Chapter 11: Holding onto Hope
Hey everyone I'm back with a new chapter. I'm glad to see so many of you enjoyed my latest chapter. Ever since more clips of Owl House Season 2 have been released I've been more than eager to write for this. I hope you like what I have planned. Please Review and Enjoy.
At the Owl House, Eda was in the kitchen sipping her apple blood as she opened the fridge only to yelp seeing Dez's head with his tongue sticking out in a dead look
"Really? This old trick?" Eda narrows her eyes.
"Come on this is a classic." Dez said as his body appeared and he climbed out holding a can of soda to drink. "Miguel always got a kick out of this."
"Yeah well I'm not Miguel." Eda said as Dez took a sip of his drink.
"No kidding I can't believe you're actually trying to teach his kid and his human friends. What have you taught them exactly?" Dez asks.
"I've taught Luz and just recently the Light glyphs and I taught Minato Reinforcement magic." Eda said.
"That's…that's it?" Dez asks.
"What do you mean?" Eda asks.
"You've had them for all this time and that's all you taught them? Oh man no wonder I kicked Minato's butt yesterday." Despairo said.
"Hey I'm a busy witch." Eda said causing Dez to sneeze.
"Oh I'm sorry I'm allergic to total garbage." Dez said.
"I don't see you teaching your kid any tricks." Eda said.
"That's because my human is dealing with her own problem." Dez said pointing the living room.
There Katara was looking in shock and confusion as Luz, Minato, Lily and King were showing Katara footage of her show on Minato's laptop.
"So…I'm a fictional character. My whole life was made by someone else?" Katara said in horror.
"I'm sorry Katara but yeah that's your world." Luz said.
"I don't believe this. This is insane. So...am I even real?" Katara asks holding her head.
"Yes, you're as real as any of us thanks to Dez." Minato said.
"Trust me I know how you feel. I was brought to life from a book." Lily said putting a hand on her shoulder.
"What?" Katara said in shock.
"Look Katara, I know you're scared and freaking out, but we want to know we're here for you." Minato said.
"Here cuddle with this little guy." Luz said holding up King.
"What? No I don't want—" Before King could finish Katara hugs him close. "Oh forget it."
"If you want you can cuddle with me." Hooty said startling her.
"Hooty no one ever wants to cuddle with you." Lily said pushing him away.
"My brother, my friends, Aang, what do I do now?" Katara asks.
"I'm sorry we know this is a lot to take in at once." Lily said.
"Well in the meantime, why don't you use this time for yourself?" Minato asks.
"What do you mean?" Katara asks.
"Well in your show you always had to be the responsible one. Always looking out for others. This time you have someone looking out for you." Minato said.
"Use this time to do things you've always wanted to do." Luz suggests.
"I guess you have a point." Katara said.
"Katara I know you're in a new place and you have no idea what's going on but I promise you, we've got your back." Minato smiles.
"Yeah just think of this like when you and your brother found Aang, but this time you're the boy in the iceberg and we're the watertribe locals that broke you free. Does that make sense?" Luz asks causing Katara to giggle.
"Yeah I get it Luz. I guess here it's like I'm Aang and you're the ones helping me navigate this strange new world." Katara said causing them to pause. "Wow that was cheesy. Who'd you say writes my show again?"
"They're pretty decent writers. The movie on the other hand." Minato cringed.
"Ugh no way." Luz cringed.
"A movie? Can I see that?" Katara asks.
"NO!" Minato and Luz said at the same time surprising them.
"Uh was the yelling necessary?" Lily cringed.
"Yeah what's wrong with the movie?" Katara recovers.
"Trust us on this one. You do not need to know. Minato and I went to see it when it came to theaters and…" Luz shivers. "I still regret it."
"We're doing you a favor with this." Minato said.
"So what do I do now?" Katara asks.
"For starters how about letting go of me." King chokes.
"Whoops sorry little fella." Katara said letting go.
"I am not a little fella I am the King of Demons!" King declares pointing at her.
"You know he kinda reminds me of Sokka with all his dramatic acting." Katara giggles.
"This is not acting!" King said stomping his foot.
"Hey seems like things are getting better in here." Dez floats in.
"Yeah a little." Minato said.
"So I guess I'll living with you for now." Katara said.
"Yeah it'll be nice having some company around the place. It's mostly just been me." Dez said.
"Come back anytime you two." Luz said.
"Oh trust me, we will." Dez smiles.
"Bye guys, I'll see you soon." Katara said getting up.
"Hey if you ever need help adjusting just come talk to me or Luz us weirdoes gotta stick together." Minato smiles.
"Thanks guys." Katara smiles giving Minato a small hug.
"Whoa." Minato said blushing slightly.
However when Luz saw this she twitched her eye a little.
"Come on Katara, Dez is waiting." Luz said.
"Right sorry." Katara said letting go and walking out.
As she walked out Luz couldn't shake this cold feeling.
Sure Luz knew Minato had a crush on her character, heck she even had a crush on Zuko but it was fine because they weren't real, but now his dream girl was real and living nearby.
"Hey kids!" Eda said walking in. "Who's up for a little trip for a magic lesson?"
Gasping Luz bounces up and down eager. "Ooh! Me! Me! Me! Me!"
"I'm in." Lily nods.
"So what kind of lesson is it?" Minato asks.
"A you and Tiger Lily kind of lesson." Eda points.
"Huh?" They all said confused.
At the top of a mountain, Eda reaches the top first and looks at the view.
"Ah isn't this amazing? Nothing like a little change of scenery for a lesson." Eda said as Luz, Minato and Lily climbed up with King bringing up the rear exhausted.
"Why did we have to go so high for this lesson?" Luz pants.
"Well first we're gonna start with you Lily. Right now you don't know any magic so we need to figure out how to work with you." Eda said.
"Sweet, what am I going to learn? Glyphs like Luz or wind stuff like Minato?" Lily asks eagerly.
"Hmm neither. Luz and Minato learned their magics their own way so we need to find something you can specialize in. Now I looked into your book and this place Neverland has a lot of weird and wacky stuff. Uh no offense." Eda said.
"None taken." Lily said.
"But I noticed there's a fair share of beasts in Neverland so that's what you're gonna try and learn." Eda said pointing to a next of griffins on the other end. "You'll be learning Beast Keeping Magic."
"Ooh." Minato and Luz said interested.
"Now this sounds like something I can do." Lily smiles.
"Now the first spell every Beast keeper is the Magic whip. It keeps the beasts at bay and more importantly adds a little extra to your weapons arsenal. Watch and learn." Eda said picking up a rock and walks towards the nest.
As the Griffin looked to Eda she threw a rock hitting it in the face causing it to roar at her.
Gulping Luz clung to Minato in fear as it flew at Eda.
Making a small magic circle a glowing brown whip appeared in her hand.
"Back!" Eda said snapping it and when the whip made contact it magic exploded keeping the Griffin at bay. "Back furball! Back!"
"I'm liking this a lot." Tiger Lily said blown away.
"Okay Tiger Lily, now let's see if you can make the whip. Your first step you gotta imagine the whip, get it down to every last detail and then make the magic circle." Eda instructs.
"Okay sounds simple enough." Lily nods.
"We'll see." Eda said throwing another rock hitting the griffin in the face pissing it off again.
"Come on give me the whip." Lily said trying to make the magic circle but nothing was happening. "Come on!"
The Griffin raises its foot but Lily jumps out of the way to avoid being stomped.
"Lily concentrate, try doing it on a surface!" Luz calls out.
"A surface?" Looking to the mud, Lily tries concentrating again and this time a partial brown light appeared but only the whip handle appeared. "The handle? What am I supposed to do with this?"
As the Griffin was about to bite down on her Lily uses the handle to stop its mouth.
"Lily!" Minato gasp.
"We gotta help her!" Luz said.
"Hold on, give her a chance." Eda said stopping them.
Using her legs, Lily pushes the Griffin off her.
Panting heavily Lily looks around for a way to keep it at bay when she noticed some vines hanging nearby.
Grabbing them, Lily rips the vines out and ties one to the end of the rod as the Griffin recovers.
Screeching it flaps it was about to fly in when Lily snaps the vine whip making it snap.
"Back! Back you!" Lily yells making it stop in its tracks. "Come on! Get going! Go!"
Flapping its wings, the Griffin flies away.
"Well it's not what I did but you handled yourself pretty well." Eda said.
"I guess I need a little more practice to make this." Lily said looking at her handle.
"Hey you're learning just like us." Minato said.
"If we can learn so, can you." Luz smiles.
"Now Minato it's your turn to learn something." Eda said.
"Really what?" Minato asks.
"Today you are going to learn to fly." Eda said getting their attention.
"Me fly?" Minato said.
"Uh I know I'm new to magic but don't you need a staff to fly?" Lily asks.
"Not necessarily. Your father managed to figure out how to use his Wind Magic to make him fly without one." Eda said.
"So uh how is Minato gonna learn?" Lily asks.
"Same way birds teach their kids to fly." Eda said.
"How do they do that?" King asks.
"Easy we just throw them off and they figure it out on the way down." Eda said.
"Wait what?!" Lily gasps.
"Eda I don't like the sound of this." Minato gulps.
"Relax if anything happens, I'll get ya. This'll show that stupid imp." Eda said.
"Wait you mean Dez?" King asks.
"Eda maybe he isn't supposed to fly. I mean he barely knows proper magic." Luz said.
"Don't worry you've got this. Now…fly!" Eda said pushing Minato off the edge.
Panicking all of them ran to the edge to watch Minato fall.
"He's not flying." Lily said.
"He'll get it." Eda said.
"Hey if he dies can I have the Monado?" King asks.
"No." Lily and Luz said.
"He's not gonna die." Eda said.
"This is really high cliff." Luz noticed.
"That's why it's good." Eda said.
"You should get him." King gulps.
"He's taking his time." Eda said when they heard Minato scream causing all but Eda to cringe.
"Eda!" Luz panics.
"His dad screamed like a baby too when he did this. Fear is an excellent motivator." Eda said.
"He's getting too close to the ground!" Lily panics.
"You know what he's not gonna fly." Eda said before grabbing her staff and diving down after him.
As Minato was approaching the ground a sudden updraft of wind pushed him back up surprising him.
"What the?" Minato said when the goggles went over his eyes.
Seconds later, Eda dropped in and caught him before lowering him down.
"See, I told you I had you." Eda said as Minato leaned against the cliff panting heavily.
"What was that?" Minato said taking his goggles off. 'That's the second time wind saved my life.'
Thinking back, Minato was seeing something, whenever he was in danger or confused some sort of wind always blew in helping him and blowing the goggles down over his eyes.
"Minato!" Snapping out of his thoughts Minato sees Luz sprint down and hug him tightly. "I was so worried about you!"
"Uh it's okay Luz. I-I'm okay really." Minato blushes.
"Nice teaching Eda, maybe next time you can try dropping rocks on him." King narrows his eyes.
An hour later, they were making their way into town.
"Okay now we know flying without a staff is a little too advanced for you." Eda said sheepishly.
"Ya think?!" Everyone snaps.
"I thought I was going to die!" Minato yells.
"But you didn't." Eda said trying to lighten the mood.
"Eda what happened? Why were you so quick to jump into this?" Minato asks.
"Alright, the truth is Despairo got into my head. I've haven't really taught you kids much and I guess I thought I was maybe sort of a lousy teacher." Eda admits.
"Eda you're not a lousy teacher." Luz said.
"Not counting the whole pushing Minato off a cliff lesson, but Luz is right. You teach us how to survive this place." Lily said.
"Plus you just taught Lily that awesome whip move." Luz said.
"Yeah, we may not be experts but you've done a lot for us." Minato said.
"Thanks kids." Eda smiles feeling better.
"Hello Minato, Lily." Looking over they see a teenage girl with long brownish-black hair in a ponytail, a cerulean top with silver long sleeves and black shorts with a dagger pouch strapped to her right leg. "It's good to see you two again."
"Uh who are you?" Minato asks.
"Have we met?" Lily asks.
"Oh well this might help." She reaches behind and flips a hood over her head revealing her to be the cloaked figure from the battle against Dez.
"It's you!" They both gasped.
"Kids who is she?" Eda asks.
"She a friend?" Luz asks.
"Sort of, she saved our lives against Dez and Katara." Minato said.
"Yeah but after the fight you just ran off before we could thank you." Lily said as she took off the hood.
"Sorry about that, but I had other priorities that needed attending to." She said holding out her hand. "My name is Blanca, it's nice to officially meet you."
"Hi Blanca, you already know Tiger Lily. This is my best friend Luz, King and Eda." Minato introduced.
"Hi there." Luz waves.
"Greetings potential servant." King said.
"So you're the famous Owl Lady?" Blanca said looking at Eda.
"You gonna try and turn me in?" Eda asks.
"No, I don't think it would be wise to cross weapons with someone of your abilities." Blanca said.
"Wise choice." Eda smirks.
"Thanks for saving them. Anyone who's a friend of Minato is a friend of mine." Luz said walking up to Blanca and shook her hand.
"Well then it appears we have something in common." Blanca smiles.
"So Blanca what exactly happened to make you want to help Minato?" Eda asks.
"Well I used to be quite the fan of Miguel Soulwing. He inspired me to pursue a career in hunting monsters and powerful creatures." Blanca said.
"Of course, another fan of my dad." Minato rolls his eyes.
"You should be honored your father was a legend." Blanca said looking at the Monado strapped to his back. "As well as his weapon."
"Yeah sure." Minato said not sure. "Well we owe you one for helping us."
"Think nothing of it." Blanca said when they heard the sound of sniffing.
"Edalyn." Lilith said as she and some Emperor's guards spotted them.
"Uh oh." Minato said.
"You don't have the Calamity Imp with you, you're not getting away this time." Lilith said.
"Sounds like she's still angry about yesterday." Eda said.
"Ya think." Minato, Luz and Tiger Lily said again.
The guards were about to move in when Blanca created her magic sword and slashes both guards to the ground.
"What the?" Eda said.
"That's twice you guys owe me now. Get going." Blanca said.
"Thanks Blanca." Minato said as they ran off.
"You do not want to mess with me." Lilith said.
"You're probably right but like you I have my own orders." Blanca said throwing multiple glowing daggers at Lilith who makes a magic circle creating blue flames that destroy them.
Charging in with her staff, Blanca quickly throws a smoke bomb allowing her to disappear.
"Where did she?" Lilith said confused when she noticed Blanca on the roof.
"Thanks for the fight but I'm gonna go, I'd like to see you catch up with your sister now." Blanca said before leaping off causing Lilith to growl.
Near the market, Eda's group turns a corner.
"Okay maybe that Blanca girl isn't so bad after all." Luz said.
"I don't know, something's fishy." Eda said.
"Are you sure that's not just the fish?" King asks pointing the fish booth.
"No, King something is off about that girl but I don't know what." Eda said.
"Edalyn!" Turning around they see Lilith storming towards them with an angry look on her face.
"Uh oh." Eda gulps.
"Did you honestly think that your little friend could stop me?!" Lilith yells.
"Kinda." Eda cringed.
"Well let me tell—" Before Lilith could finish a carriage drove in and rammed into her knocking Lilith into a garbage can.
"What the?" Luz said when from the windows Edwin and Naomi popped their heads out.
"Edwin, you just hit a woman with my carriage." Naomi gasps.
"I know ma'am." Edwin said calmly.
"She's the head of the Emperor's Coven." Naomi said.
"Ms. Lilith is quite resilient. She's fine, trust me." Edwin assures.
"Edwin?" Minato gulps fearing the worst.
"Everyone in the carriage please. Quickly now." Edwin calls out.
Pausing all of them saw their choices were either deal with them or deal with Lilith.
"Shotgun!" Eda said running inside.
Pausing they quickly ran inside as the carriage drove off into the forest in the direction of the Owl House.
As Blanca came out of hiding, she didn't see any sign of them.
'Hopefully that stunt helped earn enough trust to get into the Owl House. I can't get close enough with the Owl Lady's enemies around every corner.' Blanca narrowed her eyes before leaving.
"Thank goodness we got to you in time." Naomi said looking out the window.
As she turned to them, she saw Eda had her staff and Lily had her bow pointed right at her.
"Miss Edalyn if you are going to attack us, I would strongly ask that you wait until I park." Edwin said.
"Cram it, Edwin. If you think I'm letting you take Minato you're mistaken." Eda said.
"Try and harm him and you will feel my wraith!" King vows.
"Me too." Lily adds.
"That goes triple for me!" Luz said.
"We're not turning you over to Elias. We've come to warn you. Your life is in danger." Naomi said.
"Tell us something we don't know sweetie." King said.
"Who are you?" Minato asks.
"My name is Naomi Soulwing, I'm Miguel's cousin and one of the few members of our family that he actually got along with." Naomi said as Edwin pulls to a stop so he can turn around and look at them.
"And what's the story with the butler?" Luz asks.
"Young lady, while I am required to serve the House of Soulwing I will not lower myself to participate in what the House does in the shadows." Edwin said.
"What is going on?" Eda asks.
"Please just hear me out for 5 minutes." Naomi said.
"Alright fine." Minato said.
"When your father was still here, he was the Heir of the most thriving family on the Boiling Isles. When people saw a Soulwing they were in awe of our magic and our talents, but when your father left people began to doubt our family. If the Heir to the House of Soulwing was willing to run away then they are not as great as they were made to believe." Naomi said.
"Gee I wonder why my dad left? Maybe because my grandfather is insane?" Minato said sarcastically.
"He wasn't always like this. After your father left, Elias had to retake the reins as head of the house again and in order to get us back to our prestige he chose to focus all his energy on business instead of family. Now, that's all he thinks about, there's no compassion left in that man." Edwin said.
"So why does he hate Minato so much then?" Luz asks.
"Because there has never been a hybrid on the Boiling Isles before. Elias thinks just that you exist will ruin the house forever." Naomi said shocking them.
"But that's crazy, no one in their right mind would believe that." Lily said.
"Exactly, Elias isn't in his right mind, he hasn't since Miguel left and he's using you to keep the family loyal to him. He lies." Edwin said.
"So why did you need to tell us this?" Eda asks.
"Because Elias wants you dead. He plans to have you killed." Naomi declares shocking them.
"They want to kill me…just because I exist?" Minato asks with tons of hurt in his voice.
"Yes you see he's—" However before Naomi could explain why Minato opens the carriage and storms out.
"Minato wait!" Edwin said getting up. "Please sir you must listen there's more you need to know!"
"I don't care." Minato said surprising them.
"What?" Edwin said shocked.
"I don't care okay!" Minato said turning to them with tears in his eyes. "If the Soulwings don't want me, fine! I don't want to be a part of a family that wants nothing to do with me! So tell Elias to do whatever the hell he wants with his stupid house, I'm not gonna lift a finger to stop him! So just leave me alone!" Minato yells before storming off to the Owl House.
"Wait please there's still some things you need to know." Naomi said.
"I think you've said enough." Eda said getting up. "Come on kids, we're leaving."
"Yeah sayonara monsters." King said climbing out.
"With a family like this, I don't blame Minato's father for running away."
As Luz was about to leave she turns to Naomi and Edwin.
"And just FYI, your family would be lucky to have a guy like Minato a part of your house." Luz glares before leaving.
"Minato wait please! You don't know the full truth!" Naomi calls out but they were long gone. "What now Edwin?"
"We wait. Right now, we piled too much on at once, but he'll come back. As much as he hates it, he can't turn his back on who he is forever. Sooner or later, he'll want to know more." Edwin said.
"But he doesn't know about the assassin or why Elias is doing this." Naomi said.
"He will sooner or later, but as long as the Owl Lady is with him it'll buy us some time." Edwin said.
"I hope you're right." Naomi sighs.
That night as everyone in the Owl House was fast asleep, Luz snuck out of her room and made her way towards Minato's room where he had appeared to cry himself to sleep.
Slowly tiptoeing over, Luz picks up Minato's laptop and carries it into the living room where the portal door was.
"Okay I hope she's still up." Luz said making a video call.
A few seconds later, Momo Nakamura appeared on screen.
"Minato this is a surprise." Momo said before seeing it was Luz. "Luz?"
"Uh hi Mrs. Nakamura." Luz waves.
"Luz? What's going on? Is Minato in trouble?" Momo asks.
"No, no, not he's just…struggling with something and I want to help him, but I need to ask you something important so I can." Luz said.
"Sure what do you need to know?" Momo asks.
"I was wondering…if you could tell me a little bit about your husband." Luz said surprising her.
"M-My husband?" Momo gulps.
"Yeah, lately Minato's been thinking about his father a lot and I was wondering if you could tell me a little bit about him to help me figure out how to be there for Minato." Luz said.
"I see...well Luz my husband was very different. He came from a far away place that you probably never heard of." Momo said.
"Hmm I don't about that." Luz mumbles.
"Anyway when I met Minato's father, he was lost. He had nowhere to go and was all alone. Granted when I first met him I'd hardly call him the man I love, but as time went on he grew on me." Momo said.
"What was he like?" Luz asks.
"He was so full of wonder. He had these big eyes, that saw the beauty and magic in everything he touched. He made my life an adventure, he was brave, he was kind and more than that he made me a better person as I stood alongside him." Momo smiles at the memories.
"He sounds amazing." Luz smiles.
"He was Luz, Miguel was something else. He always wanted to help people and I respected that about him, and when I had Minato, he…he was so happy. He loved Minato more than anything, he had so many plans for the future, things he wanted Minato to experience alongside him and when he disappeared, Minato he never truly recovered. He always believed his father was out there somewhere waiting to come back and for a while I did too, but as time went on it just became harder to keep that hope alive." Momo frowns.
"Is that why Minato always got into fights when someone brought him up?" Luz asks.
"Yes, Minato refuses to lose that hope and as much as I want to try and help him move on I can't." Momo said.
"Maybe Minato isn't the problem Mrs. Nakamura. Maybe the problem is you." Luz said getting her attention.
"Excuse me?" Momo asks looking at her.
"You said it yourself you gave up hoping you would see your husband. Maybe the reason you want Minato to stop acting this way is that you see yourself in him and deep down I don't think you want to give up hope. I think you want your husband to come back just as much as Minato does but you don't have the courage to admit it." Luz explained.
"Wow, I never thought of it like that." Momo pauses.
"Mrs. Nakamura, how can I help Minato deal with his father's situation?" Luz asks.
"Honestly Luz, there's only one thing you can do." Momo said as Luz leaned in.
"What?" Luz asks.
"Be there for him. Whether he's sad, happy, or angry, let my Minato know that you will always be there for when he needs someone to lean on. That way knows he can always count on you." Momo said causing Luz to smile.
"I will." Luz smiles.
"I like you Luz, you've always been a great friend to my Minato. I'm glad he has someone like you in his life. You're a true friend." Momo smiles.
"Thanks, Mrs. Nakamura, but I strongly recommend you not give up hope. If you really loved your husband, I think he's worth keeping that hope alive." Luz said hanging up.
At her house in the human realm, Momo stands up and walks to the garage.
Going to an old box, she opens it revealing an old witch's cloak, a few photo albums and even a few videotapes.
'It's over 6 years since I opened this box.' Momo sighs remembering the day her life changed forever.
Flashback:
It was a stormy night in the human realm as a teenage Momo was outside helping her parents prepare for the worst.
"Momo hyaku!" A man with short black hair yells clearing the drain areas, this was Akira Nakamura.
Running to the back, Momo saw a woman with long brown hair grabbing the garbage cans. This was Hana Nakamura.
"Kasan!" Momo said running to help her.
"I got this sweetie, make sure the tarp is tied down." Hana said as Momo ran to the tarp to tighten it when she noticed a bright light shining from the nearby alley followed by a crashing noise.
"Huh?" Getting up Momo walks over only to gasp seeing a teenage Miguel wearing a black cloak, red and black clothes, his goggles around his neck and the portal key right under them, and the Monado in his right hand as he was on the ground bleeding at the hip and barely conscious.
Running over Momo grabs him and pulls him up.
"Hang on I got you!" Momo said bringing him inside.
There her parents were taking off their coats to see Momo bring him in.
"Momoyo Nakumura!" Akira gasps using her full name.
"Dad, he's hurt. He was in the alley." Momo said as they helped him onto the table to lay down.
"Oh no, that's a serious wound." Hana said seeing the bloodstains on his clothes.
"Get the first aid kit." Akira said.
"Hey do me a favor and don't die on me." Momo said as Miguel groans.
The next morning, Miguel opens his eyes and gasps.
"Wha-Where am I?" Miguel said looking to see he was on the couch in the living room.
Slowly sitting up he groans in pain. Looking to his hip he saw his wound was bandaged up.
Slowly he sees a goldfish tank in the corner.
"Food." Miguel smiles about to reach in and grab one.
"Uh…" Pausing Miguel looks to Momo who was holding mugs of tea. "Uh Ohayogozaimasu."
"What? Were those even words you just said?" Miguel asks confused.
"Oh you speak English." Momo said changing languages. "You don't have to eat my fish, I was gonna make you breakfast."
"S-Sorry." Miguel said sitting down. "Wait, where's my Monado?"
"Your what?" Momo asks.
"My Monado. I had it with me before I lost consciousness." Miguel said looking around.
"Oh that fancy red sword of yours? It's in the kitchen along with your fancy cloak. We saw you barely conscious near our house. "Here, drink this." Momo said handing him the mug.
"T-Thank you." Miguel said taking it.
"You got a name?" Momo asks.
"I am Miguel Soulwing." He said taking a sip.
"Oh, I'm Momo Nakamura." Momo smiles.
Soon she and Miguel were sitting with her parents at the table with breakfast.
"Ooh this looks good." Miguel said reaching to eat but Momo clears her throat. "Huh?"
Looking to her, Miguel saw Momo put her hands together to say grace.
"Itadakimasu." Momo's family said before they began to eat.
"Yeah that." Miguel said confused.
"What were you doing out in that storm?" Hana asks.
"I uh…I left my home." Miguel admits.
"Why?" Momo asks.
"It doesn't matter. I ran away and I am not going back." Miguel said.
"What happened?" Akira asks.
"I'd rather not talk about it. I'm pretty sure my father wants nothing to do with me anymore." Miguel frowns.
"I'm sorry to hear that." Momo frowns.
"Maybe your father didn't mean it. Maybe he was just mad." Hana said.
"No I'm pretty sure he meant it. Anyway, not much left for me at my home anyway. I just couldn't stay there anymore." Miguel sighs before looking to Momo. "You saved my life and I am grateful."
"I just did what anyone would do." Momo shrugs.
"Not anyone I know." Miguel said.
"Is there anything we can do to help?" Akira asks.
"Not unless you can change the past." Miguel said.
"You can never change the past Miguel but can change the future." Akira said getting his attention.
"How do I do that?" Miguel asks.
"We'll show you." Momo smiles.
Soon they were at the Nakamura Karate Dojo as Miguel was standing on a mat as he faced Momo who was in a gi and black belt.
"You ready for a challenge, pointy ears?" Momo smirks.
"I don't want to hurt you. I'm pretty strong where I'm from." Miguel said.
"Oh yeah well guess what?" Momo said walking up to him.
"What?" Miguel asks swinging her foot nailing him in the chest knocking him onto the mat.
"So am I." Momo smirks.
"Ugh not cool." Miguel said
"What's a matter baka?" Momo asks.
"What does that even mean? If you're gonna insult me can't you do it so I understand you?" Miguel asks looking up.
"Where's the fun in that? Why don't you try learning Japanese instead of making me always talk in English?" Momo asks. "Or are you just all talk?"
"Oh is that right?" Miguel spins sweeping his leg knocking Momo onto the mat.
As they both get up they took fighting stances.
"I am gonna wipe this mat with your face." Momo said.
"I've faced people bigger and meaner than you." Miguel said when Akira got in between them.
"Hey you two. If you want to spar, put the pads on. This is a dojo not a street fight." Akira said.
"Yes sir." Both sighed.
Soon, Miguel was helping Momo carry supplies into a Soup Kitchen.
"What is this place?" Miguel asks when he sees some homeless people in line. "Ugh their clothes are so dirty. Why are they wearing them?"
"They're homeless, they can't afford new clothes." Momo said leading him to the back. "Here put this on." Momo said handing him an apron.
"Why?" Miguel asks confused.
"Uh because we're gonna make these people dinner." Momo said.
"We are? But why? What's in it for us?" Miguel asks.
"The joy of helping others. Are you saying you've never helped people before?" Momo asks.
"Well I mostly helped deal with uh pests." Miguel said.
"Well looks like you're gonna step outside your comfort zone today. Now come on! Hyaku!" Momo said putting the apron on him and pushing him to the kitchen.
In the kitchen, Miguel was working with Momo's family as they helped prepare everything.
At the counter, Miguel brought baskets of fruit from the back and sees Momo giving them food.
"Here you go Sal. I gave you a little extra today." Momo smiles.
"You're an angel Momo." Sal smiles.
Watching Momo's family, Miguel saw all of them so happy as they made the homeless people smile and laugh.
Soon they were doing the dishes in the back.
"You're a strange one Momo." Miguel said.
"How so?" Momo asks.
"You have no special abilities, no wealth or power, but you're willing to do all this work for these people." Miguel said.
"It's called being considerate of others. Being a hero isn't like what you see in books, fighting monsters or whatever, every week my family comes her and just by giving these people a hot meal and a friendly smile, that makes me their hero." Momo said.
"Wow, where I'm from no one ever considers doing stuff like this." Miguel said.
"Well then maybe it's a good thing I found you." Momo said playfully nudging him.
"Yeah…I guess so." Miguel smiles.
The next memory had Miguel and Momo cleaning up around the house.
"Ugh chores are the worst." Miguel groans. 'I wish I could just use my magic to clean up.'
"You stay at this house; you pull your weight." Momo chuckles.
As Miguel was dusting the shelves, he ends up knocking over a video tape with a picture of a dog on it.
"Hmm, what's this? Hachiko Monogatri?" Miguel read.
"Oh that was my favorite movies." Momo smiles. "You can watch it later if you want. It's quite the story."
"Uh okay." Miguel pauses not sure if he'll like it.
Later that night, Momo was doing a final walkthrough of the house when she sees a small light followed by sniffling.
Slowly looking inside, she sees Miguel watching the movie and as the credits appeared he was crying softly.
"Quite the story huh?" Momo said getting his attention.
Wiping the tears from his eyes, Miguel looks to her.
"Why did he keep going back? He waited at that train for 9 years why didn't he realize his owner was never coming back?" Miguel asks.
"Because Hachiko was loyal to his owner until the very end. When he saw them take his owner's body away he stood at that spot every day hoping he would come back and he never stopped waiting until the end." Momo said.
"I wish I had a Hachi in my life back home." Miguel said.
"You don't think someone's waiting for you?" Momo asks seeing Miguel frown. "Maybe talking about it will help."
"Well you might find my story a little hard to believe." Miguel said.
"Try me." Momo said walking in.
Making a magic circle, Miguel blew a small gust of wind past Momo that closes the door shut shocking.
"Mahou?" Momo gasps.
"Told you." Miguel said clicling his portal key opening the portal in his room blowing Momo away.
"Sugoi." Momo said seeing she had just stumbled upon something huge.
Flashback End:
Zooming out of the memory see Momo flipping through some pages of a photo album.
Needless to say when she learned where Miguel came from their whole relationship changed.
In the next pictures, we see Momo and Miguel on dates, their wedding and even when Minato was a baby.
"Maybe Luz was right. I shouldn't have given up." Momo said as she put the box down.
Entering her room, she slowly walks to her computer and types in a password for a locked file with a date around the time Miguel disappeared.
Clicking it a video recording of Miguel appeared.
"Momo, I'm sorry I have to tell you this, but I can't come home right now. Something dangerous is happening here at the Boiling Isles and I don't know what it is all I know that it could everyone even you and Minato in danger. I don't know what's going to happen to me, how long I'll be gone or if I'm gonna survive all this, but I want you to know that you and Minato are the greatest thing to ever happen to me. Minato is too young to learn about my side of the family and it's probably for the best. Momo as much as it pains me to say it, if you want you can look for someone else if I don't come back for a while. You deserve happiness more than anyone. When I was lost and felt like my life was meaningless you found me and helped me in more ways than I could ever imagine. I may be considered a hero of the Boiling Isles, but you're my hero sweetie and I'll always love you for that. My only regret is that I won't get to be by your side watching our little Minato grow up, but I know he's in good hands. Momochan ga Daisuke desu." Miguel said as the recording ends.
Tearing up Momo struggles to keep it together.
"Baka, like I could ever find another man like you." Momo said.
Back at the Owl House, Luz slowly made her way back into Minato's room and as she puts the laptop down she slowly bends down and shakes Minato awake.
"Ugh Luz? What are you doing?" Minato said sitting up.
"I wanted to tell you something. Something important." Luz said as he looked at her ready to listen. "You've been there for me this whole time while I was struggling to be a witch and even more back in the human realm. You've always helped and I want you to know that this whole Soulwing thing is hard for you I'm gonna be by your side helping you every step of the way just like have for me." Luz smiles.
Hearing this Minato smiles touched by her statement. "Thanks Luz that means a lot."
Reaching out Minato pulls Luz into a hug.
Blushing Luz slowly hugs him back making this a tender moment between them.
