10 Months After Meeting Simo
POV - Whitley
"So sister, how is applying to Beacon going," I asked.
'I don't know why I even bother, she hates me'
"What do you want," Weiss snipped.
'What did I just say'
"I would like to have a conversation with my sister," I answered, my voice calm trying not to show any emotions.
"When have you ever tried to have a conversation with me," she asked.
'You want the list'
"I have tried many times, but you are always too busy," I answered.
"Then why now, you clearly know that I'm very busy," she asked.
'You act just like him, and I know how mad you'd be if you recognized it'
"Because you aren't currently doing anything so I figured that it would be as good a time as any," I answered.
"For your information, I am doing well, I am on my way to completing the last of Father's tasks," she said.
"Tasks," I asked.
"The ones he gave me which will determine if I am allowed to go to Beacon or not," she answered.
"Well good luck," I said before turning and walking toward Felix.
'What did I do to make you hate me'
"How'd it go," Felix asked.
"She wants nothing to do with me," I answered.
"Just give her time," he said.
"I know... I just... I don't know," I said.
"Your family loves you they just don't know how to show it," he said.
"I hope so," I said.
"Ok everyone except Jacques," he said as we started walking toward my room.
"Well it's a good thing he's not my family," I said.
We both chuckled at this, trying to keep quiet as we walked through the halls.
"Oh I ment to say, James sent you a letter," he said.
"What," I asked.
'I told him never to send my anything'
"It's a letter to you Whitley," he answered.
"I see," I said.
"I'm pretty sure it had the academy's stamp on it," he said.
"What are you implying," I asked.
"I'm implying that soon, you, your sisters, and me, wont have have to stay here," he answered.
"Yes because Winter is here often," I said.
"Not my point," he said.
"You know why I don't necessarily like them, but why I so desperately want to have a relationship with them," I said.
"I know kid, I've tried to tell her but she thinks with you being who you are that you don't need her help," he said.
"Yes because I don't want the help of my oldest sister in becoming a better person," I said.
"Once again not what I ment," he said.
"Then what do you mean," I yelled losing my temper, "I'm sorry I-I didn't mean to raise my voice."
"I know you didn't, you're mad because well you can easily pick your enemies, and your father apart, you struggle to understand your sisters and mother," he said.
"Let's change the topic please," I said.
"Sure thing kid," he said.
"So the letter," I asked.
"I think it may be an invitation," he a answered.
"Is he allowed to do that," I asked.
"Yup, it's called the accelerated huntsmen program, a few schools have it, most can't use it often because a student needs to meet some pretty high expectations," he answered.
"They have a whole program for it," I said.
"Yeah, it's actually a really good idea," he said.
"Wait wait wait, I need to reel this conversation in, did you say that you weren't going to be staying here when me and Weiss are gone," I asked.
"Yeah I'm going to be staying with Winter, during your classes," he answered.
"I-I need to talk to Klein," I said as I turned into smoke and flew off.
'If he's not here and we're not here... mom she'll be the only one here... with him'
"Klein," I said as I saw the short man.
"Master Whitley how may I help you," Klein asked.
"I need a favor," I answered.
"What type," he asked.
"I need you to watch over my mother," I answered.
"Why would I need to do that," he asked.
"Because none of us are going to be here to keep Father of her back," I answered.
"Where are you going," he asked.
"I may or may not have been invited to join Atlas Academy early," I answered.
"Congratulations Whitley," he said.
"Thank you," I said.
"Now to answer your question, of course I can watch over your Mother," he said.
"Thank you," I said.
"It is no problem, I have a feeling that Jacques is going to get what's coming to him soon," he said.
"What do you mean by that," I asked.
"I mean with this mysterious White Death, and you and your sister leaving the nest, I have a feeling someone is going to come for him," he answered.
"I see," I said.
"Well don't let my babbling keep you... oh and I should tell you, your mother wishes to speak with you," he said.
"What for," I asked.
"I am not entirely sure," he said.
"Thanks for telling me," I said before walking off.
"She's in the flower garden," he said.
"I know," I said.
I turned into smoke and began flying toward the garden.
'Wonder why she needs me'
I reformed as I reached the door to the garden. I opened the door and stepped into the beautiful garden. Flowers ranging in size and color lined the walls and bushes, it never surprised me that she loved spending most of her time here. Looking toward the center I saw Mother sitting on the bench with a letter in her hand.
"Hello Mother," I said.
"Hello Whitley, how are you today," she asked.
"I'm doing well," I answered.
"That's good," she said.
"Is something wrong," I asked.
"No, I just want to talk to you about this letter," she answered.
"What's it about," I asked.
"James has personally invited you to join Atlas Academy two years early," she said.
"Really," I asked, acting excited as to hide the fact that Felix had already told me.
"I'm glad that you're so excited about this," she said.
"How can I not be," I asked.
"That's fair," she answered.
We went silent as neither of us know what to say. That's when I got an idea.
"Mother," I said.
"Yes," she said.
"Are you alright," I asked.
"I'm not sure," she said.
"Is there something you would like to do," I asked.
"I would like to take you and Weiss out to dinner," she answered.
'Ok so she's drunk'
"That sounds lovely," I said.
"I think I know where we'll go but for now you should do something productive," she said.
'Well if I can't talk to my sister , let's see if I can talk with my mother'
"Mother," I said.
"Yes dear," she said.
"Can you and I spar," I asked.
"You want to spar with me," she asked, suprise clear in her voice.
"Yes, Weiss no longer gives me a challenge. I figured the next best person would be you considering the fact that Winter is never here, and when she is she dedicates all of her time to training Weiss," I answered.
"I dont know your so early in your training, and are weapons aren't similar at all, would it even be worth it," she asked.
"Sparing was made so that peaople can learn," I answered.
"You know what sure, let me go get into something more appropriet," she said as she stood up and walked back into the house.
I heard the door shut and let my shoulders drop.
"Did I just do that," I asked no one imparticular.
I heard the unmistakeable sound of a metal banging into metal as I flew toward the source of the sound.
'What hell is going on in this house today'
As I flew I heard the faint sound of a glyph forming. I turned the corner and saw Weiss flying across the room. Before her was a possesed armor set.
"Sister," I yelled.
"Don't," she yelled as she pushed herself up off the floor.
I stood dumbfunded.
"Why," I yelled.
"I have to do this alone," she yelled back.
"For your information, I am doing well, I am on my way to completing the last of Father's tasks."
"This is his task," I yelled.
'She can do this'
"Yes," she yelled back.
"This is rediculus," I yelled.
"I don't care," she yelled as she soared through the air using a glyph before slicing through the armor.
The armor feel to the ground as it slowly lost its ghostly color. As she turned and looked at me I noticed the blood covering her left eye.
"Your bleeding," I said as I ran to her.
"I'm fine," she said.
"Then why isn't it healing," I snipped as I looked around the room for something to wipe the blood up with.
"I dont know," she said.
"Come here," I said as I pulled her toward a table with a white table cloth on it.
"What are you doing," she asked.
I didn't respond, instead I ripped part of the table cloth off and began dabbing the blood off her face with it. She winched as I felt the cut on her forehead.
"That's going to leave a scar," I said.
"You're lying," she said.
"Sister no one is going to say a thing about it with that rapiar on your waist," I said.
"But Father-
"Will point it out then let you send your application to Beacon," I interuped.
"So - ahh - why did you come here," she asked through gasps.
"Well for one, because I wanted to tell you that Mother is going to be talking us to dinner, and two, the sound of metal clanging isn't exactly a sound you here often inside this house," I answered appling less pressure to lessen her pain.
"She said," she said.
"Yes, and no she didn't sound drunk in the slightest," I said answering her next question.
"Hmm... when," she asked.
"I'm going to assume a little bit after her and I are done sparing," I answered.
"You and Mother and going to spar," she asked.
"Yes," I answered.
"And you're sure she wasn't drunk," she asked.
"Yup," I answered as I finally cleared off the blood.
"That's... good to hear," she said.
"I know, maybe she's finally getting better," I said optimistically.
"Maybe," she said, the doubt clear in her voice.
"Please Weiss, dont be so doubtful, people can change," I said.
"Can they really," she asked.
"I'm going to say something that you're not going to like ok," I said.
"Fine," she said.
"Look back at who you were lets say... 7 years ago," I said.
"Ok," she said.
"Would you be able to stand in a room with that little girl for an hour," I asked.
Silence.
"Weiss," I said.
"No I couldn't," she answered.
"You see, you've changed," I said.
"Yeah, I guess I have," she said.
"So I need to get changed for this spar," I said as I stepped away from her.
"Yes you should do that," she said.
"Good luck with this," I said as I saw Jacques enter the room.
I left quickly not wanting to deal with his antics.
"Boy," Jacques said.
"Yes sir," I said.
"I need to speck to you for a minute," he said.
"Now," I asked.
"Yes now," he said.
I walked over to him and stopped a few feet from him.
"Yes sir," I asked.
"Are you aware of the letter you received," he asked.
"Yes sir," I answered.
"Would you mind telling me how James knows so much about you," he asked.
"It is possible that he took into account our travels in the mountains, and made the sensible assumption that my skill improved to a acceptable level," I answered.
"And how do you assume that," he asked.
"Because we had to fight off hordes of grimm," I answered.
"You need to prove it," he said.
"The letter is not enough," I asked.
"Are you talking back to me boy," he said in what was ment to be a threatening tone.
"No sir just stating a fact," I said.
He raised his hand to strike me. I closed my eyes to give him the idea that his threat scared me in some way.
'Please, please make my day'
But the hit never came. I opened my eyes to see him standing their unmoving, but he wasn't looking at me, no he was looking past me. I turned around to see my mother was standing in the doorway, with her weapon in hand and dressed in an outfit I had only seen in the pictures James and showed me.
"What exactly are you doing Jacques, and why is my daughter bleeding," Mother asked in a dangerous tone.
"You be proud of your daughter, she can go to Beacon now, and all it costed was a small wound," Jacques answered sweating bullets.
"Klein," Mother yelled.
"I've got it ma'am," Felix said, running into the room with a first-aid kit.
"Thank you Felix," Mother said.
Felix ran up to Weiss and opened the kit.
"Now you haven't answered my second question," Mother said.
"He talked back to me," Jacques said.
"Not what I heard," Felix said.
"Quiet freak," Jacques said.
'Say that one more time'
"What did you here Felix," Mother asked.
"I won't lie Whitley did respond like a smartass, but when Jacques asked him for proof of his skill, Whiltey told him the letter should be proof enough," Felix answered.
"When you said you wanted Weiss to prove herself, I let you decided what she needed to do, that was a mistake," Mother said.
"What," Jacques asked.
"If I had known she would be put in a situation where she could receive serious physical harm, I would have made the choses myself, as such I will decide what Whitley needs to prove," Mother answered.
"But you have touched your weapon in years," Jacques said.
"Get the hell out," Mother said.
"But-
"Get... Out... Now," Mother interrupted.
"Fine," Jacques said walking away.
"Thank you Mother," I said.
"Felix can you please take Weiss to her room," Mother asked.
"Yes ma'am," Felix said as he led Weiss away.
"I'm sorry, I got interrupted no my way to my room," I said.
"It's fine," she said.
"May I go grab my clothes," I asked.
"Of course," she answered.
"Thank you," I said.
"Before you go, are you sure you wish to spar with me," she asked.
"Of course I want to," I answered.
"Ok," she said softly.
"I'll be back in a moment," I said.
"Meet me in the courtyard," she said.
(Time Skip brought to you in part by the author finally getting off his ass and writing)
As I walked out of my room the idea to try and speck to Weiss hit me like a truck.
'I will be her brother even if its the death of me'
As I walked toward her room I heard the faint voice of Winter inside of her room.
"What did he do," Winter yelled.
"Winter, keep your voice down," Weiss said.
I walked closer and grabbed the door handle.
"Winter please don't yell," Felix said from inside the room.
I twisted the handle and pulled the door open.
"Yes, because I don't think I can take Father's heat off her again," I said as I entered.
"Whitley," Weiss said.
"Hello, figured I'd come and ask you again if you're ok," I said.
"I'm fine thank you," Weiss said.
"Good to hear, well I best get going," I said as I walked back out of the room.
'Whitley wait," Winter called out.
"Yes," I said as I walked back into the doorway.
"Why didn't you ask me for help with training," Winter asked.
"Because you always have your hands full," I answered.
"That doesn't mean I can't make time," Winter said.
"I am perfectly capable of using the internet to find training videos. Weiss needs your help far more than I do," I said.
"Still," Winter said.
"There is no still, if I truly needed your help all I would need to do is call you at an appropriate time, but I never did," I said.
"That's not fair Whitley," Felix said.
"What part," I asked.
"She's your sister, she's allowed to want to help you no matter what," he said.
"Excuse me Whitley," Klein said from behind me.
"Oh sorry," I said as I stepped to the side.
"I came as soon as I could, I was caught up with teaching the new maid," Klein said as he took Felix's place.
"You're fine Klein," Weiss said.
Klein began to examine the cut which was still bleeding.
"Sorry to intrude on your conversation, but you make yourself out to be a very approachable person Whitley; even though I know this to be false," Klein said.
"What does that have to do with the current conversation," I asked.
"I'm just making you aware that your sisters remember the snotty version of you," Klein answered.
"Wait when was I snotty," I asked.
"Before you disappeared," Klein answered.
"That was 7 years ago," I said.
"I am aware," Klein said.
"Ok I need to go," I said, getting a little frustrated.
"Yes, your Mother most likely just finished her warmup," Klein said.
I turned to smoke and flew out of the window.
POV - Felix
"When did he learn to do that," Winter asked.
"What part," I asked.
"The part where he can go through solid objects," Winter answered.
"He didn't, he went through the cracks around the window," I said.
"Oh, that makes sense," Weiss said.
"Yes, he has a very interesting semblance doesn't he," Klein said.
"Yes, yes he does," I said.
"Why didn't he get glyphs," Weiss asked.
"I have no idea," I answered.
"It could be any number of things," Klein said.
"Like what," Weiss asked.
"Well just because a family has a hereditary semblance, doesn't mean a child is guaranteed to have that semblance. Semblance, much like aura, represent a person," Klein answered.
"But Whitley isn't that shady," Weiss said.
"Well that statement is true, some semblance's manifest themselves out of the need of the person," Klein said.
"I guess he had to hide a lot when we was in the mountains," Weiss said.
"Yo-you think he hide," I asked.
"Well of course, how else would he have survived," Weiss answered.
"Do you really not talk to him," I asked.
"Felix," Winter interpreted, "That's a bit uncalled for don't you think."
"I only say this because he has tried to talk to you, both of you really, so many time, but you both brush him off," I said.
"What," Weiss asked.
"Do you not see him, or hear him for that matter, trying to talk to you after Jackass yells at you," I answered.
"Who," Weiss asked.
"Your father, I refuse to call him Sir unless I'm speaking directly to him," I answered.
"Oh," Weiss said.
POV - Willow
'I wonder if he changed his mind'
"Sorry," I heard Whitley say as he floated down next to me.
"You're fine," I said.
"So how would you like to start," he asked.
"Let's start light," I answered.
"What does that mean," he asked.
"No semblances," I answered.
"Alright," he said.
"Ready yourself," I said.
"I am ready," he said.
"You don't look the part," I said.
"I am aware," he said.
'Interesting'
"Ready... set...
I charged at him hoping to catch him off guard. In responce he quickly backstepped avoiding my rapier. In the blink of an eye Whitley had his weapons drawn and was readying a strike. I twirled on my feet as the blades barely missed my chest.
'Ok so he definitely has the speed to match a junior huntsman, and most get faster during their time at a academy'
Whitley dropped his blades to his side as he grabbed the chains that attached to the hilts of each blade. He flicked them forward dragging the baldes across the ground as he began to spin the blades fast enough to make a ring of fire appear on each side of them.
"How do you do that," I asked.
"The blades are imbued with fire dust," he answered.
"I've never heard of that before," I said.
He pulled his arms back and took a step forward. Following the step he through his arms forward as to massive rings of fire came charging at me. The one on the right reached me first, so I deflected the attack to the left. The second reached me right after, I tried to deflect it as I did the last but it stayed strong. After a second the ring exploded in a spectacular fashion. Whitley gave me no rest as he quickly took advantage of my momentary stun and leaped in for an attack.
'Ok so he's really fast'
I lifted my rapier to block the attack but he saw it coming from a mile away. He quickly changed his downward strike, into a horizontal blade vortex aiming to strike my side.
And strike it did.
I was thrown across the courtyard like a child's doll. Landing hard on the ground I slide a few feet before stopping.
"Too much," he asked.
"No that was perfect," I said as I pushed myself up off the ground.
"How am I doing,"he asked.
"You are more than ready," I answered.
"For normal training," he asked.
"No, for the Academy," I answered.
"Really," he asked, with the same facial expression of a child being told it can get the toy it wants.
"Yes really," I answered.
In an instant Whitley dissolves into smoke before flying toward me. He reformed infront if me and pulled me into a tight hug.
"Thank you mom," he said.
'He called me mom... not mother's
I felt a small tear roll down my cheek as I returned the near bone crushing hug. I looked at him and realized that he towered over me.
"Whitley," I said.
"Yes," he replied.
"How tall are you," I asked.
"I'm pushing 5'11," he answered.
"I've missed so much," I said as I let my head rest on his shoulder.
"Well you seem to be on the right track now," he said.
"Yeah, I guess I am," I said.
POV - Felix
"Did he just win," Weiss asked.
"Yup," I answered.
"How," Weiss asked.
"He won because he's an amazing fighter," Winter answered.
"But he's so... so... I don't know," Weiss said.
"Informal," I said.
"Yeah," Weiss said.
"Sometimes less formal or elegant fighting is what makes people better fighters," Winter said.
'Or being one of the greatest vigilantes who was trained by the two deadliest clans on Remnant'
"And he doesn't fight for style points, he fights to win," I said.
"I fight to win as well," Weiss said.
"Yes you do, but you also make a show of it," I said.
"I guess I should get myself cleaned up for our date," Winter said.
"Need any help," I asked.
"That depends, are you offering," Winter answered.
"I'm right here you know," Weiss said.
"Oh sorry," Winter said, her face flushed a bright red.
"I'm not," I said.
"You should be," Weiss said.
"Watch me," I said as I pulled Winter into a deep kiss.
She froze up in response to my kiss until she slowly melted into it.
"Eww," Weiss said as she looked away.
This seemed to get Winter's attention as she quickly pulled herself out of the kiss. Her face reached new levels of crimson before she sped out of the room.
"You know I love her," I said.
"Yes," Weiss said.
"Then I guess I should ask you about this too," I said as I reached into my back pocket.
"Ask me about what," she asked before freezing up.
"I want to marry Winter," I said.
"Why are you asking me," she asked.
"Because she's your sister and I want to know that you are also ok with it," I answered.
"Well I have no reason to tell you no," she said.
"Thanks kid," I said.
"Don't call me that," she said.
"Sure thing," I said.
I put the ring box back into my pocket before I made my way out of her room.
