Everything ached and she could smell smoke, Beth realised as she felt the car come to a rest on its side. She had no idea what had happened but her head was bleeding and she could feel Adam's weight against her. She blinked back tears as she tried to move her left arm realising her shoulder was dislocated she gasped as Adam groaned next to her.

"Come on." She heard Adam swear as he regained consciousness. "We have to get out of here." She nodded as the pain seared through her.

"Adam?"

"Yeah?"

"I can't move." Beth whispered. "You get out of here. Go." She paused as she felt the heat from the engine begin to intensify. Sirens could be heard in the distance as Adam unclipped his seatbelt.

"No, we got here together. I am not leaving you." He stated firmly. He undid her seatbelt as she gasped in pain. "Come on, Beth." He kicked the door open she could feel her head pound as he kicked the door a second time before it gave way. "Move."

"Can't."

"Bullshit." Adam snapped as he half dragged her out of the car as the car caught fire. Dragging her to the relative safety of the tarmac he started shaking uncontrollably as the car exploded.

Tariq froze for a second as the sound of the explosion filled the air. He knew the car Beth and Adam had been travelling in had been pushed off the road. He had no idea how anyone could have got out of the car alive. The shock and fear that had gripped him when Malcolm had been shot had hit him again. He snapped his attention back to what was happening as he heard Calum take charge, ordering an ambulance and fire engine to the scene. Dimitri grabbed his jacket as Zoe called his name.

"I'm going down there."

"Not on your own." Zaf called as he called after him. "My best mate is in that car. I need to know what to tell his wife." He marched through the Pod doors as Alec swore before heading out after them just as Harry and Ruth appeared back on the Grid. Catherine swore as she called them both over to her. She knew she had to tell them what was happening and just hoped Ros and Lucas were having better luck chasing the bullet that had hit Malcolm.

"You serious?" Natasha sipped her tea as she watched Alec.

"Yeah. You are stuck with me until the person who tried to kill Malcolm and threatened you and Ruth is dealt with."

"Dead you mean."

"If it comes to that." Alec stated. "You know being a sleeper is dangerous."

"And I know its important and not as bad as what you lot do." She looked at the brown drink in her mug. "You make crap tea."

"I know." He paused. "Used to lace it with vodka. Makes it easier to tolerate."

Natasha raised an eyebrow, not knowing if he was being serious or not. "You were living with the woman in the video. Dark haired older bird. How do I know you are not working with her now? How do I know its not you that is behind all this?"

"Because I'm not."

"Oh that decides it, then." Natasha rolled her eyes, still not sure she was able to trust the man sat opposite her. She knew Harry trusted him and for that moment it would have to do.

Beth lay on the tarmac floor clearly dazed as the paramedics arrived. Adam coughed on the acrid air as he realised he was more injured than he had originally thought. He just hoped Tariq was able to trace the car that had forced them off the road. Beth groaned as she was lifted onto a stretcher and oxygen placed over her face.

"Her shoulder is out and I reckon her left ankle is stuffed." Adam stated as the paramedics nodded.

"We'll get her into the ambulance. Get some painkillers into her." The red haired woman stated. "Any allergies?"

"Dunno. She had brain surgery a few years back." Adam held his ribs. The paramedic nodded.

"You?"

"I'm fine."

"Yeah? And I'm from Narnia." The Scottish accent caught his attention. Adam smirked. "Get in the ambulance before you end up being carried in there too."

Adam did as he was told, a testament to how awful he felt. He turned sharply as he heard Zaf call his name. Dimitri ran towards them as the paramedic turned to Adam.

"Her fiance." Adam explained as a second ambulance appeared. Fire crews worked to put the fire out as Zaf ushered Adam towards the arriving ambulance, worried as his friend seemed to need to lean on him as they walked. Dimitri jumped in the back of the ambulance with Beth just as the paramedic placed monitoring electrodes on her. Beth opened her eyes as she heard the familiar voice just before her back arched and eyes rolled to the back of her head. The paramedic immediately started chest compressions as Dimtiri called her name.
