A/N: So, this takes place at some point in the first few episodes of season 4. About after the time Daisy reunites with S.H.I.E.L.D. Shoutout to author Stand with Ward and Queen with his one shot "Consequences for a captain", which inspired me to write this.
In the main mission room, Coulson, Mack, Fitz, Simmons, Daisy, and May met with Jeffrey Mace, the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D. The agents were somewhat confused when they were called to the mission room, that too soon after S.H.I.E.L.D. had been announced public. Considering their somewhat strained, complex relationship with the director, none of the agents had a feeling that this was a social call. Whatever it was, it was strictly and strongly business. It had to have been serious too, considering that the director himself had called them.
"Thank you all for coming," Mace said. "Before we start, I just want to say this is not a social call."
"You can say that again." May muttered.
Mace rolled his eyes as he ignored May's retort. "We have a serious issue to contend with, one that is going to be taking up a serious amount of time for…well, months."
"Director, what's going on?" Simmons asked in a concerned voice, not liking the sudden tension of the situation.
Before Mace could answer, another voice conquered the room.
"Excuse me," an unfamiliar voice said. "I'm looking for Daisy Johnson."
Everyone turned around as they saw a five-foot-eight-inch tall man in a business casual suit standing away from them. The man was clearly blind judging by his cane and his glasses, which had circle-shaped red lenses that covered his eyes completely. In his right hand, he held his cane, in his other, he held a folder with some papers in it.
"That would be me," Daisy announced, having a feeling that she would regret doing so. "Can I help you?"
"My name is Matt Murdock," the man declared. "I'm an attorney."
"Mr. Murdock," Mace said as he stepped forward. "Forgive me, I wasn't expecting you this early."
"No worries, Director," Matt insisted. "I've always been one to make an entrance. Here."
Matt handed Mace the folder as the director gently took it.
"Right…thank you." Mace replied as he nodded.
"What's going on here?" Coulson asked. "Why do we have an attorney here?"
"About that…" Matt said as he adjusted his glasses before holding the grip of his cane with both his hands as he kept it in front of him. "Daisy Johnson, you're being summoned."
"What?" the bomb-like response from Daisy and the agents was strongly anticipated by Mace and Matt.
"By who?" Daisy demanded, clearly enraged.
"The Supreme Court of the United States." Matt deadpanned.
"Is this some kind of sick joke?" Mack demanded.
"I'm afraid not," Matt responded in a strict tone that welcomed no argument. "These are very serious charges, and this is a very serious situation, Agent Mackenzie."
"You know us?" Fitz asked in surprise.
"I know all of your names and what your voices sound like," Matt revealed. "Leopold Fitz, Jemma Simmons, Alphonso Mackenzie, Phil Coulson, Melinda May, Daisy Johnson. Glenn Talbot filled me in on that."
"What even are these charges?" May asked, her voice in concern rather than anger.
"Various counts of manslaughter, destruction of property across multiple cities, which cost millions to billions in property damage, mind you," Matt revealed as he continued. "Reckless endangerment of numerous civilians, and criminal negligence. Is that all? Or should I continue?"
"This is absurd!" Simmons exclaimed.
"Is it?" Matt growled as his voice silenced everyone. "Ms. Johnson, when you went rogue from S.H.I.E.L.D., you went on to destroy numerous banks and bridges across several cities. New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and more. All for your own vendetta against the Watchdogs."
"She lost the love of her life, dammit! Show some sympathy!" Mack roared.
"SO DID I!" Matt roared back as he silenced everyone. "But I don't use my personal pain or tragedies to justify putting innocent people in harms' way. Ms. Johnson, your destruction of all these banks and bridges have endangered countless innocent lives and cost just as much. All because of your negligence and ignorance. Your recklessness endangered and cost all of those innocent lives. Not to mention that the barely repairable damage you caused has cost hundreds of millions of dollars. Damages that have left deadly social, tragic, and economical scars on numerous cities. Do you understand that?"
"I…I…" Daisy was at a loss for words as she looked down at the file.
"You misused your powers, your recklessness, ignorance, and negligence have cost you and the others around you." Matt argued. "You brought this on yourself, you won't be getting sympathy. Not from the courts, not from me, and most certainly not from the public. And the rest of you…" Matt pointed to the rest of the agents. "None of you even considered talking to her, addressing, or pointing out her faults and trying to talk some sense into her, did you?"
The silence was all the answer Matt needed.
"Now, look," Matt said. "I don't know about the rest of you, but the courts and I? We live in the real world. Every action has its consequences. We'll be hearing from you in court. Good day to you all. Director, if you'll show me out, please."
Mace nodded as he and Matt walked away, leaving a broken Daisy and the rest of the shocked agents in silence as they pondered on their next move.
A/N: No, I won't be making a sequel or a full story on this. I don't have it in me to do that.
The charges were all I could think of with a hint of google searches. If any law expert of any kind wants to chip in the comments to correct me or throw a few valid-reasoned arguments for charges or something, you are more than welcome to do so.
Honestly, Daisy going rogue was completely stupid and uncalled for. Let's look past the fact that she just decided to abandon her friends and family. The show itself stated that Daisy had destroyed numerous banks and bridges to go after the Watchdogs. Banks and bridges. These are some of the most populated places in urban/metropolitan areas, people. There are going to be civilian casualties, which include severe harm and even death.
I don't know about the rest of you but you are not having me believe that there were zero civilian casualties of any kind when she destroyed "banks and bridges". Even if that was the case (which is strongly unlikely, mind you), Daisy is still a bit of an asshole for causing that much destruction. It amounts to hundreds of millions of dollars of property damage, which is going to have some serious impact. I enjoyed Daisy in seasons 1-3 of AOS but man, season four ruined her for me. S1-S3 Daisy would never have done what S4 Daisy did.
Also, all of this is ignoring how she treated Jemma, holding her at gunpoint and practically forcing her to work with her. You do NOT treat Jemma Simmons like that. She's an amazing, kind, caring, and great person. Even a great friend to Daisy and Daisy treats her like a tool. Seriously, woman, what the hell? See a therapist for God sakes.
Now I realize I sound like an obsessed maniac, emphasizing on these few points. But judging by the show and its fanbase, it's pretty obvious that all of this went unnoticed…somehow. And it shouldn't have, considering that it's a character assassination on Daisy's end. And her friends aren't much better for not calling her out and trying to reason her on it. Anyway, I'm done now. Have a great rest of your day and Godspeed to you all!
