Amity's intro
Water. Earth. Fire. Air.
Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed her most, she vanished. A hundred years passed, and me, Willow and Gus discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Luz. And although her airbending skills are great, she has a lot to learn before she's ready to save anyone.
But I believe Luz can save the world.
The episode opens in a forest. King is chasing a bug through the trees. In his pursuit he lands on the ground to see a neatly stacked pile of lychee nuts. When he runs toward it, King is pulled into the air by a cage trap, joining two other caged animals. Camera changes focus to find the rest of Team Avatar camping.
"Where's Momo?" Luz asked ( Camera zooms in to a close-up shot of Luz, Amity, Gus, Willow and Eda, the group were sitting next to each other with bored faces, and Luz standing with her back to the camera. King screeches and the gang looks around.)
Camera fades to find Luz as she spots the three animals in their cage traps hanging by rope on tree limbs.
"Hang on, King!" ( Luz uses her airbending to fly to the top of the tree, jumping from trunk-to-trunk to get higher. She finds the traps' mechanisms, undoes them, and carefully lowers King to the ground where Amity, Gus, Willow and Eda are waiting. They open the trap together and the demon dog runs out with one of the lychee nuts in his mouth. Amity, Gus, Willow and Eda look on as King gets on his hind legs and eats it as though nothing has happened. Willow grunts in frustration and facepalms. When Luz lands, she looks up to see the other two animals seemingly crying out to her for help.) "All right, you too." Luz said ( Jumps up to them.)
"This is gonna take forever." Willow said ( Throws her boomerang to simply cut the animals free.)
( Inching her way upside-down to the traps on the tree branch. They fall before she can reach them.) "That works." Luz said
The hog monkeys run up the tree and out of the camera's view and Luz jumps back down, dirt flying from the ground as she lands. Everyone gathers around two of the traps and Amity kneels down to examine them.
"These are Fire Nation traps," ( Camera zooms to an upward shot of the gang looking at the trap.) "you can tell from the metalwork. We better pack up camp, and get moving." Amity said
They gather their things and begin to pack them onto Appa's saddle.
"Uh uh. No flying this time." Willow said
( Confused.) "What? Why wouldn't we fly?" Luz asked
( Takes the sleeping bag from Luz's hands.) "Think about it, Somehow Commander Lilith and the Fire Nation keep finding us. It's because they spot Appa, he's just too noticeable." Willow said
"What? Appa's not too noticeable!" Gus said
( Points dramatically at Appa, condescendingly.) "He's a gigantic fluffy monster with an arrow on his head! It's kinda hard to miss him!" Willow said ( The bison yawns and the camera flashes to Luz and Amity sitting comfortably on the animal's head.)
( To Appa.) "Willow's just jealous 'cause she doesn't have an arrow." Luz said
( Camera closes in on Gus, Willow and Eda next to each other.) "I know you all wanna fly, but my instincts tell me we should play it safe this time and walk." Willow said
( Leans forward at his friend and smiles.) "Who made you the boss?" Gus asked
( Points her finger at her chest, to Gus.) "I'm not the boss, I'm the leader." Willow said
( Amused.) "You're the leader? But your voice still cracks!" Amity said making Luz chuckle
( Chuckles a bit turning to Willow) "your voice cracks?" Eda asked
( Voice cracks.] "I'm the oldest of the other three, and I'm a warrior, so" ( Deepens voice.) "I'm the leader!" Willow yelled
( Close-up shot of Gus's face.) "If anyone's the leader, it's Luz. I mean she is the Avatar." Gus said ( Pan back to Willow.)
"Are you kidding, she's just a goofy kid!" Willow yelled while pointing at Luz
( While hanging upside-down from Appa's right horn with feet sticking out in the air making Amity chuckle from seeing.) "She's right." Luz said
"Why do you always think someone has to be the leader? I bet you wouldn't be so bossy if you kissed a boy." Gus said only to receive a small boulder on his foot by Willow making him wince in pain trying to move the boulder off his foot
( Close-up on Willow, defensively.) "I've kissed a boy, you just haven't met him." Willow said
( Back to Willow.) "Who? The training dummy back home? We've all seen it." Amity said making Luz laugh out loud
( Throws arms into the air.) "No! Besides the training dummy. Look, my instincts tell me we have a better chance of slipping through on foot, and a leader has to trust her instincts." Willow said
( Sarcastically.) "Okay, we'll try it your way, oh wise leader." Gus said only to be pushed over by the boulder Willow lifted up and into him
( Luz steps over, now wearing a backpack. King is sitting on the top.) "Who knows? Walking might be fun." ( Cut to the forest at a later time. Between trees the group trudges along, with Willow in front, followed by Luz and King, Amity, Gus, Eda and Appa.) "Walking stinks! How do people go anywhere without a flying bison?" Luz asked
( Sarcastically.) "Well I don't know, Luz. Why don't you ask Willow's instincts? They seem to know everything." Amity said
( Sarcastically.) "Ha, ha, very funny." Willow said
( Complaining.) "I'm tired of carrying this pack." Gus said
"Your not the only one" Eda said agreeing with Gus
"You know who you should ask to carry it for a while? Willow's instincts." Amity said ( Willow's eyes turn to her in irritation.)
"That's a great idea. Hey, Willow's instincts, would you mind-" Luz didn't get to finish
( Annoyed.) "Okay, okay, I get it. Look guys, I'm tired too. But the important thing is that we're safe from the" ( Walks through a bush and sees something in front of her.) "Fire ... Nation." Willow said in disappointment
Willow sees a Fire Nation campsite with a lot of soldiers; most of them are seated or crouched near the fire with bowls in hand and a couple of them sit close to the tents, which have the Fire Nation emblem on the door flap. One of these soldiers has a patch over his left eye. They all notice the group and get up.
"Run!" ( They turn to run but a firebender blocks them off by setting the plants behind them on fire.) "We're cut off!" Willow said in panic
"Willow, your shirt!" Luz yelled ( Willow yells in panic, Gus clears a fire on Willow's shirt with waterbending.)
"If you let us pass, we promise not to hurt you." Willow said
( Whispers.) "What are you doing?" Amity asked
( Whispers.) "Bluffing?" Willow asked
( Whispers.) "Not sure it's working" Eda said
" You promise not to hurt us?" The Eye-patch Soldier asked ( He's somehow knocked out.)
"Nice work, Willow! How'd you do that?" Luz asked
"Uh, instinct?" Willow wondered
( Points up a tree.) "Look!" Amity said
In a tree, a man with hook swords jumps and takes down two soldiers. He runs forward and takes down two more using his hook swords.
"Down you go." The man said ( Amity and Gus looked amazed, Luz and Eda shocked, and Willow confused.)
Another soldier charges at the man, but he is defeated.
"They're in the trees!" the Fire Nation Soldier said
A young boy lands on top of the soldier and turns his helmet around to blind him, before riding him around while laughing. Another boy launches arrows at the soldiers while more boys come out of the trees. Luz, Amity, Gus and Eda are shown fighting the soldiers. Willow holds up her boomerang and yells as one approaches her, but stops when the man takes him down first.
"Hey, he was mine!" Willow yelled
"Gotta be quicker next time." the man said
Willow looks dismayed and the camera cuts to show a huge boy fall out of the trees and easily take down two soldiers as the man skillfully takes down one more, causing this soldier's weapon to hit another soldier, who was going to battle Willow, in the head, making that soldier also fall down.
( Angrily.) "Man!" Willow yelled
The man disarms another soldier and runs up to Amity.
"Hey." the man said
"Hi." Amity said
They look around to see a now empty camp
( Amazed.) "You just took out a whole army almost single-handed." Luz said
( Disdainfully.) "Army? There were only like twenty guys." Willow said
"My name is Ket, and these are my Freedom Fighters, Sneers, Longshot, Smellerbee, The Duke, and Pipsqueak." Ket said
( Laughing, looking at The Duke.) "Ha, ha, Pipsqueak, that's a funny name." ( The Duke sniffs his nose, as the camera pans upward to Pipsqueak.)
( Looming over Luz in a threatening manner, in a low, growling tone of voice.) "You think my name is funny?" Pipsqueak asked
( Side-shot, Luz looks taken aback for a second before replying in an upbeat tone.) "It's hilarious!" Luz said with a nervous smile
Facial shot of Pipsqueak, still looming forward with a frown on his face. He suddenly starts laughing. The camera moves back, showing Luz and The Duke following suit. Pipsqueak pats the Avatar on the back in a friendly manner, though the hit was hard enough to knock Luz flat on the ground. The Duke stops laughing and looks down at Luz sprawled on the ground before her feet, face flat in the dirt, though when Luz raises her head and continues laughing, so does The Duke.
The scene fades to the Fire Nation camp, and the camera cuts to show the Freedom Fighters raiding the empty camp.
( Approaching Ket.) "Umm, thanks for saving us Ket. We're lucky you were there." Amity said
"I should be thanking you. We were waiting to ambush those soldiers all morning, we just needed the right distraction, and then you guys stumbled in." Ket said
( Eyeing Willow.) "We were relying on instincts." Amity said without knowing Willow is giving her a stern look
"You'll get yourself killed doing that." Ket said
Willow looks at them disdainfully as The Duke and Pipsqueak look through the barrels.
"Hey Ket, these barrels are filled with blasting jelly." The Duke said
"That's a great score." Ket said
"And these boxes are filled with jelly candy!" Pipsqueak said
"Also good, let's not get those mixed up." Ket said
"We'll take this stuff back to the hideout." The Duke said
"You guys have a hideout?" Luz asked
"You wanna see it?" Ket asked
( Very excitedly.) "Yes, we wanna see it!" Amity said with excitement as Eda tried to slow her down but was dragged along
Ket smiles at her and the camera fades to show them standing on the forest floor.
"We're here." Ket said
"Where? There's nothing here." Willow said
"Hold this." Ket said ( Gives a rope to Willow.)
( Skeptically. While putting Gus' hand through the noose) "Why? What's this do?" Willow asked ( Both she and Gus scream as they are pulled up into the branches.)
"Luz?" Ket asked ( Offers Luz another rope.)
"I'll get up on my own." Luz said ( Leaps up into the trees with airbending.)
"I'll take it" Eda said taking the rope and was lifted up into the branches yelling in delight
"Grab hold of me, Amity." Ket said while grabbing another rope
Amity blushes as she takes his hand and they rise up through the tree together in a romantic setting. They come to a landing on a wooden platform in the trees. Once up there, Luz and Gus are seen zip lining through the trees while Eda is writing notes down about the hideout.
( While passing through with King.) "Nice place you got!" Luz yelled in excitement
"It's beautiful up here!" Amity said in amazement
"It's beautiful ... and more importantly the Fire Nation can't find us." Ket said ( Smellerbee lands near the two.)
"They would love to find you. Wouldn't they, Ket?" Smellerbee asked
"It's not gonna happen, Smellerbee." Ket said
( As Luz and Gus zip by again.) "Why does the Fire Nation want to find you?" Eda asked
"I guess you could say I've been causing them a little trouble. See, they took over a nearby Earth Kingdom town a few years back." Ket said
"We've been ambushin' their troops, cutting off their supply lines, and doing anything we can to mess with 'em." Pipsqueak said ( Willow is now seen comically hopping around trying to get past Pipsqueak.)
"One day, we'll drive the Fire Nation out of here for good and free that town." Ket said
"That's so brave." Amity said ( Willow manages to get by Pipsqueak.)
( Sarcastically.) "Yeah, nothing's braver than a guy in a tree house." Willow said
"Don't pay any attention to my friend here." Amity said
"No problem. She probably had a rough day." Ket said
"So, you all live here?" Amity asked ( Willow who is being ignored comically sinks back behind them.)
"That's right. Longshot over there?" ( The screen cuts to Longshot and The Duke walking without making a sound.) "His town got burned down by the Fire Nation. And we found The Duke trying to steal our food. I don't think he ever really had a home." Ket said
"What about you?" Amity asked
( Amity and Ket come to a halt as the rest pass.) "The Fire Nation killed my parents. I was only eight years old. That day changed me forever." Ket said
"Our friend Gus lost his mother to the Fire Nation." Amity said
"I'm so sorry, Amity." Ket said
The screen fades from the two of them alone on the suspension bridge to the blue sky above the canopy. A cloud of cawing birds is disturbed as Appa raises his head with a roar. In the hideout, ropes with lanterns hang between branches. Sentries keep watch on several upper platforms while the group sits at a banquet table. While the group eats, Ket stands on the table.
"Today, we struck another blow against the Fire Nation swine." ( Everyone cheers. Luz, Amity, Gus and Eda smile while Willow cops an attitude and a scowling face.) "I got a special joy from the look on one soldier's face, when The Duke dropped down on his helmet and rode him like a wild hog monkey." ( The Duke, without his helmet, climbs up the table. He marches on the table with his arms in the air.) "Now, the Fire Nation thinks they don't have to worry about a couple of kids hiding in the trees." ( He prepares to take a drink from his wooden cup.) "Maybe they're right." ( A very loud and long boo is heard, with an angry face.) "Or maybe ... they're dead wrong." Ket said ( A loud and long cheer is heard.)
"Hey Ket, nice speech." Amity said
"Thanks. By the way, I was really impressed with you, Luz, Gus and Eda. That was some great bending I saw out there today." Ket said
"Well, she's great. She's the Avatar. [ Blushes.] we could use some more training." Amity said while Luz and Eda looked at her in confusion
"Avatar huh? Very nice." Ket said
"Thanks Ket." Luz said
"So I might know a way that Luz, Gus and Eda can help in our struggle." Ket said
"Unfortunately, we have to leave tonight." Willow said ( Willow starts walking away.)
"Willow, you're kidding me! I needed you on an important mission tomorrow." Ket said ( Willow turns around.)
"What mission?" Willow asked
The scene changes to the top of the forest the next day. Ket and Willow are in branches of the same tree. Ket cups his hands and makes a bird call, several trees down Pipsqueak and Smellerbee step into view from their branches. They reply with another bird call. Willow jams her jawbone knife into the trunk of the tree
"What are you doing?" Ket asked turning to Willow
"Shh ... It amplifies vibrations." Willow said
( Impressed.) "Good trick." Ket said
( Willow puts her ear to the handle of her knife.) "Nothing yet." ( Whispers.) "Wait! Yes, someone's approaching." Willow said
( Whispers.) "How many?" Ket asked
"I think there's just one." Willow said
( Does another bird call.) "Good work, Willow. Ready your weapon." Ket said ( Willow takes her knife out of the tree. Her eyes spot an old man.)
( Whispers.) "Wait, false alarm ... He's just an old man." Willow said waving her arms
Ket ignores Willow and prepares to attack the old man, leaping to the ground in front of the traveler. Willow watches with horror.
"What are you doing in our woods, you leech?" Ket asked
"Please sir, I'm just a traveler." the Old Civilian said
Ket takes a step, and with one swipe, sends the man's cane flying from his hand. The old man backs away, but when he tries to flee the way he came, he runs face first into Pipsqueak's chest. The force of the impact knocks him to the ground; Pipsqueak looms over him. He tries to crawl away, but Pipsqueak's foot on his backside effectively pins him.
"Do you like destroying towns? Do you like destroying families? Do you?" Ket asked
"Oh ... Please let me go ... have mercy …" the Old Civilian pleaded
"Does the Fire Nation let people go? Does the Fire Nation have mercy?" Ket asked
Ket is about to kick the man, but stopped in place by a wall of rock rising up by surprise in front of him, making him look back to see Willow in a battle stance with her left arm raised. Willow lowers her arm, collapsing the rock wall.
"Ket, he's just an old man!" Willow yelled
"He's Fire Nation! Search him!" Ket yelled ( Pipsqueak holds the prisoner and Smellerbee steps up to search the poor man.)
"But he's not hurting anyone!" Willow said
"Have you forgotten that the Fire Nation killed your friend's mother? Remember why you fight!" Ket said
"We've got his stuff, Ket." Smellerbee said ( She holds up the old man's bag. The old man is thrown back on the ground.)
"This doesn't feel right." Willow said
"It's what has to be done, now let's get outta here." Ket said
Ket pushes past Willow. Pipsqueak and Smellerbee follow. Willow looks at the old man still on his hands and knees in pity.
"Come on, Willow!" Ket said
Willow slowly turns and runs to catch up with the others. At the hideout, Luz, Gus and King are playing with the ziplines again. Luz leaps near Willow.
"Willow! Look what the Duke gave me!" ( Luz is wearing a bag and pulls a small pellet from it. With a sly grin, she tosses it next to King, where it explodes with a pop. King puffs up like a startled cat. He hisses and lunges for the bag. King sits on Luz's shoulder and tosses several pellets at her feet. Luz dances wildly in panic.) "Ow! Quit it!" Luz exclaimed in pain
Willow is oblivious of it all. She's sitting with her back to the trunk and staring at the ground, glaring. Amity and Eda walk up.
"Hey, Willow. Is Ket back?" Amity asked
"If he is, I wanna ask him more about his hideout" Eda said
"Yeah he's back. But we're leaving." Willow said
"What?" Gus asked
"But I made him this hat." Amity said ( She shows a cap made out of stitched leaves with a flower on top.)
"Your boyfriend Ket's a thug." Willow said
"What? No, he's not." Amity said
"He's messed up Amity." Willow said
"He's not messed up, he's just got a different way of life, a really fun way of life." Luz said
"He beat and robbed a harmless old man!" Willow said
"I wanna hear Ket's side of the story." Eda said ( The scene changes to Ket in a room.)
"Willow, you told them what happened, but you didn't mention that the guy was Fire Nation?" Ket asked
Ket is sitting on a hammock-bed, the others stand. Willow stands grumpily as far away as she can get. Luz is wearing the hat Amity made, she looks ridiculous and goofy.
"No, she conveniently left that part out." Amity said
"Fine! But even if he was Fire Nation, he was a harmless civilian!" Willow yelled
"He was an assassin, Willow." Ket said
Ket pulls out a knife and thrusts it into a nearby stump. It is a sinister looking curved blade. There are four spikes evenly spaced along the grip, with enough space for fingers to go between them. There is a ring on the butt of the knife.
"See? There's a compartment for poison in the knife." ( He pulls on the ring and removes a small glass tube filled with red liquid.) "He was sent to eliminate me, you helped save my life, Willow." Ket said
"I knew there was an explanation." Amity said
"I didn't see any knife!" Willow said
"That's because he was concealing it." Ket said
"See, Willow? I'm sure you just didn't notice the knife." Willow said
"There was no knife! I'm going back to the hut and packing my things." ( Willow stomps away.)
"Yeesh, how does she have so much anger for an earthbender?" Eda asked
"I've asked myself that many times before, it's best not to question it" Gus said
"Tell me you guys aren't leaving yet. I really need your help." Ket said
"What can we do?" Luz asked
"The Fire Nation is planning on burning down our forest. If you both use waterbending to fill the reservoir, we could fight the fires. But if you leave now, they'll destroy the whole valley." Ket said
Luz, Amity, Gus and Eda look at each other. Fade to them entering their hut. Willow is tying up a mat on the floor.
"We can't leave now with the Fire Nation about to burn down a forest!" Amity said
"I'm sorry Amity. Ket's very smooth, but we can't trust him." Willow said
"You know what I think? You're jealous that he's a better warrior and a better leader!" Gus said only to be pulled in by Willow grabbing the collar of his shirt
"Gus! I'm not jealous of Ket. It's just that my instinct—" Willow didn't get to finish when Amity pulled Gus away from her
"Well my instincts tell me we need to stay here a little longer and help Ket. Come on guys." Amity said
"Sorry, Willow." Luz said
"We'll catch up when we're done helping Ket, he'll need it" Eda said
They leave the hut. Fade to the night sky above the canopy. A full moon shines on Appa, who is on his back and snoring extremely loud as he sleeps. Inside the group's hut, Willow sleeps propped up against her still-packed gear while the others sleep in their sleeping bags.
"Let's go." Ket said
Willow wakes up. She pulls the door flap aside enough to see some of Ket's followers descending on the rope lines. Willow grabs a rope line down to a lower branch. On the ground below her, Ket's Freedom Fighters are quietly pushing the loaded wagon as Ket leads them out of the camp. Willow stealthily follows. In the dark valley. Upstream, and up toward the wall of the valley there is an old falls, and beyond that a man-made dam. A bare cliff off to the reservoir's left provides the view. Ket and his Freedom Fighters emerge from the forest. He goes to the edge and looks down on the dam below. The reservoir behind it is low. He turns back to the wagon.
"Now listen, you are not to blow the dam until I give the signal. If the reservoir isn't full, the Fire Nation troops could survive." Ket said ( The Duke jumps off the wagon.)
"But what about the people in the town, won't they get wiped out too?" The Duke asked ( Ket places a hand on The Duke's shoulder.)
"Look Duke, that's the price of ridding this area of the Fire Nation." ( To Longshot.) "Now don't blow the dam until I give the signal—got it?" Ket asked ( Longshot nods.)
Willow watches incredulously from the bushes. She frowns, and hears rustling just before Pipsqueak drags her out by her pig-tails. Smellerbee's knife is instantly at her throat.
( Sneering.) "Where do you think you're going, pigtail?" Smellerbee asked
Ket, standing near the edge of the cliff. As he watches, Pipsqueak and Smellerbee drag Willow between them. Pipsqueak still has a handful of Willow's pig-tails.
"Willow, I'm glad you decided to join us." Ket said [ Pipsqueak and Smellerbee send Willow to her knees. She rubs her shoulder.)
"I heard your plan to destroy the Earth Kingdom town." Willow said
"Our plan is to rid the valley of the Fire Nation." Ket said
"There are people living there, Ket, mothers and fathers and children." Willow said
"We can't win without making some sacrifices." Ket said ( Willow points an accusing finger at Ket.)
"You lied to my friends about the forest fire!" Willow yelled
"Because they don't understand the demands of war. Not like you and I do." Ket said
"I do understand. I understand that there's nothing you won't do to get what you want." Willow said
"I was hoping you'd have an open mind, but I can see you've made your choice." Ket said
Pipsqueak and Smellerbee grab for Willow. Before she can even react, Ket has her wrist pinned with the hooks of his shuang gou. Willow's other hand is forced behind her back.
"I can't let you warn the others." ( Ket releases Willow's hand, it is immediately forced behind her back.) "Take her for a walk, a long walk." Ket said
"You can't do this!" Willow yelled
"Cheer up, Willow. We're gonna win a great victory against the Fire Nation today." Ket said
The screen pans to the riverside upriver from the dam. The collected water behind it is much less than the larger cavity of the reservoir. The river leading to down to it is a thread compared to its 'rainy season' gully. Luz, Amity, Gus, Eda and Ket are seen walking upriver along its west bank.
"Ket, I'm sorry about how Willow's been acting." Amity said
"No worries, she already apologized." Ket said
"Really?" ( Luz and the others stop and look at one another.) "Willow apologized?" Luz asked
"Yeah, I was surprised too. I got the sense that maybe you talked to her or something." Ket said
"Yeah, we did." Gus said
"She wasn't happy about it though" Eda said
"I guess something you said got through to her. Anyhow, she went out on a scouting mission with Pipsqueak and Smellerbee." Ket said
"I'm glad she cooled off. She's so stubborn sometimes." Amity said
They are now walking in the gully, beside the 'river'. Luz pauses after noticing something strange, and is launched into the air by a blast from the geyser she was standing on.
"All right, we're here. Underground water's trying to escape through these vents. I need you guys to help it along." Ket said
"They've never used bending on water they can't see. I don't know …" Amity didn't get to finish ( Ket stands behind her and places his hands on her shoulders.)
"Amity. They can do this." Ket said
( Airbends herself back on the ground.) "What about me?" Luz asked
"I know the Avatar can do this." Ket said
Luz, Gus and Eda stand on one of the many geysers in the gully. While Ket looks on, they bend the water up. After a few minutes, a stream of water emerges from the hole. They pull it to their height and send it toward the river where it continues to flow like a waterfall. The water quickly joins the river.
"Yes! Good job! This river empties into the reservoir--a few more geysers and it'll be full." Ket said
"Look, there's another steam vent." Luz said ( Luz, Amity, Gus and Eda walk off in its direction.)
"Okay. You guys keep it up, I'll go check on things at the reservoir." Ket said ( He turns and walks away.)
"When they're done we'll meet you over there." Amity said
"Actually ... probably better if you meet me back at the hideout when you're done." ( Ket resumes walking away, Luz, Gus and Eda bend the next geyser into another fountain.)
( Later.) "I bet that's enough, and I'm not just saying that to be lazy." Eda said ( Around them, over a dozen geysers flow into the river.)
"Let's catch up with Ket at the reservoir." Amity said
"I thought we agreed to meet Ket back at the hideout?" Gus asked
"Well, we finished early. I'm sure he'll be happy to see us." Eda said
The screen changes to a path in the forest. Pipsqueak and Smellerbee follow Willow, who has her hands tied behind her back. Smellerbee gives Willow a shove, Willow stumbles but remains on her feet.
"Come on, move along!" Smellerbee said
"How can you stand by and do nothing while Ket wipes out a whole town?" Willow asked
"Hey listen Willow, Ket's a great leader. We follow what he says, and things always turn out okay." Pipsqueak said ( Willow notices a couple of snare leaf-piles nearby identical to the one that enticed King, right down to the pile of nuts.)
"If that's how Ket leads, then he's got a lot to learn." ( Willow sprints off in the direction of the snares. Smellerbee makes a grab for her, but misses.)
"Hey!" Smellerbee yelled ( They gave chase. Willow leaps over the leaf piles and stomps the ground making two pointy rocks appear on the other side of the leaf piles. Pipsqueak and Smellerbee jump over the leaf piles, but end up snared and hanging many feet up in the air.)
"While you two are up there, you might want to practice your knot work." Willow said ( She holds up her now-worthless bindings, turns, and walks away.)
"Hey Smellerbee, you gonna eat your lychee nuts?" Pipsqueak asked ( Smellerbee hits him in the head with a lychee nut and it lands in the pile he's holding.) "Ooh." ( He picks one up and licks his lips.)
Luz, Amity, Gus and Eda are standing on the edge of the cliff. At the base of the dam, four of Ket's people are unloading barrels from the wagon and arranging them.
"What are they doing?" Gus asked
"Hey, those are the red barrels he got from the Fire Nation." Luz said
"Why would they need blasting jelly?" Eda asked ( Zooms on Amity, who is horrified.)
"Because Ket is gonna blow up the dam." Amity said
"What? No, that would destroy the town. Ket wouldn't do that." Gus said ( Luz opens her glider.)
"I've gotta stop him." Luz said ( She takes off.)
( Less convinced.) "Ket wouldn't do that." Gus said
Before Luz can reach the edge, Ket crosses her path from behind and snatches the glider. Luz is left wobbling precariously on the edge, and uses airbending to get herself back on stable footing.
"Yes I would." Ket said
"Ket, why?" Gus asked
"Gus, you would too if you just stopped to think. Think about what the Fire Nation did to your mother, we can't let them do that to anyone else, ever again." Ket said
"This isn't the answer!" Amity said balling up her fists
"I want you to understand, fellas. I thought your friend Willow would understand, but—" Ket didn't get to finish when he backed up in fright from seeing a burst of fire coming at him and fell to the ground looking at Amity with her arm stretched out at him with Gus panicking from the reveal while Luz and Eda are shocked from seeing what bender Amity is
"Where's Willow?" Amity asked ( Tears fell from her eyes. Ket stands up, reaches out and touches her face.)
"Amity." Ket said
She lowers her head in sadness, Gus lets out a shout, sending Ket flying with the water from his waterskin. He draws it back into the waterskin when he's done.
"I need to get to the dam." Luz said
Luz's closed glider is on the ground. As she reaches for it, one of Ket's hook swords pins it. Ket has the two swords hook to hook; with a yank he pulls Luz's glider to him.
"You're not going anywhere without your glider." Ket said
Ket swings the swords at Luz. Luz somersaults backward to avoid the extra reach. Luz finishes her retreat in a nearby tree.
"I'm not gonna fight you, Ket." Luz said
( Taunting.) "You'll have to if you want your glider back." Ket said
Luz retreats back into the forest, as Ket hooks the branch and pulls himself up. Amity, Gus and Eda follow on the ground. Ket attacks, Luz defends herself with balls of air, which Ket ducks. Ket attacks head on, but Luz blocks with her arms and sends her opponent flying into a tree trunk with an air kick. Ket combines his swords again and advances. Luz avoids the flail-like move and sends another air blast. Ket stoops down and lets the air flow over and past him before lunging.
They continue the chase through the many levels of the forest. Ket catches up to Luz and sends them both freefalling, attacking as they go. They both end up on a branch. Ket continues his attack. Luz avoids it all. Ket charges again, but Luz hits him with a jetstream of air. Ket falls. He recovers, but loses the glider in the process. Before Luz can get to the ground Ket kicks her into a trunk. She lands with a thud next to her glider.
A small tributary flows past her. Luz is slow to get up. Before Ket can take more than a step however, he is hit by a large water strike. Amity, Gus and Eda are there, Gus and Eda use water from the river to throw Ket against the trunk of the tree. Over and over they attack, Ket is unable to cut the water and its force plasters him against the trunk. They freeze Ket from toe to neck.
"Why, Ket? I can't believe I trusted you. You lied to me, you're sick and I trusted you!" ( A bird call is heard. Luz, Amity, Gus and Eda are startled, and look to the valley beyond where it's coming from. Ket gives an answering bird call.) "What are you doing?" Amity asked holding her open hand close to Ket's face with a flame floating in it
"You're too late." Ket said
( Horrified.) "No!" Gus yelled
Luz opens her glider and runs for the nearby cliff. Her glider's wings are damaged to the point that she has no lift, and slams back into the ground near the edge. Amity runs over to help her.
( In pain from the fall.) "Willow's still out there, she's our only chance." Luz said
"Come on, Willow. I'm sorry we ever doubted you, please." Amity said as Gus and Eda came over
Longshot stands on a branch, his bow pulled. He has a flaming arrow on the string. He takes aim and fires. It arcs down to the base of the dam. Amity watches in horror.
( Whispers.) "No …" Amity said
The center of the dam explodes in a cloud of smoke and fire. Luz, Amity, Gus and Eda watch a massive wall of water go to the town. Inside the town the streets are empty except for the occasional barrels and the Cabbage Merchant's cabbage cart. The water rushes through the open gate, as a cresting wave dwarfs it. The wall and gate are swallowed as the wave strikes the town. The flotsam carried away includes a smiling doll in a purple dress.
"Willow didn't make it in time." Eda said placing a hand on Gus' shoulder as he teared up
"All those people …" ( She turns in rage back to Ket with flame daggers below her fists.) "Ket, you monster!" Amity yelled
"This was a victory, Amity. Remember that. The Fire Nation is gone and this valley will be safe." Ket said
"It will be safe, without you." a voice called out ( In shock, Ket looks up to see Willow, King, and Appa rise from below the level of the cliff.)
"Willow!" Amity said happily as she extinguished her flame daggers
"I warned the villagers of your plan, just in time." Willow said
"What?!" Ket exclaimed
( Cuts to an illustrated set of flashback stills each being panned through.) "At first they didn't believe me. The Fire Nation soldiers assumed I was a spy. But one man vouched for me, the old man you attacked. He urged them to trust me, and we got everyone out in time." Willow said ( The flashback ends and the townsfolk are seen on high ground above the river, on the bank opposite the town. A little girl, who was seen in the flashback, runs down to the water's edge as the doll floats by. She retrieved it.)
( Happily.) "Miss Pretty!" the little girl said happily ( She hugs her doll.)
"Willow, you fool! We could've freed this valley!" Ket yelled
"Who would be free? Everyone would be dead." Willow said
"You traitor!" Ket said
"No, Ket. You became a traitor when you stopped protecting innocent people." Willow said
"Amity. Please, help me." Ket pleaded
"Goodbye Ket." Amity said as she shot a small fireball near Ket's feet making him yelp in fright ( Willow gives Appa's reigns a flick.)
"Yip yip." Willow said ( Ket is left behind, still frozen to the tree.)
The sky they fly in is empty, save a few wispy clouds.
"We thought you were going to the dam. How come you went to the town instead?" Gus asked
"Let me guess, your instincts told you." Eda said
( Shrugs her right shoulder.) "Hey, sometimes they're right." Willow said
"Um ... Willow? You know we're going the wrong way, right?" Luz asked ( Willow is surprised, but quickly recovers.)
"And sometimes they're wrong." ( With a grin, she pulls Appa's reigns. They fly off screen before reappearing, going in the opposite direction.)
"That's a surprise" (Looks to Luz to see she's looking at her with a sad look) "are you okay Luz?" Amity said
"Why didn't you tell me you're a firebender?" Luz asked making Amity rub her arm with worry as Gus and Willow were given a sad look on their faces
"I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to hate me" Amity said leaning back on Appa's saddle
"What makes me more curious is why you're with us instead of in the Fire Nation" Eda said pulling out her notebook
"It's because of the destruction they've done, after seeing innocent people getting hurt by my nation, I ran away and was raised in the Southern Water Tribe with Gus and Willow, I didn't want to be part of their cause. I hope your able to forgive me" Amity pleaded
( places a hand on Amity's shoulder for her to look at her) "it's okay, we all run away from something, I forgive you" Luz said
Amity pulled Luz into a hug which Luz hugged her back as Gus, Willow and Eda smiled from seeing them embrace each other
"I've been wondering why you have that hair band with the Fire Nation logo on it, are you a princess or something?" Luz asked as Eda dropped her notebook in shock
"Princess!?" Eda yelled in shock as her voice echoed through the sky
