2 Years After Attacking Mine 17

POV - Whitley

"Something doesn't feel right about this one," I said to Felix.

"Why do you say that," he asked.

"I don't know it's just a feeling," I answered.

"It's not to late to cancel," he said.

"Yes it is," I said.

"What do you want to do then," he asked.

"I'm gonna tell Jacques that I'm going to Mistral for that new dust that the Creed found," I answered.

"Are you sure," he asked.

"Yes," I answered.

"Alright, you should do that now then," he said.

"All ready on it," I said as I grabbed the letter from my dresser.

Leaving my room I turned into smoke and began making my way toward Jacques' office.

'Hopefully he isn't in a meeting right now'

Flying over Klein, he seemed amused to see me flying in the house.

"That better not make a mess Whitley," he said.

"If it does that would be a development in my semblance," I said.

Returning to my main goal I sped up. Reaching Jacques' office always felt like a drag and I think it's because of my business as the White Death. Reaching his office I transformed out of smoke form and landed softly kn the ground.

Knock Knock

"Come in," Jacques' muffled voice said.

"Father I have some exciting news," I said as I entered the room.

"What are you on about now," he asked.

'Douchebag'

"There was a new dust crystal found in Mistral," I said.

"What," he asked as he put down what he was reading.

"They call it dark dust," I answered.

"Ok um how is it mined," he asked.

"There unsure but I applied to go and help them find out how it's mined," I answered.

"I assume you're here to tell me you're leaving then," he said.

"Yes Sir," I said.

"Alright, don't dissapear this time," he said.

"I wont sir," I said as I left the office.

'Why do I feel so bad about today'

Flying back to my room I grabbed The Scroll from my desk drawer.

Call Captain

"Hello," Brutus said.

"Hey, I dont know why but soemthing feels wrong with today, I want you to drop anchor closer to shore," I said.

"I can do that, do you want to push back the assault," he asked.

"No, that is not an option," I answered.

"Alright kid, be careful in there," he said before hanging up.

'Time to prepare'

(Time Skip)

'Well that was easy, to easy'

Dropping the last guard on the ground I went to the faunus holding cells.

"Hello everyone," I said as J entered the hall.

It was silent before the whispers started. I was used to it though, it happened every time.

"Do you know where my daughter is," one of the men asked.

"No, did I miss something," I asked myself.

"There is a small room at the end of the mine," one of the women said.

"Alright I'm gonna set you all free, I want you to wait by the entrance, just don't go outside," I said as I froze all of the locks off.

Flying out of the room I made my way to the back of the mine. Scanning the walls I found a tall pile of boxes. Throwing the boxes to the side I saw a small doorway. It was pitch black in the room with the only light coming in from the mine hall. Walking in slowly I formed my shotguns and pointed them at the walls. Suddenly someone jumped on my back and forced me to the floor. Turning into smoke, I got out of their grip but was immediately stopped by another person. The lights were turned on, blinding me for a moment. Looking around I was surrounded by the Atlas Military's best.

"Alpha Squad," I said aloudju.

'This is going to be a tough fight'

Acting quickly I extended my wrist blade and slash at the person stopping me in the face in an attempt to blind them. Making contact I used my semblance and created an icy blindfold. Taking the chance I focused solely on dodging everybody else while staying focused on the man in front of me. Throwing punch after punch I could feel his aura slowly depleting. After about 20 hits his aura shattered and I plunged my blade into his side before covering my hand in ice and knocking him out.

'One down, 7 to go'

"No," I heard a female yell.

Turning away from the voice I saw two men charging me. Jumping back I froze the floor making the two of them slip and fall. Lunging forward I grabbed both of their heads and slammed them into the ground, shattering their auras. Reeling my arms back I slammed their heads down hard.

'Three down, five to go'

Turning my head to the left I saw a woman holding a trident. Forming my shotguns I fired at her, freezing her weapon to the floor. My aura was low already and I had to end the fight quickly. Suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my side. Looking down I saw the tip of a blade poking through my stomach.

'Fuck'

Pulling my arms in I summoned an icy blast and forced released freezing three of them. Out of nowhere, I was grabbed and forced into a bear hug.

"Enough, you attack again, this girl is gonna get hurt," a commanding female voice said.

Looking left I saw who I assumed was the leader standing in the doorway with a blade pushed against the little girl's throat.

"What are you doing," I heard the voice of the woman who had me in her grasp ask.

"What needs to be done," the leader responded.

"You said we weren't going to hurt the kid," she said.

"That doesn't matter right now Elm," the leader said.

"No, we are doing this to get money, you said that nobody was going to get hurt," the now named Elm said.

"That's what we told you to get you to agree to this," the leader said.

"No, let the girl go, we can use your semblance to bring him in," Elm said.

"No, we are killing the White Death today," the leader said.

At that point I began to go unconscious but held on.

"This is rich, the Atlas Military's best are holding a small girl hostage to get to a vigilante," I said.

"Shut up filth," the leader said.

"Yes, the man who is saving innocent faunus is filth," I said.

"Elm, kill him now," the leader said.

Elm seemed to freeze for a few minutes.

"Can you stop her," Elm whispered to me.

"Only if you let me go," I whispered back.

Elm started to loosen her grip.

"Elm, as your leader I am ordering you to kill him now," the leader said.

Activating my semblance I readied an ice shot in my hand. Elm almost had me out of her grip.

'Breath Whitley, call on your rage'

I felt my body heat up as everything turned deep red around me. Soon I began slipping down Elm's body as her grip became loose enough for me to throw the ice at the leader. Following through, I throw the ice straight at the leader's arm so as to not risk missing her head. The ice made contact with her arm, freezing her arm completely.Turning into smoke, I flew straight at her before returning to my physical form and jumping directly on her. Pushing the girl back toward Elm, I extended my wrist blade and began paying into her. Stab after stab made contact with her body. I recovered my other hand in ice and began punching her as well. Soon everything was red and I didn't hide the anger I felt.

POV - Elm

I hugged the small girl to my chest as the White Death seemed to get lost betting into the woman I once called leader.

"Are you ok," I asked the small girl.

The nodded her head yes.

"I'm sorry you had to deal with that," I apologized.

"It's ok," she said.

"No it's not," I said.

Looking up I noticed that the White Death hadn't stopped.

"I think she's done," I said to him.

Either he didn't hear me or he didn't care that he still had a blade through his stomach.

"Death, she's dead," I yelled.

This seemed to get his attention. He stopped his seemingly never ending assault.

"I'm sorry you had to see that," he said as he stood up but stumbled to the wall.

"Are you ok," I asked.

"Elm, stay here for about ten minutes," he said.

"Why," I asked.

"Just do it, kid come on," he said.

The little girl ran up to him and hugged his waist.

"Don't worry about the General, I'll give him a call and cover for you," he said before leaving the small girl out of the room.

POV - Whitley

"Come on kid," I said as I leaded the small girl toward the rest of the faunus.

"Are you ok Mister Death," the little girl asked me.

"No, no I'm not," I answered.

We walked up to the front of the mine where we met the rest of the faunus. They looked at me and seemed to freeze. Two of the men approached me and took my arms.

"What are you doing," I asked.

"Let us help you, you're barely standing," one of them said.

"Ok," I said.

They each put one of my arms over their shoulders.

"Just tell us where to go ok," the other one said.

"Ok, can one of you grab the scroll from my pocket," I asked.

The one on my left reached into my pocket and grabbed The Scroll.

"Find the contact called Captain," I said.

After a few seconds I heard my scroll ringing.

"Death," I heard the voice of Brutus say.

"I was right to feel off, I'm hurt bad," I said.

"What can I do," he asked, worry clear in his voice.

"Get your men ready, I'm gonna do my best to get them across the water, but if I can't I need your men ready to come get us," I said.

"Alright, I'm on it kid," he said before hanging up.

"Put the scroll back in my pocket and start walking toward the ocean," I said.

The two began walking, leading the group out of the mine.

"Which way is it," the one on my right asked.

"Left," I answered.

They turned left and started walking. I know it was going to take a minute and my aura was going to shatter at any minute. They walked through the snow leaving miles of tracks behind us. I knew that the Militray already knew where I was leading the faunus after getting them out of the mine, but that didn't change the feeling of failure that was setting in. I could see Brutus' boat just off shore.

'God they're close'

"Get the scroll and call him again," I said.

They did as I said and started calling him.

"Hey we can see you on the beach, what's wrong," Brutus asked.

"I can't get them over," I said.

"Ok just stay there," he said.

"Where would we go, back to the mine," I said jokingly.

"No idea, we're on our why did you lose any," he asked.

"No," I answered.

"Ok this should take us three trips," he said.

"Makes sure you leave me for last," I said.

"Are you sure," he asked.

"No, you're hurt you can't stay here," one of the faunus said.

"I'm here to save you people, not run from the military," I said.

"But you're hurt, we're not," another said.

"I don't care," I said.

Looking back to the ocean I saw the first batch of rafts coming for us. It would probably take 20 minutes to get everyone on.

"Alright 10 per raft," one of the crew yelled to the crowd.

"We'll stay here with you," the one to my left said.

"Yeah," the one on my right said.

"Let's sit down then," I said.

The two led me to a rock before sitting me down on it.

"Thank you," I said.

"No we should be thanking you, this is the least we can do," the one on my right said.

Taking a minute to examine myself, I saw that my leg was bleeding.

'Well that's not good'

Time seemed to speed up as the faunus were moved onto the rafts. Then it was my turn to go, as I was on the water I could feel myself slipping more and more. My eyes closed once and opened to see Brutus looking down at me. I felt him pick me up and start running. I could barely see the halls of his boat through my eyelids which were hard to keep open because they felt like bricks.

POV - Brutus

"Get out of the way," I yelled as I ran as fast as I could to medical.

There was a sword places firmly in his chest, and his leg was destroyed. I ran as fast as I could, this kid needed to live. A hall was made for me to run through. I ran into the med-bay and put him in the far cot. I closed the curtain and opened his jacket. One of the nurses came into the curtain and froze.

"Help him," I said.

"He needs air," she said.

"But his mask," I said.

"It needs to happen," she said.

I walked up to him and put my hand over his head but stopped. His hand came up and made me touch his mask. Grabbing the mask I lifted it up. I got his mask off and saw the last person I expected to see.

Whitley Schnee.

"Oh my god," the nurse said.

"Not a word understood," I said.

"Yes sir," she said before applying the anesthetic.

Whitley looked at me as he went to sleep.

"I need to make a call," I said.

"Can you wheel in the aura stimulator," she asked.

"Alright," I said.

Grabbing the machine I put it in the curtain before stepping out into the hall. Grabbing my scroll I called Ghira.

"Come on pick up, pick up," I said.

"Hello Brutus, what's happening," Ghira asked.

"Listen can you get a room ready for someone who is in a bad condition," I asked.

"Yes, why," he asked.

"The White Death is hurt, bad," I said.

"How bad is bad," he asked.

"If he didn't get treatment he might have died," I answered.

"Alright we can get a room ready," he said.

"Thank you Ghira," I said.

"Don't thank me for doing what's right for our species," he said.

"I know it is," I said before hanging up.

Stepping back in the room I went right back to Whitley.

"How's he coming," I asked.

"Well the swords out," she answered as she pointed to the floor.

Looking where she was pointing I saw the sword sitting on the floor.

"I need to get us moving," I said.

"Alright," she said.

Leaving the room I headed straight to the helm.

(Time Skip)

'I'm stressed but he's almost safe'

I was sitting next to Whitley doing my best to stay calm. He was still hooked up to the anesthetic.

'Hold on kid we're almost there'

"He's stable but needs rest," the nurse said.

"I figured," I said.

"Alright," she said before walking away.

Standing up I made my back to the helmet. It had been a long couple of days. I was exhausted and drained from everything that had happened.

'How am I gonna get him on land'

Thinking it over I figured the only way to do it would be to take him off the anesthetic.

"Land ahead," the spotter yelled.

After an incident with the light house on Menagerie with another boat beaching itself. I hired a faunus who had better sight than the rest of the crew. Dropping the speed I prepared to dock.

"Hawk," I yelled.

"Yes Captain," he responded.

"Can you take the wheel," I asked.

"Um sure," he answered.

"Thank you," I said.

Stepping out and onto the main deck I jumped atop a box and readied myself to yell.

"Alright everybody gather around," I yelled.

The crew that was on the deck came up to me.

"Hawk," I yelled once more.

"Yes Captain," he yelled from the window.

"Announce to the crew below deck to get up here," I yelled.

"Right away," he said.

Soon after everybody from below deck came up.

"First I want to congratulate all of you for your work two nights ago, you should all be incredibly proud of yourselves," I said.

This seemed to get everyone's Hope's up... good cause the next parts not as good.

"Now this next part is going to require all of you to help," I said.

"You say this like you're worried that we weren't going to help," one of my men said.

"I know you all will but this is serious and I need you all to know," I said.

This got everyone's attention.

"As most, if not all of you, already know that the Whits Death sustained some serious injuries," I said.

Everybody nodded their heads in acknowledgement.

"Once all of the faunus are off the boat I need all of you to make a clearing for us to lower the White Death down," I said.

Some nodded their heads, others made sounds of acknowledgment.

"I want to hear you all say that you understand," I said.

"Yes Captain," they all yelled in sink.

"Good, now back to your posts, we're almost home," I said.

'This might get hectic'

Walking back down to the med-bay I sat down next to him again.

"Alright stand ready to dock," Hawk said over the speakers.

Soon I felt my boat come to a stop.

"Alright everyone, you know what to do," Hawk said.

Soon I heard the sound of the faunus being loaded off the boat. What usually took 15 minutes took 30 minutes due to the passages wanting the White Death to be let off first. It was kind of them but we already had a plan, they wouldn't listen though.

"Captain," the nurse said.

"Yes," I asked.

"They need your help," she said.

Standing up I turned and looked and Whitley.

"He'll be ok," she said.

"I know," I said before leaving the room.

Walking up to the deck I saw every faunus we had freed waiting on the deck. It was loud and nobody was quiting down.

"Quiet," I yelled at the top of my lungs.

The entire deck went silent.

"What is going on," I yelled.

"We want the White Death to be unloaded first," someone yelled.

"We can't do that with everybody on the deck," I said.

In an instant a isle was made directly to the lift.

"Alright fine, I want every boat hand off first, make an opening," I ordered.

I turned and went back down to the med-bay. Entering I saw the nurse getting Whitley ready to leave.

"Let's get his mask on," I said.

"But everyone is still on board," she said.

"They want him off first," I said.

"Of course they do," she said.

Drabbing his mask I put it back on his face.

"You're almost safe," I said to him.

"You know he can't hear you," she asked.

"I know," I said.

"Alright, pull the cot forward," she said.

Grabbing the end of the cot I pulled it forward. The wheels squeaked into motion as we began pushing him through the halls. Getting through the halls was easy but getting him up the stairs was a little tricky. We pushed him up slowly as to not wake him up. Slowly we pushed him onto the main deck.

"Brutus," the nurse said.

Turning my head I raised and eyebrow... nobody says my name.

"Go get the aura stimulator, don't pick it up, roll it here," she said.

Looking at him I saw his aura flaring around him. Running back in I ran as fast as I could back to the med-bay. Running into to the med-bay I looked for the machine and found it in the corner. Pushing it as fast as I could through the halls. For the stairs I slowly pushed it up them as to not shake the machine.

Once on the deck I saw Whitley's aura flair again.

"Here it is," I said to the nurse.

"Alright I need you to push that next to him as we move," she said.

"Ok," I said.

Stepping away from him she grabbed these two pads and placed them on his chest. She flipped a switch on the device making it to whirl to life. The machines low hum silenced by the people around us.

"Alright, let's get him off this bout," she said.

Pushing him through the crowd was surreal. Silence fell upon the deck as all eyes fell on Whitley as we pushed him through the isle that had been made. Lifting him and the aura stimulator over the small lip we were on the lift. After a second we began to descend down to the dock.

Looking over the side of the lift I saw my crew doing their best to hold back the Menagerie guard.

"Let us through you fools," I heard one yell.

We reached the bottom of the lift and were greeted by the dock crew.

"Hey Brutus mind tell us whats...

The docks manager stopped as he says Whitley laying on the cot. The entirety of the dock crew froze and stared at Whitley's unmoving body.

"He'll live, just needs some rest is all," I said.

"Good," he said.

Two of the dock workers stepped onto the lift and helped me get Whitley onto the dock. Turning around to grab the machine I saw that the nurse had already done so.

"Thank you," I said.

"It's no problem," she said.

Pushing him forward I couldn't stop my nerves from sky rocketing.

"Brutus, I need you to calm down," she said.

"I know," I said trying to breath.

'Where are you Ghira'

"Everybody stop," I heard the booming voice of Ghira yell.

In an instant the Menagerie guard stopped pushing.

"That goes for you as well boys," I yelled.

My crew stepped back making an opening wide enough for Ghire and Kali to step through. Kali was the first to see Whitley and the first to come running.

"What happened to him," Kali asked.

"Didn't get the chance to ask," I answered.

Looking past Kali I saw Ghira standing in the opening staring at Whitley.

"You said he was in bad shape, you should have been more descriptive," Ghira said.

"I still don't know the full extent of his injuries," I said.

"Alright, I dont think we can get that big cot through this crowd," the nurse said.

"Can he be carried," Ghira asked after walking over to us.

"Yes, but this machine needs to stay close to him," the nurse answered.

Picking him up I made sure Ghira could carry the machine, which he did with ease. Walking forward I felt all eyes land on Whitley and me. Soon, much like before, the crowd grew silent.

"Make a lane please," Ghira said.

Doing as they were asked, a small lane big enough for us to fit through was made.

'You're almost safe kid'

Walking through the crowds I was stopped by an old lady.

"Excuse me ma'am," I said.

"Let me see him," she said.

"Um ma'am," I asked, turning to Ghira looking for answers.

Looking down at her I saw she had her hand in his mask. Panicking I froze unsure of what to do. She slowly dragged her hand upward toward his hood. She grabbed the bridge and pulled it back revealing his bright, white hair.

"He's a human," she said.

"Yes ma'am," I said.

"Good," she said.

"What do you mean," I asked.

"It's a good thing that he's a human," she said again ignoring my question.

Her tall rabbit ears drooped as she examined his body.

"You have all of these scars for our people," she said as she ran a hand through his hair.

She stopped touching his hair and stepped aside giving me a clear shot straight to the Belladonna house. I started walking and didn't stop until I was at the door. Kali opened the door for us and stepped in. Walking into the home I was greeted by the all to familiar walls.

"Follow me," Kali said.

Leading me through the house we ended up in one of the spair bedrooms that had no windows.

"Put him down here," Kali said, pointing to a bed.

Walking towards the bed, I gently laid Whitley down.

"He's going to be ok," the nurse said again.

"I know," I said, "Hey, I don't think I ever caught your name."

"Huh, how do you not know my name? You are the captain after all," she said.

"I think you might be one of the people Hawk brought on board," I said.

"My name is Meg Scarletin," she said.

"Thank you, Meg," I said.

"It's the least I can do for him," she said.

We all stood in silence for a moment not quite knowing what to say.

"So there may be a silent problem," Meg said.

"Being," I asked.

"I need to take his mask back off," Meg said.

"Should we leave the room," Kali asked.

"I'm not sure, part of me thinks he would want you to know, but the other part is saying that I need to keep his secret safe," I answered.

"Well let's wait for him to wake up then," Ghira said.

"Wait I have an idea," I said.

Reaching into Whitley's inner pocket I grabbed his scroll.

"I'll call someone who I know will have the answer," I said.

Turning on his scroll I went to contacts and looked for his butler's contact.

Felix

'Well that was easy'

Call

Buzz... Buzz... Buzz

"Hey kid where are you," Felix asked.

"Felix this is Brutus," I said.

"Brutus… what's wrong with Whitley," he asked frantically.

"I don't know all the details, all I can tell you is that he got into a fight with somebody who know what they were doing," I said.

"Will he be ok," he asked.

"He stable we're just waiting for his aura to finish healing him," I answered.

"So his feeling was right," he said.

"Yes his bad feeling was right," I said.

"Alright, well I assume you need something," he said.

"Yes, I need to know if Death would be ok with showing the Belladonna's his face," I asked.

"Well he planned to bring them into the fold at some point so go right ahead," he answered.

"Thank you Felix," I said.

"No thank you for getting him help," he said.

"Of course," I said before hanging up.

"They're good," I said.

"Alright," Meg said before taking off Whitley's mask.

"Oh my goodness," Kali said.

"He's... a Schnee," Ghira said.

"Yes, yes he is," I said.

"How long have you known," he asked.

"Since last night," I replied.

Kali anxiously walked up to his said.

"Why," Kali asked.

"At this point I don't really know any more," I said.

"What made you become a hero," Kali asked.

This time I realized that she wasn't talking to us, but instead was talking to him.

"What did you see," Kali asked.

"He saw the truth," I said.

She backed away from him and walked back to Ghira.

"We'll keep him safe for now, I'm sure that Sienna isn't going to be happy with this," he said.

"Why would she not be," I asked.

"The White Fang hates the White Death," he answered.

"What," I yelled.

"Easy Brutus, it's stupid and everybody knows it," he said.

"Brutus, you need to go to sleep," Meg said.

"But-

"I will watch him, you need sleep," Meg interrupted.

"Alright, alright," I said before leaving the room.
