Neji couldn't shake off the nagging feeling that there was more to Tenten's anger than met the eye. Determined to understand their complicated emotions, he sought her out after class one day.
As he approached Tenten, who was studying in the university courtyard, he took a deep breath and began, "Tenten, can we talk?"
Tenten looked up from her books, her guard up, but she nodded, "Sure, what is it?"
Neji hesitated for a moment before speaking, "I want to know why you've been distant and annoyed with me. Was it because of Shion, or was there something else?"
Tenten's brows furrowed, and she replied, "Shion is not the reason, Neji. It's just... I don't know, things changed between us after that incident in our first year."
"What incident?" Neji probed gently, wanting to understand her perspective.
"When you started dating Kin," Tenten replied with a hint of sadness in her voice. "I thought we were becoming friends, but it felt like you just brushed me aside when you got into a relationship."
Neji looked surprised by her revelation, "Tenten, I didn't mean to push you away. I thought you were mad at me for poking you, so I gave you space."
Tenten sighed, "It wasn't just that, Neji. I thought maybe I had misunderstood your intentions. I didn't want to be just another girl who falls for you, and it hurt to see you with someone else."
Neji's expression softened, "I had no idea you felt that way. Kin and I didn't date. They were just rumors. I only dated after you said that I annoy you and you became distant. It was with Fuu but it did not last long because she was possessive and sabotaged my work. But it had nothing to do with you. I valued our friendship, and I didn't want to lose that."
Tenten looked down, trying to process his words. "I guess I let my insecurities get the better of me," she admitted quietly.
Neji stepped closer, "Tenten, you're more than just another girl to me. You're smart, talented, and independent. I admire that about you, and I didn't want to lose you as a friend."
Tenten's heart skipped a beat at his words, and she met his gaze. "I didn't want to lose you either," she confessed, her walls crumbling. "But it was hard seeing you with someone else, and I didn't know how to deal with it."
"I'm sorry if I made you feel that way," Neji said sincerely. "I should have been more open about my feelings. But Tenten, I want you to know that you mean a lot to me, and I value our friendship more than anything."
Tenten felt her heart warming at his words, and a small smile tugged at her lips. "I value our friendship too, Neji. And I'm sorry for pushing you away."
Neji reached out and gently took her hand in his, "Can we start over? Let's be honest with each other and not let misunderstandings come between us."
Tenten nodded, feeling a sense of relief, "I'd like that."
And just like that, the weight of their unspoken resentments lifted, leaving room for a new beginning between Neji and Tenten. As they continued to talk and share their feelings, they realized that their bond had grown stronger over time. And from that day on, they made a promise to be more open with each other and cherish the friendship that had blossomed between them.
