(Hello and welcome to a new chapter of whatever this is.
Now, to answer some "very" important questions. Ahem:
Will the Space Pirates make a return?
…No… That's honestly the answer. They're not in this story.
And that's it. The explanation for the Backlander II, as it was written in the previous chapter, will be explained in this chapter. Also I already explained the return of the stone tablets in the first chapter so if you didn't spot it, that's on you. Sorry, mate, I don't mean to sound like a dick.
Also I just want to say this as a (kind of) warning: …This story will have TONS of Jurassic Park references. I am gonna reference A LOT of Jurassic Park. Like you have no idea how many references I'm planning to make when I make certain dinosaurs appear lmao.
Anyway… THAT SNIPER IS A BLOODY SPY!)
The D-Team had just teleported to a forest in Monroe, Washington, immediately looking around them, seeing nothing but trees all around them. Meanwhile, Chomp, Paris, and Ace ran away as they started chasing each other, like old times. "Huh. I didn't expect the capital to be full of forests. Where's the White House?" Max asks.
Rex turned to his friend with an unamused expression. "Max, the White House isn't in the state of Washington. It's in Washington D.C.." he informs the young dinosaur enthusiast.
"Yeah, that's what I just said." Max replies.
"Forget it, Rex. It's no use." Zoe whispers to her friend.
"Same old Max." Rex chuckles.
"So Max, where does the bracer say where the dinosaur is?" Zoe asks.
"Let me see." Max checked his bracer, only to find out that there was no beeping or flashing dot on the screen. "No way!"
"What? What is it?!" Rex asks, confused on Max's sudden outburst.
"The dinosaur! It's gone!"
"But how could that be?!" Zoe asks.
"Maybe it moved to an area where the bracer can't detect it?" Max theorizes.
"Maybe. I'm not sure if my parents built these things to be pinpoint accurate and have a better signal though." Rex says.
"Hey, look! A town!" Zoe points out as she points to some buildings behind the trees.
"We could ask around and see if they've seen a dinosaur." Max suggests.
"Oh yeah. That would go great. Let's ask if anyone has seen a living, breathing dinosaur around." Rex sarcastically says.
"Hey, it didn't stop us before! Besides, do you have any better ideas?" Max asks, clearly offended by the sarcasm.
"Well I- Erm… No." Rex stammered.
"What choice do we have? Besides, the only thing we'll get are odd looks anyway. Nothing too big." Zoe tells the two, trying to stay optimistic.
"I guess it's our only choice. Let's go." Rex says as the two begin to walk towards the forest exit.
"Hey, Chomp! Come on, we're going to go find the dinosaur!" Max called out to his partner. To his surprise, both Chomp and Paris were grazing on some grass while Ace was scratching his head with his hind legs like a dog. "Huh. I guess being in a card for two years sure does make you work up an appetite." At that moment, Max's stomach growled as well. "Speaking of appetite, I sure am hungry. I'm so hungry, I could eat a dinosaur.'
"Just don't eat the one we're trying to find, Max." Zoe says in an unamused tone as usual.

Dinosaur King: Prehistoric Peril
Upon entering the town, the trio immediately began sight seeing… for about a few minutes upon realizing how small the town really is. "Man, there's um… There's not much to see in Monroe, is there?" Max asks out of nowhere, earning a squeak from Chomp.
"Well Reese did say it's a small town. So far we've only seen small buildings and small cafes." Zoe says.
"Hey look!" Rex exclaims, his eyes widening to the size of dinner plates.
"What?! Is it the dinosaur?!" Max asks, his sense of adventure reentering his system.
"It's a giant… pole… with the name Monroe on it." Rex says in an uncertain tone.
"Max was right. There's not much in this town." Zoe says in a disappointed tone.
"Don't lose hope yet, Zoe." Rex tells his friend, trying to stay optimistic. "I bet there are some cool sights here. Look! A… grocery store… and a uh… a parking lot! And look! Look at all this uh… Uh…" All around Rex was absolutely nothing interesting. Just stores, streets, and parking lots. "Aww. This town is bullshit."
"Toldja." Max replies with a smug smile, causing Rex to pop a vein on his forehead.
"Man. This is a real…" Rex stopped as he couldn't think of the right words to describe the town.
"Disappointment?" Max guesses.
"Yeah, it's a disappointment." Rex agrees.
"You're right, Rex. You're so right. This is a wonderful town." Max sarcastically says, mocking Rex in a mocking tone.
"Ah, shut up, Max."
"Maybe we'll have a better chance at finding the dinosaur by exploring the town?" Zoe suggests, though in an uncertain tone.
"Good idea… maybe. I'm not sure. This is a small town after all." Max points out.
"What other choice do we have? There's a dinosaur on the loose and we're the only ones who can defeat it. We need to stop it before it causes damage." Rex informs Max.
"I don't know." Max skeptically replies. "You would think in a small town like this, someone would've spotted the dinosaur." Max suddenly spotted a concession stand across the street, suddenly getting hungry. "In fact, I think I see the dinosaur over by that hot dog stand!" Max sporadically says with a drooling mouth before running across the street followed by Chomp, leaving his friends behind. "Uh, I'll take a chili cheese dog please." he orders at the stand.
"Great. Well we lost Max." Zoe says in a disappointed tone. "I guess it's just you and me, Rex."
"Actually, Zoe, if it's alright with you, I'm going to go find my dad- I mean, Dr. Owen. Since he's in town I want to tell him that I'm back. I'm sure he missed me a lot." Rex tells his friend.
"Of course, Rex. You can go and see your dad. I'm sure he missed you too." Zoe replies in a warm tone. "At least you're not stuffing your face with fast food."
Over by Max, he was currently wolfing down the chili dog like a crazed Neanderthal, as if he hadn't eaten in months. "Aw! Hm! Oh, it's so good! Hm!" Max says as he made a mess with his food. Chomp tried to take a bite out of Max's chili dog, only for him to growl and pull it away, like a wild animal.
"It's hard to tell who's the human and who's the dinosaur." Zoe sarcastically says aloud.
"Thank you, Zoe. I'll check in with you in an hour. Who knows? Maybe my dad- um, Dr. Owen, actually discovered the dinosaur we're after? Let's go, Ace" Rex jokes as he chuckles to himself before leaving, along with Ace.
"Well. It's just you and me now. Paris. So, where do you think we should start looking for that dinosaur?" Zoe asks herself.
"Excuse me. But did I hear you say you were looking for a dinosaur?" asks a voice.
Zoe turned around to see a man sitting at a table at an outdoor café, a cheeseburger with fries on his plate. This was the same man who had discovered the two dinosaur cards early that morning. Zoe approached the stranger, a nervous expression on her face as she had to prepare herself on explaining a very odd situation. "Yeah, you heard that right. I'm looking for a dinosaur." Zoe replies.
"Like a skeleton at the museum or a real life, breathing dinosaur?" asks the man.
"Uh… a real one." Zoe says in defeat, prepared to get an odd look from the man.
"That's crazy! You too!" the man exclaims, surprising Zoe. "I thought I was the only one who saw it."
"Wait! You saw the dinosaur as well?!" Zoe asks in disbelief, almost not believing the man.
"That's right. I saw one just this morning when I was coming home from the grocery store." the man replies.
"No way! What did it look like?" Zoe asks.
The man was shocked upon hearing this question, not prepared at all to give a description. "Well… it was dinosaur-like." the man sheepishly replies.
"Was it walking on all fours? Did it have sharp teeth?" Zoe asks, trying to get a description out of him.
"Uuhhh." The man's eyes wandered to below the table for a brief second before looking back up at Zoe. "It had sharp teeth." he answers.
"So it's a carnivore. That's really bad. It could end up hurting somebody." Zoe says to herself. "Which way did it head off to?"
"It went into the forest, thataway." the man replies, pointing to the forest the three teens just came out of. "If you don't mind me asking, why are you trying to find it?"
Zoe suddenly got nervous, not expecting him to ask her that question. "Uh, well, you see, it's really difficult to explain." she says.
"How so?" the man asks, curiosity getting the best of him. "Also how did you know there was a dinosaur here? You don't look like you're from here. I know basically everyone in this town and I've never seen you here before."
Zoe started sweating bullets at that moment. "Uh- Well, you see. I'm not from here exactly." she nervously stated.
Before she could answer, Paris suddenly jumped on the table, startling both the man and Zoe, before Paris began to eat one of the man's fries. "Hey! Get away from that! That's my food! Get your own plate of french fries!" the man yelled at Paris before realizing something. "Hey, wait a minute. This thing looks like a Parasaurolophus. Except smaller."
"Huh?! Oh, she does! What a coincidence! I see the resemblance too! Isn't that funny? Heheheheh." Zoe nervously chuckled as she pulled Paris away.
The man blankly stared at Zoe for a brief second before saying, "She's a dinosaur, isn't she?"
"What?! Don't be crazy! She's not-"
"I can tell with that horn on her head." the man blankly replies with a deadpan expression. Zoe instantly gave up, no longer having any more excuses in her system. "Just who are you anyway?"
Zoe sighed in defeat. "What's the point in hiding it anymore?" she says to herself. "You see, me and my friends were sent here to retrieve this dinosaur so it won't hurt people and so people won't hurt it." It wasn't a total lie if she was being honest. "You said I don't like that I'm from here. You see, I'm not. I'm from Sanjo City, Japan."
"But how'd you get here so quickly? You'd have to cross the Pacific to get to Washington all the way from Japan and the dinosaur showed up this morning." the man explains.
"Uh… Well… You're not gonna believe this but… We teleported here." Zoe says in a defeated tone, almost ashamed she had to reveal that information.
"Teleportation?... Cool." the man says in a slightly excited tone.
This confused Zoe as she raised an eyebrow at him. "You believe me?" she asks.
"I'm an open man. I'll believe anything if it has enough evidence to it. And so far, the only explanations to you guys being here so quickly is that you guys were already here or teleporting, and I don't believe in coincidences. Also your small dinosaur gave it away." the man chuckled as he pointed to Paris.
Zoe eyed Paris, giving her the stink eye as Paris smugly looked away. "Can you please keep this a secret, Mr…" Zoe stopped herself, not getting the name of the man.
"Just call me Leon, and don't worry. Your secret's safe with me." the man now known as Leon replies with a smile.
"Thank you so much, Leon." Zoe bowed to show her appreciation.
"In America, we shake hands but the bow will do." Leon replies with a smile. "Anyway, you better get moving if you want to catch the you-know-what before it causes trouble."
"I will. Thanks Leon!" Zoe thanked as she waved goodbye and ran away, leaving Leon to his lunch.
Speaking of lunch, Max had just finished his as he sat on a bench, a full belly with leftover chili on his mouth. "Aaaah. That was the best chili cheese dog I ever had. Now time for a little cat nap." Max yawned as he prepared himself to lie down on the bench and take a nap.
"Max! Max!" Zoe calls out as she runs to her sleeping friend.
"Five more minutes, mom." Max tiredly says, shooing Zoe away.
"Come on! Wake up! You look like a homeless guy. Somebody's gonna steal your wallet, you know. Besides, I know where the dinosaur's at." Zoe informs him.
Upon receiving the startling information, Max immediately shot up from the bench, an excited expression on his chili covered face. "Really?! Then let's go catch this dinosaur!" Max enthusiastically exclaims.
Zoe felt a bead of sweat drop down her forehead as she gave Max her signature lidded eyes, unamused look. "Uh, Max. You're covered in chili." she says.
"Huh? Oh." Max suddenly got out a napkin he got from the vendor before wiping his face clean. "Alright. Now let's- Waaaaait a minute. Hold on. Where's Rex?"
"Rex went to go see his dad- I mean, Dr. Owen, at the excavation. Man, that is hard to get used to." Zoe says the last part to herself.
"Oh… Well that's alright. You and I should be enough to defeat this dinosaur. Where is it exactly?"
"It's in the forest from where we came out of. But get this, this man said it was a carnivore so we need to catch it as soon as possible!"
"It's not the only thing that's a carnivore." Max quips before burping. "Enough talk! Let's go find this dinosaur!"
"Leon said it should be in this forest." Zoe says as she and Max were walking into the forest.
"Well I don't see it." Max says, his hands behind his head, giving off a carefree vibe. Chomp began smelling the grass before 'barking' and running off. "Chomp, do you smell it?" Max asks his companion as he and Zoe ran after the chibi Triceratops.
Chomp continued to run deeper into the forest until he stopped to chew on some leaves. "Aww! I thought you found the dinosaur!" Max whined in disappointment.
"Looks like he was just hungry." Zoe joked as she laughed.
"Yeah." Max couldn't help but agree with her, albeit in a defeated tone. Unbeknownst to them, a silver light flashed in the forest for a brief second in the distance. "You know, I'm starting to think this was a wild goose chase. Or a wild dinosaur chase in this matter."
"But Leon said the dinosaur was in this forest. I don't know why he would lie to us." Zoe says.
At that moment, both Max's and Zoe's bracers began beeping, surprising the two. "No way! Our Dino Bracers are working again!" Max exclaimed.
"That was so weird how it wasn't working before. But now that it is, we should be able to find the dinosaur." Zoe says.
Unbeknownst to the two of them, the dinosaur was closer than they thought as a hind claw with a sickle stepped on the ground before them. The sickle on the claw tapped on the ground as low growling could be heard coming from the dinosaur.
"So where's it at?" Max asks.
"It says that the dinosaur… is right… behind us…" Zoe says as fear entered her system.
At that moment, sticky saliva dropped on her shoulder, causing her blood to turn ice cold as she froze in place. The two of them suddenly turned around, coming face to face with a light blue carnivore about 10 feet tall, staring at them with hungry eyes. The two of them stood in fear, not knowing what to do at the moment, briefly forgetting how to handle this well known situation.
"Hi." Max weakly says.
In response, the dinosaur roared as it pounced at its prey; luckily for the two of them, they managed to run out of the way in time. "What is that thing?! I've never seen a dinosaur like that before!" Zoe exclaims in a panicked tone.
"It's a- It's a-… What the- What the heck is this thing?!" Max shouts in a baffled tone. The dinosaur, known as a Calamosaurus, turned around and roared at the two of them. "Well whatever it is, we'll have to fight it. You ready, Chomp?" Chomp in response barked in a dinosaur way before Max recalled him, nostalgia filling his bones. "Never thought I would ever say this again."
"DINO SLASH! GO, TRICERATOPS! ROAR!"
Epic, triumphant music equivalent to a hero unleashing his final move to end a brutal battle began playing as the chibi Triceratops began to undergo a transformation. Chomp flew into the air as lightning surrounded his body, soon transforming his stubby legs into muscular, meaty ones. His two horns spawned into existence through lightning itself as his frill enlarged, followed by his nose horn as his eyes glowed so bright, it could illuminate the night itself. After his transformation, the triumphant Triceratops stood on it's hind legs and gave a mighty roar, signifying that he has arrived and is ready to help everybody.
Max stared at awe, not having seen this transformation in such a long time as a tear dropped from his eye. "So many good memories." Max says to himself with a weeping smile. Chomp charged right at the Calamosaurus in front of him, only for the theropod to jump over him at the last second before pouncing on his back. "Shake him off, Chomp!"
Chomp roared into the air as the Calamosaurus began biting and scratching the Triceratops before Chomp fell backwards in hopes of crushing the theropod. Unfortunately for him, the Calamosaurus hopped off at the last minute, resulting in Chomp having a very sore back.
"Well, he shook him off." Zoe jokingly states as both she and Max had a bead of sweat dripping down their forehead with annoyed smiles on their faces.
"Exactly like old times." Max comments. At that moment, the Calamosaurus hopped onto Chomp's stomach before repeatedly kicking him in it with it's hind legs, slowly hurting Chomp. "Get up, Chomp! Man, I don't remember being this hard to take out a wild dinosaur."
Chomp suddenly got up, throwing the Calamosaurus off of him before the wild dinosaur went in for another attack. However, this time Chomp was ready, evident when he swung his horns at the theropod, knocking him into the air and crashing into a tree. Chomp roared a mighty roar before giving chase to the Calamosaurus, forcing Max and Zoe to follow the Triceratops. Chomp continued to give chase to the wild dinosaur, only to find out that it was nowhere to be seen, confusing the herbivore. At that moment, he heard the sounds of branches breaking above him, prompting him to look up, only to be met face to face with the Calamosaurus, which, once again, latched onto Chomp's back.
"That dinosaur sure loves getting on Chomp's back." Zoe says aloud, worried for her teammate.
"I wonder how it'll do with Spiny or Tank." Max replies, curious on how the wild dinosaur could achieve that especially with how the said two's backs aren't easy to latch on to. Chomp suddenly began bucking as the Calamosaurus hung on for dear life, like a cowboy holding onto a bucking bronco, as the Triceratops tried his hardest to get the theropod off of him. "You can do it, Chomp! Shake him off!" Max encouraged his partner.
Chomp roared in the air before finally throwing the Calamosaurus off of him and into another tree, this time not breaking it and not getting away. "Alright!" both Max and Zoe exclaimed at the same time, throwing their fists into the air.
The moment was interrupted however when the Calamosaurus suddenly glowed white as ferocious winds suddenly formed in it's mouth, swirling around in a violent vortex. The theropod suddenly shot out the winds as it twirled around like a volcano before impacting with Chomp, sending him flying with the violent tornado that was shot out of the Calamosaurus' mouth. Chomp crashed into several trees before he impacted with a rock, the move had severely drained a large portion of his health.
"Oh no! Chomp!" Max cried out to his partner.
"That dinosaur just used Sonic Blast!" Zoe exclaimed with a shocked expression.
The Calamosaurus roared as it began running towards the downed Triceratops, ready to unleash the finishing move. "Chomp is in trouble!" Max shouts in a panicked tone.
"Leave this to me, Max!" Zoe shouts as she recalls Paris.
DINO SLASH! PARASAUROLOPHUS, BLOOM!
The chibi Parasaurolophus also began going through a transformation as the same with Chomp; music fitting for a kindhearted Goddess ready to heal the wounds on all fallen warriors without violence played in the background. Leaves sprouted from Paris as if she was a seed as her limbs extended to it's full length, followed by her crest, sprouting into the air like a healthy plant. Her eyes glowed green as she roared into the air, ready to help out her friends and heal all wounds.
"Nature's Blessing! Paris! Heal Chomp's wounds!" Zoe called out as she activated her move card.
A green glowing ball of healing energy with orbiting leaves formed inside Paris' mouth before she shot it out towards her teammate. Chomp, on the verge of collapse, lied on the ground beside the rock as Nature's Blessing impacted him, soon healing all the wounds he had just sustained. His eyes shot wide open, his energy returning to him as with his thirst for a fight as he stood back up and roared into the air.
"Alright! Nice going, Paris!" Max congratulated his teammate, whom roared into the air. "Now help us take down that… thing, whatever it's called. Seriously, I have no idea what that dinosaur is."
Seeing how it was against two dinosaurs instead of one, the Calamosaurus began backing up, not knowing what to do in the situation. Instead… it ran. It just ran off, leaving the group behind with baffled expressions. "I guess it can't take on two dinosaurs at once." Zoe says aloud with a blank expression.
"It's getting away! Let's chase after it!" Max shouts as he ran off with Chomp.
"Right!" Zoe replies as she ran after him.
Meanwhile Rex and Ace continued their journey to find Rex's adoptive father, having no idea about the battle back at the forest. Upon hearing from Dr. Taylor that Dr. Owen was at an excavation in the same town, Rex, at the moment at the time, instantly wanted to go see him. His heart was beating a mile per minute, extremely both nervous and excited to be reunited with his adoptive father.
"Dr. Taylor said that he was at an excavation near here that my dad- um, Dr. Owen, was at. I wonder where it's at." Rex says to himself.
Rex reached the end of the tree line before turning to the side, seeing many vehicles and tents set up, no doubt the excavation. At the far end tent was Dr. Owen himself, examining a piece of a dinosaur fossil they managed to find. "Incredible. The sickle claw of a Velociraptor. Granted, the rest of the Velociraptor was destroyed from storms but this still managed to come out intact. Extraordinary." Dr. Owen says to his team as they stared at the sickle claw.
Rex managed to spot his adoptive father before he wasted no time in going over to him, his heart still beating. Ace struggled to keep as Rex's legs appeared to have had a mind of their own, with Rex unknowingly increasing his speed. The two passed many paleontologists and workers, all of whom were giving odd looks to see Rex just out of nowhere, walk through the site. Eventually, Rex was a few meters away from Dr. Owen, whom still had no idea that his adoptive son was right behind him.
"So what do we suggest we do now, Dr. Owen?" asks Patrick, whom was still his assistant.
"Well first we should uncover more of the area and see if there's any other Velociraptors." Dr. Owen began to explain. "Just because this one was destroyed doesn't mean the rest of it's pack was. Who knows, we might find…"
Dr. Owen suddenly stopped as his face went pale, feeling a disturbance in the air, as his workers gave him odd looks, not knowing why he stopped. "Dr. Owen?" asks Patrick. Dr. Owen didn't hear him, and continued to stare at the wall with a disturbed expression, sensing something was off in the area. Upon seeing his adoptive father act strangely, Rex stopped in his tracks, afraid that something may have happened to him. Dr. Owen's expression shifted to one of an emotional look as he dropped the sickle claw he had in his hands, shattering it to pieces.
"Rex?" Dr. Owen says aloud, turning around to finally see his adoptive son.
It turns out, deep inside his soul, his fatherly instincts were telling him that his adoptive son was here and that he was alright. It was enough for Dr. Owen to believe them as he finally met eye contact with his adoptive son. Both Rex and Dr. Owen stared at each other's eyes, tears threatening to spill from them. Everyone around them stopped as they stared at the scene; every worker knew Dr. Owen's adoptive son had to leave after finding his real family, so they understood everything they were seeing. Everyone's hearts raced as they watched the scene, all knowing what would eventually happen, but the fastest hearts of them all were Dr. Owen and Rex.
"Dad." Rex says above a whisper, tears escaping from his eyes.
The two continued to stare at each other with awestruck expressions, both taking a few steps forward… before they clashed into each other's arms, hugging and embracing each other tightly. Their tears were finally let loose as everyone else began tearing up as well, the heartwarming scene too much for everyone's hearts. Dr. Owen hugged his son as tightly as he could, not wanting to let go of him ever again as he rubbed the back of his head, while Rex hugged his father's abdomen. Both were no longer hiding their tears from each other or from anyone at that matter, both not wanting to let go of their long separated bond. Everyone around them began clapping as many people began openly crying too as they watched the heartwarming scene in front of them. Patrick wiped a tear from his eye before sniffing and taking off his hat, his heart happy that his friend reunited with his adoptive son.
"I missed you so much." Dr. Owen tells his son, a huge smile on his face as his cheeks were stained with tears.
Rex sniffed, a smile of his own as his cheeks were also stained with tears. "Me too." he replies.
Dr. Owen suddenly got on his knee, cupping his adoptive son's cheeks as he just stared at his face. "Look at you, Rex… You've grown so much." Dr. Owen tells him before hugging him again.
After the heartwarming reunion, Dr. Owen suspended the excavation for the rest of the day, wanting nothing more but to be with his adoptive son after reuniting with him. Currently, the two were sitting at a table, eating some lunch while Ace chowed down on some barbecue meat they had cooked up for him afterwards. Almost immediately after sitting down, Dr. Owen began asking Rex how he was doing after he left home to the future two years ago.
"Things have been quiet and slow ever since we went to the future." Rex reveals.
"Really?" Dr. Owen asks, taking a bit from his barbecued meat on his plate.
Rex nodded his head in response. "Hm-mm. The only things my dad has been doing is studying more on dinosaurs and working on making the Backland."
"The Backland? I thought that was left here in this time period. In fact, if I'm correct, the previous Backland is still off the shore. Didn't you take the Space Pirates' ship though?" Dr. Owen asks as he rubbed his chin.
"That's the thing, we took apart the entire ship and rebuilt it into the Backland. It's a much better version than the first one, one with an arsenal of weapons to help protect us from enemies and with a better time tracking system." Rex replies.
"Amazing! I'm assuming you used that to get to this time period, right?" Dr. Owen asks as Ace wolfed down a large piece of meat, swallowing it whole.
"That's right." Rex confirmed, nodding his head. "We honestly couldn't have made the Backlander II if it wasn't for my dad's assistant."
"Seth helped out in the construction?!" Dr. Owen exclaims, surprised to hear this.
"What? No, no! Seth is in jail in our time period!" Rex instantly replies, immediately throwing any thoughts out the window that his adoptive father may have had on Seth. "My dad hired a new assistant. He was the one who helped us in constructing the Backlander II. After we rebuilt the ship, our first trip was to the Cretaceous Period. Our team wanted to document the dinosaurs even more than they did before. We had a lot more time too because we weren't busy trying to turn them into cards to preserve their species."
"When you say 'your team', what do you mean? Did you hire paleontologists to assist you?" Dr. Owen asks.
"Well, erm… no. We brought along the Alpha Gang." Rex sheepishly replies, knowing exactly what would happen in the next second.
"The Alpha Gang?! You mean my lovely dearest Ursula came along?! Does that mean she's here now?!" Dr. Owen excitedly asks as he practically got on top of the table and got up close to Rex's face.
Rex gave a sheepish smile as a bead of sweat fell down the side of his head. "Helga made them promise to help us as a sort of redemption for them after what happened last time." Rex explains.
"But you didn't answer my question! Is Ursula here?!" Dr. Owen practically screams.
"Yes, the old lady's here." Rex replies with an exasperated smile.
Ursula suddenly shot up from the bed she was sleeping in, a furious expression on her practically red face. "I heard that! Somebody somewhere called me an old lady! When I find you, I'm gonna show you just how old I really am when I ram my foot up your ass! Now time for sleep." In an instant, she went back to her deep slumber, snoring as loud as possible as a snot bubble formed in her nose.
"Aaaaaaaah! My darling little wallflower is finally back! Where is she?!" Dr. Owen continues to ask.
"Are you sure you want to see? You know she always rejects you. Plus you two are literally over a hundred years apart." Rex tells his adoptive father.
"I don't care if we're a millennium apart! My love for her will continue to blossom in my heart even if she isn't in my time period!" Dr. Owen proclaims, getting on his knee as he holds a yellow rose in the air.
"Good luck with that." Rex says in a defeated smile, knowing it was no use to try and convince his adoptive father.
"Hey, what's that?"
"What's going on?"
"What's happening?"
"What is that thing?"
"Anyone know what it is?"
Rex and Dr. Owen suddenly turned to the commotion, seeing all the workers staring at something in the distance, all not sure at what they were looking at. The two of them quickly ran up to Patrick, whom was amongst the crowd and also staring at the mysterious object in the distance. "Patrick! What's wrong?" Dr. Owen asks frantically.
"Something is coming our way." Patrick replies as he pointed to the direction.
As it turns out, there was a large cloud of dirt heading straight towards the excavation with what appeared to be the sounds of large stomping. When the cloud got closer, it was revealed to be the Calamosaurus being chased by Chomp and Paris, surprising the three of them. "Woah! It's… I honestly have no idea what that is." Rex says in a baffled tone with an equally baffled expression.
"Doctor. Do you know what that is?" Patrick asks his boss.
"It looks like a Utahraptor, except smaller." Dr. Owen says.
"And look who's behind it. It's Chomp and Paris! That must be the dinosaur the detector picked up!" Rex theorizes as he instantly recalled Ace, whom wasn't finished with his meal. "Let's go, Ace! You can chow down after this showdown."
"DINO SLASH! CARNOTAURUS! BLOW THEM AWAY!"
Ace flew up into the air as his entire body underwent the same transformation as his comrades as music played out in the background. The music played out, like a lonely anti-hero mercenary showing up at the last minute to help the hero fight off the villains, displaying his many levels of fighting skills. As if Ace was the wind himself, his legs transformed into muscles as the many spikes on his back popped into existence, followed by his yellow horns. His eyes glowed light blue before he roared, ready for a fight that he strived to get stronger afterwards.
Upon being called out for a battle, the Calamosaurus instantly saw the Carnotaurus but continued to rush towards the excavation nonetheless. Anything to get away from the Parasaurolophus and the Triceratops chasing him from behind. "Alright, Ace. You ready?" Rex asked, getting his answer in the form of a roar. "Then let's go! Ninja-" Before he could activate the move card, the Calamosaurus leaped right over Ace and continued running, confusing the two of them. "Huh?"
"I guess it's in a hurry." Patrick commented in a blank tone.
"Rex!" Max calls out from afar, behind the two dinosaurs. "Don't let that somethingasaurus get away!"
"What-asaurus?" Rex asks, confused as to what he meant.
"I think he said Thesaurus." Patrick replies.
The Calamosaurus continued running, scaring away the archeological dig site workers before the prehistoric creature was cornered by the three dinosaurs and the wall. "We got him now!" Max says in a triumphant tone. All of a sudden, the Calamosaurus glowed light blue as it roared into the air, signaling another attack was going to happen. "Then again, maybe not!"
The Calamosaurus shot out his Sonic Blast move as it impacted Paris, sending her flying into several rock walls before being crushed into the border of the digsite. After the attack was over, Paris collapsed on the ground before she returned to her card. "Oh no! It got Paris!" Zoe cried out as she ran over to retrieve her card.
"Let's go! Lightning Spear!" Max shouts as he slashes his move card.
Chomp glowed yellow before charging right at the medium sized theropod before ramming his horns into it, leaping into the air with it. At that moment, he suddenly unleashed a vast amount of electricity as it impaled the Calamosaurus, much like an actual spear. After it was done, the Calamosaurus landed on the ground, extremely wounded but still had enough energy to fight
"Let's end things off with Ninja Attack!" Rex shouts as he activates the move card.
Ace started charging right at the Calamosaurus, picking up speed as he created clones of himself in the process. Ace and the clones closed the distance between the Calamosaurus before leaping in the air; the theropod looked everywhere, wondering where it's opponents went. All of a sudden, it was hit in the side by one of the clones before another clone struck it, until a vicious assault of clones ramming into it began. Because of it's already low energy, the Calamosaurus collapsed in the middle of the attack as it turned into a card.
"Awesome!" Max triumphantly calls out as the three of them high fived each other.
At that moment, a small pool of rainbow light appeared out of nowhere, revealing to be Dr. Z and the Alpha Gang, the trio having their Alpha Scanners in their hands. "Alright! The scanner said the dinosaur was here so you three bozos go find it!" Dr. Z ordered his henchmen immediately after arriving.
"After that power nap, I feel like I could take on a hundred dinos!" Ursula exclaims in a happy tone, raising her fist into the air.
"I feel like I could dance all day long!" Zander added on, doing a twirl in the process.
"I'm just hungry." Ed commented.
"There's more to life than dancing and eating you dimwits! Like catching that dinosaur!" Dr. Z yelled at his three assistants.
"Hate to break it to ya, doctor, but we already beat the dinosaur." Max tells the mad scientist, surprising him.
"What?! You mean we're too late?" he says in a depressed tone as he and the trio hung their heads low.
"And I was looking forward to fighting a dinosaur with Terry." Ursula whined in the same depressed tone as well.
"Us too." Zander and Ed said simultaneously.
"AAAAAAAH!" Dr. Owen screamed as his eyes turned into hearts. "Ursula! My love! You came back!"
"Huh? OH NO! NOT YOU AGAIN!" Ursula shouted as she ran away from the chasing paleontologist.
"Ursula! Don't run! Our love is destiny! Can't you feel it?!"
"I can feel a major headache is what I'm feeling!"
Dr. Z suddenly pounced over at Dr. Owen, kicking him right in the stomach and sending him flying into a wall where he crashed into it. "Knock it off you sick lovebird!" Dr. Z shouts at the other doctor. He suddenly noticed the dinosaur card in front of him, picking it up to see what exactly it was. "Ah, the Calamosaurus card! I always wondered where this thing went!" Dr. Z says as he grinned at the card.
"So that's what that was. A Calamosaurus." Max says as he scratched his head.
"I wonder why we didn't know the name." Zoe asks aloud.
"That's because in this time period, the entire skeleton hasn't been dug up yet." Dr. Z began to explain. "Only two parts of the snout and a single claw were found. In about, what year are we in? In about fifty or so years later, the rest of the skeleton would be found and it would be constructed, give or take."
"But that doesn't explain how you know what it is." Zoe says to the mad scientist.
"You fool! In order to become the Dinosaur King I must know every single dinosaur by heart! That's why!" Dr. Z shouts at the girl.
"I thought the reason why you knew the dinosaur was because we went back in time to turn the dinosaurs into cards in the first place and saw one in person." Ed says in a confused manner.
"Quiet you nitwit!" Dr. Z shouts as he slapped the trio's heads.
"Ow!" Ursula shouts in pain.
"Why did we get hit?! We didn't do anything!" Zander complains as large bumps with white bandaids on it formed on their heads.
"Wow. It feels weird not battling the dinosaur against you guys." Max says aloud. "Usually by this point we would've taken the dinosaur and you guys would be scurrying on home. I actually feel kind of uncomfortable."
"You too, huh?" Ursula asks as the three of them shivered.
"Enough of your whining! We need to get back to the Backland II ASAP! Jonathan! Beam us all up!" Dr. Z ordered.
"Dr. Z, the Backland II isn't here. Remember?" Ursula asks in a tired tone.
"Huh?"
"Yeah, the Backland II is all the way back at Sanjo City." Ed reminded his adoptive father.
"Oh yeah, that's right. I guess it must've slipped my mastermind." Dr. Z quipped with a smile.
"AHAHAHAHAHAHA!" The entire Alpha Gang laughed before being slapped by Dr. Z himself. "Quiet, fools!"
"Well I guess the only thing to do now is to head back home and wait for another dinosaur to appear." Zoe tells her friends.
"Yeah, and Rex, you can stay in my house like old times! If that's alright with you of course." Max tells his former roommate.
"I'd have to talk it over with my parents first. But yeah. Some relaxation sounds good. But if it's alright with you…" Rex suddenly turned to where his adoptive father was, whom was being helped up by Patrick. "I think I want to stay here for a while and spend some time with my dad- I mean, Dr. Owen."
"Of course, Rex." Zoe replies with a smile.
"Take all the time you need." Max adds on, with a smile of his own.
Rex smiled afterwards, appreciating his friend. "Thanks." he says before walking off to go help his adoptive father before giving him a big hug.
"It's so heartwarming to see a parent and a child be reunited after so long." Zoe says in an emotional tone, a tear in her eye.
"Reminds me of the Space Pirates." Max commented as the two teleported back to the D-Lab.
"So Rex is staying in Washington?" Spike asks his son after they had just arrived back.
"Just to spend some time with Dr. Owen, then he's coming back." Max replies to his father.
"Awww now that's heartwarming!" Spike exclaims as he began crying a waterfall. "The love between a parent and child is so powerful that not even time can keep each other away! Come to think of it, I should really call my mom and dad. I'm gonna do that right away!"
"Not so fast, Dr. Taylor." Reese suddenly spoke up, alerting the three.
"Is something the matter, Reese?" Zoe asks her sister as they approached the super computer.
"As I'm sure you're all well aware, the detector stopped working upon your arrival to Monroe but then activated again an hour later. Well the computer says that the two signals were that of two different dinosaurs." Reese explains.
"No way! Really?!" Max and Spike shout at the same time.
"How is that possible?!" Zoe asks, equally confused as the other two.
"I'm not sure myself." Reese admits. "The initial dinosaur the detector located disappeared before you arrived at Monroe, meaning it got turned back into a card. How it did, I'm not sure, but I can positively say it wasn't from another dinosaur. Otherwise the detector would've picked that up as well. No, this dinosaur disappeared somehow and I'm not sure how."
"It wasn't the Alpha Gang, they were sleeping." Max says aloud, knocking them off the list.
"Yeah and I doubt it was those Space Pirates. I'm pretty sure they're… well… dead." Zoe grimly says.
"So what does this mean exactly, Reese?" Spike asks his assistant.
"Well, it could mean very few things." Reese replies, turning around to face the three. "It could've been a fluke and the dinosaur turned itself into a card somehow, the computer is malfunctioning or… there could be someone else. Someone who defeated that dinosaur in a matter of seconds. Someone who is after the cards as well." Upon hearing that theory, the group tensed up, the thought of having to deal with another villain after dinosaurs putting a stop to their excitement in a mere second.
"Well whoever they are, they're not going to get the cards! Not with the D-Team on the job!" Max exclaims, trying to sound brave despite being cautious of the recent news.
"Yeah!" Zoe agreed as she raised her fist in the air.
"It's just a theory, you guys. Maybe there's someone, maybe there isn't. But if the theory is true then keep in mind that person captured that dinosaur in a short time… Or maybe it was just that person's own dinosaur card. Like I said, there's a possible number of reasons so don't get yourselves too excited over this." Reese replies to the two enthusiastic kids
"We got to tell Rex about this." Max tells his friend, ignoring Reese.
"Well, after he comes back from Washington of course." Zoe replies with a smile.
Currently, it was in the evening, the sun was going down but there was still a bit of sunlight in the sky, as Rex was helping his adoptive father with the excavation. He was helping put together more bones as Patrick and other workers dug up more of them, with Dr. Owen writing the discoveries on a clipboard. "We still need part of the tail! Keep looking guys!" Rex tells the workers as Dr. Owen patted his head.
"Rex, my boy, never in my life would I ever see each other digging up dinosaur bones together. It feels like a dream come true." Dr. Owen tells his son, side hugging him as he rubbed his head.
"Same here, dad… Same here." Rex replies with a smile, not correcting himself that time.
Unbeknownst to the two of them, a lone figure was spying at them through a pair of binoculars from on top of the excavation site. The person behind the binoculars was hidden thanks to the night, even after they removed the binoculars from their eyes. "Interesting." the person mutters to themselves.
In the shadows, the person was holding what seemed to be a card, but due to the darkness, it was difficult to tell what kind of card it was. It wasn't until the clouds above moved that shined light onto the card, revealing it to be the Albertosaurus card from earlier.
And just like that, nighttime arrived as the sun completely went down as darkness filled the area.
An old man leaning back and forth in his rocking chair outside his house could be seen in the dead of night, with the sun's light reflecting off the full moon as it shined down onto the quiet town below. The old man could be seen smoking a cigarette, with it lazily being placed in his mouth, as he checked the clock tower, noticing how it was close to becoming the next day at 12:00 midnight. The old man took his cigarette out of his mouth and blew smoke into the air as the clock ticked closer to the 12 on the tower, the sounds of crickets only being heard in the dead of night. Just then, the clock ticked to 12 as the tower rung throughout the city, as the sound of an emergency broadcast blared throughout the entire city. What followed next was the sound of a loud ring before a woman began speaking over an intercom, that was being heard throughout the entire town of Monroe, Washington, and the words that followed could chill every bone in even the most toughest of men.
"This is not a test." says the woman over the speaker. "This is your emergency broadcast system announcing the commencement of the Annual Purge sanctioned by the U.S. Government. Weapons of Class 4 and lower have been authorized for use during the Purge. All other weapons are restricted. Government officials of ranking 10 have been granted immunity from the Purge and shall not be harmed. Commencing at the siren, any and all crime, including murder, will be legal for 24 continuous hours. Police, fire, and emergency medical services will be unavailable until tomorrow at 12 A.M. midnight when the Purge concludes. Blessed be our New Founding Fathers and America, a nation reborn. May God be with you all."
After the announcement, a loud, long siren blared across the city as the old man threw his cigarette to the ground, stomping it as he extinguished it's flames. The old man grabbed a shotgun that was beside his rocking chair and cocked it, a sadistic and monstrous glare in his eyes.
"It's time to Purge and release the beast... for it's my right." the old man says in a grim tone.
Outside the city, Rex could be seen staring at the city in the dead of night after hearing what the woman just said over the speaker. "Maaaan, wait until Max how wrong he was about this town." Rex says in a sly tone with a mischievous smile.
"Rex, boy, I don't like how these guys are looking at us." Dr. Owen tells his adoptive son in a scared tone.
(Sometimes I like getting really baked out of mind and just listen to some Indian music so I could have a sort of LSD drug trip type experience. Seriously, if any of you smoke, get really super fucken stoned and just listen to Jogi from Far Cry 4 and you'll feel like you're flying in the air. It's the best thing I have ever done all week.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. Sorry if the fight wasn't great… KOKBYE)
