So Kal's parent's programs worked, and he prepared, training in the limited time he had. He did not see the Justice League. He did not see Bruce.

Though in that limited time, something horrifying occurred to him. Another matter to discuss with those programs.

"Would you be able to tell me how long each prisoner has been out of the Phantom Zone?"

And his father's answered, "Yes. Is there a particular reason you want to know?"

"Zod spoke of rebuilding Krypton. I'm wondering if he and the others have already begun. I'm wondering if…"

"If you are asking about possible children, it is not possible to conceive within the Phantom Zone. Nor after getting out, from what we could determine."

Kal was relieved, that he would not be orphaning new-borns with this plan of his, that he would not have to seek out wherever they had been hidden. Yet suspected he wouldn't be when he heard the reason.

"Why?"

"Because of the Phantom Zone itself. I had no working theory as to why, but one of the effects of being sent there is infertility."

"...You mean Krypton not only lobotomized criminals, they sterilized them?"

"Not intentionally, but in result, yes."

"But Zod told me…" Why Kal would be upset, that Zod had lied to him, he did not know. Perhaps to avoid thinking about the fact that no matter what, Krypton's line had come to an end. One last laugh, on the prisoners of the Phantom Zone.

Krypton really had secured its doom.

"He most likely does not know. As I said, neither I nor anyone else could explain why. All tests came back normal."

"So, I guess that's that then."

"You are troubled? By this information?"

Overwhelmed, to the point of numb, was probably a more accurate description of how he was feeling. Brief wonderings, of what he would have been like, had he grown up there, and not here. Would he have so comfortably worn the bangles and jewels of his parents. Would he have so easily accepted that rare punishment as for the greater good.

Yet, he was also with one of the world's richest men. Had been spending his weekends in a manor on a hill in resplendent luxury.

And just as Krypton had decided to put these prisoners in the Phantom Zone, he was deciding to send them back.

Maybe you can't really change.

Maybe things really are set in stone.

Though fortunately, but mostly unfortunately, he did not have time to ponder this anymore.

Back to training.
