I don't own Digimon.
The rain pattering against the kitchen window partially sullied Ken's mood. The sudden rain wasn't predicted by the weather report, it just came out of nowhere. He did feel bad for his parents who had gone out shopping while he was nice and warm in his apartment.
"Somethings can't be predicted I guess." he muttered. He had planned to go out and meet Davis for a game in the park, but thanks to the rain, that plan was put on hold.
"Wormmon?" Ken's call from the living room stirred Wormmon, who was resting on his bed. A few seconds later Ken stuck his head into the room, giving a small smile at the sight. "Sorry Wormmon, I didn't realise you were sleeping."
Wormmon shook his head. "I wasn't sleeping, just..." The Digimon paused as Ken climbed up to his bed. "Just thinking."
"About what?" Ken asked.
"About us." Wormmon replied. "How grateful I am that we're partners." Ken smiled at that. "I know that I say that all the time, but it's true." Ken gave a chuckle and petted Wormmon.
"You can repeat it as many times as you want, and it will still be true." Wormmon looked up at Ken. "If it wasn't for you..." He trailed off before shaking his head. "I don't even know what kind of mess I'd be in."
"Ken..."
"For one, I'd still be prancing around with a cape and a whip. And my emotion's would be like this rain." The indigo haired boy grimaced as he looked out the window before his expression shifted back into a smile. "I wouldn't have met the other Digidestined and become friends with everyone. You and the others chased the clouds away." Wormmon hummed as Ken said that, liking the metaphor.
"And if those clouds ever come back, we'll help you chase them away." Wormmon replied, making Ken smile.
Silence permeated the room and the only thing that either of them could hear was the whir of Ken's computer and the sound of the rain on the doors to the balcony. Neither of them said anything, not wanting to spoil this moment.
They were brought out of the moment by Ken's phone beeping.
"What is it?" Wormmon asked.
"It's Davis. He's asking where I am. Don't tell me he's been waiting out in the-" It was only then when he noticed a patch of sunlight shining in the room. "Rain."
"Knowing Davis, he would have taken shelter under a tree." Ken smiled and got down from his bed as Wormmon scurried over to the ladder.
"Or he just played by himself. At least if he gets a cold in the next few days we'll know why." Ken gave a nod, making a note to make sure that he bought some medicine for Davis if it came to that.
"Yeah. It's a good thing that the sun's out. I didn't really want to stay inside today." He turned to look out the window again. "Not when the weather's this nice." he said as he gently helped Wormmon down off of the bed. The worm fixed itself on Ken's shoulder before he grabbed his bag and an umbrella, just in case the rain came back.
"Ken!" Wormmon's excited chirp came as he was leaving his apartment. He pointed up towards the sky, making the Chosen of Kindness follow the eyeline. He smiled when he saw what Wormmon was pointing at. A rainbow, stretching all across the sky.
"You know, there are some stories saying that a rainbow is a promise that something bad that happened will never happen again." Ken said.
"Well, I think that's very true." Wormmon replied. Ken gave his partner a smile as he headed off, ready to enjoy the rest of the clear sunny day, which had started with so much rain.
A/N: Well, this went all over the place. My first idea was for Ken and Kari to meet Koichi and Koji and for them to start talking, then it shifted to Ken and Wormmon talking until it finally shifted into the story it is now.
I must apologise for my lack of uploads. I'm still working on my fanfic's; it's just that real life (and an ever increasing wip pile!) has seen to it that it will be a while between uploads. On the plus side when I do upload, it will give you guys something to look forward to.
Happy Odaiba Day! Please feel free to share your favourite Digimon memories.
