Nemona and Maria were looking over the intact part of the railings. "Is he okay?!" Maria asked, as Sabre could be seen on the ground, seemingly passed out, but no sight of the Pokémon, at least the ones on his team he'd walking around with but he was around 15 feet away from a red quadrupedal dragon. Shortly after they see Corvisquire was soon seen descending down with Eevee and Froakie on its back. "Oh there's his pokémon. Good they're safe." Maria sighed with relief.
Nemona stares in awe, "What is that Pokémon?" She asked, using her black roto-phone camera to see up close to see the feathered scales of the rough-n-tumble looking dragon. It was breathing but seemingly unconscious.
"It's clearly a Dragon type" Maria pointed out as she zoomed in with her purple cased roto-phone. "You know? Both of those dragons kinda look like Cyclizar." She also mentions.
"So, like a cave-mon version of Cyclizar?" Nemona asked, to clarify. As Nemona's battle studies grades are 99% but most of her other grades and general knowledge would be closer to 55%, meaning that a lot of concepts such as regional variants and convergent species, went over her head often.
Sabre got up, and looked as his pokémon flew down, guarding him from the potential threat of the dragon. "Hey guys it's okay I think it's hurt." Sabre says looking at the Pokémon's injuries, pulling out some potions and a sandwich, when the sandwich comes out, the dragon perks up enough to weakly beg for the food, with a low powerful growl. "You want this?" He asked the dragon. He fed the dragon, tossing his lunch into its open maw. It perked up standing up to walk on the black middle two toed hind legs. The dragon looks at Sabre before scooping him and his entire team and began hopping up the cliffside as the trainer and his 3 pokémon hollered in a panic. As it made the first 2 leaps Sabre was in shock at how fast this monster just scooped him up like he weighed nothing. Each bound was filled with the physical strength this strange pokémon possesses.
When the dragon got back to where they'd collided with Sabre it dropped the young man on his hind end, "Thanks for the lift buddy." Sabre says, still in awe of the majestic pokémon towering in front of him. The dragon then wavered as he shifted into a quadrupedal stance, resembling a Cyclizar, a popular ride pokémon in the region. "What is this thing?" He thinks to himself as he picks himself up and as the creature looks and spotted the lighthouse in the nearby distance, it begins running towards it with Sabre dashing to catch up, as he possesses a near superhuman level of speed. He makes it there, tying the pokémon as both skid to a halt. In front of the door to the lighthouse a young man about 15, with shoulder length gray-blonde hair, a little bit taller than Sabre, he had his school uniform pants, long sleeve shirt with sleeves rolled up to elbows, his school vest, a set of brown hiking boots, with a heavy-duty camping backpack with a sleeping bag on the bottom with covered pots and pans on his shoulders. The boy turned to look at the 3 trainers and the paradoxical pokémon.
"YOU!" He shouts and charged forward, Sabre braces himself, Maria yelps, Nemona got out her poké ball to battle. "KORAIDON! WHY ARE YOU HERE!?!" The tall boy rages at the pokémon.
Sabre stands between the boy and Koraidon, apparently the name of the pokémon, "How do you know this pokémon?" Sabre asked.
Nemona steps up, "Wait your mom is Professor Sada? She's the researcher of extinct pokémon from era's past." She says, pausing to remember his name. "Arven is your name!"
"Yeah, and this is my mother's pokémon. I don't want it, so this saves me space in my bag." He pulls out a poké ball with a special soft meadow green. "Here, this is it, before I hand it over to you I want you to battle me first to make sure you're up to the task. By the way, what's your name? I forgot to ask earlier." He says a bit awkwardly.
"Okay! I'm Sabre and I accept your challenge!" They get into position with them both preparing their poké balls, "1v1!" Sabres tells Arven.
"Sounds good. I choose you! Skwovet!" Arven sends out the normal type squirrel pokémon. "You're up!" The rqsh young man informed his opponent.
"I choose you, Corvisquire ! Aerial Ace!" He instructed the bird pokémon to strike.
"Quick Attack to dodge!" Arven orders.
"Wait, I don't think Aerial Ace can be dodged," Nemona says to Maria.
"Oh yeah he failed battle studies twice because he used rental pokémon he didn't do well with, glad to see he got one of his own." She states, as the squirrel dashed away before being struck in the side.
"Now use Bullet Seed!" Arven orders.
"That won't be very effective…" Nemona chimed in again, as 2 of the 5 seed clusters landed and did very little in comparison to the Wing Attack Sabre ordered as he had his pokémon finish the battle in that swooping strike.
"I guess I have no choice but to let you have this poké ball. Here." Arven tossed the poké ball to Sabre, who promptly returned the pokémon to the strange green ball."I guess she let you go too huh?" He muttered under his breath. "I'll be going now!" He runs towards Mesagoza.
"So weird his mom is a famous researcher, but he can't battle very well." Nemona says in a judgment free matter-of-fact kind of way.
"You really are a battle crazed loon, aren't you?" Sabre asked the girl who just snapped her head like a pet Maschift who heard the treat bag shake.
"Did you say you wanted to battle?" She inquired not hearing anything but battle.
"It's fine, don't worry the academy pretty well knows she's like this." Maria sighs.
"Now let's go find you a pokémon to catch so you'll have 4!" Nemona says to Sabre.
"I would like to get to the dorms first if that's okay?" Sabre asked. "So how about this? I have a guess that pokémon game on my phone, I'll set it to a list of pokémon you know are in here, and then if I find it I'll catch it. Deal?" Sabre shakes showing his phone screen so she can select the list.
"Okay! Deal! If you do catch it though I want to be your first battle with that pokémon!" She smiles, sending the phone back to be already doing a roulette wheel of the list, it stops on Wooper.
"Wooper, but aren't they normally blue?" Sabre asked, looking at the brown with purple gills.
Maria puts her hand up. "Paldean Wooper are Ground/Poison type, they have evolved to deal with pollution in the mucky area's along with a survival method against the large number of grass types in the region." She explains.
"Okay, so I'll need to find a Paldean Wooper?" But then I'll hold off on any more pokémon until the treasure hunt, then I'll have a rotation of 10-11 by the end of this for the Paldean League's 10 round tournament known as, The Mosaic Conference." He explains happily. "I just want to have battles with strong opponents!
"To enter you have a few options." Maria says. "Every year students of the Academy who compete 5 units worth of course work with battle studies included you'll be entitled to enter free of gym badges. You get credited for it, but for 2 badges you need 1 less course. There are also alternative badges that will be accepted, which are different poké athletic competitions, held in Mesagoza. But you need to get 1 gym badge as there are only 7 events. And finally the gym's. Obtaining all 8 badges will get you in, normally there are a few free spots as 1,024 trainers is a hard number to get to so more often than not gym leaders, teachers and other guests will fill up the last slots." Maria explains as they prepare to take a 3 hour detour to attempt to get a Wooper.
The 3 made it to South Province: Area One. They see a large mud bog that clearly would be a paradise for the brown axolotl pokémon. He sees a group of 5 Wooper, "Okay Froakie, you're up!" Sabre sends his frog pokémon out, "Aerial Ace!" Froakie flies towards the center Wooper who is the largest by far, towering 3 4th's of a head or more over the other potential targets. Froakie landed back on her feet with a slight sky blue aura about her. "This must be that Protean ability." Sabre observed. Wooper hopped up, immediately glared at Froakie with a furious face.
"Woop-Wooper!" The leader ordered the subordinates to stay out as they run off a feet feet out of the way. Wooper fires a Gunk Shot at Froakie dodges bounding at the opponent to use Ice Punch, the sky blue aura chilled to an icy blue one. Wooper used Stomping Tantrum in a fit of rage the move was boosted from the frustration of missing do Froakie was knocked back rolling around. "Aerial Ace!" Froakie flew forward again before swiftly striking the foe in the back of the head, knocking the Wooper flat on its face so Sabre could send a poké ball flying at the pokémon. The ball encapsules Wooper, shakes 3 times, and then finally clicks.
"I caught a Wooper!" Sabre holds the ball up triumphantly as he just caught his first paldean pokémon.
Nemona and Maria clap for him, "I'll call us a flying taxi directly to the school." Nemona says picking up her phone and ordering one to come to them on the app.
"So my school life I'd about to begin!" Sabre was looking at the cab coming and blocking the glare of the sunset. "Oh wow. You guys don't use Corviknight?" Sabre asks.
"No, we had issues when an invasive species took hold of paldea an severely decreased the Rookide family population. They fire rocks in the air to knock them out of the sky and build their hammers or for their pre-evolutions." Maria tells him as they step into the cab.
The flight took 25 minutes to get them to the school. After which Nemona took Sabre to his dorm around 10pm. Sabre walked into the single room. "So you and me have the same first class, since you're a battle studies student your first day is an assessment of your pokémon, to get a passing grade you need each pokémon to beat 1 pokémon each in a few test battles." Nemona explained, "I'm so jealous! Not only willnew rival battle other people but I can only participate in one battle!" Nemona sighed, "Okay good night I'll see you in class!" Nemona says leaving.
After Nemona left Sabre receives a call from an unknown person. "Hello?" He answered.
"You're Sabre yes? I'm Professor Sada, the original owner of Koraidon, the dragon pokémon you found. I'd like to thank you for finding and caring for them. I'm currently unable to care for them and would ask you please take care of Koraidon as a traumatic battle left the poor thing terribly weak and it'll take an unknowable amount of time to heal fully so please watch over them for me?" She asked him if he agreed with an affirming grunt. "Great, I'll be sure to allow it to be your ride pokémon to not interfere with your travel team. Thank you again and if I discover anything to fix the issues Koraidon faces I'll be sure to tell you." She says before quickly hanging up, Sabre shrugs before he looks at koraidon's poké ball.
Sabre sets his poké balls on the desk in the corner. He then just opts to go to bed and get to breakfast first thing. Getting himself ready for bed he then takes some vitamins for restful sleep and has his normal dream-free sleep.
After Sabre woke up he puts his school uniform on with the short sleeve faded blue, collared button-up t-shirt and long orange pants with black running sneakers. He packs his poké balls with him noticing the 12 spaces on the wall above the desk to put poké balls. Seeing a card that says, "Students may have no more than 18 pokémon while enrolled. These are box spaces for you to store your pokémon in stasis until you use your phone to transfer while out." Sabre reads aloud. "Okay, so… Normal, Flying, Water, Poison, I could have 18 pokémon so 18 types, I think we'll try to have at least 1 of each type, maybe even more with double types?" Sabre says to his encapsulated team.
Sabre headed down to the breakfast hall at 6:30 to eat with his pokémon. In the breakfast hall it's free for all students as food is covered in tuition. All food styles, curry, sandwiches, pizzas, pastas, pastries you name it, can be found in the cafeteria machines. Sabre goes to grab 4 bowls and inputs his pokémon's info into the options and each has a specific blend of pokémon food dispensed in the needed form and serving size. Froakie and Corvisquire had small pellets with their specific flavors showing in the light yellow-green of Corvisquire's and the purple speckled chestnut brown of Froakie's. Sabre went to a different dispenser for Wooper, who had a moss green pulpy sludge in his bowl with it coming from a nozzle rather than pellets. Finally, Eevee had a personal Lechonk pâté in a stack of 4 thinly pressed patties, with gravy poured over them. After giving his pokémon their food. He got his plate when he noticed he was being watched by at least 2 different parties. He looked around to see Arven looking at him while pretending to study between 2 books.
The other is a black haired boy with a long high ponytail who seemed like there was an issue. Sabre just chooses to ignore him and grab his pancakes and hot moomoo milk chocolate.
After eating he returns his pokémon and goes to the student store to pick up some supplies for his outing for the weekend. Power bars, bottled water, and he sees a special of 3 dusk balls for 1000. He takes it along with a 20 super potions. After he pay he turns to see out in the foyer there were students who posted flyers for a 'Team Star' he shrugged and went to the battlefields where a track was around a field that held 4 dirt battlefields with each having metal ground level borders that hold the colored dirt a different colored chalk was mixed into the dirt of each field. green in the northwest, blue northeast, white in the south west, and dark brown on the southeast.
Nemona was already there, on the green battlefield having Fennekin train with Pawmi as her 2 weaker members in the party. When she sees Sabre, she stops and waves at him, "Sabre! Have a battle with me!" She invites him over to battle.
He's about to take her up on it, when a voice calls out, "Not so fast! I know you've battled him before so let me have a turn!" The black haired boy from earlier. "I'm gonna battle him. As the last transfer student it's only right. I'm Klaus Sterling, from Castelia City. Pleased to meet you!" The boy was in the same uniform as Sabre.
"Sure, let's have a battle." Sabre smiles.
"3 on 3, that's all I have, but no substitutions." Klaus tells Sabre who nodds.
A new voice calls out, "Normally you have to ask for permission, but I'll allow it." The voice is Dendra, the battle studies teacher. Looking at Sabre "So since you were challenged I'll offer you 2 things, 1. A reward of the rest of the day off today and 2. You can choose which of these fields we can change from plain dirt, to elemental. Rock on brown, ice on white, grass on green, and finally water on blue."
"I pick rock." Sabre says happily getting this perk. Dendra hits a button on her phone and the dark brown dirt field sunk down and was replaced by a rock field with a dozen boulders were fused to the rocky floor, Sabre and Klaus stood at opposite ends and send their first pokémon, Sabre sends out Eevee and Klaus sends out Pawnyard.
"Eevee go start with Dig!" Sabre orders the silver fox pokémon to burrow into the ground.
"Use Swords Dance!" Klaus orders Pawniardto raise its attack. Eevee uppercuts the steel type with the ground type hit and deals fair damage.
"Use Payback!" Pawniarddeals double damage dark type revenge strike at Eevee who is sent back a few feet but still over 50% health.
"Eevee use Swift!" Sabre orders a star flurry that crashed into the knife handed dark/steel type. Pawniarduses Metal Claw, "Avoid it with Dig!" Eevee tunnels under again to strike Pawniardto finish the battle with that finishing blow.
Dendra sticks her left arm up, "Pawniardis unable to battle, Eevee is the winner! 1 point to Sabre!" She announced.
Klaus returns his defeated pokémon. "Go Axew!" The tiny dragon stomped around ready to fight. "I won't lose again!" Klaus declared.
Sabre sends out Wooper, "Let's go Wooper! Gunk Shot!" Wooper blasts a stream of sludge at axew who takes the hit but fires a Dragon Rage back that hits Wooper hard enough it wouldn't likely be able to handle a 2nd one from the dragon.
"Go use Crunch!" Klaus tells the dragon to chomp on Wooper who fires a light beam at Axew, stopping Axew who launches a Dragon Rage and knocks Wooper out.
Dendra sticks her right arm out, "Wooper is unable to battle! Axew is the winner. 1 point goes to Klaus. The score is tied 1-1!"
"Go!" Both trainers send out their final pokémon, Corvisquire and Tinkatuff. The bird and hammer gremlin were glaring at each other.
"Slam!" Tinkatuff swings her hammer, leaping with the momentum.
"Hone Claws!" Corvisquire dodges and sharpened his Claws and focus. "Now Drill Peck!" Corvisquire soared right into the hammer before knocking Tinkatuff's weapon out of her hands.
"No! Her hammer!" Klaus says.
"Double Hone Claws Corvisquire!" Corvisquire Boosts his attack and accuracy, as Tinkatuff retrieved her hammer.
"Tinkatuff use Heavy Slam!" The hammer wielding pokémon swung down at Corvisquire who held his position in the air. "Power Trip!" The bird struck the falling pokémon with dark type 6 lvl's boosted strike.
A dust cloud hides the result, Nemona, Dendra, Sabre and Klaus all await the outcome. Meanwhile Arven was watching him with Director Clavell. "I think he'll do just fine for the task you mentioned to me, it should do both of you some good." Clavell tells Arven.
