As Sonic sprinted through the treacherous Jungle Labyrinth, carrying Rotor and T-Pup, he paid little attention to the warning signs scattered along the path. His mind was consumed with thoughts of the needle-nosed jerk who kidnapped Tails. Was it only because of the Chaos Emerald he managed to steal, or did there become a more sinister plan at play? Perhaps Dr. Robotnik intended to use Tails as a bargaining chip, forcing Sonic to surrender the remaining Chaos Emeralds.

Sonic couldn't help but empathize with his new foxy friend, imagining the loneliness and bullying he must have endured. Driven by his own experiences, Sonic was determined to track down those responsible and make them pay for their actions.

What could even make them think of doing that? He was just a kid! But that wasn't what Sonic was out to deal with now. Sure, Sonic wanted them to get what was coming to them. But saving Tails means everything to him right now.

As the sky gradually darkened, they pushed further into uncharted territory, eventually reaching an underground passage nestled within the mountain range of South Island. A gust of wind swept through the entrance, revealing a dank and mineral-laden cave that sent a shiver down Sonic's spine.

He recognized that familiar scent.

It was the unmistakable odor of an underwater cave.

Sonic wasn't gifted in swimming. In fact, he often joked that even a rock would fare better in the water than he did. He had kept this fact a secret for as long as possible, as it clashed with his image of being an all-around speedster.

"Err, are you sure we're at the right place?" Sonic asked, his voice filled with nervous apprehension.

"Yep," Rotor affirmed, pointing toward a conspicuous sign that bore the warning, 'DANGER! DO NOT ENTER!' The arrow on the sign directed them toward a dark hole. "According to our little friend's built-in detector, this is the spot. We found an alternative route that led us straight here. We got to find Sally and Bunnie, assuming they haven't ventured too far."

Sonic couldn't shake off his uneasiness about the location. But he understood that the well-being of his newfound friends took precedence over his fear of water. With a gulp, the blue hedgehog braced himself and followed Rotor into the entrance. He surveyed his surroundings, accompanied by T-Pup, who observed Sonic's peculiar behavior.

"Hello! Sally! Bunnie! Can you hear me?" Rotor called out, his voice reverberating through the cavernous space. The only response they received was the serene sound of flowing water and the occasional droplets cascading from the imposingly high ceiling.

The ancient passageway, its tan stone walls adorned with a lush tapestry of ivy and moss, exuded an air of enchantment. Soft, ethereal light emanated from glowing crystals strategically placed along the length of the dark tunnel, casting dancing shadows upon the worn surfaces.

These remarkable ruins, remnants of the once-mighty civilization that had reigned over Mobius countless centuries ago, now stood as a testament to the passage of time, succumbing to the relentless forces of decay and partially submerged beneath the churning floodwaters.

For many wanderers who stumbled upon this mesmerizing sight, the sheer beauty and historical scene took their breath away. Yet, as Sonic ventured further into the depths of this ancient labyrinth, an unsettled sensation began to wash over him.

The overpowering scent of dampness mingled with the musty aroma of aged stone, assailed his nostrils, causing a slight dizziness to creep into his head. Despite this, Sonic pressed on, his trusty sneakers navigating the uneven terrain with caution and precision.

Though mostly even and reliable, the stone blocks beneath his feet occasionally revealed hazards. Rigid sections jutted out unexpectedly, threatening to trip the unwary traveler. Deep pits filled with menacing spikes and shallow pools of water lay scattered throughout the tunnel, demanding Sonic's unwavering attention and agile footwork to go through unscathed.

Water cascaded from the carved stone gargoyle heads lining the walls, their downpour eroding chunks of the already weathered terrain, adding to the nature of the surroundings. Ancient symbols and mysterious hieroglyphs adorned the worn stones, whispering tales of forgotten knowledge and long-lost secrets.

Peculiar faces, frozen in stone, stared out with enigmatic expressions. Vines dangled from above, creating an eerie canopy that swayed gently with every subtle breath of wind. Weathered poles stood as silent witnesses to the passage of time, their significance lost in the annals of history, rising from the ground like past sentinels.

Regarding Sonic's aquaphobia, floods were not good for the speedy hero. As Sonic and Rotor continued their journey, traversing various paths, Sonic focused on maintaining his composure despite the uneasy situation. With each step, Sonic concentrated on controlling his breathing and grounding himself.

"Well, here we are," Sonic muttered, his voice filled with a hint of unease. "I don't see anything interesting other than water... rocks... more water... creepy gargoyles... And did I mention water? Why does it always have to involve water?"

Rotor directed Sonic's attention toward the submerged area. "Come on! We'll dive to the next part of the location-!"

"Dive?!" Sonic's eyes widened as he gripped onto Rotor's shoulders. "You mean into the water?"

"Well, unless you're planning to dive into solid rock, I don't see any other option," Rotor responded, slightly puzzled by Sonic's sudden change in demeanor. "Are you alright, Sonic? You seem a bit on edge."

Sonic squirmed uncomfortably, caught off guard by the question. "I'm fine, Rote. Nothing's wrong or freaking me out. It's just... I can't afford to lose focus like this because... I can't swim. Like, at all! How am I supposed to find our friends when I can't even handle a bit of water?"

"Don't worry, Sonic," Rotor reassured him with a smile, pointing his thumb at himself. "I'm a walrus, and water is my element. I can hold my breath for over an hour underwater."

"Well, that's a relief," Sonic raised an eyebrow and sighed. "But what about me?"

"Oh, um..." Rotor blinked, momentarily unsure of how to address Sonic's concern.

Sonic's hand instinctively scratched his muzzle as he took another step forward. But his balance betrayed him, causing him to trip and plummet into one of the numerous water slides. He was swiftly engulfed by the rushing water, sinking toward the bottom.

"SONIC!" Rotor gasped, panic coursing through his veins. Without hesitation, he leaped into the water, propelling himself downward with T-Pup closely following.

"Oh no!" Sonic thought, holding his breath in a frantic state. "No, no, no! Not water! I can't swim! Just calm down, Sonic. Stay calm, and we can get out here."

Sonic felt the air trapped within his puffed-out cheeks, his attempts at buoyancy proving futile as he flailed his arms in a desperate bid to ascend. However, his efforts only led him to the ground with a subdued thud. Looking up, he realized that the water's surface remained out of his reach.

Sonic let out a frustrated grunt and crossed his arms, assessing the underwater environment around him. Surprisingly, the water was clear enough for him to see a significant distance. He released the breath from his inflated cheeks, creating a trail of bubbles, and propelled himself forward, landing on his feet and gliding along the bottom of the pool.

"Doing good so far," he thought to himself, barely able to move.

All of this was SLOW going.

WAY too slow for Sonic the Hedgehog.

Even curling up didn't help him move any faster. He decided to move further, dashing through some shark-based Badniks called Jaws on the way.

"I wonder how big this maze is. Who built it and why here? Hmm, now that I think about it, I should avoid overstraining my lungs too much. I do not know how long we might be trapped, and the last thing I want is to suffer overflown lungs." Sonic thought as he began to search for any air pockets while releasing tiny bubbles through her nostrils every twenty or so seconds.

As Sonic continued his ventures within the deep aquatic atmosphere, he swam across the large stepping stones and saw Rotor and T-Pup following him. Rotor pretty much got the hang of it due to being a walrus, whereas T-Pup is waterproof, capable of swimming and diving underwater.

"It's not so bad," Sonic kept thinking to himself. "It's not so bad. It's not so bad-!"

The speedy hero looked back to see another Jaws, stopping mid-swim inadvertently. Bubbles then blurted out of Sonic reputedly before dodging the shark-based Badnik's enhanced bite.

"IT'S BAD! IT'S SO BAD!" He screamed in his thoughts.

Struggling against the constricting water, Sonic fought to maintain his mobility. Rotor, however, swiftly moved through the water and delivered an elbow drop to defeat the Jaws. Mutual respect flashed between Sonic and Rotor, echoed by a joyful yip from T-Pup. Yet, in an instant, the harsh reality hit Sonic like a ton of bricks. His air supply was running out. He clenched his throat, desperate for even the slightest breath of air.

"Oh no," Sonic thought, searching all around in a desperate manner but saw nothing prevailing now. "I'm running out of air! Uncle Chuck always told me that old ruins like these are full of air pockets. But where the heck are they?"

Sonic looked around to see an Orbinaut, a sea urchin-like Badnik surrounded by spike balls. "I see Eggman's getting smart with these Badnik designs."

The Orbinaut unleashed a barrage of spike balls toward the trio. They quickly swam toward a crack in the floor, where a bubble emerged. Recognizing it as an air pocket, Sonic gulped it down, replenishing his much-needed oxygen and momentarily relieving the pressure in his head. They continued to rise from the forgotten tombs below, serving as a valuable guide toward areas where Sonic could find a breath of air.

"Good...! I have a bit more air!" Sonic said in his thoughts before smirking. "Now then…"

Once the spike balls had disappeared, Sonic rolled into a ball and smashed through the Orbinaut. With the assistance of Rotor and T-Pup, they propelled Sonic forward, gaining momentum. They soared above a circling spiked mace, hovering just inches above the ground. Venturing deeper into the intricate labyrinth, they defeated yet another Jaws before activating a button, causing a decorated wall to open before them.

They executed their movements with precision and fluidity, ensuring they didn't rush to avoid Sonic's potential drowning. Another air bubble emerged from the ground, prompting Sonic to quickly take a gasping breath, replenishing his lungs.

Possessing a larger lung capacity, Rotor forged ahead, monitoring the seconds until he needed more air. The trio navigated through the aqueous labyrinth, maneuvering through sections where they had to shift the water to create passages narrow enough to squeeze through.

Upon leaping over jutting stone ledges, they were suddenly engulfed by an intensified current, drawing them toward an unknown destination. Helpless against the force, they were swept along until eventually expelled onto dry land. Both mobians gasped and coughed, struggling to catch their breath. On the other hand, T-Pup instinctively shook off the water as any regular dog would do.

"Ugh, water... I can't stand it!" Sonic exclaimed, frustrated by his drenched state. "It felt even more unpleasant than usual. Did Eggman contaminate it or something? I wouldn't put it past him. Ugh..." Sonic remained seated, soaked, until he vigorously shook himself, transforming his quills into a fluffy afro-like appearance. Afterward, he slicked his fur back into his preferred spiky hairstyle.

"Any ideas on where to go next, Rotor?" Sonic inquired, carefully inspecting himself for any signs of injury. Fortunately, he found no bruises, cuts, or wounds.

"Not really, Sonic. Though this would've looked like a nice place if not for the floods. Look at these crystals. Do you think they grew this way, or were they placed here?" Rotor shook his head, examining the fan-shaped crystal structures for any anomalies but found little to note.

The chamber they found themselves in was impressive. Torches adorned the walls with enigmatic images, and the shimmering crystal formations provided sufficient illumination.

"Yeah," Sonic agreed with a nod. "I'd definitely visit more often if it weren't for all the flooding. That move you pulled earlier against the Badnik was incredible. Where did you learn those skills?"

Rotor blushed as he replied. "Oh, well, I'm not sure. It just comes naturally to me when my friends need my help."

"Well, it certainly proved useful!" Sonic grinned, appreciating Rotor's abilities sincerely.

Sonic surveyed his surroundings, scanning the area with curiosity. Suddenly, a projectile shot out from the wall behind him. Reacting swiftly, the agile hero dodged just in time, narrowly avoiding a rusty spear that thrust out, narrowly missing his head.

Observing the retracting spear, Sonic remarked, "Looks like this eerie place is not only flooded but also filled with booby traps everywhere." He glanced back at a surprised Rotor and T-Pup.

"Well, things couldn't possibly worsen," Rotor muttered cautiously. However, the ground rumbled, and multiple iron drills emerged from underneath.

"Oh, why did I have to say that?" Rotor sighed in frustration as three Burro-Bots emerged explosively from the ground.

"Priority One Hedgehog," They recited.

"I'll handle these, Rote," Sonic confidently declared as he swiftly evaded the charging Badniks.

Sonic executed a backflip, using the momentum to bounce off one mole-based Badnik's head, then delivered a powerful hammer kick that split another Badnik in half. He finished off the third Badnik by spinning through it effortlessly. The mole-based Badniks were reduced to scrap metal, and the trapped critters were finally free.

"Well, that wasn't much of a challenge," Sonic remarked with a tinge of disappointment as they continued their journey, attempting to navigate the wet path, much to Sonic's dismay. "These dumb bots should at least give me a decent fight."

"That's the part you won't enjoy," Rotor interjected, causing Sonic to shiver as he realized what the walrus had in store. "And we've only just begun."

Sonic glanced ahead, observing the path now riddled with pools of water and fewer dry routes. "Oh no...!" he exclaimed, realizing the daunting challenge.

Following the coordinates on Nicole's screen, Sally pressed forward with determination, maintaining a brisk pace toward the next Chaos Emerald. Bunnie displayed her adept skills by using her extendable hook to free a trapped critter from the clutches of a Burro-Bot. They remained alert, skillfully avoiding projectiles launched by menacing gargoyle statues that loomed nearby. Traversing the hazardous terrain, the girls persevered until they came across a series of interconnected brown platforms linked by chains and rotating wheels that propelled them in one direction. This mechanism allowed them to leap from one platform to another.

"Phew, we need to drain this place, or else I'm goin' to have to get my parts all dunked. Honestly! Whoever made this place sunk is goin' get it!" Bunnie pouted, her eyes turning over to Sally. "See anything, Sally-Girl?"

"Well, I'm finding out where-! Huh?" Sally picks up a piece of rock, studying it. "Hey... Some of this looks like a piece of the footpath, but what happened?"

"It looks like the footpath had broken off or washed away." Bunnie cocked her hips, realizing who was behind this problem. "Or blown up on purpose?"

That idea, anyhow, made Sally's eyes narrow intently. Her eyes rolled before she spotted something unusual. "Bunnie, look! A switch!"

Turning her attention onto a hidden button, the cyborg rabbit steps over to investigate. "I wonder what it does."

"Only one way to find out," Sally chimed in, pressing the switch with her right foot.

A sudden tremor reverberated in the vicinity, signaling the revelation of a concealed passage. Startled, the girls directed their attention toward the newly opened entrance and swiftly leaped inside just as it sealed shut behind them.

Pressing on, they ventured forward, eventually emerging into a spacious chamber where Sally couldn't shake the feeling that someone awaited their arrival. But before they could react, a barrage of laser beams soared overhead, narrowly missing the pair.

The final shot struck forcefully, hurling Sally and Bunnie to the ground and causing three of their Chaos Emeralds to scatter. Urgently, Sally scrambled to retrieve them, but to her dismay, the mechanical arms of the Egg-O-Matic swiftly snatched them up, delivering the prized gems into the clutches of Dr. Robotnik.

"Ah, princess," He greeted casually. "Your timing is inconvenient as always."

"YOU!" Bunnie immediately began running at Dr. Robotnik.

But the obese doctor, however, motions back and away from the duo. Bunnie skidded to a stop, glaring up to see the grinning human floating toward her and Sally.

"Temper, temper," With a slight curve of naughtiness tainting his smile, Dr. Robotnik handled all three of the duo's stolen Chaos Emeralds. "I can't tell if you ladies are persistent or just too foolish to give yourselves up now."

"Try determined, doctor," Sally drew in an indignant breath. "To bring you down! You're the one behind the water floods in this place!"

"Oh-ho-ho! You catch on quickly, don't you, princess?" Dr. Robotnik laughs, leaning in, and continues. "Much of these ancient ruins have stayed quiet for too long, so I decided to spark things up with a few dynamites here and there. Too bad that blue rodent and your fat walrus aren't here to see it happen while they're on the other side of this blasted maze."

"Wait," Sally looked concerned by the sudden revelation. "They're both here?!"

"Well, that's good news, right?" Bunnie shrugs, having raised her eyebrow while proceeding. "Sugar-Hog must've gotten Rotor and another one of those Chaos Emeralds."

"Oh, please!" Dr. Robotnik noted, waving off such nonsense. "That other Chaos Emerald is already mine, thanks to a certain backstabbing brat I still have with me in Scrap Brain. That makes it four Emeralds for me all the rest of the time and zero for a loser like you, princess."

"You'll never get away with this, Robotnik!" Sally begins to aim with her bow and arrow, only causing the mad scientist to hold both hands up in mock defeat.

"Oh, sweet child," Dr. Robotnik told her. His sinister smile made Sally return a scowl in kind before watching him do something else. "Why don't you put away such silly playthings and try using your legs for this one!"

While Sally tried to ask what he meant by that, Dr. Robotnik eventually snapped his fingers as it echoed across the walls. The girls end up on a path with a giant spherical rock which they have to outrun.

"What is that?" Sally asks in a frightened tone.

"It's a-a-a, giant rock! Run, Sally-Girl! Run!" Bunnie shouts hurriedly.

Soon, Dr. Robotnik gunned the Egg-O-Matic's engines and began taking off down the tunnels, with Sally and Bunnie giving chase while running away from the rock. Dr. Robotnik led the duo on a high-speed chase through the ruins. Eventually, they came into a different area. A high-up terrace over a partially flooded chamber with a circle of eight pillars. The duo went past the rock as it fell into the watery platform.

"It's over, Robotnik! There's nowhere left for you to run!" Sally says in anger.

Dr. Robotnik could only smirk. "Who said anything about running, princess?"

The mad scientist pulls out his trusty ray gun from the side of the hovercraft's cockpit, aiming to open fire, only for Bunnie to dodge the shot with ease.

With a dismissive smile on her lips, the cyborg rabbit peered back at Dr. Robotnik. "Pfft, you missed, dunderhead!"

"Oh-ho-ho, yeah?" Dr. Robotnik kept his sneer intact.

Sally and Bunnie exchanged confused glances as a crumbling sound reached their ears. Their gaze shifted downward, revealing the ground beneath them, fracturing and crumbling due to the burn mark left by Dr. Robotnik's ray gun. The expressions on their faces swiftly transformed from confusion to sheer terror as they gasped in unison. The ground gave way beneath them, sending them plummeting into the lower chamber.

Fortunately, Bunnie's robotic arm latched onto one of the pillars, preventing them from falling into the water below. Simultaneously, she caught Sally with her other arm, securing their safety. As they regained their composure and stood on the pillar, the Egg-O-Matic glided into view, carrying Dr. Robotnik, who wore a wicked, toothy grin on his face.

"I told you so about going against my proposition, didn't I, princess?" He said, with Sally scowling at the remark. "I gave you mobians the opportunity to end your dispute with me and join the cause. But you just had to play pretend and keep being the annoying germ that you all are."

"Someone had to step up after everything you've done to our world," Sally kept her cold, calculating glare. "But you won't be winning anymore."

Dr. Robotnik's laughter echoed, his visage contorting into derision as he gazed down at the two girls. "HA! Why, you ask?" he sneered, his demeanor growing more severe by the moment. "Is it because you've inexplicably placed your faith in a meddling hedgehog you barely know? Or perhaps it's because you're witnessing your chances dwindle, with a mere ten percent of the cards in your possession while I still hold a formidable ninety percent? No doubt Meta-Morphia attempted to implant that notion into your dense skull."

"Liar!" Bunnie angrily shouted. "Sugar-Hog may be a little stubborn as a mule, but he means well!"

"That's right! Sonic has nothing to do with traitorous scum like you! He told me you gave us all up when he visited my home!" Sally shouted hesitantly, trying to deny anything from Dr. Robotnik's mouth except this next one.

"Not even his biggest mistake for becoming best friends with traitorous scum like me?"

Sally froze instantly at this, her face blank with emotion as the information sent more shivers of uneasiness throughout her body. Even Bunnie's eyes widened at the sudden announcement that it looked and felt wrong upon the visage of the round tyrant's features. As Sally kept looking over the mad scientist, her mouth cracked a bit before finally breaking out of her trance.

"N-No," Sally spoke suddenly, still visibly distraught-looking. "What are you talking about right now? Sonic wasn't even THERE! That never happened! You were a friend and ally to my kingdom! Your name was Dr. Kintobor-!"

"THAT MAN!" Dr. Robotnik shuts up the chipmunk girl, glaring daggers so much as he can with glasses anyway. "He doesn't breathe in this world anymore, princess. The only thing that's left of his empty shell is me: Dr. Ivo Robotnik! As of now, this here is where your wasteful years of defying my empire end. Because another of my creations down here wants to spend some time grabbing a bite with you ladies; only this time, you're the little snack."

Bunnie looked down into the pool with a tremble, spotting two short eyestalks with big eyes cut through the water before a giant Jaws Super Badnik lunged out with a mighty roar.

"Whoa!" Bunnie let out, watching the giant Jaws move around the pillars. "Antoine must be in there, Sally-Girl."

"I'd like to stay and gossip about your so-called hero, but I have myself another Chaos Emerald here to search for right now!" Dr. Robotnik began to depart, laughing maniacally. "Ta-ta, princess! Hahahaha!"

As hours dragged on, Tails was on the verge of physical collapse from the relentless labor imposed upon him. In addition to navigating traps and obstacles in the water-filled caverns beneath the Scrap Brain Factory, Tails' work involved assembling engine pistons Dr. Robotnik intended to use for destructive purposes.

Tails made one attempt to free himself from the shock collar's combination lock. But each time the fox boy touched the material around his neck, he received painful electric shocks. He needed to devise a new plan. Rest breaks were a cruel joke for Tails, as he was only granted brief five-second pauses before being zapped by either a Swat-Bot or Snively, causing him to collapse.

Though Tails managed to pick himself up, Snively continuously threatened to zap him again if he resisted Dr. Robotnik's commands. Unwanted electricity surged through Tails' body, inflicting intense pain each time he paused. He emitted tiny squeaks of agony, enduring the torment until the shock paused briefly, only to resume.

Tails stumbled upon a terrifying revelation when listening to past commlink discussions between Snively and Dr. Robotnik. The obese tyrant planned to harness the power of the Chaos Emeralds to extract a massive energy crystal from deep within the Scrap Brain Factory's mines, utilizing a crane controlled by four engine pistons. A sky base blimp had been ordered to transport the energy crystal back to Robotropolis for further extraction.

Snively was preoccupied, humming while playing with Dr. Robotnik's chair. However, he brooded over the times his uncle had humiliated the Freedom Fighters. Despite deploying Super Badniks to capture Sally and her team, Sonic continued to wreak havoc on the empire. Exhausted and irritated, Tails had no patience for Snively's petty grievances.

Snively clenched his teeth in frustration as he watched the battle tapes replay on-screen. "That imbecile is only pushing those brats further!" he muttered. "I expected him to better use the Super Badnik Horde to destroy the Freedom Fighters. But no, they keep managing to escape! We should have finished them off with the Robotizer."

"Perhaps it's because, despite being a part of all this, you still act like a lowly servant to a greater scheme-AGH!" Tails grumbled, interrupted as the shock collar was activated, causing his body to convulse with electric shocks until he collapsed.

"SHUT UP!" Snively seethed with frustration, jumping out of the chair and advancing closer with a sneer. "Our brilliance will bring order to these untamed lands! All the greenery will be paved over! Filthy creatures like you will power gleaming robots! The world will not only function like a well-oiled machine. But it will become one!"

"W-Wow," Tails weakly coughed, managing a sardonic smile. "You guys really sound like a bunch of jerks."

"We're not jerks! We're brilliant! Brilliant, I tell you!" Snively's anger flared up, prompting him to shock Tails with the collar. "Bah! You couldn't possibly understand, you freak of nature!"

"Well, if you're so brilliant and think you can do better than your uncle, why don't you take on Sonic yourself?" Tails challenged, his voice wavering.

As Snively's rage simmered, a beeping sound emanated from one of the Scrap Brain Factory's computers, signaling the discovery of another Chaos Emerald in the Starlight Highway, now overrun by criminals and thugs like "Downtown" Ebony O'Hare, an associate of Dr. Robotnik. The dwarf saw an opportunity to accomplish something more significant than his uncle's endeavors since Sonic was preoccupied with the Chaos Emeralds.

"Sonic isn't like you greedy types. He's a true hero," Tails interjected, tilting his head toward the screen, catching Snively's attention.

"Lucky for you, my uncle needs you," Snively sneered as he seized Tails by the neck, with one of his namesakes sneakily coiled around his lab coat. He motioned to a nearby Swat-Bot unit. "You there! Keep a close watch on this pup. And if there are any more distractions, stun him."

Tails shrank back after receiving another electric shock delivered by Snively's device. As the dwarf exited the room, slamming the door shut, the Swat-Bot glanced down only to discover that Tails had vanished. Alarmed, it hastily searched in all directions, eventually landing near one of the large engine pistons.

"Hey, Swat-Bot!" Tails's voice called out. "I'm up here!"

Looking up to locate the source of the young fox's voice, the Swat-Bot prepared to capture Tails. Unaware of its position, the Swat-Bot inadvertently stood under a piston, which Tails activated, causing it to descend and crush the Swat-Bot completely.

Using his twin tails to hover back to the ground, Tails observed the destroyed Swat-Bot in satisfaction. He also revealed a skeleton key with a rounded bow that he had cunningly snatched from Snively's lab coat with one of his tails.

"Thank you, Sloppily," Tails chuckled, holding the key concealed within his tail. "Now, I need to find that Chaos Emerald around here. Maybe I can warn Sonic about Dr. Robotnik's plans before it's too late."

Tails surveyed his surroundings before taking off, his tails spinning like a helicopter, navigating the control center. In one way or another, he knew that Sonic would thwart Dr. Robotnik's scheme with the Chaos Emeralds.

However, unbeknownst to Tails, a robotized figure emerged from the shadows within the area, resembling a hedgehog. Glowing red eyes pierced through the darkness as the robotized figure silently trailed Tails, it's intent unknown.

Sonic's eyes filled with despair as he submerged himself in the water, holding his breath. Rotor and T-Pup joined him, and together they pressed forward. Sonic skillfully maneuvered, leaping up and down, avoiding spikes, and swiftly dispatching Burro-Bots, Jaws, and Orbinauts. However, Sonic knew he couldn't linger in worry for long as he swiftly ducked to evade an attack from another group of submersible shark-based Badniks.

"How BIG is this Labyrinth?!" Sonic shouted in his mind with eyes shuttering.

As Rotor floated underwater, he heard a new sound. The trio spotted a group of Badniks composed of shark, sea urchin, and mole designs working together to attack them. Jaws, Burro-Bots, and Orbinauts closed in on them, resembling a swarm of sharks. Sonic and Rotor quickly brainstormed for an escape plan in this difficult predicament.

"Damn it! If we dodge these attacks, we'll lose all our momentum. Unless…" Sonic pondered until a bright green glow came into his eyes, gaining his attention toward something.

It was a Chaos Emerald, resting within reach. His shocked expression quickly transformed into determination as he knew what needed to be done. Without hesitation, Sonic propelled himself through a nearby wall, enveloping the surrounding Badniks in his whirlwind.

Sonic felt the pressure of time weighing heavily upon him, Rotor, and T-Pup, as they had only seconds to snatch the precious gem. They attempted to swim their way out, but the water surged around them, creating a powerful suction that drew them deeper into the hole. Eventually, they were propelled down a winding path, hurtling toward a cascading waterfall. Just before the descent ended, Sonic caught sight of Sally and Bunnie engaged in a fierce battle against the Super Badnik.

In a swift motion, Sonic seized Rotor by the back of his overalls, with T-Pup held securely, his expression hardening as they launched themselves off the waterfall's ledge. As Bunnie leaped from one pillar to another, extending her robotic fist toward the colossal Jaws, colliding with one of its eyes before rapidly shifting positions, Sally was the first to notice Sonic descending with Rotor and T-Pup in tow.

Gradually, the trio each landed on separate pillars just as the Jaws burst out of the water, its gaping maw snapping hungrily. Time seemed to slow down as the nimble hero darted from one column to the next, evading the Super Badnik's vicious bite that tore into a section of the pillar where Sonic had previously stood.

"Man, that's quite the overbite, wouldn't you say?" Sonic smirked at Sally and Bunnie, who were delighted to see him and Rotor arrive.

"Sugar-Hog! Rotor! You made it!" Bunnie exclaimed, pumping her fist in excitement.

"Absolutely," Rotor replied, a gentle smile gracing his face. T-Pup barked, drawing attention to himself. "Long story short, we found this little guy who can help us put a stop to Robotnik."

"I'm so glad you're both here," Sally said, her smile tinged with unease. "Robotnik caught us off guard and took our spare Chaos Emeralds. He might still be searching for another one, and he's unleashed a Super Badnik on us. Antoine's in there somehow, but we need to be careful."

"Hey, don't worry, Sal," Sonic reassured her, his signature smile never fading. "We'll catch up to him and free your friend from that Butt-Nik doodad in no time."

Renewed with hidden confidence, Sally nodded in agreement as the team embraced hit-and-run tactics in their intense battle against the Super Badnik. They coordinated their attacks, landing blows, shooting arrows whenever an opportunity arose, and expertly evading the creature's lunges. Despite their valiant efforts, the relentless assault was taking its toll as the Super Badnik destroyed more and more pillars, reducing the available space for the team to maneuver.

Each team member found themselves perched on their remaining supports, their options dwindling. T-Pup let out a yip before activating an internal electrical force field, enveloping the colossal Jaws and freezing it in a momentary stasis. The sudden respite allowed the team to catch their breath and strategize for their next move.

"Haha! Well done, little buddy," Sonic exclaimed, giving a thumbs-up to the robot dog beside him. He racked his brain for ideas until he pulled out the green Chaos Emerald. "Let's see if this baby can do the trick."

Concentrating with all his might, Sonic felt the Emerald glowing around him, enveloping him in its powerful aura. Everyone watched in awe as Sonic smirked, revving up like a spinning blue ball of destruction, with the giant Jaws eagerly awaiting its next attack, mouth wide open.

"I hope you've got an appetite!" Sonic declared, darting straight toward the Super Badnik and diving into its gaping maw.

Sonic spun rapidly within the monster's mouth, inflicting damage as he went until he located and seized the captive inside. Sonic tore through the Super Badnik's innards with a burst of speed, emerging triumphantly from its top side.

The gutted Badnik sparked briefly before powering down, sinking into the depths of Jungle Labyrinth to rust and decay. Sonic's feet landed on a nearby pillar, carrying Antoine Depardieu, a male coyote and skilled swordsman who served the royal family of Princess Sally Acornia.

Antoine had brown fur with pale yellow on his front torso, muzzle, and cheek tufts. He had blue eyes, a bushy tail, and neatly combed blond hair. His attire had a white, long-sleeved collared shirt beneath a closed blue jacket with red trims. He wore a belt with a sheath for his sword, white gloves adorned with red cuffs, golden cufflinks, and red military boots.

Currently unconscious for an unknown duration, Antoine's lack of response prompted Sonic's impatience as he patted the brown coyote's cheek rapidly and firmly.

"Antoine! Can you hear me?" Sally asked, concerned.

"Wake up, sleeping beauty!" Sonic deadpanned, not taking it too seriously.

"Ooh..." Antoine coughed in a French accent, slowly regaining consciousness and taking in his surroundings. "My princess? Is that you-?"

Coming face to face with Sonic, the brown coyote nearly shrieked. "WHO ARE YOU?!"

"He's okay," Sonic reassured with a deadpan expression, searching for an escape route. "We need to get out of here before things get really intense."

"Non! Non! Non! Let me go this instant-!"

Pushing himself off Sonic's arms, Antoine nearly stumbled and yelped, quickly clinging back onto Sonic for support. Unfazed by this, Sonic maintained a straight face until he caught sight of an opening above and beyond.

"Sacre Bleu! W-W-Where am I?" Antoine stuttered, his teeth chattering as he shivered. "W-W-What is this nasty, filthy place?"

"Jungle Labyrinth, Antoine," Sally replied, crossing her arms while gripping her bow. "We managed to free you from that Super Badnik."

"My princess!" Antoine exclaimed, taking Sally's hand and kissing it. "I am relieved to see you safe."

"Oh, brother..." Sonic rolled his eyes and rubbed his chin. "Now, how the heck are we going to get-?!"

Suddenly, a rumbling sound echoed throughout Jungle Labyrinth, caused by eruptions that allowed more water to rush into the ruins, further flooding them. Sally and Bunnie gasped, remembering Dr. Robotnik had planted dynamite charges around the ancient ruins.

And now, the mad doctor had set off the explosives at once. The situation escalated rapidly, leaving Sally struggling to devise an escape plan. She considered suggestions from Nicole, but none of them seemed viable. Even Antoine was on the verge of panic, descending into a babbling, trembling mess.

"DAH! Nous sommes piégés!" Antoine stammered, sweating profusely and swallowing every few seconds.

"I've had enough of this place!" Sonic shouted in frustration.

"Us too! Let's get out of here!" Rotor agreed, nodding vigorously.

"But there are no ladders or ropes! We're going to drown! Je suis trop jeune pour mourir par noyade!" Antoine shouted, prompting Sonic to facepalm at the brown coyote's cowardice and clumsiness.

"Enough with the theatrics, Ant," Sonic snapped, grabbing Antoine by the collar. He suddenly had an idea and turned to the cyborg rabbit. "Hey, Bunnie! Use your robotic legs to boost us up to the top! We'll try to jump out and climb to safety before the flood gets worse!"

"What?!" Sally exclaimed. "I-I'm not sure if-!"

"GUYS!" Rotor interjected. "We don't know how long this structure will hold before it collapses on us. Whatever we do, we have to do it quickly!"

"I-I... um..." Sally stumbled over her words before looking at Bunnie. "Are you sure about this, Bunnie? I don't want you to get hurt."

"I don't know, but I'll give it a shot, Sally-Girl," Bunnie replied, her uncertainty evident, but she was willing to do whatever she could for her friends. "Y'all better brace yourselves 'cause I'm about to be as tall as a century-old tree."

Despite Sally's reluctance to engage in any activity that might harm her teammates, they found no other choices. Sally watched in astonishment as Bunnie's legs extended upwards, allowing her to reach a ledge with her robotized arm.

"Grrr! I can't go any further!" Bunnie grunted, sweat and tears streaming down her face. "MOVE IT, NOW!"

As the water level arose, each team member scrambled up Bunnie's robotically-stretched legs, with T-Pup hovering alongside them. Sally carefully positioned herself on Bunnie's cybernetic thighs and became the first to be tossed onto the ledge. She swiftly retrieved a rope from her quiver and threw it down below.

Next, despite his fear, Antoine bravely grabbed the rope and pulled himself onto the ledge, joining Sally. Utilizing the assistance of Bunnie's robotic arm, Sonic bounded up and landed beside Sally and Antoine, ready to help with hoisting the rope.

Now, faced with assisting the larger and heavier Rotor, each team member strained to help the walrus climb back to safety. Finally, Sonic and Sally hurried over to catch Bunnie's hand, with Sonic managing to grasp onto her first. Bunnie's robotic legs had already returned to their original form.

In a reckless turn of events, Bunnie's robotic arm nearly buckled and threatened to break apart, causing both Sally and Sonic's eyes to widen in fear. However, with a final desperate effort, Sonic's arm flung Bunnie back onto the ledge, and she clung to him tightly. They tumbled to the ground together, evoking a collective sigh of relief from the rest of the team.

As Sonic and Bunnie separated, the cyborg rabbit glanced at her slightly damaged robotic arm. "Oh, my stars! I reckon I've had a better landin' or two, but at least I'm in one piece. Is everyone okay?"

"Who cares about us? What about you?" Sally exclaimed, dropping down to Bunnie's eye level, her eyes on the verge of tears. "If you had pushed your cybernetics that far, they could have been torn apart! We could have tried another plan without putting you in danger!"

"Sally, calm down," Sonic extended his hands gently, his eyes meeting the redhead's intense gaze. "I'm making sure everyone stays safe. That includes you, too. Sure, there might've been other options, but the flood was coming in fast. So if someone made the decision for Bunnie to act, then it falls on me."

"Nah, Sugar-Hog," Bunnie shook her head, dismissing Sonic's attempt to shoulder the blame for her injury. "We all did what we thought was necessary to save ourselves, and you did just that."

Nervously, Sonic nodded, acknowledging her perspective. "Thanks, Bunnie."

Bunnie turned her gaze toward Sally, offering a weary smile. "What happened to me down there wasn't your fault, Sally-Girl. We're a team, and we look out for each other. Rotor will take a look at me before we go after Robotnik. Alright?"

Antoine, catching his breath, chimed in. "Oui! Let us not forget our purpose, mes amis. We shall trounce that dreaded Robotnik and save Mobius."

After receiving a comforting hug from her best friend, who quietly nodded, Bunnie managed to regain her footing with the assistance of Antoine and Rotor. Noticing Sally's somber expression regarding Bunnie's recent close call, T-Pup whimpered and leaped into her arms, affectionately licking her cheek. A faint giggle escaped Sally's lips as T-Pup endeavored to uplift her spirits, and he succeeded.

"So, where did you guys find this adorable little thing?" Sally inquired, placing the robotic canine on the ground and allowing him to frolic around her in joyful circles, eliciting a smile.

"Apparently, he came from a friend Sonic made during his time at Spring Yard," Rotor interjected, raising an eyebrow toward the speedster, who noticed all their eyes were on him.

"Well, you see," Sonic cleared his throat, his fist against his mouth. "There was this obstacle course, with a Chaos Emerald as the grand prize...!"

Before Sonic could explain, Antoine's eyes widened upon spotting Dr. Robotnik's menacing Egg-O-Matic.

"R-R-ROBOTNIK!" Antoine exclaimed, causing everyone else to freeze, as they discovered Dr. Robotnik awaiting them all in his hovercraft.

"Grr, this failure is utterly unacceptable!" The deranged scientist bellowed, pointing at the mobians and T-Pup. "But I insist that you hand over the Chaos Emerald, Sonic. I know you still possess it. The readings on my hovercraft indicate that the green Emerald has been scattered to various locations, thanks to your vexing interference."

"You snooze, you lose, Eggman! Where is Miles?!" Sonic demanded, accompanied by a bark from T-Pup.

"Safe, for now," Dr. Robotnik chuckled at the blue hedgehog's scowl, his arms crossed. "But the question is, can all of you survive the impending flood?"

"What?!" Everyone exclaimed in unison, gazing at the previously encountered hole, only to discover that the water was rapidly rising, much to Antoine's dismay.

"Hahaha!" Dr. Robotnik cackled, making his escape toward the exit in the Egg-O-Matic. "You had better be prepared for this, rodents!"

"Get back here, Ro-Butt-Nik!" Sonic shook his fist in anger until Sally touched his shoulder.

"Sonic, wait!" Sally interrupted, ensuring the water level wasn't reaching her best friend. "We need to help Bunnie reach the higher ground! Do you still have that Chaos Emerald from earlier? Try channeling its energy into yourself so you can lift each of us up."

"Right!" Sonic nodded, extending one arm while clutching the green gemstone in his other hand. "Everybody, grab onto each other and hold onto me! We're getting out of this swimming pool!"

With those words, all four team members and T-Pup latched onto each other, forming a chain with their primary speedster. Utilizing the power emanating from the shimmering Chaos Emerald in his hand, Sonic surged forward, zooming past the stones and walls.

Everyone tightly shut their eyes and gritted their teeth as Sonic propelled them higher and higher through the ancient ruins. Dr. Robotnik pressed a button in his cockpit, deploying a glass shield to cover the open section of the Egg-O-Matic. The mad scientist continued piloting the machine toward a large skylight in the ceiling behind him.

Sonic's group swiftly followed suit, determined not to be submerged beneath, leaping from platform to platform. It was an arduous climb, with stone gargoyles launching projectiles at the team and spears springing up to impale anyone, all while the flood surged closer at an alarming pace.

The Freedom Fighters would drown if submerged for too long, with no damaged tiles offering respite in the form of air bubbles. Even Dr. Robotnik was not immune, as his Egg-O-Matic provided only a limited air supply. The protective dome served solely to keep out water and safeguard his instruments if he needed to stay underwater.

Sonic raced with determination, pursuing Dr. Robotnik to halt his escape and rescue his friends. Despite the relentless flood tailing them and the mad scientist forging ahead, the group finally emerged, propelled by the lightning-fast hedgehog, bursting through the exit.

On the other hand, Dr. Robotnik blasted out of the ruins toward the settlement of Starlight Highway. The group emerged from a hole, shaking off the water from their bodies. Unfortunately, Eggman continued soaring upward, utilizing the cover of clouds to conceal his location, rendering it impossible for the group to give chase.

"Oh, great. NOW, where did Eggman run off to?" Sonic inquired, scanning the area and spotting a signpost that read, 'Welcome to Starlight Highway!' in bold letters. "Still under construction, huh? Well, I guess we better start searching for Butt-Nik there."

"Hoo-Wee, I feel like I've been through the wringer, so to speak." Bunnie shook off the excess water and touched her head, only to realize her robotic arm was coming loose. "Oh, dang. I'm falling apart."

"Allow me, mademoiselle," Antoine offered, extending his hand to assist the cyborg rabbit.

"Thanks, Sugar," Bunnie said, taking the swordsman's hand, then turning to Rotor. "Do you mind?"

"No worries, Bunnie," the walrus replied with a smile, producing one of his trusty tools. "It'll only take a few minutes to reattach your arm."

As Bunnie nodded, a certain princess focused on dusting herself off until her gaze settled on Sonic. Sally was lost in her thoughts, questioning his intentions for keeping things from her. She observed Sonic as he jumped to press a button on a nearby containment unit, causing the small critters within to either scatter or express gratitude.

Years ago, Sally would have been unable to display emotions, not even a smile. The day her father was lost marked the day she became emotionally numb. Nothing had been able to bring Sally back to life in a joyful manner until she encountered Sonic.

Returning to the present situation, Sally didn't know whether to trust Dr. Robotnik's words regarding how much Sonic had concealed from her. However, upon learning that Sonic had once been best friends with the human responsible for her kingdom's downfall, it was enough to prompt a conversation between her and Sonic. Sally quietly approached Sonic and tapped him on the shoulder.

"Huh, Sal?" Sonic turned, facing Sally's inscrutable expression.

"Sonic, we need to talk. Now."
