Chapter 17

(The engagement ring wasn't meant to be seen by anyone.)

(Why were you looking in my drawer to begin with?) Lucas asked.

(That isn't important. Now that I know you're thinking and planning our engagement I can focus on looking into wedding planning.) Peyton proclaimed.

Lucas swallowed hard. (I love you Peyton. And I thought you would be my last but things between us have been off for awhile now.)

(I think we've outgrown each other. Fallen out of love. At least I have.) Lucas announced.

The expression on Peyton's face softened.

(I'm late to !set with a n artist. I'm going to head over to red Bedroom.) Peyton replied.

(We're going to be friends. See each other all the time. I'm sorry this hurts you Peyton.) Lucas said.

(I'll pick up the boys from school. It's about time I share more of the parenting responsibility.) Peyton replied. As she got up from the table and headed towards the comet.

...

Lucas was taken aback by Peyton 's lack of a reaction but maybe that was good. She needed to let his news sink in.

He went back to work and for the most part it was a normal routine filled day.

Until he got a call from Sawyer.

Announcing his mom hadn't picked him or Parker up.

Lucas left work then and picked up his sons dropping them off at the cafe.

He drove home then. And found a note addressed to him.

I'm sorry I can't go back to being alone. Peyton wrote down.

(I'm in love with with him.) Brooke announced to Clay.

Knowing that she couldn't live a lie.
