The Start of a New Mission

Inside the castle, the king of Hyrule and his subjects carefully brought the stone-turned princess to the throne room. Yugi and his friends helped out.

"Who was that guy?" Joey asked. "And why would he do this?"

Max knew who he was. "His name is Vaati. And based on the extent of the spell he placed on Zelda, he's clearly a powerful and dangerous mage." She also knew it was because of the Cobalt Star shard in his possession, but she didn't want to reveal that.

Kaiba doubted that Vaati was powerful. "The moment he saw us, he fled like a coward."

"You misunderstand," said Max. "Vaati didn't retreat out of cowardice. He wasn't looking for a fight. He only came because he was looking for something that apparently wasn't here."

That made sense to Yugi. "So that's why he broke the seal and released all of those monsters."

"How do you know exactly that Vaati is looking for something?" Joey asked Max.

She narrowed her eyes at him. "I have the power to look inside people's minds and see their ideals, remember?"

Apparently, he had forgotten about that. "Okay, but what is it that Vaati is looking for?"

"A powerful force," she answered vaguely. "One that might increase his power."

None of the heroes liked the sound of that. But they also figured that they shouldn't be too surprised at that. After all, that's the way most villains are; looking for ways to increase their power.

At the moment, the royals were trying to figure out how to break the spell on Princess Zelda. The Picori Blade – the sword that had been protecting the seal – had the power to remove a mage's curse. Unfortunately, the sword had been broken in half when Vaati used his magic. Fortunately, there was a way to restore the sword. However, this required help from the Picori. Sending the royal guard to seek out the Picori would do no good because the Picori could only be seen my children. As such, Link volunteered to go and look for the Picori.

Yugi offered to help. "Let us come along. We can help."

"You?" the king asked. "How so? You're not exactly children. As such, it would be difficult for young adults to find the Picori, let alone see them."

But Link asked for the king to let his new friends come along. "Your majesty, I really think Yugi and the others can help. They're descendants of the Children of Millennia."

The royals started gasping and muttering amongst themselves. This certainly changed things. The king figured that for Millennia's warriors to be here, then it could only mean that his kingdom was being threatened by the Dark Lord's evil forces. For that matter, he agreed to let Yugi and the others accompany Link.

"Very well," he said approvingly. "Take the Picori Blade to the Minish Woods. That is where the Picori live. Find them and ask them how to restore the sword."

"Yes, your majesty," Link said, taking the broken blade. To help him on the way, the master swordsmith gave his grandson a sword he had finished forging. With it along with the shield Princess Zelda gave to him, Link could protect himself from dangerous enemies. The heroes were also given a map to navigate around the land of Hyrule. Now that everyone was ready, it was time to head out to the Minish Woods and seek out the Picori.
