Sofia The First - Life of the Cast

Chapter 2

A cloudy Friday morning finds a bored out of her mind Kate sitting outside in the lobby of Madeline's agent, playing a game on her phone, while simultaneously listening to podcast.

Soon she was startled out of her daze by a lap full of Madeline as the young child came bursting out of the office, glad to be out of the boring meeting, talking about some other kid wanting the lead role and somehow convinced the director to have a competition to see what one was suited for the role.

Kate tried to fake interest in what her sister was saying but lately she was finding herself unable to find joy in being with Madeline or their parents, instead she felt nothing but bitterness, sadness and...jealousy.

She felt ashamed for having these feeling, but she couldn't shake them and soon she stopped caring and slowly but surely started to distant herself from them, spending more and more time walking Ginny or spending time with her friends, trying avoid having to go home as much as possible.

Madeline seemed oblivious at first by the sudden change, but whenever she went to find Kate she was always busy or with friends.

"Katie? Can you please help me with my lines?" Madeline asked peeking her head inside the room only to find it empty.

Pouting a bit she decides to explore her sister's room, which has recently become off limits to Madeline, much to the young actress's dismay as she was normally allowed to wait in her sister's room sometimes when she went on her daily walks.

But this time was different as Madeline spotted Kate's diary peeking out from between her mattress.

Curious to know more about her big sister's abrupt change in behavior, she quickly squashes down the sense of guilt as she carefully pulls out the diary and opens it to the most recent entry.

'Dear Diary, I had another dream about Mac the guy from that lame pizza arcade place, how the sounds of his voice makes my insides shiver, his back and chest covered in tattoos shining slightly from his sweat soaked skin, his eyes piercing into mine as he leans closer to me.

But I unfortunately wake up before anything happens and I am soon waken by the sounds of my bratty and spoiled sister, Madeline running around, while I hear the 'rents talking and preparing breakfast, gods I can't stand this anymore, I can't wait until I am old enough to move out and away from the shadow of Madeline the star.

Sometimes I wonder if they would care if I disappeared and never came back, probably no-'

The diary was ripped out of her hands as she looks into the livid eyes of Kate.

Madeline eyes widen with both fear and shame as she tried to explain.

"Kat-" but was swiftly cut off by Kate screaming.

"SHUT UP! YOU ARE NOTHING BUT A SNEAKY AND NOSY, SPOILED BRAT! GET OUT!" causing the younger girl to book it out of the room and make a beeline for hers, but as soon as the door slammed shut, the horrid words began playing like a broken record in her head as she slide down to the floor, sobbing

She could hear Mom and Dad talking Kate who was still angry if her shrill screams were any clue, but at some point she heard the sound of a door slamming shut.

With some difficultly a worn out Madeline got up from the floor and threw herself onto the bed, falling into a light snooze that was anything but restful as she kept remembering the words her sister said and after a while she decided to go wait outside Katie's room and apologize, so she got up and went down the hall to where her sister's room was.

Meanwhile Katie was busy venting to her long time school friend, Eve on facetime, she was sort of an older sister to Katie even though they were in the same grade at her school, Eve was very mature for her age, she was tan skinned beauty with striking violet gray eyes and short layered black/green hair.

After Kate was done speaking, that is when Eve started to speak.

"I know that what Madeline did was wrong, but you shouldn't have said those things to her." Eve states.

Katies grimaces before saying "She's just so annoying sometimes I wish she was gone from my life for good."

Eve tsked before saying, "You are just angry and saying things you don't mean."

Katie rolls her eyes a little annoyed, "That's easy for you to say you have no idea what's it like to have an annoying little sister."

Just then Eve started to cry, which alarmed Katie.

"Eve! Are you okay? Why are you crying?!" Katie asked concerned.

Eve quickly gains her composer, roughly wiping her eyes before she turns her red eyes and said in a hollow tone.

"Actually, I do, you see I never told you this but do you remember me taking time off school for a few months back in 3rd grade?"

Kate nodded curious.

"Well...I have a sister, named Abby, but I haven't seen her in 6 years."

Kate eyes widen in shock at the admission.

"You see, I was about 9 years old, Abby was about 6, and we were always fighting about something, it drove our parents crazy at times, but then one day I was so busy arguing with Abby that I didn't hear them leave after talking with Grandma, who broke up the fight and prepared dinner for us and let us watch a movie, at some point we both fell asleep on the couch, only to be awoken by Grandma who appeared to be really upset, a police officer was standing beside her, his eyes were filled with sympathy and sadness as he broke the news about our parents death, apparently they were on their way to a important office party at my Mom's work, when they were t-boned by semi-trailer truck killing them instantly. I was shocked and lost for a long time afterwards, I barely kept it together during the funeral as Abby wailed her heart out.

Afterwards we stayed with our Grandma for a while, but it was only temporary since she had too many health problems to care for us probably, we were to soon taken and put in the foster system, at first we were kept together in most of our foster homes, but suddenly one day a really nice couple was looking to adopt Abby, when she asked about me, I came up with a quick lie and reassured Abby that she would be okay and that I loved her, since that day, I never saw her again, a few weeks later I went back to my Grandma permanently. Ever since that day I held a lot of regret for all those years of pointless arguing, now I have no parents and a sister who I might never see again."

Katie was stunned before saying in a shaky voice.

"My gods, that is awful and here I am complaining about my own petty issues, when you went through something much worse."

Eve just sighs before saying firmly "It's fine, well not fine, I just don't like to talk about it too much."

An awkward silence fell between them, until Katie decided to break it.

"Do you know where Abby currently living?" Katie asked

Eve shakes her head, "I have tried to look for her, I would ask my social worker about her but I was met with half hearted answers and dead ends, it didn't help that ever since the children center burned down, all the records were lost and as far as I know she could have changed her last name or moved away."

"There has to be away to find her, don't you have an app or something that could help you find her."

Eve groans before snapping, "Even if I did, I doubt she would remember me, for all I know I am just the sister that she always argued with to her, for all intense and purpose I am dead as our parents."

Katie just stayed silent watching as Eve sighs heavily and said tensely, "I have to go my Aunt needs me, go talk to Madeline and for all that is good, apologize, see you tomorrow."

Without another word the screen went black, Katie sighs and gets up to go find Madeline, when she opens her door, the very person was sitting outside her bedroom door, she felt a stab of guilt when she saw the tear tracks still on Madeline's face, but really hurt was the look of fear and sadness still lingering in her eyes as she looks up at Katie briefly before bowing her head avoiding all eye contact.

Kneeling down to the child's level her heart hurt when Madeline flinched and shrank away a bit as she sat down beside her.

"I am sorry, Maddie. I shouldn't have yelled at you." Katie said her eyes bright with unshed tears.

"I am sorry too, Katie I shouldn't have snooped." Madeline said softly.

With some hesitation Madeline leans into Katie's side, only to sigh in relief as Katie wraps her in a one armed hug.

"So...is Mac your boyfriend?" Madeline asked a sassy smile gracing her face only to run as the teenager tries to playfully tackle her, Katie gave chase, soon the cloud of tension lifted from the house to by replaced by squeals of laughter.

Ever since the whole diary incident, Katie and Madeline were close once more, but Katie did have a talk with Madeline about it and the younger girl did understand why she reacted the way she did and promised to not snoop again and Katie silently vows to not let her own issues with their parents taint her relationship with Madeline.

Their parents were for the most part were oblivious about it and were just glad to see Madeline smiling instead of crying.

But that all changed when Madeline came onto the set to work on the first episodes of Sofia The First, she was greeted by the director.

"Good morning, Madeline are you ready for your first day?" He asked.

Madeline nods, but soon that smile with wiped away when she caught sight of her rival. Sarah Cozbi, a girl around her age, who happened to one of many staff members kids that studied and worked on set.

But their history goes back further then that, you see Sarah was and still is Madeline's bully and enemy when they were in regular school, before Madeline started acting and Sarah was homeschooled.

Madeline remembers how Sarah always played dirty to get what she wanted and didn't care who she hurt in the process.

Julie notice the dark look on Madeline's face towards Sarah, who she knew to be very sneaky and a liar, so she goes over and wraps her arm around the the smaller girl's shoulders and brings her over to the snack table where her twin brother Jake was stuffing his face.

"I see that you live up to your character's endless needing to stuff your face." Julie said with a look of disgust as Jake just shrugs at her and gives Madeline brief glance before walking off towards their shared dressing rooms.

"Does Jake not like me?" Madeline asked curious about the girl's brother coldness towards her.

Julies sighs and said "My brother is like that with everyone, besides our parents and me, don't take too personally."

While normally Madeline knew that people didn't always like you, at first she was bothered by the fact that her on screen brother only barely tolerated her presence.

Deciding to confront Jake about his behavior, she walked towards where the dressing rooms were located, she could voices coming from inside as she got closer.
