just between me and Principal Ramirez. It's all part of getting me transferred to Mrs. Salter's class."
His friends' eyes widened in surprise. "Wait, so this mission could actually get you moved to our class?" Rusty asked, his face beaming with hope.
Lincoln nodded. "Yeah, that's the plan. So, you all have to trust me on this. I can't share any details, but I promise I'll do whatever it takes to be in the same class as you guys."
"Of course, Lincoln," Liam said, nodding solemnly. "We trust you."
After getting off the bus, Lincoln rushed into the house and headed straight to the second floor where Lisa's room was located. Knocking on her door, he called out, "Lisa, are you in there?"
Lisa opened the door with her usual scientific curiosity. "What do you require, Lincoln? I'm currently in the process of conducting a series of experiments."
"I need your help with something, Lisa," Lincoln said, stepping into her room. "It's kind of urgent."
Lisa raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Urgent, you say? Well, you have my undivided attention. Proceed."
Lincoln tries to find the right words. "Principal Ramirez gave me a mission, and she needs a nuclear remote. I was wondering if you could recreate one for her." Said Lincoln hoping that it won't freak his younger sister out.
Lisa blinked, unfazed by the shocking request. "You want me to create a nuclear remote? For what purpose?"
"Uh, she wants it to, um, destroy Canada," Lincoln admitted reluctantly.
Lisa's eyes lit up with interest. "Canada? I suppose I could do that, but it seems rather unnecessary. However, I'll be happy to oblige."
Lincoln was taken aback by her lack of concern over the destruction of a whole country. "You're okay with that? Destroying a country?"
Lisa shrugged. "I don't have strong feelings about Canada, Their maple syrup is overrated and apparently you can go to jail for not wanting them on your pancake."
Suddenly, Lincoln remembered something that stunned him even more. "Wait, you're telling me you've already created a nuclear remote before?"
Lisa nodded proudly. "Indeed. I managed to hack into the military's computer systems when I was only two years old and replicated the necessary programming for a remote."
"Two years old?" Lincoln exclaimed, eyes wide with shock. "How on earth did you do that?"
Lisa smirked. "Let's just say I possess a natural affinity for complex systems and their vulnerabilities."
"But... why would you create a nuclear remote at such a young age?" Lincoln asked, still trying to process the revelation.
"I was curious, and I wanted to see if I could do it," Lisa replied matter-of-factly. "Sending nukes without having to steal the military's remotes seemed like a fascinating challenge."
Lincoln's horror deepened as he listened to her nonchalant explanation. "And you've used it?"
Lisa's eyes twinkled mischievously. "Oh, yes. Mostly for simulation purposes, of course. But I must admit, I did enjoy sending a few theoretical nukes to Europe."
Lincoln's jaw dropped, horrified by his sister's admission. "You like sending nukes to Europe?!"
Lisa shrugged again. "It's a personal preference. I find the continent rather lackluster."
Realizing that further questions might lead to more shocking revelations, Lincoln decided to change the subject. "Okay, well, um, can you please help me with the remote for Principal Ramirez then?"
Lisa nodded. "Of course. Hand me the specifications, and I'll get to work on it."
Lincoln handed over the notes he received from Principal Ramirez, feeling a mix of relief and concern. Lisa's unparalleled scientific prowess would undoubtedly ensure the remote's creation, but he couldn't help but worry about what else she might be capable of.
With the remote in hand, Lincoln knew he could finally put an end to this bizarre and dangerous mission. He can't wait to be in Mrs. Salter's class with his friends.
In the next day at school, Lincoln walked briskly through the hallways, the weight of the nuclear remote still lingering in his mind. As he approached Principal Ramirez's office, he knocked on the door.
"Come in," came a muffled voice from inside.
Lincoln pushed the door open and found Principal Ramirez behind her desk, looking up in surprise as he entered. "Lincoln! What brings you here so early in the morning?"
"I, uh, I completed the mission," Lincoln stammered, holding out the nuclear remote for her to see. "My sister Lisa made a replicated version, just like you asked."
Principal Ramirez's eyes widened with genuine astonishment as she took the remote from him. "Already? That was incredibly fast! Your sister is truly remarkable."
"Yeah, she's something else," Lincoln replied, unable to hide his pride in his sister's abilities.
Principal Ramirez examined the remote carefully, nodding in approval. "Excellent work, Lincoln. You've proven yourself to be quite resourceful as well. I'll take it from here and make sure it's properly handled."
Lincoln hesitated for a moment before speaking up, "Principal Ramirez, before you do anything with that remote, I have to ask you something. Is this really worth it? Are you sure you want to use it to destroy an entire country just to kill a single Canadian family?"
Ramirez's face hardened for a brief moment before softening into a sardonic smile. "Oh, Lincoln, you don't understand. I once got banned from Canada for three years because I refused to have maple syrup on my pancakes. Can you believe it? They were so offended just because I didn't want maple syrup! I don't care about Canadians; they deserve a taste of their own medicine."
"But... isn't that a bit extreme?" Lincoln tried to reason.
Ramirez laughed, a chilling sound that sent shivers down Lincoln's spine. "Extreme? Maybe. But I don't care. They brought this upon themselves."
Before Lincoln could say anything else, Principal Ramirez pressed the buttons on the remote twice, her laughter echoing through the room. Lincoln felt a sinking feeling in his chest as he knew what that meant – the remote was now set to launch its deadly payload.
Meanwhile, in a top-secret facility at Area 51, generals and soldiers scrambled in panic as they detected the launch signals for their nuclear missiles. "We've been hacked! The nukes are being sent!" one of the officers yelled.
They desperately tried to regain control of the missiles, but it was too late. They could only watch in horror as the nukes streaked across the sky, their trajectory set for Canada.
The gravity of the situation weighed heavily on everyone present. If those missiles reached Canada, it could lead to a catastrophic chain of events that might trigger World War III.
Back at the school, Principal Ramirez's sinister smile didn't waver as she looked at Lincoln. "You see, Lincoln, revenge can be a powerful motivator. And sometimes, it's worth a few sacrifices."
Principal Ramirez turned on the nearby TV, which had been left on a news channel covering the devastating event.
"We interrupt your regular programming with a breaking news report," the somber news reporter announced, her voice heavy with sorrow. "Earlier today, an unknown hacker breached our military defense systems and took control of several atomic bombs. Tragically, Canada has suffered a catastrophic attack, and as a result, the entire country no longer exists. The impact was catastrophic, and there are no survivors."
The news reporter continued, "In an ironic twist, the Canadian government's leaders were also in the targeted areas and have been killed, preventing any possibility of Canada declaring war in retaliation. However, the international community is in shock and mourning, and many countries are demanding answers and accountability."
The news sunk in, Lincoln's face turned pale, and his hands trembled uncontrollably. "This... this is horrifying! So many innocent lives..." he stammered, struggling to comprehend the magnitude of the destruction.
Ramirez, on the other hand, seemed satisfied, her thirst for revenge seemingly quenched. Lincoln couldn't understand how she could be so callous and cruel, He starts to regret helping her all because he didn't want to go to Mr. Bolhofner's class.
Feeling a surge of desperation, Lincoln looked at Ramirez and pleaded, "Can you get rid of that remote now? Before someone finds out and we get busted for what happened?"
Principal Ramirez considered his request for a moment before nodding. "You're right. Now that I've had my revenge, I don't need this anymore."
She reached into a drawer and produced a hammer. With a swift motion, she smashed the remote into small, irreparable pieces. Lincoln felt a sense of relief wash over him as he watched the once-dangerous device become nothing more than scrap metal.
Ramirez turned to Lincoln, her expression softer now. "Thank you, Lincoln. You helped me achieve what I wanted, and now it's all over."
"But at what cost?" Lincoln retorted, his voice tinged with anger. "So many innocent lives lost because of your revenge."
Ramirez shrugged nonchalantly. "Collateral damage, I suppose. But it doesn't matter now. What's done is done."
Lincoln shook his head in disbelief. He couldn't comprehend how someone could be so heartless. He wanted to say more, to make her understand the gravity of her actions, but he knew it was futile.
"Can I go to eat my lunch now?" Lincoln asked, eager to escape the presence of the woman before him.
Principal Ramirez smiled and patted his shoulder. "Of course, go ahead. You did a great job for me, Lincoln. I'm thankful for your help."
Lincoln walked out of the office, He couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. He was relieved that he didn't have to deal with the principal for now, He won't forgive himself for making this decision. He texted his best friend Clyde that he successfully moved to Mrs. Salter's class.
Lincoln enters the cafeteria where he was met with a chorus of cheers and high-fives from his friends. Their smiles and excitement were infectious, but Lincoln was a worry how his friends would react to Canada being destroyed. He felt a responsibility to be honest with them, despite how difficult it might be.
"Hey, Lincoln! You did it!" Clyde exclaimed, clapping him on the back.
"Yeah, way to go, man!" Zach added, flashing a thumbs-up.
Liam gave Lincoln a playful punch in the arm. "I knew you had it in you, buddy!"
Rusty and Stella exchanged delighted glances. "You're a legend, Lincoln! Mrs. Salter's class won't know what hit them!"
Lincoln forced a smile, trying to match their enthusiasm, but his pale complexion didn't go unnoticed. Stella furrowed her brow and gently touched his arm. "Hey, are you okay? You look a bit off."
"Yeah, I'm fine," Lincoln replied, not wanting to worry them. But he knew he couldn't keep the truth to himself any longer. "Actually, something happened while I was in the principal's office."
His friends leaned in, curious. "What is it?" Clyde asked.
"Principal Ramirez and I learned that Canada was destroyed by a hacker." Said Lincoln telling his friends about what just happened.
The joy on their faces vanished, replaced by concern and shock. Stella gasped, covering her mouth with her hand. "Oh my God, are you serious?"
Zach pulled out his phone and began furiously typing, while the others followed suit. "Let me check the news," he said, his voice tense.
Sure enough, as they all looked up the latest updates, the grim reality was confirmed. News reports flooded their screens, detailing the devastating cyberattack that had befallen Canada.
"Oh no," Liam whispered, his eyes wide. "This is terrible."
Rusty shook his head, unable to comprehend the magnitude of the disaster. "Who would do something like that?"
Zach lowered his phone, a grave expression on his face. "I've heard about cyber warfare before, but this is on a whole different level."
Stella's voice trembled. "Do you think they'll go after other countries too?"
Zach offered a somber theory. "It's possible. Some might try to use this as a way to intimidate or gain leverage."
Lincoln's heart sank as he watched the distress on his friends' faces. He had always prided himself on being the trustworthy, go-to guy in their circle, but now he felt like he had let them all down by keeping this dangerous secret.
"I have to tell you something," Lincoln began, his voice shaky. "I didn't get into Mrs. Salter's class by chance. Principal Ramirez offer me to steal the nuclear remote so she could use it to destroy Canada, I didn't think though because I want to be in Mrs. Salter's class so badly and being in a class without you guys sucks."
Wide-eyed gasps filled the room, and Stella couldn't help but blurt out, "Why on earth would she want to nuke Canada?"
"Ramirez had an ex-boyfriend who broke up with her for a Canadian woman. She was hurt and angry, and somehow she got it into her head that destroying Canada would make her feel better, like revenge or something." Said Lincoln telling his friends the motivation behind her action.
The group was utterly dumbfounded, trying to process the fact that an entire country might have been at risk due to someone's personal grudge.
"But wait," Rusty interjected, "you said 'had.' Does that mean she doesn't have the nuclear remote anymore?"
Lincoln nodded, a small glimmer of relief in his eyes. "Yeah, the good news is that the nuclear remote is now destroyed. I made sure of it."
The anger that had initially swelled within his friends began to subside, replaced by a mix of shock and confusion.
Clyde spoke up, trying to grapple with the situation logically. "Okay, so we know what happened and why, but what can we do about it now? We can't just let her get away with this."
Zach nodded, his face determined. "You're right. But we can't go to the police and say that Principal Ramirez did it, the police won't believe that she is a hacker."
Stella interjected, "What if we gather evidence to prove her involvement? We can't just confront her without something concrete."
Lincoln's eyes lit up with an idea. "Actually, I might know a way to get some evidence. You see, the nuclear remote that I 'stole' from Area 51 wasn't stolen. My younger sister, Lisa, created it when she was only two years old. She's a child prodigy when it comes to technology."
Rusty's eyes widened in disbelief. "Wait, you mean to tell me that your sister mange to copy a military's nuclear remote?"
Lincoln nodded proudly. "Yes, and she's also really good at making sci-fi weapons. We could ask her if she has any bombs, we could use to get rid of Principal Ramirez."
"That is a great idea Lincoln, I can't wait to blow up her house!" Rusty exclaimed.
After school, Lincoln and his friends made their way to his house, where Lisa was tinkering away with her latest inventions. Lincoln explained the situation to her, and Lisa listened attentively.
"So, you want some micro-bombs, huh?" Lisa grinned mischievously. "Sure, I have some in my storage. I've been itching to test them, but Mom and Dad said no more explosions in the house. You can have them."
Lincoln's eyes widened. "Wait, micro-bombs? How strong are they?"
Lisa beamed proudly. "They're super strong! Even though they're tiny, they pack a punch. They can explode an elephant or a whale if they swallow one!"
"Whoa, that's impressive," Zach said, clearly intrigued by the power of the micro-bombs.
"Will they be enough to explode a house?" Rusty asked with a glimmer of hope.
Lisa shook her head, dampening their expectations. "No, they won't do enough damage to a house. It's not worth it. Principal Ramirez can easily buy another house if we destroy one."
Rusty sighed in disappointment. "So, what do we do then? We can't just let her get away with what she's done."
Lisa paused for a moment, contemplating her next words. "Well, if you really want to stop her, there's another way. We can trick her into swallowing a micro-bomb. It won't destroy her house, but it will cause her pain and discomfort."
Lincoln's eyes widened, unsure about the idea. "Isn't that a bit risky?"
Clyde spoke up firmly, "Lincoln, think about it. This woman just orchestrated a genocide against Canadians! She deserves to suffer for what she's done. If swallowing a micro-bomb gives her a quick, painful death, then so be it."
Lincoln hesitated, torn between his principles and the desire for justice. He understood Clyde's anger, but he didn't want to resort to harming someone, even if they were responsible for terrible actions.
Stella put a comforting hand on Lincoln's shoulder. "It's a tough decision, Lincoln, but sometimes we have to do difficult things to protect others and make sure the guilty face consequences."
The weight of responsibility hung heavily on Lincoln's shoulders. He knew what they needed to do to stop Principal Ramirez once and for all, but it still didn't feel right to him.
Finally, he made up his mind. "Okay, I'll do it. Tomorrow, we'll trick Principal Ramirez into swallowing the micro-bomb. But let's make sure we have a solid plan, and we minimize any harm to innocent people."
His friends nodded in agreement, united in their determination to take down Principal Ramirez and prevent any further harm.
The group huddled in Lincoln's room, surrounded by blueprints of the school and various gadgets Lisa had devised to aid in their mission.
Rusty smirked mischievously. "I'll pull the fire alarm to get everyone out of school. It'll create chaos, and no one will suspect a thing."
Zach nodded in agreement. "While that's happening, I'll hack into the school's security system and disable the cameras. We can't risk being caught on tape."
Stella chimed in, "And I'll keep an eye on the hallways to make sure no one interferes while Lincoln is in Ramirez's office."
Lincoln felt a mixture of anxiety and determination. He knew what they were doing was dangerous, but it was the only way to stop Ramirez's reign of terror.
The next day, they executed their plan with precision. Rusty pulled the fire alarm, and chaos erupted throughout the school. Zach worked quickly, using his hacking skills to disable the cameras, while Stella kept watch for any unexpected interruptions.
With the coast clear, Lincoln made his way to Principal Ramirez's office, his heart pounding in his chest. He carefully opened the door, ensuring that no one was around. He quickly approached her desk, where her coffee cup sat untouched.
Lincoln grabs his micro-bombs from his pocket and dropped the micro-bombs into Principal Ramirez's coffee. Lincoln knew the stakes were high, and he prayed that their daring plan would succeed.
Lincoln immediately exiting the office as discreetly as he had entered, Lincoln made his way outside the school to meet up with his friends, who were anxiously waiting for him. The worry in their eyes was evident as they all gathered around him, eager to hear the outcome.
"Did you do it?" Stella asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Lincoln nodded, trying to contain his nervousness. "Yes, it's done. Now we just have to wait for her to drink the coffee."
Moments later, the fire alarm stopped blaring, and the teachers informed the students that it was a false alarm, and they should return to their classes.
In Mrs. Salter's class, the group gathered around Zach's iPad, which displayed the live security camera feed from Principal Ramirez's office. They were on edge, waiting for any sign of her drinking the coffee.
"Come on, come on," Rusty muttered impatiently.
Liam placed a reassuring hand on Rusty's shoulder. "Relax, Rusty. We just have to be patient."
Time seemed to drag on, each second feeling like an eternity as they anxiously watched the screen. And then, finally, Principal Ramirez walked into her office, looking slightly frazzled from the alarm.
"She's going to drink it," Clyde said, his eyes wide with anticipation.
The group held their breaths, their hearts pounding in their chests as they waited for the pivotal moment. Principal Ramirez picked up the cup, and they all watched with bated breath as she took a sip of her coffee.
But nothing happened.
"Did it not work?" Stella asked, her disappointment evident.
Just then, Principal Ramirez's phone rang, and she put the coffee down to answer the call. The group exchanged glances, feeling a mix of relief and frustration.
Zach, who had been monitoring the situation through the security camera, spoke up. "The micro-bombs may have a delayed reaction. Let's wait a little longer."
The minutes ticked by, and the tension in the room grew. They were all silently hoping that the micro-bombs would take effect and neutralize Principal Ramirez's ability to cause harm.
Suddenly, Principal Ramirez winced, placing a hand on her stomach. The group's eyes widened as they realized that their plan had worked.
"She's feeling it," Lincoln said, his voice filled with both triumph and concern.
As Principal Ramirez's discomfort grew, the group watched with a mix of satisfaction and apprehension. They knew they had to act quickly before the situation escalated further.
Stella took charge. "Zach, disable the security cameras now. We don't need to watch this."
Zach nodded and swiftly tapped away on the iPad, shutting down the live feed just in time. They didn't want to witness the gruesome aftermath of the micro-bombs' activation.
Meanwhile, the intercom crackled to life, and Meryls' urgent voice echoed through the school. "Attention all students, this is an emergency. Principal Ramirez just exploded out of nowhere. Please leave the school immediately and head to your homes. Do not panic but evacuate the building calmly and quickly."
The students in Mrs. Salter's class exchanged startled glances, and panic started to spread through the school. They could hear footsteps and frantic voices in the hallway as everyone rushed to evacuate.
Rusty let out a nervous chuckle, still trying to process the events. "Well, that escalated quickly."
Zach gave him a stern look. "This is serious, Rusty. We need to leave too."
As they hurriedly exited the classroom, Lincoln and his friends could see the chaos unfolding around them. Students were running in every direction, and teachers were trying to maintain order.
In the midst of the commotion, Rusty couldn't help but call out, "Hey, this is kind of awesome, though, right? Explosions and all that!"
Zach rolled his eyes at Rusty's lack of seriousness. "Focus, Rusty! We need to get home and lay low. The last thing we need is to be questioned about what happened."
The group managed to navigate through the pandemonium and make their way out of the school. They headed towards their respective homes.
Lincoln walked back to his house, his mind was still swirling with the weight of what he had done. The guilt gnawed at him as he contemplated the consequences of his impulsive actions. He hoped no one else would get hurt because of his reckless choices.
Just as he reached his street, he heard footsteps approaching from behind. Turning around, he saw his older sister, Lynn Jr, running to catch up with him. Her concerned expression quickly turned to relief when she saw him.
"Lincoln! Thank goodness you're okay," Lynn Jr said, panting slightly from her sprint.
Lincoln tried to put on a brave face, but he couldn't keep the truth inside any longer. "Lynn Jr, I need to tell you something. It's... it's really bad."
Lynn Jr frowned, her concern deepening. "What is it? You can tell me anything, Lincoln."
Taking a deep breath, Lincoln blurted out, "I'm responsible for Canada being nuked. I gave the nuclear remote to Principal Ramirez yesterday because I wanted to be in Mrs. Salter's class with my friends instead of Mr. Bolhofner's class."
Lynn Jr's eyes widened in shock, unable to comprehend what she had just heard. "You... you did what? Are you serious, Lincoln?"
Lincoln nodded, feeling tears welling up in his eyes. "I'm so sorry, Lynn Jr. I never thought it would go this far. I just wanted to be with my friends and didn't think how big of a disaster the nuclear nuke would bring."
Lynn Jr's disbelief slowly turned into a mix of concern and frustration. "Lincoln, you can't just do something like this without thinking about the consequences. What you did was incredibly dangerous and irresponsible. You shouldn't follow someone's order just to archive your goals."
"I know, I know," Lincoln said, his voice choked with emotion. "I regret it so much now. I can't believe I let things get this out of hand."
Lynn Jr placed a comforting hand on Lincoln's shoulder. "You need to promise me that you'll never do something like this again. I don't want to see you get involved in any more dangerous schemes."
"I promise," Lincoln said, tears streaming down his cheeks. "I've learned my lesson, and I'll never do anything like this again. I never meant for any of this to happen."
Lynn Jr hugged her brother tightly, trying to reassure him. "I know you didn't mean for it to go this far, but you need to be more responsible with your actions. Your plan-making skills can be impressive, but they also scare me sometimes. Please promise me you'll think twice before doing anything dangerous again."
"I promise," Lincoln repeated, his voice muffled against Lynn Jr's shoulder.
After a few moments, they both composed themselves and continued walking home together. When they arrived, their parents rushed to hugs them, They were relieved to see them safe.
"We heard about the principal," their mom said, her voice filled with concern. "Are you both okay?"
"We're fine, Mom, nobody got hurt" Lynn Jr assured.
Their dad nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "Good. We're just glad you're safe. And it looks like there won't be school until they hire a new principal."
A week had passed since the explosive incident at Middle School, and Lincoln and Lynn Jr were getting ready to return to their classes. They were still grappling with the aftermath of the events, but life had to move forward. As they stepped into the school gymnasium, they noticed that everyone was gathered, waiting for Meryls to make a big announcement.
Lincoln's friends huddled together, whispering excitedly about whom the new principal could be. Stella speculated it might be an outsider, while Clyde thought it could be someone from another school. Rusty, always one for dramatic ideas, even joked that it could be an alien.
Amidst the speculation, Lincoln remained quiet, his mind still haunted by the memory of his reckless actions and the destruction it caused. He was grateful nobody got hurt, but he couldn't shake off the guilt. Lynn Jr noticed his unease and gave him a reassuring smile.
"Don't worry, Lincoln. Everything will be okay," Lynn Jr whispered.
As Meryls stepped up to the podium, the room fell silent. All eyes were on her as she prepared to deliver the much-awaited news.
"I know you've all been curious about whom the new principal will be," Meryls said, her voice confident. "After much consideration, the school board has made a decision. Our new principal is someone familiar to all of you."
Lincoln's heart skipped a beat as he wondered who it could be. Was it someone he knew? Someone who had seen what he did and was there to punish him?
"And now, without further ado, I am pleased to announce that our new principal is Mr. Bolhofner!" Meryls declared.
The crowd erupted in cheers and applause. Lincoln's eyes widened in surprise, and he exchanged a bewildered look with his friends. Mr. Bolhofner, the same teacher whose class he had been trying to avoid, was now the principal?
As the celebration continued, Lincoln's initial worry gave way to a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe, Mr. Bolhofner would be a better person in this new role. Perhaps he could bring positive changes to the school and ensure everyone's safety.
With cautious optimism, Lincoln approached his friends. "Maybe this is a good thing. Perhaps Mr. Bolhofner will be more understanding and fair as the principal."
Stella nodded, smiling. "You never know, Lincoln. People can surprise you sometimes."
A month had passed since Mr. Bolhofner took over as the new principal of Middle School, and Lincoln noticed a remarkable change. The atmosphere was lighter, and the halls buzzed with positivity and excitement. It seemed like everyone had moved on from the events of the past, including the explosive incident involving the previous principal.
As Lincoln walked through the school courtyard with his friends, he couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. The burden of guilt that had weighed heavily on his shoulders had finally lifted. People were happy and content, and the dark cloud that had loomed over the school seemed to have dissipated.
"Hey, Lincoln, you seem different," Stella observed, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Is everything okay?"
Lincoln grinned, feeling a newfound lightness in his heart. "Yeah, everything's great. I think it's the new principal. Mr. Bolhofner has really changed things around here."
Clyde chimed in, "Yeah, he's not as strict as I thought he'd be. He actually listens to us and takes our opinions into consideration."
"And he's super chill about things," Rusty added. "I thought he was going to be worse than before but turned out, it is the whole opposite!"
Lincoln couldn't help but reflect on the journey that had led him to this point. He is now free from his guilt and fear that had haunted him, He now knows that Middle School will be great.
