Chapter 5 - Sweet Cheeks
Lily's POV
Lily's emerald eyes widened, her gaze fixated on James Potter and Severus Snape, who were sitting across each other, one shocked into silence, and the other staring into the other's mark with wonder as the marks glowed a simmering light.
Lily's heart raced as she saw it—the soul mate symbols etched on the left forearm of James and Severus' on his right. A silver doe and a majestic stag shimmered on their skin, glowing softly as if to confirm the undeniable connection between the two.
Time seemed to stand still as the realization settled over the group. Remus rubbed his eyes in astonishment and Sirius was rendered speechless.
But it was Lily who broke the silence. A gasp escaped her lips, carrying with it a mixture of excitement and awe. She couldn't believe her eyes. Destiny had woven its intricate threads right before her, and it involved her best friend and the boy who they had just met.
As if pulled by an invisible force, James and Severus turned their eyes towards each other. The weight of the situation settled upon them, their expressions switching from surprise to contemplation. It was a delicate situation, one that required careful consideration and understanding.
The rest of the group watched in breathless anticipation, their eyes flickering between the two young men. Lily's mind raced, imagining the endless possibilities that lay before them.
James and Severus sat there, their gazes locked, as if searching for answers in each other's eyes. The crowd of friends held their breath, waiting for the next move, the next reaction that would shape their intertwined futures.
Finally, a flicker of recognition passed between James and Severus. It was a silent acknowledgment, a realization that fate had bound them together in a way they could not ignore. The tension in the air shifted, replaced by a newfound understanding, a shared understanding. They have found their other half.
A smile played on James' lips, and Severus nodded, his dark eyes softening. Their unspoken agreement hung in the air, a promise of something yet to come.
The group erupted into whispers and murmurs, their awe and excitement filling the meadow. Destiny had intervened, and she couldn't wait to see what the future held for this unlikely pair.
Severus' POV
Severus's heart skipped a beat. He couldn't believe it. He turned to look at James, his eyes wide with surprise. The confidence he had seen in James' eyes earlier now held a hint of trepidation, a silent question hanging in the air between them.
At that moment, Severus imagined a future with this boy. There was uncertainty, after all, they had just met. But he also felt a sense of hope. To have discovered their soul mate connection so early in life was a blessing not many were granted. They had the chance to grow together, to understand each other, to shape their lives intertwined.
Severus felt a surge of gratitude. He was lucky, he realized, luckier than he had ever known. After all, his mum didn't find her own soul mate even after all these years and ended up with his father.
He looked back at James, meeting his questioning gaze. Raising his own sleeve even more, he showed James the pairing symbol glowing on his wrist.
A knowing smile appeared on James' face. It was a smile of relief, of understanding, of acceptance. It was also a confirmation that when these symbols glow, the ancient binding was at work, connecting Severus' soul with James. Gathering his thoughts, gave a slight nod in response. It was a silent agreement, a pact of a journey they were about to embark on together.
Severus felt a surge of happiness. It was mixed with relief, a relief that he had found his soul mate, and that it was James Potter, a boy who seemed to hold as much promise and potential as he himself did. The uncertainty of the future was still there, but it was now tinted with the color of hope.
As the Hogwarts Express chugged along the tracks, James Potter sat in a compartment with Severus Snape, their excitement palpable in the air. They had just accepted their sealed soul marks, a rare occurrence that bound two individuals together in a deep and unique connection. It was a momentous occasion, and James couldn't contain his happiness.
"Sev, can you believe it?" James exclaimed, unable to hide his elation. "We're like family now. We'll always be there for each other, just like my parents were."
Severus, caught off guard by James' outpouring of affection, felt a mix of surprise and embarrassment. He blushed, his dark eyes darting away from James' intense gaze. "Yeah, I suppose," he mumbled softly, his voice barely audible. He'll never admit it, but he liked the way James called him by his nickname.
On the other hand, James was not one to hold back his emotions. He leaned in and planted a quick, gentle kiss on Severus' cheek, a spontaneous display of his elation at sealing the bond. Severus froze, his cheeks turning an even deeper shade of red. His heart raced, and he struggled to find words amidst the whirlwind of emotions that engulfed him.
James, captivated by Severus' adorable reaction, couldn't resist himself. He leaned in again and kissed Severus' other cheek, a mischievous grin playing on his lips. "You're just too cute, Sev," he teased affectionately.
Just as the moment between James and Severus unfolded, Sirius, with his signature smirk, nudged Remus playfully. "Do see what I'm seeing, Remus?" Wiggling his eyebrows, he continued, "Well, well, Sev. Looks like you've got yourself a new boyfriend," he quipped, winking at James.
Remus, ever the calm and observant one, chuckled softly. "Looks like we've got ourselves a love connection, ladies and gentlemen."
Lily, her eyes sparkling with amusement, joined in the teasing. "Severus, I never knew you had a soft spot for James. Should we start calling you Jeverus?"
Severus, mortified by the sudden attention and the teasing from his friends, sank deeper into his seat, wishing the ground would swallow him whole. He flushed, a mixture of embarrassment and annoyance crossing his features. He was not used to being the center of attention, especially in such a vulnerable moment. Yet, he couldn't deny the newfound warmth in his heart, even if it was still unfamiliar.
James, ever the defender of his friends, shot a mock glare at Sirius, Remus, and Lily. "Alright, alright, enough teasing. Can't a bloke be happy without being subjected to your relentless banter?"
Sirius grinned unapologetically. "Not a chance, Jamie~ Where's the fun in that?"
Remus, his tone gentler, spoke up. "In all seriousness, James, Severus, we're happy for you. It's a rare occurrence to seal your bond this early, and we're here to support you, no matter what."
Lily nodded in agreement, her teasing expression softening into one of genuine warmth. "Congrats, guys! I'm a bit jealous, I also wish to find my partner soon."
The compartment filled with a mixture of laughter and heartfelt words, the teasing slowly fading into an acceptance of the connection between James and Severus. In that moment, surrounded by friends who cared for them, James and Severus realized that they were embarking on a journey that would shape their lives in ways they couldn't yet comprehend. And with the support of their friends, they felt more confident in facing whatever challenges lay ahead.
The Hogwarts Express let out a final, hissing breath as it came to a stop at Hogsmeade Station. The doors opened, and a sea of excited students poured out onto the platform. Among them were James Potter, Severus Snape, Sirius Black, Lily Evans, and Remus Lupin, all about to embark on their first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
As James stepped onto the platform, his eyes immediately sought out Severus. He remembered Severus' adorable blushing face, the taste of his soft cheeks, the symbol they shared and felt a lingering satisfaction envelop him. With a small but confident smile, he reached out and took Severus by the hand, intertwining their fingers, leading him towards the boats that would take them to the castle. "C'mon, let's go!"
Severus, caught off guard by James' bold action, felt his cheeks flush crimson. He's not used to this! His heart pounded in his chest, and his mind raced with a mix of embarrassment and excitement. He was used to being the outcast, the loner, and yet here was James, openly showing his interest in him. It was both exhilarating and unnerving.
Severus opened his mouth to protest, to let James know that this kind of attention was new and overwhelming to him. But the words caught in his throat, and he couldn't bring himself to pull away from James' grasp. Instead, he simply held on, his fingers entwined with James', his hand fitting perfectly in the other boy's.
Watching them were Sirius and Lily, both with wide smiles on their faces. Sirius, with his mischievous grin, nudged Lily and motioned towards the two boys. Lily chuckled, her green eyes sparkling with amusement.
"Come on, let's join them," Sirius suggested, moving to follow James and Severus.
As they reached the lake, the boats swayed gently in the moonlight, awaiting their passengers. James, Severus, Sirius, and Lily climbed into one, while Remus found himself in another boat with two unfamiliar children. Just as the boats began to glide across the water, luck intervened, and Sirius' twin sister, Cassiopeia, hopped into Remus' boat, filling it with a sense of familiarity.
The two greeted each other again with smiles and sat beside each other. The other students all sat quietly, watching the scenery around them in awe.
Once settled in the boat, Sirius and Lily watched as James and Severus interacted. James was obviously trying to make Severus feel comfortable, talking about the castle and their upcoming classes, while Severus, still flustered, listened quietly, stealing occasional glances at James, feeling a mixture of flustered embarrassment and a strange sense of belonging. But despite his inner turmoil, he still didn't let go of James' hand. He held on, finding solace and comfort in the touch of the boy's warmth.
The boat ride turned out to be a mix of nervous anticipation and silent bonding moments for all of them. As they approached the castle, its warm lights reflecting in the water, they felt a sense of camaraderie build, a sense of belonging. They were about to begin a journey of a lifetime, together.
