Chapter 2
Questioning

Once the tea was ready. Elisa brought the cups over first, then grabbed a pen and paper before sitting at the table.

"Okay, let's begin with where you two are from?" she asked first.

"We're from Japan. In the city of Musutafu," Izuku answered as Elisa wrote that down first.

"So, are you here on vacation then, or did you move here with your families?"

"Neither, actually. We were heading to our separate internships with two pro heroes. When a strange light blinded us, and when we woke up, we were here in New York," Uraraka said next, then took a sip of her tea.

Hearing this part was puzzling for Elisa. She blinked in surprise at the mention of pro heroes and internships.

"Aren't you two a little young to be working? I mean, I know some places do allow part-time jobs. But still, this is new to me. Also, what do you mean by Pro Heroes?" she asked with a curious look.

Blinking in shock, both teens looked at each other, then back at her. "You know, Pro Heroes. Protectors of the innocent. Helping others and fighting bad guys...I'm sure you must know about All Might? He is, or was, the number one Hero in Japan."

Elisa said nothing; she didn't know what Izuku was talking about.

"Okay then, what about Endeavor, Best Jeanist, Hawks, Ryuku, Kamui Woods, Mt Lady?" Uraraku added as she spoke of a few hero names.

Again silence was heard, which was starting to scare the two.

"I'm sorry, but I don't know who or what you're talking about. I've never heard of Pro Heroes. These names sound like those from comic books." Elisa stated as she was having trouble trying to understand this.

Both Izuku and Uraraka were wondering what was going on. How could she not know about Pro Heroes? They had them in other countries. So what was going on?

"Wait, maybe this will help," Izuku said next as he pulled out his cell phone, then located the saved video and played it for her.

It showed a disaster scene with fire and smoke. There were cars turned over, and people were panicking. Then all of a sudden, someone pointed at a figure emerging from the fire.

It was a massive man with blonde hair and huge muscles, wearing an American flag-themed outfit. And he was laughing while carrying a group of unconscious people.

"Fear not, citizens, help has arrived. Because I am here!" the man stated with a grin.

Looking at the video, Elisa first thought about how this man looked like a pro wrestler. But seeing him save those people made her think differently.

"Who was it, and what is that device you're holding?"

"That man is called All Might. He's one of the greatest heroes in the world. Known by many as the Symbol of Peace. And the hero many look up to. Including myself and my friends, and this is a cell phone. Don't you have one?" Izuku explained as he handed her the phone.

Examining it, Elisa thought how it looked strange. She knew about cell phones, but they were blocky and used by businessmen or government agents. This type, however, looked like something from Star Trek.

"Hmm, I've never seen one like this. Is it a new type from Japan?" Elisa asked next.

"Actually, it's a few years old. My mom got it for me as a gift. And Uraraka has her own," he stated as Uraraka showed hers next.

"Okay, let's put that aside. I've never heard of this All Might you showed me. Look, kids, I don't know what you're talking about. What you're saying sounds impossible."

"But it's true; everyone knows about him. He's a teacher at our school and helped us with our Quirk training!" rebutted Uraraka.

"...Um, what are Quirks?" Elisa asked next in confusion.

"What do you mean, what are Quirks?" Izuku said but did not receive an answer.

"I'll show you." Uraraka took out a keychain from her pocket. After setting it on the desk, she placed one finger on it, making it float upwards.

Elisa first moved her hands beneath the keychain to see if a wire was holding it. Or if it was magnetic. She was amazed and shocked at what she was seeing.

"This isn't a trick, Detective. What you're seeing is my power. I can make things weightless just by touching them," explained Uraraka as she said, "Release," which made the keychain drop onto the desk.

Elisa was speechless after seeing this. So many questions started to form in her mind. "How did you do that?" she asked first.

"I told you, it's my Quirk. My power is similar to Gravity. But if I use it too long, I will get sick and throw up."

Upon hearing this, Elisa wrote down what Uraraka said. She turned to Izuku next. "And what is yours?"

Standing up before her, Izuku breathed slowly as he outstretched his hands, then called upon his power by one percent. Green lightning coursed around his body.

"What you see is my Quirk; it's a strength enhancement type that allows me to move fast and attack with great force. And a few other things as well. But like Uraraka's, if I use it at high levels, it can damage my arms and legs," he stated, taking off his gloves and showing Elisa the scars on both of them.

Gasping in horror, Elisa couldn't believe what she was seeing. Izuku's hands looked like something from a slasher movie.

"My god!" she said, looking at both arms.

"I know, it's hard to look at," he responded, then put his gloves back on.

"How, when, who?" was all Elisa could say after seeing this.

"It happened from past times when I used my Quirk at full strength. But I've gotten better at it over time," Izuku stated with a firm look.

'Man, this is a lot to take in!' Elisa thought as she calmed herself.

"Okay then. Before we continue, I need a few moments to process this," Eliza said to them, then went to her bedroom for a bit.

Once alone, the two teens looked at each other as they talked to each other in silence.

"How could she not know about Quirks. They have pro heroes in America," Uraraka wondered.

"Yeah, none of this makes sense...also, did you see how she reacted when looking at my cell phone. It was like the Detective had never had one before," added Izuku.

While the two tried to figure this out, Elisa did the same thing in the other room.

'Okay, Elisa, think. You just saw two teenagers do things that shouldn't be possible. And yet it did happen!' she seriously thought to herself.

'And that phone of his. It was like a video camera, yet it was so thin and square-like. Something like that is way advanced and shouldn't be real. It looked like something from the fu-' Elisa stopped when it came to that last part.

"No, that's crazy...I mean...it's not possible. But then again, I once thought the same thing about Gargoyles...hmm."

After thinking this over briefly, Elisa decided to test her theory by returning to the dining room. She took a deep breath before speaking.

"Okay, I've gone over what you said and showed me. And I might have a theory that might answer my questions."

"And what's that, Miss Maza?" asked Uraraka.

"Because...it has to do with your phone, Quirks, and the heroes you spoke of," she responded, then went over to pick up her house phone.

"You see, this is what portal phones look like. But the one you have is way more advanced than what most people have. It shouldn't be possible as this looks like something from a TV show."

Both remained quiet as Elisa continued.

"As for what you could do, I was so shocked because I've never seen someone do that before. Which brings me to the third matter."

"You see, I haven't heard of these heroes... because I don't know if they have been born yet."

'Haven't been born yet!' Both thought as those words echoed in their minds. The teens wondered what she meant until Izuku caught on. "Detective, are you saying..."

"Yes... somehow I think you two have traveled back in time."

Izuku and Uraraka both gasped.

"But, how, who, what, why?" was all Uraraka could muster in words while Izuku was trying to think of a way this could have happened.

"Maybe a villain with a time control quirk used it, and it sent us here. Or some outside force is responsible! Then again, someone could have made a time machine, which went array, sending those across time and space. Or it's possible-" he was saying so fast, in one of his trademark mumbles.

"Uh, Izuku, are you okay?" Elisa asked as she touched his shoulder.

"Hm, oh, sorry about that. When I get nervous, I start to ramble on," he replied, looking embarrassed.

"This is a joke, right? Please tell me it's a joke!" Uraraka asked hopefully.

But Elisa just shook her head at the girl. She then got up and went to nearby bookshelves, where she picked one of the history books and brought it back to show them.

"Look here. This one is from a year ago. It stops at the end of 1993."

Looking through the pages, Izuku and Uraraka saw no mention of Pro Heroes or Quirks. Only the history that occurred from the early age of the world til...now!
After this, both teens looked scared and shocked as the realization started to take effect.

"Look, I know this is a lot to take in. And I'm still having trouble accepting this. But we will find an answer," Elisa stated calmly.

"...But, what are we going to do now? Both of us have nowhere to go?" Uraraka asked sadly.

Elisa was thinking the same thing. It was too dangerous to let two teenagers live on the streets. Especially given they were from the future and had superpowers. If people learned about them, neither would be seen again as the government would want to experiment on them.

"I might have a suggestion if you two are open to it," Eliza said.

"Uh, what is it?" Izuku asked.

"Since you two have nowhere to go, you can stay here for now."

"Huh? What? You want us to live here?" both asked simultaneously.

"That's correct. As an officer of the law, it's my job to help those in need. Even two time-displaced teenagers," Elisa responded to them, then gestured to her home.

After hearing this, the two talked briefly as they discussed this offer. Given their situation and the fact that she was the only person who knew their secret. Izuku and Uraraka knew it made sense to accept her offer.

"We've talked about it, and we accept. Thank you," they said while offering a respectful bow to her.

"It's no problem. Oh, man. We've been talking for so long, I forgot I was sleeping earlier," Eliza replied, then got up. She looked at the time on the clock, which read 1:30. " Listen, why don't we talk more tomorrow."

"Sure thing," Izuku replied as he started to feel tired.

Elisa grabbed some spare blankets, pillows, and air mattresses for her guests. "I know it's not ideal right now. But one can sleep on the couch, and the other can use this air mattress," she told them as she helped set them up.

After this, Izuku said he would take the couch, and Uraraka could use the mattress. While she wanted to rebut this offer, he told her she used her Quirk more often than he did with the thugs and that she would need the rest.

'He's thinking about my well-being more than his. Deku really cares about me!' she thought as a blush formed.

Since they had no extra clothes, Elisa lent them some of her old clothes to wear tonight.

After changing, the three said goodnight, and soon the call of sleep was coming over them.

But before this happened, Izuku wondered one thing.

'If we're in a time before Quirks. Then...who or what were those beings we met earlier?'

To Be Continued.
