Chapter 4: The Intruder
Hey everyone I'm back with a new chapter. Now I have tons of surprises in store for this one. I hope you like what I have planned. A true little scare before Halloween. Please Review and Enjoy.
We find ourselves in the living room of the Owl House as Luz and Minato were sitting down watching King wrestle with a sock over his nose.
"And here we have the most fearsome creature in the world, the king of demons. Facing his natural enemy, the ducky sock." Luz said recording it with her phone trying to sound like a nature documentary.
"Who will win this fierce battle of titans?" Minato asks before King rips the sock to shreds.
"Where are you now ducky sock?" King asks.
"So why did you call us here again?" Luz asks.
"Oh yeah." King said leaping up onto a table. "Human Luz and Hybrid Minato, you've been so obsessed with witchcraft that you haven't learned anything about my kind. Prepare yourself for Demon 101." King pulls back a blanket revealing tons of pictures and put on a fake professor hat. "Demons like me are grim tricksters of the twilight, creatures of sulfur and bone."
"And cute little paws." Luz adds causing King to sigh.
"And cute little paws. True. We live only to create chaos and misery. Our only weaknesses are purified water and passive‐aggressive comments." King said.
"Wow who knew you guys were so sensitive." Minato smirks.
"Even demons have inner demons. The most powerful demon of all is the Snaggleback." King said showing a picture of a creature with a spiky shell. "It's a—"
Before King could finish Luz started adding tons of stickers and emojis to appear alongside King.
"Ooh don't forget a cute kitty emoji." Minato adds.
"The King of Demons doesn't want kitties!" King snaps causing Minato and Luz to chuckle. "Come on guys, this information could save your life."
"Alright, alright, We'll stop." Minato said.
"I'm here and ready to listen." Luz said when thunder roared.
"Uh oh, looks like it's going to rain." King said causing Luz to smile.
"I love the rain." Luz smiles going outside.
"Luz wait!" King said but Luz walked out.
"I always love feeling the first few drops in my hair." Luz said before looking down at a flower. "I bet you do too."
However when the rain came down the flower started to sizzle surprising her.
"What?" Luz gasps.
"Boiling rain! Everybody inside now!" Eda yells running over and tackling Luz into the Owl House. "Phew that was close, but the important thing is you didn't get hurt."
Looking over Eda saw that Luz had knocked into Minato and the two of them had hit King's board making all of them groan in pain.
"Yep not hurt." Luz groans.
All over the Boiling Isles, everyone was eager to get out of the boiling rain.
As Luz and Minato stood by the door King put a band aid on Luz's arm.
"Look now we're boo boo buddies." King said putting one on his skull mask causing Luz to squeal.
"Oh my gosh I love you so much." Luz smiles.
"Still I wasn't expecting boiling rain. Even the weather here is wild." Minato said looking to Eda who was making a forcefield.
"Yeah, we don't have weather. We have plagues, gorenados, shale hail, painbows." Eda lists.
"It's like a rainbow but looking at it turns you inside out." King said causing Minato and Luz to cringe.
"So, until the boiling rain stops, no one is allowed outside tonight." Eda said.
"And if the rain doesn't get you, the Snaggleback will." King said showing them his book. "They wander the rain feeding on boiled tourists."
"Well, whatever the case, this force field spell should protect the house from boiling rains and made‐up demons." Eda smirks.
"Hoot! Well, hurry it up with that force field. That rain is getting closer to my precious stucco." Hooty said.
"Yeah, yeah, I got it." Eda said before slamming her staff down creating a force field around the Owl House.
"Wow. Someday I'd like to be as cool as Eda the Owl Lady. Magical, sassy, surprisingly foxy for her age." Luz said as Eda walked back to them.
"Makes me wonder what my dad was like here." Minato said.
"Why do they call you the Owl Lady anyway?" Luz asks.
"Cause I'm so wise." Eda smirks.
"Cause she coughs up rat bones." Hooty said.
"I think it's because she gets distracted by shiny objects." King said.
"No I don't." Eda said when King pulls out his pen and clicks the top lighting it up causing Eda's eyes to widen. "It sparkles and shimmers. It shines and delights. I must have it for my nest." Eda leaps at it but King pulls it away.
"Okay I'm thinking it leans more towards that one." Minato said.
"You have a nest? I want a nest! Nest party!" Luz said helping Eda up.
"Ugh that force field took a lot out of me." Eda groans.
"Uh‐oh. Moving a little slow. Age finally catching up to ya?" King asks when Eda yanks his hat over his eyes blinding him. "Aaah! Darkness!"
"This is perfect. Since we'll be stuck in the house all night, Eda won't have any excuse not to teach us something." Luz realized.
"But don't you wanna finish our lesson? I was gonna let you scratch a demon's tummy. Me." King said when Minato picks him up.
"You mean like this?" Minato starts rubbing King's tummy.
"Awww yes that's the stuff." King said kicking his foot like a little puppy.
"I'm sorry King but…Magic." Luz said walking away causing King to frown.
"You know what nevermind." King said leaping out of Minato's arms frustrated.
Walking through a dress zone, Eda snaps her fingers and walks out dressed in her sleepy wear and lays down on the sofa to see Luz looking down at her.
"Eda, have I told you how rad your fang looks today?" Luz asks.
"Whatever it is, no." Eda said.
"Uh, and your hair is like... girl." Luz said as Minato walks over.
"I'm not teaching you two magic. I'm sleepy. I'm a sleepy little owl." Eda said covering her body with a blanket.
"Come on Eda we've been here a week you haven't taught us a thing. I barely know how fight with this thing?" Minato said holding out the Monado.
"How am I supposed to earn my witch's staff if I don't know any spells?" Luz asks.
"No. Sleep." Eda said pulling the blanket over her face.
"There's gotta be a way to wake her up." Luz said.
"Luz can't you wait a little? I mean I know you wanna learn magic." Minato said.
"Minato you can do so many amazing things with your magic. I wanna do that too." Luz said putting her hands together. "Please. I need this."
Looking at her pouting face Minato pauses before sighing. "I got an idea."
As Eda tried to get comfy, she suddenly heard a click causing her to gasp. "Sparkle thing."
Looking up she saw Minato clicking the pen turning the light on and off.
"Oh you want this?" Minato asks holding it out but before Eda could take it he pulls it away. "Teach me and Luz one spell and you can have your sparkle thing."
"I respect your cunning, but I also hate you for it." Eda said narrowing her eyes before standing up. "Just fyi I'm not gonna teach you something from your anime or manga things this is actual magic. You got your dad's journal?"
"Yes ma'am." Minato said running upstairs to his room.
"Luz get my staff." Eda orders.
"Yes ma'am." Luz said running to get it.
Soon they were sitting down as Eda opened Miguel's spellbook.
"Alright since you never had a real teacher you had no clue how to do any of these spells. Well let me tell you wind is a tricky element. Mastered correctly you could be very powerful." Eda said before flipping to one page. "Ah here's one that's pretty easy."
Showing the page to him Minato looks at the contents. "Reinforcement Magic?"
"Wind has many properties. One thing your dad was proud of was using the power of wind to boost his other physical attributes: his strength, speed, yada, yada, yada." Eda said causing Luz to gasp.
"Just like what Wendy could do in Fairy Tail." Luz smiles.
"Now you mainly do spells where you release wind but for this, you have to be able to hold it and have it surround your body. Make you stronger." Eda said handing him the book.
"Wow." Minato said looking at it.
"Since you're self-taught I'll leave you to try and learn this." Eda said before turning to Luz.
"Finally." Luz squeals.
"If you want a witch's staff like mine, don't make me repeat myself." Eda yawns. "Witch's staffs have power embedded into them."
"Gimme." Luz said wanting to grab it.
"But before one is earned, every witch needs to know how to cast spells on their own." Eda said tossing her staff to the side. "Now since you don't have much experience, I'm gonna show you how to make…light." Eda spins her finger creating a magic circle and from it a ball of light appeared.
"Whoa." Minato and Luz said in awe.
"Yawn. Who needs another boring spell lesson when you could be learning all the fun ways a demon could kill you." King said holding up a drawing of a demon with big teeth. "Look how teethy. Bite, bite."
"Ssh I need to focus." Luz shushes.
"Now, humans think magic is made out of thin air, but that's stupid. Everything comes from something. Let me ask you, Minato when you first realized you could use magic where did you think it came from?" Eda asks.
"Uh well I was sad that my dad was gone and I felt horrible. Then when I found this journal, I felt overjoyed. I thought I had a way to find him again. Does magic…come from the heart?" Minato asks.
"Actually, you're right." Eda smiles causing Luz to squeal with joy loving this. "Now seriously, it comes from a sac of magic bile attached to a witch's heart." Eda said pulling out a picture of a sac attached to a heart.
"Ugh I have that inside me?" Minato asks grossed out.
"Well I'm not entirely sure how big or small it is since you're a hybrid but yep that's how you can do magic." Eda said.
"Can I keep that?" Luz asks.
"No." Eda said putting it away. "Now everything depends on the spell circle. The bigger the circle, the more powerful the spell."
"But I never made one before and I can do magic." Minato said.
"Because what you do isn't technically Boiling Isles magic. Your magic comes from your imagination and these anime and manga things you obsess over." Eda said as a giant ball of light came from the big circle.
"Well that helps Minato but how can I, little ol' Luz, do spells if I don't have a magic bile sac?" Luz asks.
"You know, I'm not actually sure." Eda admits.
"What?!" Minato and Luz gasp.
"I know witches did magic differently in the past, but I never bothered to figure out how." Eda chuckles.
"Are you kidding me?!" Minato said.
"Eda!" Luz said annoyed.
"Don't worry, you two will figure this out." Eda said rubbing their heads before stretching. "Now I need to lie down."
"Already?" Minato said annoyed by this.
"Wait! I need to see you do the circle thingy again. I'll record it on my phone this time. Smile! You're on camera. One more spell won't kill you." Luz said taking out her phone.
"Ugh. Fine." Eda groans making the circle. "Now you see the spell circle is really key because—" Before Eda could finish, she passed out falling to the ground.
"Well, looks like one more spell did kill Eda." King said causing Minato and Luz to panic.
"Oh no my obsession with learning magic has killed Eda! I'm a monster!" Luz panics.
"Eda?" Minato asks poking her when King comes over and bops her on the nose.
"Yeah she's out cold. Bap." King laughs hitting her again.
"King." Minato glares.
"What? Just making sure." King said.
"We should get help, right?" Luz asks running to the door.
"Luz wait!" Minato said stopping her. "Boiling Rain remember?" Minato points.
"No let her try, it'll be funny." Hooty said when Minato slams the door. "Ow!"
"But what if Eda's dead?" Luz asks.
"Shiny thing…nest." Eda said in her sleep.
"Remember when her head got cut off last week? That woman can survive anything. She's probably just tired from staying up all night chasing shrews and voles." King said.
"Good point." Minato recalls.
"Still we can't just leave her here." Luz said.
Soon Luz and King were carrying Eda by the feet and Minato was carrying her upper half into Eda's room where a big nest was.
"Okay on three. One, two, three." Minato said as they lifted Eda into it.
"Whoo. I think Eda needs to cut back on your cooking Minato." King smirks.
"Like you're one to talk. You eat as much as her." Minato smirks.
"Sorry for pushing you, Miss Eda. Please don't hurt me when you wake up." Luz said.
"Same for me." Minato said.
"Should I bap her again?" King asks.
"Just let her rest, you little goober. Come on. Let's go downstairs." Luz said.
"Come on King." Minato said as they walked out.
Turning around King baps Eda one more time before running out giggling.
Downstairs, King was drawing one of his demons when he noticed Minato on the staircase reading the journal on the Reinforcement Spell while Luz was trying to do the magic circle.
"This is all she does. Why you gotta be so cryptic, Owl Lady?" Luz groans looking at the footage.
"Hey, you know what's really cryptish? Let me tell you about the most spine‐chilling demon. Smoochy-Pie the Sweetie Baby! He's... He's a lot more threatening than his name implies." King said walking over.
"Not now, King. I want to figure out this spell so I can do magic like Eda and Minato. But if I don't have a magic sac, what's the point? I'll just be twirling my fingers around unmagically forever." Luz groans.
"Why do you wanna learn magic so badly?" King asks.
"Because I was a nobody back home. The only friend I had was Minato and when I saw him do all these amazing spells I…I wished I could do it to. Be someone, like him." Luz said getting his attention.
"How did you and Minato become friends in the first place?" King asks causing Luz to sit down and smile.
"I'll never forget that day. I was just beginning middle school and I was just getting into reading Azura and I loved it." Luz smiles little did she know Minato was listening in on this.
Flashback:
We find ourselves on the school playground where all the kids were playing games.
In one area, a young Luz was playing with figures of Azura doing her own battle.
"Blam Blam you are defeated." Luz said mimicking explosions. "And the Good Witch Azura saves the day." Luz said raising her hand in triumph.
"What's this?" A kid asks taking her Azura figure.
"Hey give that back!" Luz said but saw two boys laughing at her.
"She still plays with dolls? What a loser." One laughs.
"Hey maybe I can make dolly fly!" One said tossing Azura into the air only for it come down and the wand to break off.
"Stop it!" Luz said trying to get it back but they pushed her away.
Luz started to sniffle and tear up at this when suddenly a figure came in and punched the two boys.
"Leave her alone!" Looking up Luz saw a young Minato with his goggles over his eyes and scarf around his neck.
"Oh great it's goodey goodey Nakamura." One said.
"I said back off!" Minato repeats before tackling the two boys wrestling the Azura figure out of their hands causing Luz to look at him in awe.
When the two boys walk away screaming Minato picks up the wand piece that broke off.
"Here you go." Minato said.
"Uh thanks." Luz said taking them back.
"Sorry about what happened back there. Some people are the worst. Worst than Hecate am I right?" Minato asks causing Luz to gasp.
"You read Azura too?" Luz asks.
"Yeah she's one of my favorite books." Minato smiles before holding out his hand. "I'm Minato."
"Call me Luz." She smiles shaking it.
"So Luz wanna come with me and we get Azura fixed up? We can glue her wand back in the art room." Minato offers.
"You know if I didn't know any better I would think you were some hero charging in to save the day." Luz smirks.
"So what does that make you the Damsel in distress?" Minato smiles.
Seeing this a faint blush appeared on Luz's face before he helped her get her doll fixed.
Flashback End:
"After that day Minato became the best friend I could ever ask for." Luz said.
"Wow, quite a story but the question is why did Minato just jump in like that?" King asks.
"Because they were bullying her and I hate bullies." Minato said startling them.
"How much did you hear?" Luz asks.
"The whole thing. I remember that day too. The day you and I became a team." Minato smiles walking over.
"You always were there for me when I needed you." Luz smiles.
"I could say the same for you." Minato said as they looked at each other.
"Are you two about to kiss?" King asks causing them to freeze.
"What?" Minato and Luz said surprised as a blush appeared on both their faces.
"So uh how goes learning your dad's spell?" Luz asks nervously.
"Uh well I'm trying but it's not easy." Minato said equally nervous.
"Well show me what you got." Luz said.
"Okay here goes. Eda said I need to focus my magic but wrap it around my body like an aura." Minato said looking at his father's journal before putting it down. Taking a deep breath Minato made a blue aura flow around his feet but when he took off for a run small puffs of magic spit out and when he tried to move quicker he slipped on a piece of paper and fell to the ground.
"Ooh that's gotta hurt." King winces.
"Minato!" Luz gasps running over to help him up. "Are you okay?"
"Ugh I've been better. Still gotta get used to doing this right. I can't make sense of dad's strategies." Minato groans when Luz noticed a bruise on his knee.
"Hold on." Luz said putting a bandaid on his knee. "Now you're a Boo-Boo buddy like us."
"Thanks Luz. Looks like we're both struggling to learn." Minato said.
"Well maybe I can help." King said getting their attention. "If I help you two learn these spells could we finish our lessons?"
"Oh, yes, yes. You can teach me about demons all week if you help me learn this spell." Luz said excited.
"Sure thing King." Minato nods.
"Well, she said witches used to do magic differently, so there has to be a way, right? And I have a theory." King said showing them a drawing. "Every day I notice Eda sneaking drinks of this special elixirs, see? Then she always gets a boost of energy, see? I think that's where she gets her powers. And I know where to get some."
"You do?" Minato asks.
"Hai." King said.
"Thank you so much, you're a prince." Luz said hugging him.
"King. I'm King." King corrects.
"Right sorry." Luz said letting go.
"But do you really think this'll work?" Minato asks.
"Minato this is different to how you've learned before. Sometimes you need to think different approaches to how you've done things before." King said.
"I guess you have a point." Minato said.
Making his way into the Eda's room, King looked around for the elixir.
"Now where could it be?" King asks when his foot almost stepped into a trap. "Ha! Nice try!" King said as the trap stood up and revealed an eye.
"Nah, my heart wasn't in it." The trap said walking away.
On Eda's nightstand, King saw an elixir with golden liquid in it.
Climbing up King read the tag. "An Elixir a day. Cryptic." King said ripping the tag off and putting it in his collar before taking it.
Jumping down King looks to the sleeping Eda before walking out.
In the kitchen, Luz and Minato were sitting down when King reveals the elixir.
"Got it." King declares.
"Wow. I can't believe I'm about to learn magic. Real magic. This is historic." Luz said.
"Just be sure to save some for me." Minato said as Luz reached for it first.
As she was about to take a sip loud thunder echoes startling her causing her to drop the elixir and it shattered hitting the ground.
"No!" Minato gasps.
"Golden elixir. Gone! This is awful." Luz said.
"Who even needs a light spell when we have tons of lamps?" King said trying to brush this off when all the lamps suddenly shut off.
"You were saying?" Minato asks.
"Hooty controls the house lights. He probably just fell asleep." King groans when they heard a loud crashing noise.
"Hoot! Hoot!" Hooty screams.
"Hooty!" Luz gasps.
Acting quickly Minato grabs the Monado and they ran out to see a large shadowy creature had broken down the door and ran its claws along it.
Growling the creature ran off as they ran to Hooty.
"Hooty are you in there?" Minato asks concerned as Luz checked him.
"Whatever did this escaped into the rain. What could survive that?" Luz asks.
"Oh, my gosh. The Snaggleback! It feeds during the rains. It must have stumbled across our house and seen us inside." King said when they heard a roar.
Running to the edge of the force field they saw the shadowy creature jump through the upstairs window.
"And now it's in the house." Minato panics.
"This is terrifying. So why do you look so happy?" Luz asks looking to King who had big happy eyes.
"Because this could be a lesson. This would be a great way for you to see a wild demon up close and personal." King said.
"You wanna go towards the creepy sounds? No way." Luz said.'
"Yeah that's insane King. What if that thing spots us?" Minato asks.
"What if Eda gets eaten? She's upstairs and defenseless because you two knocked her out." King reminds causing them both to groan realizing he was right.
Putting on various, pads and pillows, Luz grabs a hockey stick, Minato grabbed his Monado and King grabbed a stuffed rabbit as the three of them made their way up the stairs with Luz using her phone as a light and Minato was behind her ready to attack.
"Now I know how it feels to be in a horror movie." Luz gulps.
"Yeah…not a fan of this." Minato said when they noticed Eda's door opened a little bit.
Slowly they looked to each other and nodded.
Opening the door, they saw Eda's window had been broken down and Eda wasn't in her nest.
"Eda!" Minato and Luz gasp running in.
"She got snaggle‐backed!" King said as Minato and Luz ran to the nest.
Reaching inside Luz picked up the pillow to reveal slash marks on it.
"No! Slash marks. King! You're the demon expert. I need your help." Luz said when a small picture fell out of the pillow.
"What the?" Minato said picking that up.
"I'll go get my demon book." King said running off to get it little did he know there was a snarling noise.
A few minutes later, King came running in with his books.
"Wait, wait First Edition or second?" King asks before gasping seeing that they were gone. "Luz? Minato? The Snaggleback got them!"
Suddenly King heard snarling and movement down the hall.
"You craven beast. Give me back my boo‐boo buddies!" King said running after it only to see one of Luz's shoes and Minato's scarf lying in front of a door. "No." King gasps picking them up.
Wrapping the scarf around him and holding the shoe King walks into the closet and sees a shadowy figure.
"There is nowhere for you to run!" King pulls back the curtain to see a Snaggleback but it was small and less pointy. "Snaggleback? Wow. You are a lot shorter in person"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I‐I just needed a place to hide from the rains." Snaggleback stutters.
"Then why did you break down our door and take my friends? That's not cool, man. Bad Snaggleback." King said.
"I‐I didn't do any of that stuff. I snuck in through a window just now." It said confusing him.
"Huh?" King said when a hand ripped through the ceiling and grabbed the Snaggleback.
"Oh no! A Twist!" It screams being pulled out.
Whimpering King looks to the door and sees a large scary creature spit out the Snaggleback's shell before growling at King.
"Stay back. Hey, hey. I am the king of demons, okay? And as such, I demand you to barf my friends back up." King said causing the beast to roar before swinging its claws at him.
Yelping King ran out of the way and out the door with the beast right behind him.
As King turns a corner a hand grabs him and pulls him into Eda's room.
Gulping King paused as the beast slowly walked down the hall before seeing Luz and Minato were the ones who saved him.
"Luz? Minato?" King gasps.
"Oh thank goodness you're safe." Luz smiles.
"What happened?" King asks.
"After we saw Eda was gone we got nervous and went looking for you but that beast destroyed a window and my scarf flew off." Minato said.
"And then I tripped and lost my shoe. Oh hey you found them." Luz said noticing he had them on him.
"Oh uh here." King said as Minato put his scarf back on but when Luz raised her foot to put her shoe on King noticed something.
"Hey what's that?" King asks grabbing it to reveal half a tag. "Keeps the Curse at bay. Wait." King pulls out the first part that was on the Elixir. "An elixir a day, keeps the curse at bay."
"Curse? What are you talking about?" Minato asks.
"I was wrong the whole time. That's no snaggleback. That creature is..."
Before King could finish a giant claw burst through the door knocking them back and from it the creature came into the light revealing Eda had turned into a horrible owl monster.
"Eda?!" Luz and Minato gasp.
Growling Eda came at them but Luz steps back and her phone fell out causing a bright flash to appear and Eda screamed covering her eyes.
Seeing this was their chance Minato thrusts his hands forward and a gust of wind blew Eda back.
"Come on!" Grabbing King the three of them ran before Eda recovered.
Hiding behind a wall where a bunch of flowers were placed the three of them held their breath in fear as Eda growled trying to find them.
Looking over Luz saw a small can and threw it down the hall creating a noise causing Eda to growl and run towards it.
"That was way too close." Minato panics as they all caught their breath.
"And those eyes. What happened to her?" Luz asks.
"Don't you see? The elixir I gave you doesn't give Eda powers. It prevents her from turning into that thing. She's turned into a nightmare and it's all my fault. I'm so sorry, guys. I‐I just wanted you two to be into demons like you're into magic. I don't have many friends, and no one even pays that much attention to me. I thought maybe if I taught you two, finally someone would care about creatures like me." King admits.
Looking at him Minato and Luz smile as Luz pulls out the pen.
"Well then we have a lesson to finish." Minato said.
"Huh?" King said confused.
"Eda's turned into some kind of demon, and we need to save her. So who knows more about demons than the best teacher in the world?" Luz asks.
Giggling King leaps up and hugs them before grabbing some leaves to draw on.
"Alright. She was bigger, covered in feathers, and had giant black eyes. Demons with black eyes are usually sensitive to light." King said.
"Really wish I didn't just know wind." Minato said when King noticed their phones.
"That's it. You're human wonder rectangle." King said.
"I can't. My camera's all blasted." Luz said showing the cracked screen.
"Then what about the light spell?" King asks.
"You saw me. I can't draw circles in the air. I'm not like Minato and I'm not like Eda." Luz sighs.
Looking at her phone she saw Eda making the spell circle when it glitched up revealing something.
"Wait, there's a pattern in the spell circle." Luz gasps.
"Where?" Minato asks as he and King leaned in.
"It looked like this." Luz puts a leaf over the phone screen and drew the logo she saw and when she was finished a ball of light appeared causing them to gasp. "It's beautiful."
"Luz…you did it." Minato smiles causing Luz to smile.
"Oh, my gosh. I just did magic. I just did magic! I just did magic! I'm a witch like you!" Luz said hugging Minato tightly but their moment was interrupted by a roar.
"We're not gonna be able to stop anything with something that small." King said.
"Wait remember Eda said if we make a bigger circle then the spell is more powerful." Minato recalls.
"Maybe but how would we do it?" Luz asks.
"What if I lured her to you guys?" Minato suggests.
"What? No Minato she'll catch you easy. She's too fast." Luz gasps.
"For now. Minato you gotta do the Reinforcement Magic. It'll give you the boost you need to survive Eda." King said.
"But I don't know how to do this. I tried dad's way but I messed up." Minato said.
"Then don't do it Miguel's way. Just do things your way then." King suggests.
"My way?" Minato asks.
"Well I mean you know the rules of how to do it. Just try I don't know making it into something you can easily understand?" King said not sure if what he said made sense.
Minato pauses and smiles instantly thinking of something awesome.
"Let's do this." Minato said.
"You ready Boo-Boo buddies?" Luz asks holding out her fist.
"I'm over that nickname but okay." King said as the three of them fist bump.
Downstairs, Eda was sniffing around looking for any sign of them when she heard a clicking noise.
Looking up she saw Minato leaning against the wall holding the glowing pen.
"Wow amazing huh? It's just so shiny." Minato said turning it on and off getting Eda's attention.
Drawn to the shiny object Eda roars leaping at him.
"Whoa!" Minato said leaping out of the way and running down the hall with Eda right on his tail. "Okay come on. In Naruto and Pokemon they were able to do amazing feats because they focused all their chakra or Aura into one area first and then it grew. So if I do it with my magic it might do the same." Minato said as he concentrated his magic to his feet and small puffs of magic came like before.."Come on! Come on! Come on! Come on!"
Roaring Eda's teeth were inches from ripping him apart when blue magic exploded out of Minato's feet coating him in a blue aura allowing him to outrun her.
"Oh yeah! Can't catch me now!" Minato cheers as he turns a corner quickly and ran along the wall and King tosses a bunch of papers causing Eda to slip on them and crash down the hall.
Trying to recover Luz drops a giant blanket over her distracting Eda as she finished drawing a giant magic circle.
"Sorry Eda, but it's for your own good!" Luz declares slamming her hand on it creating a giant ball of light causing Eda to scream.
When the light dies down Eda screams back to her normal self as her elixir was being looped through a crazy straw towards her mouth.
"W‐What happened? Oh, I have the worst headache. And my mouth tastes like roadkill." Eda groans before gaging and ends up barfing up the Snaggleback.
"I'm just gonna lie here for a minute." It groans.
"Hmm? I was looking for this." Eda said picking up the elixir bottle.
"Actually we found an extra one in your closet." King said walking up to her.
"King? King! You stole my elixir?! I oughta break every bone in your—"
"Eda ssh." King shushes before pointing over to Luz and Minato. "Look."
In the corner Luz was drawing multiple light runes before turning them into balls of light that floated up into the air while Minato was leaping up in the air with ease tossing them around the room.
"How are they doing that?" Eda asks amazed.
"They figured out the trick to doing magic and they did it all on her own. Hey, I, uh, kind of messed a bunch of things up back there. And I just wanted to say I'm sorry." King apologizes.
"Well, you better be. I got a long list of disgusting chores with your name on it. But it's not entirely your fault." Eda said as Minato and Luz walked over. "I haven't been completely honest with you all. When I was younger, I was cursed. I don't know exactly how it happened, all I know is that if I don't take my elixir, well, that's why people call me the Owl Lady. No one likes having a curse, but if you take the right steps, it's manageable." Eda explains.
"Whoa." Minato said shocked.
"So are you okay?" Luz asks.
"There's nothing for you to worry about. It's all under control, and as long as no one steals my elixir, King. Then I'm fine. But hey look at this now I have two magical students. Good job kid." Eda said.
"The only reason I was able to make this spell was because Minato was able to fight you off long enough for me to do it." Luz said rubbing the back of her head. "Plus we had a great teacher."
"Oh you." King smiles.
"Hey, hey! Is anyone there? Hello? Hoot? I'm on the floor. It's cold!" Hooty said from downstairs.
"That voice! That horrific voice!" King said annoyed.
"We'll take care of him. You stay in bed. Come on, you goopy fella. We'll set you free now." Luz said picking up the Snaggleback.
"I think my tail was digested." It said as Luz and King walked out.
"Hey uh Eda can I ask you something?" Minato asks.
"What's up kid?" Eda asks.
"You said you were really close with my dad, but during the chaos I found something." Minato reached into his pocket and pulls out the picture from Eda's pillow and in it was a photo of a teenage Eda kissing Miguel on the cheek.
Seeing this Eda's eyes widen before she sighs and laid down in her nest.
"Didn't think you'd learn about that so early." Eda said.
"Were you and my dad a thing?" Minato asks.
"For a brief period. Minato your dad was incredible and he was amazing. I loved Miguel with all my heart and me along with a few other witches had a huge crush on him as well. He was the most amazing man in the Boiling Isles. Powerful, brave, helpful and let me tell you that man was as hot as dragon fire." Eda said causing Minato to cringe.
"Okay could have gone my whole life without knowing that." Minato said causing Eda to chuckle.
"Hey you should be flattered means you could have chance with some pretty girls too." Eda smirks.
"So what happened?" Minato asks and Eda frowns slightly.
"I messed up kid. I had just gotten cursed and I didn't know what to do. Miguel came to me wanting to help, but I was scared and I didn't want him or me to get hurt so I pushed him away. Broke his heart and mine too. It wasn't until a while later that I realized my mistake but when I went to find him, he had met your mother." Eda explains.
"Eda, I'm so sorry." Minato said.
"I've made a lot of mistakes in my life but that one was by far the worst. Since that day Miguel and I were only ever friends. He would drop by and help me and King out of a few jams and tell us a few things including you." Eda said sitting up and poking him in the chest.
"So what happened to him? The last time he came here?" Minato asks.
"I'm not sure he was weirdly secretive about it, he said he was onto something big and that he had to do it alone. So he gave me his portal to the human world and his monado to hold onto and then he left. Never heard from him again." Eda said.
"I'm sorry Eda." Minato said.
"Yeah me too. Learn from me kid, don't push away those you love. Keep them as close to you as possible." Eda said.
"Do you ever wonder what would have happened if you didn't push him away?" Minato asks.
"Every day, but I guess it's for the best I'm not exactly the mothering type. Could you imagine me walking my kid to school? Teaching them spells? Even just having fun around the house." Eda said.
"Maybe someday…Oba san." Minato said getting her attention.
"Uh what's that mean?" Eda asks sitting up.
"It means Aunt. Thank you, Aunt Eda." Minato smiles.
"Oh get outta here you little rascal. Go help Luz and King." Eda said brushing him.
"Get some rest." Minato said leaving the room.
As Eda laid in her nest she smiles. "Aunt Eda…got a nice ring to it." Eda said before falling asleep.
In her dream we find Eda in front of a door.
"No, not this memory again." Eda said when the door opened to reveal a blurry shadowy figure with big round circles for eyes. "You! You're the one who cursed me, aren't you? Who are you? Who are you?"
Waking up Eda looks to see it was just a dream.
Sighing she looks to the photo of her and Miguel and sighs.
"I miss you Miguel." Eda said before putting the photo back under her pillow.
Downstairs, Minato put Hooty's door back in place while Luz put band aids on him.
"Welcome to the boo‐boo buddy club, Hooty." Luz said.
"Finally, I'm a part of something." Hooty smiles.
"Hey Luz, you really blew me away back there. Great job." Minato said.
"Yep you're not the only magic user anymore." Luz said playfully nudging him.
Minato looks at Luz and remembers Eda's words. Reaching out Minato pulls Luz into a hug surprising her.
"M-Minato?" Luz said.
"Thanks for being here Luz. I'm glad you are." Minato said causing Luz to blush softly before hugging back.
"Me too." Luz smiles.
Nearby King was talking to the Snaggleback.
"And then she had teeth in her stomach. Teeth in her stomach! Can you believe that?" The Snaggleback asks.
"Oh yeah this'll be a great addition to my demon book." King said drawing a picture of Owl Eda.
"That book is filled with so many interesting things. Like this. I'm one of the strongest demons on the Boiling Isles, huh?" The Snaggleback said showing King the picture of him.
"Yeah I'm gonna need to edit that." King said seeing he was so wrong.
"Aw..." The Snaggleback groans.
