Natsu sighed as he stood up, cracking his neck as he began walking away from the pile of unconscious thugs. "Well, that was easy..." He sighed as he crossed his hands together and rested them on the back of his head.
"Hey, Natsu!" The Fire Dragonslayer looked up as he saw his fellow flying blue feline glide towards him. "Did you beat up the bad guys?"
Natsu chuckled as he unfolded his arms and flexed his arms. "Damn straight, Happy! They were surprisingly weak though, I don't know why the job asked for such high security."
Happy shrugged his shoulders. "You know that these rich people are weirdos, he'll probably reward you with lots of Jewel!" The Exceed's eyes began to shimmer with excitement. "You know how much fish we can buy?!"
"Hmm, you're right! Time to get lots of food, little buddy!" Natsu pumped his fist into the air followed by Happy's paw.
"Aye, sir!"
Magnolia Township, 11:30 AM
"WE GOT SO CHEATED!" Natsu and Happy exclaimed as they walked through the streets of Magnolia. They both grumbled as Natsu stopped walking and pulled out a bag from his pockets. As he pulled his hand out from his pocket, within his hand was an indigo stone and a folded pink notecard taped beside it.
Natsu grumbled loudly and clenched the stone tightly as he threw his hand up. "That bastard!" He yelled, "I'm gonna go throw this in the ocean!" As he began stomping away, he stopped as he felt Happy's paw on his shoulder, making him turn around to look at the Exceed.
"Natsu, wait. Maybe we can let Lucy or Levy look at it then maybe sell it?" Happy tilted his head which caused Natsu to tilt his head as he pondered on the idea. Natsu crossed his arms, closed his eyes, then nodded and smiled.
"You're right, little buddy! Let's go to the guild and ask! Besides," Natsu placed a hand on his stomach as it began growling. "I need some food after beating up those thugs." The Fire Dragonslayer and Exceed headed towards the Fairy Tail Guild. As they entered, Natsu grinned excitedly as there was a small brawl already going on within the hall, quickly jumping in to join the fight.
"There he goes, typical Natsu." Happy smiled as he shook his head, turned away, and walked toward the booth where Wendy and Carlia were sitting at. "Wendy! Carla!" The blue Exceed jumped up excitedly to fly towards the two. "How are you two? Do you two need any fish?"
"Calm down, Tomcat." Carla placed her paw on Happy's face as she glared at the Exceed. "We don't need any of your fish!"
"Carla, don't be mean to Happy!" Wendy placed one of her hands on the white Exceed's shoulder while the other was placed on the blue Exceed's. "We're ok, Happy. How was the job with you and Natsu?"
"It went ok, Natsu beat all the thugs. Only thing is that we got cheated!"
"Cheated? And how pray tell did you get cheated?" Carla raised an eyebrow as she crossed her arms.
"All we got as a reward was this stupid rock!" Happy frowned as he crossed his arms.
"May we see this rock?" Wendy placed a finger on her lips as she tilted her head.
Happy nodded. "Of course, Natsu!" As Happy turned and called the Fire Dragonslayer, Natsu was flying back towards the three of them, landing in and destroying the booth next to them.
"Damn, Elfman!" Natsu shouted as he began getting up and cracking his knuckles, walking over with a determined glare. "I'll kick your ass for that cheap shot!"
"N-Natsu!" The Fire Dragonslayer turned his face to see the worried face of Wendy Marvell, making his face soften. "Are you alright?!"
"Huh? Oh, yeah! I'm alright, Wendy! No need to worry!" Natsu grinned widely while there was a massive lump on the top of his head with some blood trickling out.
"NATSU! THAT'S NOT OK!" Wendy screamed as she pulled him towards the infirmary. "I need to heal you right now!" Despite his arguing and complaints, the Sky Maiden managed to pull Natsu into the infirmary, leaving behind many Guild members smiling while some snickering.
"Ha! He couldn't handle the strength of a real man!" Elfman then flexed his muscles and smiled cockily.
"Really, Wendy, I'm fine!" Natsu reassured as she placed her hands on his head, filling Natsu with healing energy.
"Now, you are. Geez, you can't keep exerting yourself like that, Natsu!" Wendy pouted as she sat down next to him. "You could have seriously hurt yourself!"
Natsu chuckled and stood up, smiling at the Sky Dragonslayer. "You worry too much!" Just as Natsu finished saying that, Happy came flying in with Lucy, both had worried expressions on their faces.
"NATSU!" Happy comically cried as he flew into the Fire Dragonslayer's chest.
"Geez, I'm fine guys, really!"
"Natsu, you should be glad your head didn't crack open!" Lucy frowned as she placed her hands on her hips. "You should be glad we have Wendy!"
"Yeah, yeah." Natsu sighed and rolled his eyes, turning to look at Wendy, and smiled as he bowed. "Thanks for healing me, it always helps!" Wendy smiled at Natsu's then the Fire Dragonslayer turned to face the Celestial Mage. "Anyways, Lucy! I need your help with something!"
"Is this about the rock you were given? Happy filled me in, let's see it." Lucy looked curious and as Natsu dug into his pockets and pulled it out, her eyes examined the strange-looking rock. It looked almost like a rock that just formed from lava, but why was it indigo? That doesn't make sense. "Is this some kind of igneous rock?"
"A what?" Natsu tilted his head in confusion.
"It's a rock formed by high heat. I know you use fire but is it hot to touch?"
Natsu shook his head as he raised an eyebrow. "To be honest, it's really cold to the touch. Here, touch it."
As Lucy leaned her hand out to Natsu's, she noticed the stone beginning to shrink. 'I guess it's starting to dissolve-' As she studied it, her eyes widened as she realized the stone wasn't shrinking, it was fusing itself with Natsu! Lucy reached for Natsu's hand. "NATSU! QUICK! Throw the stone off! It's merging with you!"
Natsu looked at his hand questionably but his eyes widened as he realized this. "AH! GET IT OFF!" He tried shaking it off and pulling it out but to no avail. Before anyone else could do anything, the last of the stone dissolved completely into Natsu's hand and disappeared. Natsu looked at his hand in shock, slowly turning to face the others.
"... N-Natsu... How do you feel?" Happy was the first to break the silence as Wendy and Lucy nervously cleared their throats.
Natsu looked at his hands and body before tapping his body repeatedly. "I-I feel ok?... Yeah, yeah! I'm ok?! Do I have anything on my body?"
"From what we can see, you look like your typical self." Natsu sighed in relief as Lucy spoke out slowly, that was reassuring. He didn't feel different from before. "I think that you should go home and get some rest, maybe whatever affected you will wear off after sleeping?"
Natsu gulped as he looked at Lucy worryingly. "You don't sound too sure about that, Luce."
"Well, I'm not sure what kind of stone it was. You know what?" Lucy placed her fist in her other hand as she stood straight up. "We should probably have someone watch you while you're home. Someone has to make sure nothing bad happens."
"Are you volunteering yourself, Lucy?" Wendy stood up and leaned over to look at the blonde.
Lucy shook her head and hands. "Unfortunately, not. I want to talk with Levy and figure out what kind of stone that was, I won't be able to fully watch Natsu."
"Oh, well maybe I should then?" Wendy offered. "I'll be able to heal Natsu if anything should happen."
"Heavens! No, you will not, Wendy!" Carla raised her paw and stood next to the Sky Maiden. "If whatever got into Natsu causes him to lash out at you, you won't be able to defend yourself! I will not let that happen!"
"But Carla-!"
"No, she's right Wendy," Natsu spoke out, surprising Carla, Happy, Lucy, and Wendy. "The best thing is for me just to go home by myself. I don't wanna hurt any of you guys, I'll be ok."
"Are you sure, Natsu?" Happy hugged Natsu's leg as he asked sadly, making Natsu smile softly.
"I'll be fine, little buddy. If anything happens, I'll be sure to see Granny Porylusica and Wendy!" Natsu nodded his head, making everyone smile. Natsu then walked out of the infirmary and made his way towards the Guild doors.
"Natsu!" The salmon-colored man stopped and turned to the source of the voice, surprised to see Erza walking toward him.
"E-Erza!" He stuttered. "W-What's going on? Do you need something?" Natsu was surprised as the redhead looked fully at his body and began patting his head.
"I want to make sure you're alright! That was such a heavy fall, are you sure you're alright?" Erza backed away slightly as she looked at Natsu very concerned.
Natsu rubbed his head and smiled sheepishly. "Yeah, I'm good. I swear! I think I'm gonna go head home for the day by myself, I'll probably need some sleep."
"Oh..." Erza said sadly. "Well, you probably need it then."
The tone of the redhead's voice irked Natsu as he raised an eyebrow. "What's up? I could help you with whatever you need if you want?"
With eyes widened slightly, Erza stepped closer to Natsu. "Well, I want you to,"
"Well, well, well," Erza was cut off by the arrogant voice of Elfman Strauss. "Seems like the little man has finally recovered, what's the matter? Did the blow from these mighty manly muscles incapacitate you?"
Erza turned to face the tall man and crossed her arms, looking very annoyed at his sudden arrogance. "Elfman, you shouldn't be acting like this to your fellow guild member! Natsu is your friend as well as your family member! You should be apologizing!" The redhead glared at the Take Over wizard, causing him to slightly quiver at her gaze.
"Y-Yeah, w-well, he joined the brawl knowing what might happen!" Elfman stammered out, growing more scared as Erza uncrossed her arms and stepped closer to him.
"It shouldn't matter! You're supposed to take care of your fellow members! Apologize or I will-!" The redhead stopped as Natsu placed a hand between the two mages, surprising them both.
"Let it go, Erza. I lost because I wasn't paying attention to his punch and got injured. I'm not in the mood for an argument."
Erza was taken back by this and placed a hand on Natsu's shoulder, making the Fire Dragonslayer turn to look at her. "Natsu..."
"Ha!" Both Erza and Natsu turned their heads to watch Elfman laugh arrogantly. "I guess the little Salamander will do whatever Erza will tell him! I guess she's got you on a pretty tight leash huh, Natsu?" Elfman leaned back as he continued laughing. "I guess since she's too manly for you, hell! She's much too manly and strong-willed for any man so I guess whipping you around is going to be the only way she'll get a man!"
Erza began lifting her right hand and began flexing her fingers as she stared at the Beast Soul mage, glaring at him menacingly and the malicious intent was flooding so out from the redhead that much of the Fairy Tail guild were all quivering in fear. Just as Erza fully clenched her armored fist and raised it to strike the tall guffawing man, she was stopped as Natsu stepped in front of her with his arm extended. "Elfman..." Natsu spoke in a serious tone as he glared at the tall dark-skinned man. "You can talk bad all you want about me, I don't care. But!" Natsu stepped forward and grabbed Elfman's lime-green shirt, pulling the taller man down to face the Fire Dragonslayer. "I won't stand for you to talk bad about anyone on my team or any of my friends! Especially not Erza! She's too precious to me!" The redhead placed a hand on her chest plate as she stared at Natsu with surprised eyes and her cheeks dusting red tint.
As Elfman quickly grabbed Natsu's hand, Natsu lifted Elfman slightly and threw the taller man into the guild's walls, making the Take Over mage groan in pain as he got back up. As Elfman was placed a hand on the floor to recover, he looked up to Natsu standing before him with a hardened glare. "You. Me. The Training Grounds. We'll settle this there."
Outer Edge of Magnolia, Fairy Tail Guild Training Grounds, 4:55 PM
As the wind blew through the plains and nearby trees, Natsu and Elfman looked at each other with intense glares, Natsu was frowning as he raised his fists while Elfman smirked while crossing his arms. Standing nearby was Erza, Lucy, Wendy, Lisanna, Gray, Gajeel, and the three Exceeds.
"Natsu, please, you don't have to do this!" Erza surprisingly stepped forward with worry-filled eyes. "You don't need to fight Elfman, this fight is meaningless!" The redhead stopped yelling as she felt a hand on her shoulder, she turned her head to see Gray shaking his head as he sighed.
"I doubt not even you can stop Natsu this time, Erza." The raven-haired man scratched the back of his head, he chuckled nervously as he looked back at Natsu and Elfman. "It's been a while since we've seen Natsu this mad before. I guess Elfman really struck a nerve huh?" Both mages stepped back to where the others were standing but Erza still looked at Natsu concerned.
"Asking to fight right after you got healed up, I guess you're just a glutton for punishment huh, Natsu?" Elfman placed a hand on his hips as he leaned his head back, smiling cockily at Natsu.
Natsu began chuckling. "The only one who's a glutton for punishment is you, Elfman." He then bent his knees as he lifted his fists in front of his face. "I'll make sure you pay for what you said!"
Elfman lifted his hands up and leaned forward. "I'll end this quickly so Erza won't be too ashamed!" Elfman's body sparkled with yellowish energy as he ran towards Natsu. "BEAST SOUL: WERETIGER!" As the light dissipated, Elfman's hair grew into a longer and thicker mane while his body was covered with yellow fur and black spots as he became a feline humanoid. "Here I come, Natsu!" Elfman jumped towards the Fire Dragonslayer, swinging his clawed hand towards Natsu but was surprised as the Fire Dragonslayer dodged his swing. Elfman continued to swing his palms, getting annoyed at how Natsu artily avoided his attacks. Just as the Take Over mage swung towards Natsu's feet, the salmon-haired man jumped into the air and lit his left foot ablaze.
"FIRE DRAGON'S TALON!" Natsu struck the side of Elfman's head with his fire-covered foot, sending the feline-humanoid to the ground as blood spilled from his mouth. As Elfman jumped backward to recover, Natsu was already within close proximity of the Beast Soul mage.
'When did he?!' Elfman thought frantically before he realized too late that Natsu's right hand was already ablaze. 'Oh shit!'
"FIRE DRAGON'S IRON FIST!" Natsu drove his flaming fist into Elfman's chest, slightly burning him and sending the Beast Soul wizard into some nearby trees, sending Elfman flying into a large tree and causing it to splinter as he crashed into it. As Elfman fell to the ground, he wiped some of the blood that spilled from his mouth and nose with his usual hands as he reverted back to his human self. Natsu stood before Elfman with a hardened gaze and his arms crossed. "Did you have enough yet? I wouldn't want to embarrass you in front of your little sister." Natsu smirked as he watched Elfman glare at him.
Elfman stood up and tightened his arms while they were hanging to his sides. "Just 'cause you got some lucky hits doesn't mean this fight is over, Natsu!" The familiar yellowish energy covered the Beast Soul wizard again but expanded, the light casting a shadow as Elfman jumped towards Natsu. "BEAST SOUL: APE!" As Elfman hovered above Natsu, his body had changed into a massive red burgundy-colored monkey and Elfman slammed his gigantic monkey hands onto the ground, narrowly missing Natsu but creating a crater and sending a shockwave, causing Natsu to stumble and catch his feet. Elfman smiled as he clenched his fist and drove it into Natsu.
As Natsu caught his breath and was flying backward, he realized that he was getting too close to catching into his friends and winced but he flipped mid-air and flew upwards by igniting his feet and propelling himself skywards. As Natsu flew high enough to dodge the others, he landed on a tree branch and lunged forward with both his hands covered in his orange flames. With streams of fire flowing from his hands, Natsu crossed his hands and swung the fire towards the ape-human. "FIRE DRAGON'S WING ATTACK!" As the explosion from the flames evaporated, Elfman was standing with his large ape arms dusted slightly with smoke and burn marks. However, before Natsu could make another move, Elfman quickly grabbed one of Natsu's legs and held him tightly with his massive hand, swinging the Fire Dragonslayer in the air until Natsu was displaying symptoms of dizziness.
"Time for you to lay down!" Elfman then Natsu over his shoulder and threw him to the ground, making his back make an imprint on the grassy floor as he crashed back-first. As Natsu stumbled back up, Elfman was just on top of the Fire Dragonslayer, a giant fist coming barreling towards Natsu. "Now, time for you to be sent flying!"
Natsu gritted his teeth and readied himself for the impact of the punch, he reached out his hands to catch the blow but missed and released a thundering clap. As the punch was barreling towards Natsu's face, the Fire Dragonslayer closed his eyes and braced for the impact. But... He felt nothing.
'Huh?' As Natsu opened his eyes slowly, he realize that Elfman's fist was inches from his face and it was just held there, not moving. Surprisingly, Elfman was standing there with the same determined fighting look and everyone on the side seemed to be frozen in place with shocked expressions. As Natsu stepped backward, he lifted his head to see the birds float aimlessly in the air and the trees were held in place. Natsu's eyes widened from shock as he realized what was going on. "Have I...? Did I stop time?!" He asked aloud in utter astonishment. Natsu quickly ran over to Erza and the others, waving his hands in front of them but to his avail, none of them were responding to the Fire Dragonslayer. "They really can't see me!" Natsu exclaimed as his mouth flew open in shock. "What am I going to do now?! That stupid rock really did do something to me! How do I?!" He stopped running his hands through his hair as he slid his hands down to his side, smirking as he stood in front of Elfman. "Well, let's see if I can do more than just stop time!" The Fire Dragonslayer lunged towards the ape-human with both his hands ablaze once more.
"CRIMSON LOTUS: FIRE DRAGON'S FIST!" Striking Elfman repeatedly, the ape-man's face and chest were covered with circular flame orbs. However, the flames did not explode and instead laid on Elfman's body and caused him to slowly feel the impact. After finishing strikingly his blows, Natsu walked around Elfman and stood a few feet behind him. "Now, how am I going to reverse this?" The Fire Dragonslayer asked aloud as he tilted his head. He raised his head as he stood up. "Well, if it worked the first time..." Natsu smiled as he clasped his hands together once again, letting out a resounding clap once again.
As the sound waves echoed, everyone and everything in the vicinity begin moving again. Elfman slowly but surely felt the impact of the blows and as time flowed normally, the ape-man was being blown back as he was flying backward, Elfman coughed up spit and blood but his eyes widened as he was darting towards Natsu. "How did you?!"
"FIRE DRAGON'S CRUSHING FANG!" Natsu swiped his already burning hand towards Elfman's face, causing Elfman to crash into some trees and break them, his body reverting back to his human form as he landed on the ground. As the Beast Soul Mage recovered, Natsu stepped in front of him with a smirk. "Had enough, Elfman?"
"Big Brother Elfman!" Lisanna reached out as she shrieked.
"What the?! How did Natsu move so fast?!" Gray stepped forward as he looked shocked. Lucy, Wendy, the Exceeds, and including Erza looked shocked as they watched the fight. All of the people on the sidelines couldn't rationalize what was going on. One second, Natsu was going to get pummeled and the next, he was standing before Elfman cockily. It was so bizarre.
"Now, take back what you said, Elfman! All of it!" Natsu shouted as he clenched his right fist. "Else, I'll show you no mercy!"
Elfman began chuckling as he wiped his mouth, standing up. "You just got lucky with all of those hits! I don't know you managed to dodge so well but you won't get a second chance!" Elfman then stood up completely and raised his arms to the sky as his body glowed brightly. "BEAST SOUL: THE BEAST!" Soon enough, Elfman towered over Natsu and his body had changed into a blend of different creatures, making him look like a ferocious chimera. Elfman clenched his right clawed hand and brought his hand back then struck Natsu in the chin with a devasting uppercut, and caused Natsu to fly into the air. As Natsu unclenched his teeth and opened his eyes, he saw that Elfman had already jumped into the air and brought his clasped hands down onto the Fire Dragonslayer.
As Natsu stood up after crashing to the ground, he saw Elfman barreling toward him. "You can't escape now, Natsu!" Elfman shouted as he was beginning to clap his hands onto Natsu. "It's over!" Just as both massive clawed hands were rushing him, Natsu looked at Elfman with a determined glare.
Natsu clasped his hands together, making his own booming strike. As the clap resounded, yet again everyone and everything froze in place. The world had again become still in time and Elfman froze in place. "You're right, Elfman. It is over!" Natsu jumped towards Elfman, striking the beast-man repeatedly before clenching Elfman's neck. Natsu lit his hand ablaze as he grabbed his other hand, cascading Elfman in heavy flames. "FIRE DRAGON'S GRIP STRIKE!" Suddenly, as the beast-man was set ablaze, his body was knocked back slightly and Natsu landed back on the ground. Natsu smirked as he brought his hands up and clapped them once again, as the clap thundered, time flowed normally once again. The flames that were covering him blasted onto Elfman and burned the surrounding area, making the Beast Soul revert back to his human and fall backward on the ground unconscious.
As Natsu walked toward Elfman, he fell to one knee as he felt his head pounding. It felt like he was having a severe migraine and he rubbed his head to soothe his head. "NATSU!" The Fire Dragonslayer turned his head to see his guildmates running towards him, Erza leading the way. Erza and Wendy rushed to his side, Erza holding him up. "Are you hurt anywhere, Natsu? Maybe we should have Wendy look at you once more?" Erza looked at him with eyes of concern.
Natsu waved his hand and smiled reassuringly. "No, I'm fine. I swear it!" As he said that, his head pounded once more and he held it. Erza's eyes widened as she held Natsu's chest.
"You're not alright! Natsu, you're hurting! You need someone to watch over you for the rest of the day! And I volunteer myself!" The redhead backed away slightly from Natsu and stood confidently. Natsu's eyes widened as he began waving his hands and head.
"N-No, you don't need to do that, Erza! Seriously, I'm fine!"
"Actually, I second that option!" Natsu turned his head to see Gray rubbing his chin and then nodding his head. "You won the fight, sure but you did something weird during that fight and someone has to watch you."
Natsu raised his hand to speak but before he could, Lucy stepped forward. "I agree so that's the third vote!"
"I agree with everyone else, Natsu. Someone has to be there so you'll be ok." Wendy spoke earnestly as he held both of her hands.
"Aye, sir! You need to be watched, Natsu!" Happy chirped in as he raised his paw while Carla nodded her head.
"Indeed, you need someone to watch you. What you did was incredibly insane and I'm sure that Erza will make sure you'll be alright."
Erza smiled and nodded her head. "Well, Natsu, that's five votes to one. I suppose everyone is in agreement. Shall we make way to your home?"
Natsu swallowed his spit as he stood up. "I-I guess so..." And the two mages soon made their way to Natsu's home.
Deep in Magnolia's Forest Range, Natsu's House, 7:00 PM
Natsu swallowed his own spit as he sat at his kitchen table. His hands ~ and covered in sweat at the current situation. He was in his house alone with Erza Scarlet... The woman who drove his heart wild. He was hoping just to stay home alone but after how he reacted to Elfman's taunting, it would appear that being left alone was out of the question. 'Craappp...' Natsu thought nervously as he smiled shakily while Erza was preparing food in the kitchen. 'How am I going to control myself when the girl I love is home alone with me?! What do I do?!' As Natsu was complimenting his current situation, he lifted his head as he heard Erza walk towards him with a plate of piping hot food.
"I hope you enjoy this, Natsu. I was able to whip something together with that you have in the kitchen." Erza smiled softly as she placed a place of baked chicken, steamed vegetables, and white rice. Natsu began drooling at the delicious platter before him, making Erza giggle. "You did work up an appetite after today, why don't you eat?"
Natsu looked at his arm and wipes the drool from it as he looked up at the redhead sheepishly. "Sorry about that, Erza." He picked up his culinary utensils and began eating the food, smiling contently as he ate and quickly finishing off the food. Natsu rubbed his stomach as he sighed in delight. "That was great, thank you Erza."
"No problem, Natsu. I'm just happy that you enjoyed it." Erza blushed slightly as she looked away sheepishly. "I'll cook for you whenever you would like."
Natsu blushed slightly before he cleared his throat, grabbing the plates as he stood up. "I'll clean the dishes as thanks for the great meal!"
"What? No need to do that, Natsu! I will clean up." Erza stood up and began following the Fire Dragonslayer to the kitchen. As she got closer to him, Natsu shook his head and waved his hand.
"You're my guest and you've made me a delicious meal so it's only fair that I do something in return. Don't worry, you just relax for now." Natsu smiled reassuringly which caused Erza to smile softly. As Natsu was cleaning off the dishes, he then turned his head slightly to look at Erza as she sat on the couch. "So, what did you want of me, Erza?"
Erza's eyes widened slightly then she turned away, beginning to twirl her scarlet locks with her hand. "W-Well, I just wanted to ask you for your opinion on something."
As Natsu finished cleaning, he walked out of the kitchen and turned to face the redhead entirely. "Sure, I'll try to help the best I can."
Erza stood up and cleared her throat before looking at Natsu with an earnest expression, making Natsu raise an eyebrow at her sudden change of attitude. "I... I have someone whose been on my mind for months now. He's been driving me crazy and I can't seem to get him out of my mind. It seems just seeing him causes my heart to be stirred up. However, whenever he and I are alone together, I get so happy and I want to be honest with him about my feelings but I'm scared."
"You're scared that he won't feel the same way. That he will reject you and leave you, right?"
Erza's eyes widened as Natsu looked at her with a sad smile. "Yes, how did you know?"
"I know because I'm struggling with that as well.
