Amity's intro
Water. Earth. Fire. Air.
Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed her most, she vanished. A hundred years passed, and me, Willow
and Gus discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Luz. And although her airbending skills are great, she has a lot to learn before she's ready to save anyone.
But I believe Luz can save the world.
The episode opens up to a body of water, waves crashing against the rocks. The camera cuts to grass and sticks, before slowly panning up to reveal a whale tooth scimitar standing upright in the ground. Luz's hand comes into view as she grasps the weapon's hilt and yanks it out of the ground. Cut to a shot of her holding it up while Willow slides down a dirt slope.
"Hey, look!" (Examines the sword.) "A sword made out of a whale's tooth." Luz said
While Luz draws the weapon free from the ground, Willow slides down the slope and pulls up behind the Avatar, snatching the weapon from her hands as Luz turned to show it to her.
"Let me see that." Willow said
Willow walks on for a little while, before she stops, not too far from Luz, to study the weapon closely. Cut to a shot of the scimitar in her hand. The scene switches into a flashback; Southern Water Tribe warriors are preparing their ships, loading them with supplies. The camera pans to the left as a warrior walks past, carrying a bundle, revealing that a younger Willow is observing them, her back to the camera. Cuts to frontal shot of her as she looks at the scene wistfully, cradling her battle club. Flashback fades to present-day, where Willow bears the same wistful expression while holding the whale's tooth scimitar in the same way as her club.
"This is a Water Tribe weapon." (Turns to Luz, her expression now serious.) "See if you can find anything else." Willow said
Cuts to shot of Luz and Willow searching the wooded area for more weapons. Amity, Gus and Eda walk toward them, curious.
(Curiously.) "Did someone lose something?" Amity asked
(Rummaging through the bushes, somewhat cheerfully.) "No, we found something!" Luz said
"Found what?" Eda asked
Cut to shot of a spearhead lying on the ground beneath a few fallen leaves. Willow kneels before it, brushes aside the debris and picks up the spearhead, examining it and running her fingers along its point, noticing ash on it.
"It's burned." (Cut to shot of a tree trunk, scorch marks and sharp cuts running across its bark. Cut to shot of Willow and the others.) "There was a battle! Water Tribe warriors ambushed a group of firebenders." (She turns away from the tree and looks down the slope of the hill seeing a black spot on the ground.) "The firebenders fought back, but the warriors drove them down this hill." Willow said
Cut to shot of Gus and Willow racing down the hill along a dirt path, the camera panning downward. They leaped over a few large rocks in their way and continued forward. Cuts to a shot of a sandy beach. Gus and Willow appear on screen followed closely by Luz, Amity and Eda.
(Intrigued.) "So, then what happened?" Luz asked
(Disappointed.) "She doesn't know. The trail ends here." Gus said
(Pointing at something in the distance.) "Wait, look!" Eda shouted (Cut to shot of a Water Tribe ship, half obscured behind large rocks, sitting idly on the shore.)
(Happily.) "It's one of the Water Tribe boats!" Amity yelled
"Is this dad's boat?" Gus asked (He, Amity and Willow run toward it. Cut to shot of the entire ship as they approach.)
"No, but it's from his fleet." (Strokes the boat off, while Luz and Eda appear behind them.) "Your dad was here, Gus." Willow said (Turns to Gus.)
The scene changes to a close-up of Kaldo sipping a cup of tea, with a relaxed expression on his face.
(Exhaling.) "Aahh!" (Cuts to shot of the entire room where he and Lilith are seated at a low-lying table.) "See Commander Lilith, a moment of quiet is good for your mental well-being." Kaldo said (Pours Lilith a cup of tea.)
Lilith raises the cup to take a sip, but the ship suddenly jerks, the vibrations cause the tea in the cup to go flying, soaking Lilith's face and hair. Lilith grunts in frustration, pushes her hair back, and rises to see what the commotion is about. Cut to the deck of the ship, several firebenders stand poised, ready to attack. A large beast, called a shirshu, suddenly leaps onto the deck, a young woman mounted on its back. The firebenders flee from the beast. Cuts to close-up shot of the woman, who slows down the beast's progress.
"Look out! Argh!" the Firebenders shouted
(Holding a rolled up whip.) "Get back! We're after a stowaway!" the Woman said (Cut to overhead shot of the ship's deck.)
(Arrives with Kaldo.) "There are no stowaways on my ship." Lilith said
Cuts to shot of Nyla, the shirshu, who tears off a chunk of the metal deck flooring and hurls it in Lilith's direction. Alarmed, the commander ducks for cover, the firebenders and Kaldo move to the side, and the metal piece hits the doorway leading to the main compartments of the ship with a clang as they turn around to watch it hit the door. Lilith looks on in frustration while the firebenders and Kaldo take a firebending stance.
Cut to shot of the interior of the ship, a gaping hole present where the metal flooring once was. Nyla sticks his head inside and begins sniffing around. Cut to shot from his point of view, the scenery slightly warped and in black-and-white to reflect how he envisions things. A stream of green is visible, drifting through the air. The camera pans right and left as the beast surveys the entire room. It focuses on a single barrel which topples over, revealing that a strange man has been hiding in there. Cut to a shot above the deck where Nyla raises his head out of the hole. The stowaway appears, dashing away from the scene. Nyla shoots forward in hot pursuit of him. Cut to side-view of the man trying to flee, Nyla appears on-camera and lashes out his elongated tongue. Close-up of the tongue striking the man who falls onto the deck, paralyzed, and with a terrified look on his face.
(Shocked.) "He's paralyzed." Lilith said
"Only temporarily." (Lifts the man and slings him over her shoulder.) "The toxins will wear off in about an hour. But by then, he'll be in jail and I'll have my money." the Woman said (Walks to Nyla.)
"But how did you find him on my ship?" Lilith said
(Prepares to mount Nyla, the stowaway already slung onto his back.) "My shirshu can smell a rat a continent away." the Woman said (Mounts her shirshu.)
"Well, I'm impressed." (the woman cracks her whip. Cuts to a shot of the shirshu bolting off the ship and racing down the dock.) "Very impressed." Kaldo said (Leaning over the ledge of the ship with Lilith, aligning his mask thoughtfully, Lilith looked at him, disgusted.)
The scene changes to that night, the camera panning downward to show that Team Avatar has settled down for the night beside the Water Tribe ship. Cut to shot of Appa. Luz and King are lying on his right paw, all three fast asleep. The camera pans left, showing Amity, Willow and Eda having also drifted off in their sleeping bags. Gus remains awake, poking a stick into a blazing campfire, looking worried. Cut to side-shot of him, the scene fades to the flashback seen earlier. A younger Gus is seen walking by, carrying a large bundle in his arms, wearing face-paint. Cut to a shot of Hakoda standing beside a ship, having handed a bundle to a man in the ship. He turns and walks forward. Cut to a shot of Gus who has halted in his tracks, his father approaching him and standing before his son.
"Gus" Hakoda said
"I'm coming with you." Young Gus said
"You're not old enough to go to war, Gus, you know that. Besides, you were scared when you tried to hold a dagger" Hakoda said
(Desperately.) "I'm strong, I'm brave, I can fight! Please, Dad!" Young Gus said
(Lays a hand on his son's shoulder, grimly and sadly.) "Being a man is knowing where you're needed the most. And for you right now, that's here, to help your friends as the last water bender of the tribe." Hakoda said
"I don't understand." Young Gus said (His eyes glisten.)
"Someday you will." (Sokka throws aside his bag and throws himself into his father's arms. Cut to close-up of him as he sobs and buries his face in his father's parka.) "I'm gonna miss you so much." Young Gus said
The scene fades back to present day, Gus still looking sullenly into the fire. Suddenly a strange noise can be heard, its source originating from somewhere off-camera.
(Alert.) "Who's there?" Gus asked (Stands up, bending some of the water with his hands.)
Cut to a shot of the campsite from several feet away. A pair of boots appears in front of the camera. Cut to shot of a man, hailing from the Water Tribe with white bandages wrapped around the upper left portion of his torso, stepping out of the shadows. He is clearly surprised to see them.
"Gus?" the Man asked
(Quizzically, raising an eyebrow without knowing he stopped bending the water for it to splash onto the others waking them up.) "Bato?" Gus asked (Spirited.)
(Having awoken, along with Amity, Willow and Eda.) "Who the what now?" Luz asked
(Cheerfully.) "Bato!" Amity and Willow said
(Cuts to a side-shot of Bato, Gus running over to him, followed closely by Amity and Willow.) "Gus! Willow! Amity! It is so good to see you three." (Hugs Amity, Gus and Willow.) "You've grown so much!" Bato said (Luz and Eda followed them, but remained standing a few feet away.)
(Bows in greeting.) "Hi, I'm Luz." Luz said
"And I'm Eda" Eda said
"Where's Dad?" Gus asked
"Is he here?" Willow asked
"Is he alright?" Amity asked
"No, he and the other warriors should be in the Eastern Earth Kingdom by now." (the three look crestfallen at this news. A gust of wind blows, causing them to shiver. Cut to a shot of Bato who shivers as well.) "This is no place for a reunion. Let's get inside." Bato said
He turns and slings his arms around Amity, Gus and Willow, leading them away. After a moment, he looks back at Luz and Eda and gestures for them to follow. Cut to an overhead shot of the shore, the campsite in the distance, as the group begins walking away. The scene cuts to a different location altogether, the moon hanging in a purplish-blue night sky. The camera pans downward to show the roof over the entrance to an open courtyard. Cut to a shot inside the courtyard, a few nuns milling about, Appa and the group approaching.
"After I was wounded, your father carried me to this abbey. The sisters have cared for me ever since. Superior," (A woman turns around.) "These are Hakoda's children. They've been traveling with the Avatar. I found them by my boat." Bato said
"Young Avatar, it gives me great joy to be in your presence. Welcome to our abbey." the Mother Superior said
"Thank you, it's truly an honor to be here. If there's anything-" Luz didn't finish (Willow abruptly cuts her off.)
"What smells so good, Bato?" Willow asked
(Sniffs.) "The sisters craft ointments and perfumes." Bato said
"Perfume?" (Pointing her thumbs at Appa.) "Maybe we can dump some on Appa, because he stinks so much." (Waves her hand in front of her face.) "Am I right?" Willow asked (Everyone is silent, a single person coughs.)
"You're lucky you don't have your father's wit, Gus" Bato said
The scene cuts to the hut in which Bato is staying, with a tent on the opposite side of the door being the bed chamber, a fire with cousins in the middle, and various pelts placed and hung everywhere.
"Bato, it looks like home!" Amity said (Bato, Amity, Gus, Willow, Luz and Eda file inside.)
"Everything's here, even the pelts!" Willow said as she put a pelt of a tiger over herself scaring Gus
(Sarcastically.) "Yeah, nothing's cozier than dead animal skins." Luz said feeling nervous from seeing the pelts
King leaps from Luz's arms and starts hitting the head of a bear pelt. The bear's mouth closes, King is alarmed and retreats back to Luz. Amity, Gus, Willow and Eda are by the fire. Amity opens the lid of a pot cooking over the fire as Bato joins them.
(Surprised and delighted.) "No way! Stewed sea prunes! My favorite" Amity said
"Help yourself!" Bato said
"Dad could eat a whole barrel of these things!" Gus said
(Whispers to Luz) "his dad did that before when we were little, Amity ate a whole pot of it when she was little, trust me" Willow said
Luz takes a bowl of stewed sea prunes and sniffs it, but looks away in disgust and sets it to the side.
"Bato, is it true that you and Gus' dad lassoed an arctic hippo?" Amity asked with a full mouth
"It was his father's idea, he just dragged me along. Well, the hippo did the dragging!" Bato said (King, sitting by Luz, starts to eat the stewed sea prunes that Luz set aside, but ends up spitting it out.)
(Amity, Gus, Willow and Eda are slurping their stewed sea prunes as Luz speaks.) "Hey, I ride animals, too! There was this one time when I rode a giant eel and I-" Luz didn't finish
(Cutting Luz off.) "So, who was it that came up with the Great Blubber Fiasco?" Gus asked
(Chuckles to himself.) "You knew about that?" Bato asked
"Everyone does!" Willow said
(Curiously.) "What's that story?" Luz asked
(Waving Luz off.) "It's a long one Luz, some other time." Willow said
(To Bato.) "You and Gus' dad had so many hilarious adventures." Amity said
"Not all of which were hilarious at the time, but everything's funny in hindsight." (Chuckling.) "Hey, Luz! Please put that down," (Luz is shown wearing a fur pelt on her head.) "it's ceremonial and very fragile." Bato said (Luz puts the pelt back on the wall, and sits in the back of the room.)
"Was it you or Dad that put an octopus on your head and convinced Gran-Gran you were a water spirit?" Gus asked
"Your dad wore the octopus," (Lowers his voice.) "but I did the spooky voice." Bato said
The scene cuts to a seedy tavern in the Earth Kingdom. A man is thrown through the roof and lands on the ground. Cut to a snake tattoo on a woman's arm. The camera zooms out, showing that it is the woman's tattoo. She calmly arm-wrestles a man, who gnashes his teeth and sweats. The shot changes to the back of the crowd where Lilith arrives.
(Annoyed.) "Out of my way!" (Pushing a man out of the way.) "Step aside, filth!" Lilith said
(Apologetically.) "She means no offense! I'm certain you bathe regularly!" Kaldo said
Lilith approaches the woman, who is still arm wrestling. Kaldo reaches her as well.
"I need to talk to you!" Lilith said
"Well, if it isn't my new friends, Angry Girl and Mister Lazy." the woman said
Her opponent strains to get the upper hand. Kaldo laughs at her remark and the woman wins her match without breaking a sweat. The crowd cheers and throws money at the winner.
"Your beast trashed my ship. You have to pay me back!" Lilith said
(As she collects her winnings.) "Well, I'd love to help you out, but I'm a little short on money." (To the crowd.) "Drinks on me!" the woman said (The crowd cheers.)
The woman moves to take a sip of her drink, but Lilith grabs her wrist in anger.
"Money isn't what I had in mind." Lilith said
Cut to moths flying around a lantern.
"I need you to find someone." Lilith said (Cut to Gus's necklace.)
Shot changes to show the woman leaning on Nyla while Kaldo and Lilith stand in front of the woman.
(Sarcastically.) "What happened, your boyfriend run off on you?" the woman asked
"It's not the boy I'm after, it's the monk girl he's traveling with." Lilith said
(Unamused.) "Whatever you say." the woman said
"If you find them, I'll consider the damage to my ship paid for." Lilith said
(Scoffs.) "Heh, forget it." the woman said (She starts to climb her saddle.)
"Plus, we'll pay your weight in gold." Kaldo said
(Stops and widens her eyes in surprise. She smiles. Cut to a side-shot of the woman walking over to Kaldo.) "Make it your" (Pokes his stomach.) "weight, and we gotta deal." the woman said
(Laughs with his hand on his stomach.) "You got it!" Kaldo said
(As she turns back to Nyla.) "Get on! By the way, call me June." the woman said
June takes Gus' necklace from Lilith, and shows it to Nyla. The camera shows the surroundings through Nyla's sight. As the shirshu looks around, the colored scents of humans are shown. Nyla soon finds Gus' purple scent on the necklace, and the threesome head off. The scene changes to an aerial shot of the abbey, and cuts to inside Bato's room.
"There's something I should tell you kids. I'm expecting a message from Gus' father." Bato said (Luz is shown with her eyes closed, excluded from the group.)
(Excited.) "Really?" Gus asked
(Slightly demanding.) "When?" Willow asked
"Any day now. Gus, your father said he'd send a message when they found the rendezvous point. If you wait until the message arrives, you can come with me, and see your father again." Bato said
Luz looks toward her friends with a sad and worried look.
"It's been over two years since I've seen Dad. That would be so incredible! Guys!" Gus said
"I've never met him before, but it would be great to meet your Dad." Eda said (Luz gets up to leave, but no one notices her.)
"It's been far too long, hasn't it?" (As Luz leaves.) "I'm not sure when word will arrive, but when it does-" Bato was close to finishing what he was saying
Luz closes the door and heads toward the abbey gate. Cut back to inside Bato's room.
"It would be great, but we can't. We have to take Luz to the North Pole first." Amity said
"Even if we do have time to wait for the message, who knows how far we'd have to travel. We don't have time for a long detour." Gus said
"I'm sure your father would understand, and be proud that his son and his friends are helping the Avatar." Bato said
The scene cuts to footprints on the beach at night. The camera pans upward to reveal Luz sitting on the bow of Bato's boat.
"I can't believe they would leave me." Luz said
An ostrich horse can be heard coming. A messenger arrives.
"I'm looking for Bato of the Water Tribe." The Messenger said
"Uhhh, I know Bato!" Luz said
"Make sure he gets this!" The Messenger said (Hands Luz the scroll and rides away.)
Luz curiously unravels at the message, finding that it is actually a map.
"It's the map to Gus' dad!" Luz said
Luz's curious look changes to frustration as she crumples the map and stuffs it inside his clothes. Shot changes to a further distance of Luz sitting on the boat. Cut to an aerial shot of the abbey. Cut to a door which Luz opens.
"Hey everyone! Sorry I was gone so long." Luz said
(Turns to face her.) "Hey, Luz, I didn't notice you left." Gus said
"Yup, but now I'm back." (Sitting down.) "Sure could go for some delicious sea prunes!" Luz said nervously
Luz quickly takes some bites of sea prunes, but chokes them back up, yet she pretends to enjoy them. Amity, Gus, Willow, Eda and Bato look at her strangely. The scene changes to the herbalist's home that Luz visited to find a cure to Amity, Gus, Willow and Eda's sickness in the past. Nyla growl can be heard, to which Miyuki hisses. The herbalist turns around to find Nyla, June, Lilith, and Kaldo.
"Out for a bit of fresh air, are we?" the Herbalist asked
"We're looking for someone." Lilith said
"I hope it's not Miyuki" (To Miyuki.) "Miyuki, did you get in trouble with the Fire Nation, again?" the Herbalist asked (Miyuki meows.)
"The Avatar's been through here. Let's keep moving." June said
Cut to an aerial shot of the abbey. The shot changes to show Luz airbending a pile of hay to Appa. As she finishes her form, the map falls out of her sleeve.
"Aha! I caught you." (Picks up the crumpled paper as Luz looks at her nervously.) "You should be ashamed of yourself ... Littering in the courtyard." the Mother Superior said
(Takes back the crumpled paper.) "I'm sorry, I'll take care of this." Luz said (Bows. As Mother Superior walks away, Luz stuffs the map back up her sleeve.)
The scene cuts to Bato's ship the next day. Luz, Amity, Gus, Willow, Eda and Bato are seen walking toward it.
"This ship is sentimental to me. It was built by my father." Bato said
Luz looks down at the ground, noticing the tracks from the messenger's ostrich horse are still visible. She airbends the sand to cover the tracks and whistles nonchalantly. Luz walks up to Bato.
(To Bato.) "Is this the boat he took you ice dodging in?" Gus asked
"Yep! It's got the scar to prove it. Ha. How 'bout you Gus? You must have some good stories from your first time ice dodging." Bato said (Gus begins to look saddened.)
"He never got to go. Dad left before he was old enough." Willow said
"Oh, I forgot you were too young." Bato said
"What's ice dodging?" Luz asked
"It's a rite of passage for young Water Tribe members. When you turn ten, your dad takes you-" (Bato smiles and puts his hand on Gus' shoulder with a new thought.) "You know what, you're about to find out!" Bato said
June, Lilith and Kaldo followed Gus' trail to the Makapu Village. As citizens flee from Nyla in terror, he stops in front of Aunt Wu's shop. Wu remains outside her shop, completely calm.
(Annoyed.) "Why are we stopping?" Lilith asked
"Because one of the boy's friends must have spent a lot of time here." June said
"We have no time for this!" Lilith said
Lilith gets off Nyla and hangs the necklace in front of his face. Nyla appears agitated and he snaps at Lilith, who swiftly ducks down.
"Hey! Watch it!" Lilith said
(As Kaldo laughs from behind her.) "Oh look, he likes you!" June said
Aunt Wu approaches Kaldo, still calm.
"Care to hear your fortune, handsome?" Wu asked
"At my age, there's really only one big surprise left, and I'd just as soon leave it a mystery." Kaldo said
The threesome leave on Nyla, and the scene cuts back to Bato's ship, which is now sailing close to shore.
"Ice dodging is a ceremonial test of wisdom, bravery, and trust." (Shot changes to on the boat.) "In our village, ice dodging was done by weaving a boat through a field of icebergs." Bato said
"How are we supposed to ice dodge without ice?" Gus asked
"He has a point" Willow said
"You'll be dodging those." (Points to a group of tall, sharp, jagged rocks near the shore. Amity, Gus and Willow appear nervous.) "Gus, you steer and call the shots, lead wisely. Amity and Willow, you two secure the main sail." (Amity and Willow grab a rope.) "The winds can be brutal, so be brave. Luz, you control the jib. Without your steady hand, we all go down. Your position is about trust." Bato said
(Blinks. Defensively.) "I know that. Why wouldn't I know that?" (Folds her arms.) "I'm the Avatar, I know about trust." Luz said (She crosses her arms and looks away, but gives Bato a second glance.)
"For this to be done right, Eda and I cannot help." (He and Eda sit cross-legged at the front of the boat.) "You pass or fail on your own." Bago said
(Studies the rocky shores.) "Luz, ease up on the jib. Amity and Willow, steady." (Amity and Willow look at the shore with concern.) "Luz, less sail. Amity and Willow, give them room." (The ship moves to the side and sails between some rocks.) "Luz, helm to lee. Helm to lee!" Gus shouted
"What does that even mean?" Luz asked
The waves knocked Eda and Bato around. Gus struggles while Luz, Amity and Willow closed their eyes. The shot changes to show the boat passing between more rocks.
"Great job!" Gus said
Luz, Amity and Willow smile. Aerial shot of the boat heading toward a large bundle of rocks.
"There's no way through!" Amity said
"And I can't bend those rocks out of the way! I need rocky ground to do it!" Willow said
"We can make it. Amity, take over!" Gus said (heads to the side of the boat with Amity heading to the wheel of the boat in panic)
(Stands up and grabs the side of the boat.) "Gus, you've already proven yourself. Maybe we should-" Bato didn't finish
"Luz, I'm gonna need air in that sail." (Luz nods.) "Amity, Willow, you two keep a strong grip on where you're at. I'm going to bend as much water as I can between us and those rocks. Now!" Gus shouted
Gus bends the water below the boat while Luz fires airbending blasts at the sail. Amity and Willow groans nervously as the boat clears the rocks. When they reach clear water, Gus sighs and relaxes. The rest of the group smiles at him. Fade to an aerial shot of Bato's boat beached on the shore. Shot changes to Bato carrying a small cup of purple paint.
(Dips his fingers in the paint.) "The spirits of water bear witness to these marks. For Gus, the Mark of the Wise." (Uses his thumb to put an arc and small dot on Gus' forehead.) "The same mark your father earned. For Amity and Willow," (Uses his thumb to put a crescent moon mark on Amity and Willow's forehead.) "the Mark of the Brave. Your courage inspires us." (Using his thumb to put an arc on Luz's forehead.) "And for Luz, the Mark of the Trusted. You are now an honorary member of the Water Tribe." Bato said
"Well done, kiddo" Eda said
"I can't." Luz said (Looks down.)
"Of course you can!" Amity said
(Rubbing off her mark and backing away.) "No, you can't trust me." Luz said
(Concerned.) "Luz, what are you talking about?" Amity asked
(Takes the crumpled map out of her sleeve.) "A messenger gave this to me for Bato." (Willow takes it from her.) "You have to understand. I was afraid you would-" Luz didn't finish
(Angrily.) "This is the map to my father! You had it the whole time? How could you?" (Luz shrugs her shoulders.) "Well, you can go to the North Pole on your own. I'm going to find Dad." Gus said (Walks away.)
"Well, Gus. I think you should-" Bato didn't finish
(Turns back.) "Amity, Willow, are you with me?" Gus asked
(Walks by Gus) "I'm with ya alright" Willow said in anger
(Turns to look at Luz and closes her eyes.) "I'm with you Gus." Amity said
Luz sadly looks at Amity, Gus, Willow and Bato as they walk away with Eda placing a hand on Luz's shoulder. Cut to an aerial shot of the abbey. The shot changes to show Bato helping Amity and Willow secure their pack as Gus puts on his own pack. Gus and Bato off camera. Cut to Luz sitting on Appa with Eda and King next to her. Shot changes to show Amity walking in front of the camera.
"Good luck." Amity said
"Okay. You too." Luz said
Amity joins Gus, Willow and Bato at the abbey gate. Mother Superior, in front of Appa, stares at Luz and Eda.
"Guess we should be moving on." Luz said
"That would be best." the Mother Superior said
Appa growls. The shot changes to outside the abbey. Appa walks out and Luz notices three figures walk away in the distance.
"I'm an idiot, King." Luz said (King chitters.)
"Hey, there's no need to be like that, you were just worried you would lose them, but I have a feeling they come back to you" Eda said
Cut to an aerial view of the abbey. The shot cuts to three nuns stirring perfume. The sound of rumbling alerts the nuns as they stare in fright as Nyla enters the abbey holding June, Lilith, and Kaldo. The shot cuts to Nyla's point of view, who sees the purple scent and turns his head to follow it.
"We're getting close." June said (Whips Nyla, who runs out of the abbey and into the woods.)
Cut to a view of the sky amidst some trees and the camera pans down to show Bato, Amity, Gus and Willow walking through the woods. A wolf's howl can be heard in the distance.
(To Gus.) "That wolf sounds so sad." Amity said
"It's probably wounded." Gus said
(Turns back to them.) "No, it's been separated from the pack. I understand that pain. It's how I felt when the Water Tribe warriors had to leave me behind. They were my family," (Shot of Gus, who looks sadly at the camera.) "and being apart from them was more painful than my wounds." Bato said
"That must be how Luz feels" Willow said
Fade to another one of Gus' flashbacks. The young Gus stands at the end of an ice pier as eight ships travel away, fading into the fog. Frontal shot of the young Gus fades to Gus wearing a similar expression from the flashback as he stares at the camera.
"Gus?" Willow asked
"We need to go back. I wanna see Dad, but helping Luz is where we're needed the most." Gus said
(Smiles.) "You're right." Amity said
(Walks up to Gus and puts his arms on his shoulders.) "Your father will understand, and I know he's proud of you." Bato said
"Thanks, Bato." Gus said
"I know where to go from here." (Takes the map from out of his Water Tribe outfit.) "Take this in case you want to find us. I'll leave a message at the rendezvous point." Bato said
The camera pans up and cuts to Luz, Eda and King sitting on Appa with the abandoned Water Tribe ship behind them.
"Looks like we're going alone, guys." Luz said
"Seems like it" Eda said
(Runs on camera. Desperately.) "Avatar, you must leave!" the Mother Superior said
(Annoyed.) "Okay, I get it. Everybody wants me gone." Luz said
(Annoyed.) "What else is new?" Eda asked
"A group of people came to the abbey looking for you." the Mother Superior said
"Who?" Luz asked
"A fierce looking woman with a horrible monster, and a commander with a scar." the Mother Superior said
"Lilith." Eda said
"The beast was using the scent of a necklace to follow you." the Mother Superior said
"A necklace?" (Gasps.) "Gus!" Luz said in panic
Cut to a long path heading toward the abbey and the camera pans down to three figures walking toward the abbey. The shot changes to show Amity, Gus and Willow walking down the path. Gus hears a rumbling noise and puts his hand up to stop his friends from walking. Nyla jumps behind them and all three turn around in fear. Nyla looks at Gus.
(To Lilith.) "So this is your boyfriend." (Lilith jumps down.) "Guess I made a mistake, he's way too young for you." June said
(To Amity, Gus and Willow.) "Where is she? Where is the Avatar?" Lilith asked
"We split up. She's long gone." Willow said
"How stupid do you think I am?" Lilith asked
"Pretty stupid." (Grabs her friends by the arms.) "Run!" Amity yelled
They start running, but Nyla uses his tongue to paralyze them.
"What are we supposed to do now?" Lilith asked
(Nyla walks closer to Amity, Gus and Willow.) "It's seeking a different scent. Perhaps something that the Avatar held." June said
Nyla knocks the map off Gus's pack and smells its blue scent and follows the trail. Cut to the gates of the abbey as Nyla breaks them down. Nuns scatter and the shot shows Nyla holding June, Kaldo, Lilith, Amity, Gus and Willow. Nyla walks around in a circle.
"What's it doing? It's just going in a circle." Lilith said
"She must've been pondering some thought in this spot" Kaldo said
The camera shows Nyla's point of view as he follows the blue scent trail up into the air and sees Luz flying down. The shot changes to Luz flying over Nyla, who stands on his hind legs and attempts to paralyze the Avatar with his tongue, throwing off his riders. Nyla falls down, too.
(Looks up.) "Luz!" Amity said
"Up!" June said (June cracks her whip. Nyla stands up and June mounts him.)
June and Nyla charge at Luz, but Luz knocks down Nyla by leaping on the shirshu's side. Appa growls and snorts at June and Nyla. Cut to Lilith and Luz facing each other. In the background, three nuns drag Amity, Gus and Willow to the side of the abbey. Shot changes from Lilith to Luz to Lilith. Lilith firebends a blast at Luz, who stops it by waving her glider. Luz sends a blast of air at Lilith, who sidesteps it and sends a fire blast at Luz, who spins her staff to stop the blast. Luz sends an airbending blast at Lilith, who sidesteps it and sends another fire blast at Luz. Luz jumps to avoid the blast. Lilith moves in closer to Luz and sends two fire blasts at Luz's head and feet. Luz throws her staff and both jump and duck at the blasts. Lilith punches and kicks at Luz, sending fire blasts at her. Luz avoids these blasts and sends an air blast at Lilith's head. Lilith ducks and sends more fire blasts at Luz. Lilith and Luz both firebend and airbend, respectively, at each other at the same time, creating a large explosion that forms a mushroom cloud. The shot changes to show Lilith and Luz falling on different roofs. Cut to Nyla and June lying on the ground. Kaldo runs up to June and puts his hand on her cheek. June wakes up and stands up.
(Whips Nyla.) "Come on! Get up!" June said
Nyla gets up. Shot of Kaldo smiling. Cut to Nyla running across the abbey with June riding him. Cut to Appa's paw as Nyla lashes his tongue at it. Appa lands and falls down, paralyzed. Cut to a shot of June looking at Appa, who opens his eyes and slowly gets back up to his feet and growls. Nyla
growls back and they charge at each other when June cracks her whip. The collision between the two beasts sends June flying over Appa, and she takes the opportunity to whip the sky bison. She lands on the ground and quickly rolls to the side before Appa stomps on the ground behind him where June had landed, cracking the floor.
Cut to Luz on the roof as she lifts her head and groans and gasps. Cut to Lilith running across the roof and sending a fire blast at the camera. Luz jumps into the air. Lilith sends a fire blast at Luz's feet. Luz jumps up and sends an airbending blast at Lilith. When Luz lands, Lilith sends a fire blast at her. Luz uses an air shield to stop it. Luz gets up and sends a stream of air at Lilith, sending her to an abbey corner tower. Luz runs toward Lilith and attacks her with an air blast. Lilith jumps off the roof and Nyla jumps on. As Luz runs away from the shirshu, Appa uses his tail to send an airbending blast at the roof. Cut to Amity, Gus and Willow sitting by a wall.
"I'm ... starting to get some feeling back!" (Rubble from the roof falls on her.) "Ow." Willow said
Cut to Luz jumping in the abbey courtyard stream and Nyla follows her. Cut to June and Nyla on the roof. They run to the side as a part of the abbey roof explodes. The dust clears to show Appa. Cut to Kaldo examining some perfume bottles. He sniffs one and sneaks it into his sleeves. Cut to Luz standing by a well. Lilith sends her three firebending blasts. Luz jumps to the other side of the well to dodge them. Lilith sends another fire blast at her. Luz ducks and notices Lilith is carrying Gus' necklace.
"You've got something I want." Luz said
Luz jumps between the four beams of the well. She dodges Lilith's fire blasts by moving on all sides of the well. Lilith breaks two of the well's beams and sends the wooden structure away. Lilith jumps on the well's circular stone structure to join Luz. Lilith sends two fire blasts at Luz, who dodges them by stepping around the well. Luz sends two air blasts at Lilith. The shot focuses on the well as the two opponents walk on top of the well. Luz snatches at Gus' stolen necklace, but misses. Lilith lunges at Luz, who jumps onto her back. Cut to a shot of Luz flying through the air as she grabs Gus' necklace off her foot. Luz lands in the well. Lilith sends a fire blast down the well. The water from the well rises out and sends Lilith flying into the air screaming. Luz jumps out with the water, which rains a little before Lilith falls down. Lilith stands up.
Cut to Appa, who walks toward Lilith. Nyla's tongue lashes out at Appa from off-camera. Appa growls and the shot changes to show June riding Nyla. June cracks her whip and Nyla's tongue lashes out at Appa again. Appa falls down and Nyla looks toward Amity, Gus and Willow. Mother Superior makes all three smell a vial of perfume as Eda jumps down from the roof by surprise.
"That thing sees with its nose. Let's give him something to look at." Eda said
"The perfume?" the Mother Superior asked
Eda nods. Cut to four pots of perfume. The nuns, Amity and Willow push the pots. Cut to Nyla and Lilith cornering Luz. Lilith attacks Luz with two fire blasts. Amity, Willow and the nuns pour the
perfume pots onto the ground. Gus and Eda waterbends the perfume into the air and pours it on Nyla. The shot changes to show Nyla's point of view as the perfume scents cloud his vision of Luz.
(Nyla paralyzes Lilith as Kaldo looks at Nyla in concern.) "June! No!" Kaldo yelled (Nyla tongue lashes out and hits June, who falls back into Kaldo's arms.)
Shot cuts to Nyla running around in a circle and bumps into more perfume pots. Nyla jumps over the abbey wall. Shot cuts to Luz picking up her staff and wiping her brow. Amity, Gus, Willow and Eda stand next to Luz and smile at her. Cut to Lilith and Kaldo lying down on the ground. Kaldo cradles June in one hand.
"Lieutenant? I didn't see you get hit with the tongue." Lilith said
"Threw my back out actually, but I'll be okay" Kaldo said
Kaldo closes his eyes, smiling. June opens her eyes angrily upon learning this.
Cut to Appa flying with Team Avatar on his back. Cut to a closer shot of Amity, Gus, Willow and Eda as Luz steers the bison.
"So ... where do we go?" Luz asked
"We're getting you to the North Pole." Amity said
"Yeah, we've lost too much time as it is." Gus said
(Turns to Gus.) "Don't you want to see your father?" Luz asked
"Of course I do, Luz. But, you're our family, too. And right now, you need us more." Gus said
"And we need you." Willow said
"Family sticks together no matter what" Eda said
"I wish I could give you a little piece of home, Gus. Something to remind you …" Luz said
"I'll be okay." Gus said
"Still, just a little trinket. Maybe something like …" (Holds up Gus' necklace.) "this?" Luz asked (Closer shot of the necklace.)
(Takes the necklace.) "Luz, how'd you get that?" Gus asked
"Lilith asked me to be sure I got it to you." Luz said
"Aw, that's sweet of Lilith. Could you give her a kiss for me when you see her?" Amity asked
"Sure." Luz said
Amity kisses Luz on the cheek and Luz blushes and twiddles her thumbs. Further shot of Appa flying toward the horizon.
