Unlike the other girls, Ivy's parents were gone in the early morning and back by dinner. So, there were no genuine concerns in this family. Ivy still needed to learn what her father did as a job. And repeatedly asking them never gave her a straight answer. Ivy felt Nephrite was somewhat ashamed of whatever it was he was doing. Ivy worried as she strolled homeward from a study group at the Crystal Palace.
"Is my Dad a pickpocket? Shoplifter? Thief? Drug Dealer? Killer? No, what am I thinking?! That would break Mom's heart!" Ivy thought as ideas of dishonorable jobs swirled in her head. She knew Naru would not permit any of those shady deals in her or their daughter's life.
When Star told Ivy that Jadite got the cruise because he worked with the liner's company, Ivy hatched a daring plan that would take A LOT of sneaky tact. "Hey, Dad, does your job allow a "take your daughter/son to work" day?" Ivy asked with false innocence.
"No, I have to move around a lot, and that's not a suitable position for a kid," Nephrite replied. He already knew what his beautiful daughter's intentions were.
"Don't worry about your father's job so much, Ivy." Naru gave everyone a plate of food.
"If you just told me what he does, I wouldn't be worried! Is he like an evil spy or something?!" Ivy raged as her braids went flying about.
"Not anymore. The closest thing to that is when I worked for Queen Beryl." Nephrite began eating as he didn't like discussing his past.
"I wouldn't have married him without determining his occupation first." Naru laughed and gave her daughter a loving look, "I couldn't let anything happen to you."
"Even back in the days of the Dark Kingdom, Dad loved you, Mom. He wouldn't have hurt me as I am part of you." Ivy was sure of this.
"I'm unsure if I would have believed you were my daughter. Not many people were returning to the past from the future at that time." Nephrite smiled.
"I guess I would be skeptical too if some strange kid walked up and started calling me "Mom." Ivy giggled. She did fancy the idea of being a mother to multiple kids. But to her own, no adoption or anything like that.
Thanks to Ivy's Voice of Nature ability, she connected with plants as she tailed her father to where he worked. This way, the plants could tell Ivy what he was doing, and she wouldn't get caught! Why did she not think of this brilliance before?! Ivy was shocked when she saw the building her father worked in. Talk about angular! This building has square-shaped levels like Jenga, except for a complete glass window tower at one end.
Looking around, Ivy saw a sign bearing the name Socialite Talent Agency! So, Nephrite worked for a talent agency? That certainly is better than some of the horrible things Ivy imagined. Yet why would her parents not tell her about this? There must be something more! Some trees alerted her when Nephrite was on the move, as the trees were tall and had a better "seeing" range.
Ivy pursued her father to Charter Park. He looked for and conversed there with people who seemed passionate about whatever they were doing. He then gave them a card, in fashion to how a businessman gets clients. After he left, Ivy scooped up on the cards and discovered this was exactly what he was doing. Ivy followed him all day, and that's all he did in every populated spot. Still, it did not make sense why she was not told?!
That night, Ivy had to reveal what she knew. Yet she waited as she would get her chance to speak after her father. "Every day, more and more teenage girls are obsessed with jewelry. It makes me feel ashamed of how much of a headache my friends and I must have been to my Momma." Naru expressed this reaction daily. However, her days working at OSP-A always sounded challenging. "How was your day?"
"Still trying to find clients." Nephrite sighed sadly.
Have you had a pleasant day, dear? Naru smiled at her daughter.
"Why didn't you decide to inform me that Dad worked for a talent agency?" Ivy demanded heatedly. Naru and Nephrite looked terrified, she knew as Ivy continued irritated, "I used Voice Of Nature to track you. I watched you on the lookout for certain people. I know a bunch of people with talent. I could have helped! Why couldn't you tell me about your job?!"
"Sweetie..." Naru's teal eyes fill with tense worry.
"Ivy, do you recollect how I told you I used to accumulate energy?" Nephrite questioned carefully.
"Yeah? You forced people to become obsessed with their talent, and a Youma would help extract the energy." Ivy did know her dad thought pushing yourself resulted in success.
"I still do that...without the obsession. Or the Youma and energy-draining part." Nephrite revealed, still hesitant to explain himself.
"When your father worked for the Dark Kingdom, he posed as an entrepreneur and socialite. He still does, but we didn't want you thinking he was doing it for evil reasons." Naru explained.
"If you had just told me, I wouldn't have thought he was doing anything wrong, and I know stalking isn't right, but the need to know was killing me!" Ivy groaned in exasperation.
"I can't take you to work with me, Ivy. However, I have a three-day weekend, so why don't we get you a nice outfit, and you can help me search for potential clients?" Nephrite saw his daughter's face light up, making her green eyes sparkle, as any time spent with her father was worth it!
Ivy did give business cards to her friends, who had promising talents: Comet (pianist), Asteroid (competitive chess), Gracie (landscaper), Crystal (part-time ballet dancer), Ariel (chef), Holly (track star and clothes designer), Alexis (violinist), and Trisha (hair stylist.)
Of course, Nephrite had to consider they would need time to go to school to perfect their crafts, too. With the Neo-Sailor Senshi using the company, clients started flooding in, which Nephrite could not be happier about. Later, Ivy attended, and though she could not be paired up with her father as a coach, she was only there to improve her gardening skills. One thing Ivy did know: She would not trade her parents off for anything!
