Chapter Two: Closed Door
Do you want to look back at last year's memories?
After waking up in the afternoon, exhausted from being sick, this was one of the few notifications that she had gotten that popped up when she opened her phone.
"Wow, I'm popular today," she muttered to herself as she went to lay on the couch so she could watch television.
Messages from Emma-chan❤️, Onii-baka, Aniki, Onii-chan
Emma:
Kagome-chan! Good morning!
Halloween party tonight, Draken-kun said he's not going .
Do you want to come?
"That little—" Kagome muttered feeling a twitch in her eye. She hadn't even invited her in the first place! She wouldn't have been able to go anyway because she was sick, but still! Clenching her fist, the girl stopped herself from sending a snarky reply.
You:
I'm sick.
And that would be that. If Emma called her, she would just tell her she had fainted.
"Send, and let's see what Onii-baka wants…"
Onii-baka:
Oi wench! You still sick?
The old man says you haven't been answering his texts so he's making me do it!
Answer your fucking phone when he calls tonight!
Also you coming to the party tonight? I'll cover for you if your brother gets his panties in a twist.
He's always up your ass! You're a big girl, you can—
Kagome sighed, not bother to read the next ten messages. Her half-brother always started bashing her brother anytime he came up in conversation.
You:
Still sick
Plus as much as Onii-chan can be annoying, Aniki is just as bad.
He'd get pissed at both of us.
Onii-baka:
I told you I'd cover!
Just come!
You:
I'll think about it.
Closing the page, she took a breath before opening her Aniki's chat, dreading his nagging.
Aniki:
I will prevent Father from calling.
I will call instead, so answer.
If I hear you went to the idiot's party, there will be consequences.
"Wow guys, thanks for checking in on me." She muttered sarcastically. As she was about to open her other brother's message, the doorbell rang. She glanced back at the unopened message. Her Onii-chan hadn't been around lately. Was something going on in Toman? Was everyone alright?
Now there was knocking. Staring at the door, she felt nauseous again. Something terrible was behind that door, she could feel it.
"Kagome-chan!" It was Chifuyu-kun! With a grin, she nearly fell off of the couch. She went too open it, but suddenly remembered that she hadn't brushed her teeth. She couldn't greet Chifuyu with sick breath. Absolutely not! She blushed hotly and went to the candy bowl on the end table, smiling when her prayers were answered as she popped a mint.
"Kago-tan!" Mikey was here too? Suddenly feeling sick again she wondered why he was here too. While Chifuyu and Mikey were her brother's best friends, the three didn't usually hang out together at the same time.
Chifuyu called for her again and even as her hand hovered over the door handle, she couldn't bring herself to open the door. She felt like she was going to puke.
"Kago-tan I'm going to kick down the door!"
Having seen him do it before, she yanked the door open yelling "Mikey-no-baka—"
Seeing him leaning opposite her against the wall outside, her eye twitched twice before she opened her mouth to yell at him. However, getting a look at both of their faces she lost all of her bluster. They were beat to all hell. Chifuyu even had an eyepatch on! Giving a great sigh, she stood aside and ushered them inside. She went back to her room and grabbed her first-aid kit after replacing the cooling patch on her forehead. Toman's original members in their early days, before founding Toman, came over when they got into particularly bad fights. She learned how to patch them up and send them on their way. It was all she could do considering they wouldn't let her fight with them. But the two out there looked like they had been in a war. Tightening her grip on the box, she returned to the living room. What had happened? She hadn't seen Mikey beaten up like that before. Actually, she had never seen Mikey with more than a few scratches.
What happened?
The air was heavy when she entered the room.
Chifuyu wasn't looking at her.
Mikey hadn't flopped down and monopolized the couch.
They were just standing there.
What happened?
"Chifuyu-kun," she frowned at the boy as he clenched his teeth and continued to look away from her.
"Mikey," she tried, but her voice failed her as he trapped her in his chilling gaze.
What had happened?
She wanted to puke again.
"What's wrong?" She was starting to tremble and her limbs felt like lead.
"Where's my onii-chan? Where's Keisuke?"
