The rain was relentless. It had been pouring from the time Ayumu had sat down to do her homework until she had fallen asleep to the rhythmic sound of it slapping against the roof over her house. She'd been sleeping soundly until the noise of the rain was interrupted by the sound of tapping against her window. Two AM shined brightly on the clock beside her.

Ayumu flicked on her bedside lamp and opened the window. Some of the rain wet her window sill as she looked out below. She caught sight of Shinso standing below just in view of the porch light. He was looking up at her window and waved up, dropping whatever it was he had been throwing at her window.

"Hitoshi, what are you doing?" She called down to him.

Shinso shuffled for a second, "Can we save the questions for when you get me out of the rain?"

Ayumu shut her window tightly and rushed down the stairs, taking two at a time. She unlocked the door quickly and threw it open before pulling Shinso into the house by his sleeve.

"You're soaked."

"Yeah, rain will do that to you." Shinso agreed, taking off his wet shoes.

They headed up to her room quietly, careful not to wake her mother sleeping down the hall. Shinso went into her room and she tiptoed down the hall into the bathroom and grabbed two towels. When she reentered her room she shut the door quietly and threw the towels to Shinso. He caught one with ease and let the other one fall in a heap on the floor. He started drying off his hair with the caught one. Ayumu went into her closet and pulled out the sweatshirt Shinso had left in her room a few weeks before. She dropped it on the bed before going over to her dresser. She hesitated for a moment before opening the bottom drawer. Inside were a few articles of men's clothes. She grabbed an old worn out pair of sweats and a stained T-shirt before depositing them onto the bed beside the sweatshirt.

"Change into those before you catch a cold. They were my dad's. You two weren't exactly the same size, but at least they're dry."

Shinso pulled off his wet sweatshirt and laid it over the back of her desk chair. Ayumu turned around to give him some privacy. Staring at the wall, she finally had to ask.

"So what happened?"

There was a moment of silence, "I think you know."

Ayumu bounced on the balls of her feet anxiously and looked down, "Was it bad?"

"Well," Shinso sighed, "from the noises coming from the kitchen we don't own any plates anymore." The way he said it he could have been talking about the weather.

Ayumu closed her eyes and shook her head. She wanted to say something to make the situation better, something that could change what he had to go through. Even just something comforting, but nothing came to mind. What could you say in that situation? 'I'm sorry' felt over-used and empty. She turned around as Shinso laid the rest of his wet clothes over her desk to let them dry. Her dad's sweats were big on him. The pant legs bunched up at the ankles and the T-shirt hem stuck out from under his sweatshirt. His hair was still damp, but at least he had gotten it to stop dripping.

She sat on her bed and looked up at him, "I'll go with you in the morning to go get your uniform. We'll just wake up really early."

Shinso shook his head and held up his backpack by the strap, "I have it here. You know I'm always prepared."

He sat down next to her on the bed, "I know. I just hate that you have to be."

"Should we wake up your mom and let her know I'm here?"

Ayumu shook her head, "She won't care. It's just you."

She kneeled down beside the bed and grabbed onto the handles before revealing another bed on the ground. A pink comforter adorned the bed and Ayumu grabbed one of her pillows and dropped it onto the bed before climbing over it and into her own bed. She pushed herself back onto the bed and stuffed her feet under the blankets. Shinso watched as she got comfortable and then sat down on the pullout bed below her. "You have to turn off the light since you're closer."

Shinso rolled his eyes, but flicked off the light before pulling himself under the sheets.

Ayumu listened to the rustling on the bed below her as he attempted to get comfortable. Ayumu settled herself back down and leaned over the edge of her bed to look down at Shinso. She could barely make out his silhouette in the dim light.

"Hey, Hitoshi?" He hummed in response. "I'm glad you came here tonight."

"I'm just glad I was able to wake you up. If you hadn't gotten up, I probably would have just sat on your porch until morning."

"That's stupid, you could have called."

Shinso pulled the pillow out from underneath his head and hit Ayumu with it causing her to yelp in surprise, "Go to sleep, Ayumu."

The sound of her alarm broke her out of her sleep. The rain had finally stopped outside and the sun was pouring in through the window. Ayumu reached over and shut it off before shutting her eyes again. The door to her room opened and then shut again.

"You're still not up? Your mom made breakfast."

Ayumu pried her eyes open to see Shinso leaning against her door. She closed them again. "I really don't want to go to school today."

Shinso rolled his eyes, "Too bad. Your friend is going to be waiting for you, isn't he?"

Ayumu groaned and sat up, "Yeah, that's after school though."

"Get up. I'm going to wait for you downstairs."

Ayumu pushed herself out of bed and got ready slowly. When she finally made her way downstairs, Shinso threw her an apple. She caught it and looked up at him confused, "I thought my mom made breakfast?"

"She did. For me. But you took too long, so you get an apple. Come on, we're going to be late."

Ayumu took a bite out of the apple and tried to get the apple skin out of her teeth with her tongue, "You could have cut the apple up for me."

"You could have cut it yourself if you had been ready on time."

Ayumu shoved him and raced out the door, Shinso followed behind, shouting good-bye to Ayumu's mom before shutting the door tightly behind him. Ayumu laced her arm through Shinso's and rested her head against his shoulder. Her eyes closed and she let him lead her along for a few moments before she reopened them.

"About last night-"

'I don't want to talk about it.' Shinso cut her off coldly.

Ayumu looked up at him, but he kept his eyes forward. She gave his arm a tight squeeze and pulled herself away slightly so she could get a better look at him.

"I can tell Bakugo he's on his own and walk home with you if you want."

Shinso stopped her at the front gate and looked down at her. He wore the same bored expression he usually did, but the dark circles under his eyes looked more pronounced than usual. She crossed her arms and looked up at him with concern. He looked past her for a moment, seeingly thinking things over.

Shinso shook his head, "I talked to your mom this morning. She's going to make some arrangements." He laid his hand on her shoulder for a minute. "I'll see you when you get back home."
