New chapter and some new arrivals from familiar Marvel characters will appear here! Also, I should note for the record, that in the Spectacular Spiderman universe, the current year is 2010. Since Season 1 came out in 2008 and Season 2 came out in 2009, it just made sense to me for Season 3.

Chapter 2: Surprise Arrivals

"You know, I guess one person can make a difference."

x-x-x-x-x

Their daily patrol had tallied up to thwarting 3 muggings, 2 robberies, and even an attempted assault. Now, the Spider Duo were currently swinging through the New York cityscape before they ended the day with a romantic dinner for two, as Peter and Gwen. Ghosty called out as she swung to her partner's left, "Hey Spidey, check this out!"

"What?" Spiderman asked as he looked over to his partner in mid-swing before she attempted something wild.

She web swung and released, propelling herself into the air. She followed up with a series of backflips before she ended up falling toward the ground in a spin dive. Her partner watched in suspense before she shot two webs from her hands, sticking them to buildings on opposite sides of the street, stretching them to their max and stopping her when she only a few feet from touching the ground. Hitting the apex, the inertia was released and she slingshot herself into the air crying WAHOO as she passed her partner who watched her fly with wide mask eyes. Ghosty flipped over a couple times in the air before she shot another web at a nearby flagpole, pulled herself to it and spun around it before releasing herself in the direction she came. She finished as she web swung right back alongside Spidey.

"Haha! So whatcha think?" she asked him.

"Very nice! You've been working on that haven't ya?" Spiderman commented as he swung beside her.

Ghost Spider happily replied as she flew through the air, "haha, yup! And it was worth the effort!" The two spiders continued their fun as they ended up unknowingly swinging by the back entrance of a major attraction. Their joyous attitudes were interrupted as they felt their spider senses tingle. Spiderman swung his way over to the roof landing on all fours with Ghost Spider following next to him all the same.

"You felt that right?" he asked her.

"Yeah I did, it came once we passed here," Ghosty said before she and Spidey stood up and walked over to the edge to look over the side to see the iconic front entrance with the plaza statue.

"The Museum of Natural History?" Spiderman questioned, "we better check it out."

Ghost Spider nodded before they walked further along the roof to the nearest skylight, one that was just above the artifact room. Looking inside, they saw the center display which housed the main attraction of the exhibit, but nobody was around, not even a guard.

Spiderman said quietly, "Hmm, nothing seems out of place, maybe we should try another window…"

"Wait!" his partner halted him in a whisper before she pointed inside, "...look again."

He followed to where she was pointing, and they both saw a strangely green garbed man with dark skin walk into the exhibit from the west side entrance, heading directly for the center display. Spiderman wondered if this guy was the reason their spider senses went off. It was quickly answered as the duo watched with amazement as the man pulled off some stunning effects with his hands and ended them as the medallion fell into his hand without raising the alarm.

Thinking she had seen more than enough, Ghosty asked, "ok, who's the Mysterio wannabe?"

"No idea," Spiderman replied, shaking his head, "not someone I've ever met before. Though it's clear he's not just someone who got lost in the last tour. Looks like we better go introduce ourselves."

"My thoughts exactly," Ghost Spider said, ready to thwart this thief like she had so many others with Spiderman, no matter what powers he may have. They quietly picked the lock on the skylight before crawling inside on the ceiling. They were just in time to hear the man say to himself, "at last, it's mine, and next, will be my vengeance…"

"Excuse me, but do you mean us?..." The magician's attention was quickly diverted upward as he saw New York's spectacular duo sticking to the ceiling, just in time to hear Spiderman finish his quip, "...although neither my name nor her name is 'Vengeance', so you'll have to revise your statement."

"You appear to be lost sir, and in more ways than one," Ghost Spider said taking her turn, "hasn't anyone ever told you that stealing from museums is a crime?"

He narrowed his eyes at the duo before speaking harshly, "I've read about you two, Spiderman and Ghost Spider, the Spider Duo."

"The one and only…" Spiderman replied in a mocking showman accent before asking, "...and who are you? Mysterio's apprentice?"

The magician recoiled in disgust before angrily retorting, "you dare associate ME with that…PRETENDER?! He is nothing more than a fool who impersonates true magic! And magic, is what Mordo is!"

He made some odd movements with his hands, making them glow, before steadying them to reveal themselves coated in some type of green abstract, stunning the Spider Duo. He thrust his hands out, sending the abstracts toward them, their spider senses alerted them of danger, coercing them to jump and dodge before the green blasts made impact.

BAAMM!

Dust and rubble from the impact flew through the air as the spiders ended up sticking to opposite sides of the room. The assailant now identified as Mordo observed them both before he thrust a palm each toward them, sending a green spear construct in their direction which they dodged again by jumping. The spears vanished as soon as they embedded, leaving indents behind.

Spiderman couldn't believe it, he was firing projectiles from his hands like Mysterio, but these weren't special effects or illusions, they were real! Any doubt was eliminated as Mordo reached out with one hand and released another wave of energy that cracked the column Spiderman was sticking to and collapsed it. The shock threw the webhead to the ground, where he landed with a yelping THUD and lay still away from the impact zone.

"Spiderman no!" Ghost Spider cried out. Seeing him prone on the ground caused her to shoot a Spider-LOOK straight at the wizard and hissed, "you're gonna pay for that!"

She jumped toward him only for Mordo to reach out with a green tendril from his hand which wrapped around her body allowing him to whip her away into another museum case, "Wooaah!"...SMASH!

Mordo declared, "You're out of your depth child."

He whipped her around again and sent her flying into the opposite room, smashing her into another display. Spiderman had just regained consciousness only to see his partner tossed away.

"No, Ghost!" He cried as Mordo turned back to him and warned the hero as the green aura enveloped his arms again.

"You two should have stuck with protecting mortals."

The webhead narrowed his eyes and retorted, "and you should have stayed in whatever circus you came from."

He shot a web at him directly, only for Mordo to block it with energy shields, ripping the web apart and tossing constructs at Spiderman. He jumped all over the exhibit as he acrobatically avoided each shot. The agility of the spider hero was slowly ebbing at Mordo's patience.

Ghost Spider slowly picked herself up from the ruined case display she was smashed into. She shook the stars from her head before looking ahead to see Mordo attempt to hit Spiderman with more green blasts. Deciding on a new approach, she jumped back into action.

Mordo continued his assault on the elusive Spiderman, until he felt his arms restrained behind his back. His confusion turned to shock as he felt himself wrapped up in an invisible material from behind. It soon resumed its visibility, and it was revealed to be an invisible web cocoon, courtesy of Ghost Spider. Spiderman thought to himself as he observed from his wall perch, 'haha, that one never gets old.'

Ghost Spider resumed her visibility in front of the cocooned wizard and taunted, "surprise, you're not the only one with tricks you Merlin wannabee."

Mordo merely remained silent yet smirked underneath his bindings. He instantly turned himself into green smoke, surprising Ghosty as she saw the web bindings fall to the ground. The smoke regathered itself next to her as Mordo reformed and reached out with one hand expelling a tendril which wrapped her up all the same and pulled her into the air.

"Merlin is nothing compared to me, little girl."

"Let her go!" Spiderman shouted as he swung in with a double kick, only for Mordo to block it with another green colored construct which formed into some sort of chute which Spiderman fell into and slid out on the other side with a tumble between two columns. Mordo finished by throwing Ghost Spider his way, making her collide with her partner in a tumbled heap.

With both spiders right where he wanted them, Mordo pulled another new move. He summoned a sphere with both hands and threw it into the air above them. The spiders had just gotten back to their feet in time to see the sphere construct above them explode into pieces, and those pieces propelled toward the spiders, forcing them to jump, bend and roll out of the way of each one.

They finished dodging the last one before hiding behind the two pillars separately. Catching his breath, Spiderman said, "ok, I'm starting to think that unlike fishbowl-head, this guy is no fake!"

Ghost Spider sarcastically replied, "oh really? You think?"

Mordo told them both, "your courage is admirable young ones, but irritating nonetheless."

"We're pests, what do you expect?" Spidey quipped.

"And like pests, you'll be exterminated!" Mordo declared before sending out a wave of energy that forced them to jump away from their pillars as they crumbled to dust.

Ghost Spider stuck herself to the ceiling before quipping, "I can't tell you how many times we've heard that one before!"

The battle resumed as Mordo covered his arms in green energy again, and started lashing out at the two of them with green tendrils. It was similar to how Doc Ock, Carnage, or Hydro Man had used their tentacles against them in the past. Although both spiders knew that whoever this Mordo was, he was unlike any enemy they had encountered before.

Suddenly in the midst of their fight, a sudden spectacle grabbed everyone's attention. Orange sparks appeared out of thin air near the medallion's empty case, and soon grew in intensity and shape as they formed an orange circular swirling portal. Stepping out of the portal, was a dark-haired man wearing garments similar to Mordo, but with red, blue and yellow accents in his robes. He had full goatee with streaks of gray hair, and he wore a red cloak which seemed to ripple behind him. It was linked together with a golden medallion with a strange insignia that clipped together like a cuff link. The newcomer turned to face the green wizard with an adamant glare.

"Mordo! Your insane conquest ends now!" he declared.

Mordo smirked at his new opponent, "Strange, it's been a while old friend. I expected you would interfere sooner or later."

Together on the ground, Spidey and Ghosty said to each other in tandem, "oh great, another one? One real magician was bad enough, but two?!...Pay attention, they're clearly not friendly with each other, we need to learn more."

The sorcerer known as Strange turned to see the empty case behind him, and immediately turned back to Mordo, "where is it?!"

"Looking for this?" Mordo said in a taunting manner holding up the medallion he stole and kept gripped in his right hand, "I believe the phrase is, first come first serve."

"Not this time it's not, give it up now," Strange declared.

"Try and take it if you can, doctor," Mordo mocked before he turned his attention to his fresh magical opponent, and released tendrils against him. Dr. Strange showcased his talents and brought up his hands to block them with an orange-colored shield construct with strange markings. He switched his defense to offense and sent the shield straight at Mordo who summoned a green construct sword with his left hand and split it apart with one SWIPE.

Mordo then lunged at Strange with his new weapon and attacked with a Horse cut strike. Strange summoned more shields and blocked his attack. Mordo and Strange proceeded with their showdown as the green wizard kept trying to cut away at Strange with sword strikes which the red cloaked wizard continued to block. Spiderman and Ghost Spider were in awe of what they were witnessing.

"Woah, no offense to old Kung fu movies, but Bruce Lee has got nothing on this," whispered Spiderman to a wide-eyed Ghost Spider.

Strange shifted his shields to tendrils of his own, which he used to reach out and grab Mordo's blade and pull it out of his hand. It dematerialized as Strange altered the tendrils with his hand movements and shrunk them around Mordo, forming an orange capsule that slowly closed in on him. He finished the spell by closing the capsule like a pill, trapping Mordo inside, at least for now. His opponent contained for the moment, the sorcerer turned around to face the gaping costumed heroes behind him.

"Hello," he greeted simply.

"Who are you?" asked Spiderman.

"My name is Dr. Stephen Strange, Sorcerer Supreme of the Order of Mystic Arts."

Spidey and Ghosty were shocked as the former said, "Sorcerer? As in real magic? No way, magic doesn't exist! There's no scientific base!"

"Magic is just science that isn't understood yet, kid," said Strange.

Ghosty recognized the quote, "Arthur C. Clarke."

"Exactly," Dr. Strange nodded while Spidey was curious.

"Where did you learn that?" he asked her.

She calmly answered, "I read more than our textbooks, you know?"

Spidey just sighed at her hint of smugness before asking the Doc gesturing to Mordo's capsule prison, "So what's the deal with this guy? Is he one of yours?"

Dr. Strange explained, "he used to be, his name is Baron Mordo. He was once a lead member of our order, and had been part of them even longer than I have. However, he let his ambition and pride grow greater than his power, forcing our late leader, the Ancient One, to banish him from our order. Since then, he's gone rogue across the planet, searching for any and all ancient sources of mystical power to strengthen himself."

"So he's just another typical power-hungry maniac huh? Sigh, we deal with those all the time." Spiderman said, "though this is the first time we've met one that's a wizard."

"He's not wrong there," Ghosty added, which Strange rolled his eyes at, reminding himself why he doesn't deal with teenagers.

"We're sorcerers actually, wizards are from fairy tales," Strange clarified, just before Mordo finally broke free from his capsule prison, regathering their attention.

"Nice try," he declared, "but I've waited too long and come too far to allow YOU of all people to stop me."

"Save it Mordo," said Strange before returning to the matter of the medallion, "you've done enough damage over the years, and I'll be dead before I let you do anything to the timestream!"

"Works for me," Baron Mordo retorted, and he raised both his arms once again, encasing them in green energy. A plethora of green arrow tips suddenly appeared behind him, aiming right at the trio. He thrust his palms forward, sending them their way, and Dr. Strange pulled up another shield larger than the ones before it. The arrows clanged against the shield but didn't break through as the sorcerer and the spiders kept themselves concealed behind it.

His diversion over, Baron Mordo then summoned around him a dome construct covered with strange symbols. Dr. Strange lowered his shield just as Mordo went and put the medallion around his neck while underneath the dome.

"No!" Strange shouted and proceeded to attack the dome to get to the rogue sorcerer. Mordo's dome however did its job as it protected him from the tendrils that merely bounced off his conjured protection. He smirked before proceeding with the ritual incantation that would activate the medallion and unleash the power that he had sought it for. He moved his hands in a peculiar manner before speaking aloud in a Latin context at the same time.

"STOP!" Strange ordered, as he continued attacking the dome with more conjured weapons and blasts. The spiders watched in awe before they noticed Mordo's actions within the dome.

"What is he doing with that necklace?" Ghosty asked.

Dr. Strange answered, "It's called the Tempus Madayo! Old legends say it has the power to alter time, and if Mordo succeeds in activating it, he can cause irreparable damage!"

Spidey then said, "that doesn't sound good, we need to break through that shield!"

"How can we? If even Doc Stranges magic isn't working?" Ghosty questioned.

Spiderman observed the giant chandelier above Mordo's dome, and thought of something crazy, again, "well, there's something to be said for a blunt approach."

She followed his gaze to the chandelier and picked up the context, "oh boy, you realize how much of a mess that will make right?"

"You got a better idea?" he asked her.

Ghosty finally relented and said, "nope. Alright, let's do it."

They jumped to the ceiling and crawled over to the base that anchored it to the ceiling. Using their spider strength, they broke through the rod, allowing the chandelier to fall on top of the dome with a big CRASH! Shards of metal and glass were flown, which made Dr. Strange protect himself with his cloak. Mordo struggled to maintain his dome with the weight on top of it while finishing the incantation. Just then, the dome broke, and the ruined ceiling decoration collapsed on top of him, dispersing him into green smoke. A few feet away from the ruined chandelier and dome, Mordo reformed himself as he glared up at the Spider Duo, who jumped down to the ground to face him.

"You two will pay for interfering in my affairs," he declared.

"Yeah, I've heard that perhaps a hundred times by now in my crime fighting career," Spiderman quipped, "but meddling in the affairs of bad guys is what we spiders do best."

"What he said," Ghost Spider added, "now face the facts Baron, between the three of us, your comeuppance has arrived, and you're out of time!"

"Out of time…" Baron Mordo muttered, before gazing down at the Tempus Madayo medallion that was now glowing around his neck. He turned up to face the spiders with a wicked smirk, "...an excellent idea!"

Dr. Strange was horrified at what he just heard and was seeing, as Mordo had managed to finish activating the medallion before his dome collapsed, and with its power, he could…

"You two GET BACK! He's gonna…" SHOOOOMMMM!...It was too late, with a wave of his hands, Mordo opened up a new portal in front of the Spider Heroes. Unlike Strange's sling ring portal, this one had a red colored aura, and its maw was pitch black with lightning effects within it. The Spider heroes observed the portal with horror, for whatever Mordo had conjured up now certainly didn't look inviting. To make it worse, it had a vacuum effect added to it, which slowly sucked them in.

"Ugh! What is that?!" Ghosty shouted as she struggled to keep her footing.

"I don't know! But we gotta get away from it, come on!" Spidey shouted back as they struggled to turn around. The vacuum only grew stronger, forcing them to their knees and to use their spider abilities to try and crawl away. Unfortunately, the strength of the portal only grew more, surpassing even their spider strength, and the duo ended up being pulled off the floor and into the portal's maw, where everything went black.

All seemed calm despite the cloudy skies that were overseeing the usual hustle and bustle of the city below, but today it would be the sight of something new and unusual even by city standards. Thunder suddenly echoed through the sky, only there was no lighting preluding it, because it wasn't a natural phenomenon. It's true nature was revealed when a mile above one of the city skyscrapers, a red toned portal appeared out of nowhere, the roar of its maw echoing through the air as two costumed bodies fell out of it and into the sky toward the ground.

The vortex had closed behind them just as soon as Spiderman and Ghost Spider regained their bearings, and saw to their horror, the approaching ground gaining fast as they continued their freefall!

"WHAT THE?!" Ghost Spider cried out in shock.

"Web-chute! NOW!" Spiderman shouted over the rippling wind.

The duo quickly pulled off one of their trademark moves by shooting webs overhead each forming a parachute. The makeshift canopies quickly halted their descent, allowing them to safely touchdown on the rooftop below them. They caught their breath as they settled themselves.

"Whew, that was close," Spiderman said.

"Huff…sure was," Ghost Spider said before asking, "what was that we fell into anyway?"

"Not sure, my first concern was it being some form of miniature black hole, but given that we're still alive and in one piece, I'm happy to have been wrong," Spiderman commented before walking over to the rooftop edge, "although, wherever it landed us, sure isn't New York anymore, look at this."

Ghost Spider joined him, and what they both were seeing defied comprehension. Below them was an entirely new cityscape from what they were used to. The buildings looked more streamlined than the New York tenant buildings they remembered, and even looked cleaner! The streets below seemed to flow just as busy as ever, but there seemed to be less congestion in certain areas. Though it was hard to tell from a distance.

"Where are we?" Ghost Spider finally asked.

"I don't know, but I don't think its New York," Spiderman answered.

Ghost Spider interrupted, "...uh, you might wanna RE-think that." She deduced from what she was seeing in the distance behind her partner.

"Why?" he asked, only to be nonverbally answered when she pointed behind him. He turned around and couldn't believe his mask covered eyes. In the waterbody behind the building they were standing on, they could clearly make out the shape of an island, with an all too familiar green skinned fair lady in a tunic wearing a crown, while holding a tablet in one hand and a torch over her head in the other. The iconic statue of Lady Liberty standing tall on her island ceased any doubts for the spiders about where they were.

But while one question was answered, several more took its place, such as if this was New York City, then why the sudden change in the buildings? Were they teleported instead? Even if they were, how could things have changed so fast?

Spiderman took the lead, "if we're really still in New York, then we need to get back to the museum immediately, the Doc needs our help."

Ghost Spider nodded in agreement and they both jumped off the building and swung their way toward the museum, only to be met with more surprises on the way. They hadn't swung their first block, and already they had to stop and stick to the nearest wall in surprise from what they were seeing on the New York streets up close!

Driving up and down the streets were vehicles like nothing they had ever seen. They were more streamlined than the ones they remembered, and some didn't even look like they had wheels as they were covered. On that note, the taxi cabs didn't have wheels at all, as they were literally hovering over the street! Those few things were far from the only changes that had them shocked.

Miniature RC sized robots were zipping around the sidewalks cleaning up refuse. 3-dimensional holographic projections were in place of the old advertising boards displaying daily news posts and market ads. People were walking around in flashy clothes and wearing odd things like smartwatches that displayed their own holographic projections, and glasses that resembled a VR setup. Lastly, at a construction site across from the building they were perched on, they saw crew members working with both vehicular and humanoid robots ranging from big to small through tablet controllers. They were performing tasks like pouring concrete uniformly or lifting heavy loads of girders into a pile or even holding them in place so crew members could fasten them.

Seeing all of this in one block, Spiderman voiced his concerns to a just as surprised Ghost Spider, "Ghosty, I have a funny feeling we aren't in OUR New York anymore."

The duo continued their way to the museum, though in a more incognito manner to avoid gathering any unwanted attention. Now realizing this wasn't the New York they knew, the teenage superheroes didn't want to risk a mob if they were sighted. They eventually made it to the street that crossed in front of the Natural History Museum, which hadn't changed from what they remembered. It was still constructed in the same neoclassical design with the columns and the statue that stood outside its front entrance. The plaza on the other hand, was a different story!

The plaza was now a huge circular indent in the area a couple feet deep, with a large circular fountain in the middle above which a 3D holographic display was seen, giving elaborate and even beautiful displays and advertisements of the museum's current attractions.

Ghost Spider said, "well, that certainly wasn't there before!"

Spiderman replied, "nope, although the new addition has my approval, I'm still wondering how all this is even possible? We were just here!" He looked down to see a city patron who held one of those holographic tablets in his hand, and appeared to be reading an online news article.

Spiderman turned to Ghost Spider, "Ghosty, can you sneak up and peek at one of those holo-news displays?"

Ghost Spider looked down to see what he was talking about, and saw something that made her suggest, "or maybe we can check one ourselves?" She pointed down to a pile of deactivated display sticks, in a bin marked for recycling.

Spiderman saw and shrugged, "...that works too." He took careful aim, and fired a web shot at one, and yanked it toward him quick enough that no one saw. Holding the display stick in hand, which was the size of a breadstick, Spidey and Ghosty analyzed it wondering how it worked. Activating it was simple, as there was an ON button off to its right side which he pressed, making the screen shoot up from it in front of him.

"Woah! Cool!" Spidey said enthusiastically.

"Fascinating," Ghost Spider said in awe, "you know under different circumstances I'd be interested to learn how these things work, but it's best we focus on our current dilemma."

"Right, well, if this thing is like a touchscreen, then I should be able tooo…aha!" Spiderman exclaimed as he used his finger to swipe the holographic display, changing it to a different page. Realizing that it was no different than a tablet, albeit more high-tech, Spiderman scrolled through its home screen functions until he found what he was looking for, a calendar. Upon opening it up, it highlighted the current date which Spidey read aloud…

"Current date says, November 10th…2035?!"

The two of them fell flat on their rear ends, the shock was too great to explain. Spiderman finally asked in a baffled tone, "Ghost, you're reading this too, right?"

Ghost Spider replied with a speechless tone, "November tenth, two thousand thirty-five?!"

Spidey finally realized the shocking truth of where, and when they were, "we're in the future…we're 25 years in the future?!"

After several minutes of coming to grasp where the vortex had ended up transporting them, the spider duo struggled to collect themselves as they realized their newfound dilemma. It was no wonder everything looked so familiar and yet so different! Going into the museum was pointless now since the fight between Dr. Strange and Baron Mordo was no longer happening. It had in fact ended over two decades ago, though now they wondered one thing…how were they going to get home?!

"This is unbelievable, not to mention impossible!" Spiderman exclaimed as he paced back and forth with his partner watching him, "...time travel isn't real, heck it's not even possible! It's been scientifically disproven!"

Ghost Spider reminded him, "newsflash Spidey, what brought us here was magic, not science!"

"I distinctly recall you and Doc saying that magic is just science that isn't understood yet, am I right?" Spiderman reminded her back.

"That's not the!...Urgh, look, trying to make sense of this is getting us nowhere!" Ghost Spider said ending the argument, "what matters now is finding a way to fix this and get home, to our OWN time. Given what we've just experienced, there's only one logical way to do that, we have to find Dr. Strange, or at least someone from his order."

"That I can agree with," Spiderman nodded in acknowledgement, "but how are we going to do that? We don't even know where he lives, or if he's even still around at this time?"

Ghost Spider thought for a moment before responding, "we'll have to do some research, let's start with…"

BOOOMMM!...She was interrupted when the sound of an explosion caught their attention. They turned around to where it originated from and saw a funnel of smoke emitting from in between the buildings. Spiderman immediately switched their objective, "Looks like that will have to wait, we better see what that was."

"Are you sure? I know we're always the first to jump into action, but in OUR time. Is it right to interfere here?" Ghost Spider questioned.

Spiderman shook his head, feeling the weight of Uncle Ben's death while answering, "past, present, or future, the responsibility always stays the same, protecting those who can't protect themselves, right?"

His words were true and restored her priorities and resolve. Ghosty said with a nod of her head, "right! Let's go."

Welcome to the future Spider Duo! What awaits them in a world yet to come? Read on and find out!
