Chapter two

"Surprise!"

It took a few days to track my father down, and even longer to get there.

When I was standing on the doorstep of his house, I thought maybe it could be all worth it. But once I went inside, I found a horrible surprise. The whole place was wrecked, broken walls, blood everywhere, "-Wait blood?" I thought, "Oh no, father!" My mind raced through the horrible possibilities that could have happened.

I stepped into the next room as quietly as I could. There I found a girl looking around my age, crying over my fathers very dead body!

"I was just a few moments late," My mind started to spiral with guilt, "If I didn't stop to rest, and ran instead, I would have gotten here in time; I could have saved him." But al Ghul's were not supposed to feel guilt, we are not supposed to spiral into regret, assassins didn't regret.

"What happened here?" I asked the girl, covering my fearful tone.

The girl just sat there, over my fathers body. She looked me up and down, probably scanning for threats; she must have seen that I was. So She must have feared I was there to finish her off. But this girl was unique, she was different, she was my type of person. She looked up at me with pride in her eyes. Ready to go out like a warrior?

"I'm not here to hurt you, you idiot. I'm his daughter, and you will tell me what happened, do you understand me?" I spoke it like a real al Ghul.

The girl still kept her eyes locked with mine; that's when I saw a little gold sparkle in the back of one of her dark brown eyes. A little smile crept to the corner of her mouth.

"Daughter?" She scoffed. "Yeah right, now get the hell out of my house." A spark of lightning buzzed in her palm.

I smiled, "Electricity powers?" I sighed. "Come on, I don't want to fight you, I'm not even looking to have some fun. I just want to know what happened to my father. And this sure as hell is not your house, it was my fathers. Now what happened and who are you anyway?"

The girl said, "Five red monsters came in here and murdered my father. I was in the other room reading, when I heard something. I'm not sure what it was, but I just came running and I found him lying here dead. I saw them running away from the scene." She said flatly, "And yes, I'm his daughter, apparently just like you."

"Daughter? Please, that can't be, I was his only child, before he left me anyway." I shook my head.

"Well, since he 'left you' you should assume you don't know everything." She teased. "By the way, the name's Amanda… Amanda Faust." She had short blond hair with purple highlights, it was up in a high ponytail, probably to ensure no hair would get in her face when fighting.

For all I knew we didn't have any relatives with blond hair, she couldn't have been my sister. Then I saw her roots were brown, maybe we were actually sisters? She had hazel brown eyes just like mine. We looked alot alike, we both had about the same amount of freckles and the same pale skin. I'm sure we would have had the same hair too, if it wasn't for the blood red dye at the ends of mine.

"Jyn." I said even though she did not ask. I extended my arm to shake hands, even though she never extended hers.

"So… what is your birthday?" I asked, just trying to get to know her more.

"March 3, 1999, why?" She responded, boredly.

"Um, that's my birthday. You're 14?" Amanda nodded, "I think we might be twins. I mean like since we're sisters, and we have the same birthday." I said happily, a small grin on my face.

All this took my mind off my dead father. Al Ghuls don't mourn anyway, we are not supposed to feel pain; we see death every hour of every day.

We decided that I would live with Amanda. She told me about her background in crime, her villain name was Rider, and she explained her powers. "No wonder father decided to love her, she can create lightning for god's sake!" I thought. Only if Father was here now…

We became partners in crime, I took the villain name Phoenix because I was magical just like one. In the league we never really had villain names; we just used our real names, because we did not fear others finding out our identity, but now we had to be different. We were the best villain partnership in Gotham. When we were not being villains we were just Jyn and Amanda Faust, two 'normal' people.

Amanda was all I had, and I was all she had, so we cared about each other; we could not afford to have sibling rivalries.

She made me a mask and supersuit, apparently it was her specialty. It was different from the one I had at the league; this time it was purple, my old one was dark red. This one had protective armor, but it was two pieces so it also let me do my flips and other moves I would need to do to kill an opponent.

I stayed with Amanda for two years before disaster struck, again: I was in the house getting ready for our little night out, [what the cool kids now call crime]. Amanda started walking out the door, so I tried to catch up.

I heard Amanda say, "Get the hell out of the way!" Right before I heard a big crash. I ran up to her, that's when I saw them.

Demons? The sons of Trigon? No, no, no, "Big. Red. Monsters." No. They killed my father. Now they were going to kill my sister, my only family left, my only happiness, my only joy in this hell we call Earth. Why were demons here, why on Earth? Why did they want to mess up my life?

Amanda was on the ground, why? What did they do to her? Was she dead…?

I tried to run up to her, but they held me back in a force bubble. I used a spell to break free; to my surprise it worked. I ran up to her with tears in my eyes, I was going to save her; I was not going to let her die like Father. I pulled off my mask. I didn't care if anyone could see my face. I didn't care about anything but saving Amanda. These demons obviously already knew who we were.

She was gone, she was dead. I was ready to kill these idiots. I turned around, but just then they evaporated into thin air.
