The Broken Boosted Gear
By Try Another Time
Asgard, Time: 2:06 AM.
The nights in Asgard were always the same. The cold night breeze would bring the calmness of night to its denizens. The yellow moon would always shine in the endless sky. The ravens Odin used as his spy network would try their best to stay up while Asgardians would sleep peacefully after a long day of hard labor.
Yet one single god lacked the freedom to sleep like his fellow Asgardians.
He was tall, comparable to the tallest of humans—muscular like a bull. Long strands of orange hair escaped his dark Viking helmet which protected him from injuries.
A large decorated horn rested on his belt while a large ax rested close to him. His armor was as durable as that of any other Aesir god, and several runes had been carved into each corner to protect him from danger.
His eyes shine like the brightest of jewels, and his name was Heimdall, the watchman of the Aesir Gods.
A son of Odin, he was and nine mothers he possessed. His sacred task was protecting the main gate into Asgard; to oppose any who dared to attack their realm. For millennia he had done so, although there were a few times he had been bested by the most unexpected of challengers.
Yet to this day, he still held his post as the watchman of the Aesir. Nobody would dare to face him head-on unless they had a death wish.
Heimdall stood tall and proud before the large gate on this peaceful night with just a few concerns going through his mind. "Thor, how could you challenge our father and betray his trust? Has madness taken over your mind? Was it my fault for not stopping you when you decided to head out with the dragons and valkyries?"
The god reflected on these thoughts while keeping his eyes wide open. Sleep wasn't an issue; he just needed a single hour daily.
This night was supposed to be like any other, yet fate was about to turn everything around for him and everyone else in Asgard.
Suddenly, the god felt mysterious vibrations coming from the gate.
"In the name of Odin, what is happening?" Heimdall asked as he reached out for his ax.
Other guards were also alerted and began sounding the alarms to call for reinforcements.
The gate shakes once more, which alerts Heimdall to the impending danger. The gate continued to shake violently until Heimdall saw it being forcefully open.
*Dark Crow- Man with a Mission*
Heimdall's eyes grew wide as he saw the giant figure of a titanic dragon forcing his way in. The dragon roars as it forces its way inside.
The massive dragon had four arms; Two forced the door open while the other two held a gigantic spear. His appearance had changed, yet Heimdall knew precisely who he was. "It can't be! You! The Welsh Dragon!" Heimdall tries to reach his horn.
But Ddraig was already expecting this. "No, you won't." The large tail of the dragon reached out with incredible speed and trapped the god. Ddraig continued to squeeze the god as he finished opening the gates; once he was inside, he quickly blasted the mechanism that would allow the gates to be closed.
"Beast! Release me now." Heimdall screamed as he tried his best to escape.
The guards were frozen in fear as they saw the legendary beast in the flesh. They wanted to act, but after seeing their leader's state, they could only think of a way to rescue him.
Ddraig ignored his screams and continued to squeeze the god before he took a deep breath. The titanic released a loud roar, alerting everyone in Asgar to his presence.
"Odin! I have come for your head!" Ddraig screamed to the winds as he spread his wings and took off into the sky.
His statement set every guard in Asgard into motion as they gave chase to Ddraig. Every defense mechanism was set into motion as all eyes turned to Ddraig.
Be it long-range weapons or spells, in a matter of a few minutes, projectiles from all directions got directed at Ddraig.
General POV.
Gabriel and the others waited for the moment to act in the back of the dragon. Each one was dressed in full black battle suits to protect them from most dangers. The developers ignored no variables, be it fire, poison, magic attacks, or physical attacks; the battlesuits were made to ensure each one would return in one piece to the alliance.
"Ddraig, increase your speed. We must reach the target as soon as possible but remember to be careful with the projectiles." Gabriel told her ally through a small communicator incorporated into each suit as she witnessed the incoming attacks. The seraph also saw flying units approaching them, so she quickly summoned several chakrams she threw at them.
The chakrams exploded after making contact with their targets; The explosions were strong enough to make the weak units fall unconscious. The luminous explosions blinded the stronger ones long enough for Ddraig to create enough distance, but that didn't mean that the numbers of those chasing them were decreasing at the moment.
"Thanks, Gabriel. Hold onto me. This ride is going to be a wild one." Ddraig replied to her using the same communicator hanging near his right ear drum.
The massive crimson beast spins around and increases his speed as he evades the incoming attacks while the remaining members of the team keep hugging his back spikes for dear life.
"Dammit, all to hell! Why was my first mission after getting out of prison so insane?" Roygun told herself while she hugged the spike.
"This is about to be such a fun night," Aurora's eyes continued to admire the increasing chaos that was taking place around her. Her instincts were screaming at her to drop down and start to fight, but the Welsh Dragon's newest maid held herself back. She had been given her orders, and the collar around her neck would ensure she didn't become an obstacle for her master.
"Projectiles at your six and seven, Ddraig; I will start to attack from here, so let me take care of some of them. Keep moving forward." Serafall said as she took aim and started creating several magical circles.
Not even three seconds passed until Serafall bombarded the villages in their path with large icicles that spread out and captured the Asgardians inside ice blocks.
Asgardians have disliked winter since their creation, and Serafall made them remember why as her powers freeze several villages, including their long-range cannons and other defenses.
While Serafall continued her attacks, Grayfia turned her attention to the newbies on the team. "You two, pay attention to me. We're getting closer to the capital. We'll keep the kills to a minimum. You follow our orders and stay with the group. Draw as much attention away from Ddraig as possible once Odin appears. Do not engage Odin. Understood?"
"Right, Grayfia-sama." Both newbies replied.
"Let me go!" Everyone in the group continued to hear the screams of Heimdall as he was dragged along with them. They ignored his screams as the mission would be compromised if he was allowed to go free.
The increasing number of pursuers proved that dragging him along was the best decision for the group's goals.
The flight continued until the group finally saw the massive walls surrounding Asgard's capital. It was impressive as even Ddraig felt small before the gigantic walls.
"Heads on, everyone, we have arrived at the target," Gabriel says as her eyes investigate the walls. After a few moments, she finds the perfect spot for the train to invade the capital, "Ddraig, 30 degrees to the West. Shoot that part down but recall your flames right after. I sense no signs of life in that part of the wall."
"Got it." Ddraig stops and starts to charge an attack. After a few moments, he released a massive stream of flames that cut cleanly through a large part of the walls that had protected the capital for ages like a laser beam would cut through all materials.
Melted rock spilled into the capital as its locals ran away in fear. Ddraig reabsorbed the flames before they were allowed to spread.
Ddraig and the others could hear the horrified screams of their denizens from inside the city. Their unbreakable wall had been attacked and pierced by enemy forces. The biggest fears of Asgard came to fruition as their capital was now under attack.
One would usually celebrate after achieving such a goal, but Ddraig and his group weren't doing any of that. They knew this was just the beginning, and Ddraig's instincts were the first to detect the approaching danger.
"Ouros, dimensional counter, and rune counter." Ddraig raises his spear as it starts spinning on its axis at inhuman speeds. The dragon takes a stance as it awaits the incoming attack.
In milliseconds, a massive shockwave occurs as a golden spear meets Ouros. The spearheads of both sides clash against each other with such intensity that it creates earthquakes around the continent.
The girls climb to his head and stay silent as they are amazed by the clash of the two spears. None dared to move an inch from their position as they knew the threat that Gungnir presented.
Ddraig pushes back with Ouros. "Shit, Odin wasn't playing around when he threw Gungnir, but we can do this. Come on, Ouros, show them what you got."
The two sides continue to clash for a few more moments until the miracle happens; Gungnir deviates from its intended target as it flies past Ddraig's chest and crashes into the floor, causing a large crater to the south of Ddraig.
"You did it!" Gabriel screams in excitement as she sees the golden spear in the distance.
"That's my boyfriend!" Serafall joins Gabriel.
"Good job Welsh Dragon." Grayfia joins as well.
The other members had no words to express their excitement at the sight they had to behold.
"We have no time for celebrations. Odin will come for me with his forces. Get ready to fight." Ddraig says as his eyes meet the one eye Aesir leader in the distance. "Come and fight me like a true male, one-eye bastard." Ddraig takes off towards the west after challenging Odin to a fight.
The smirking expression on his face, the fact that he had made Gungnir miss its target, and the previous grudge Odin held against was bound to be enough to draw his attention.
War cries from within the capital reached his ears which only meant one thing.
"Come for me; play right into my plan," Ddraig smirked as he flew as far as possible from the capital.
Odin POV. Minutes before the siege.
The leader of the Aesir was forced to get up from his seat inside a library by the screams of a pair of ravens; One bird was white, while the other was completely black. His face showed a severe lack of sleep, possibly due to Thor's betrayal or something much worse. His long white beard was disgusting due to the lack of a bath, and even his golden armor seemed awful after not being clean for several days. His one remaining eye was amber, yet it had darkened and lost its light over many millennia of bad decisions.
"Settle down, Huginn, Muninn. Show me. What have you seen to wake me up at these hours?" Odin said as he approached the birds.
Both ravens sat on top of a table and waited for their owner. Odin carefully grabbed each and absorbed their memories through the usage of his runes.
"Ddraig, we're under attack. Go and alert my troops. The hunt shall continue tonight. This time I will make sure he stays dead forever."
Both ravens quickly took off and escaped through the window closest to them. As the ravens left, the door of the library was forcefully opened by two adult males.
One was a muscular black-haired god with several runes tattooed all over his chest. Only armored pants and boots covered his body, as his chest was naked. One could only think of a savage warrior by looking at him. His expression seemed concerned as his green eyes focused on Odin.
Next to the "savage" stood a tall, beautiful, looking god. Golden strands of hair stretched out all over his back. A peaceful aura irradiated from this god, one that could appease even the most violent beings. His white pearly eyes showed no signs of evil intent, but one could find a similarly concerned expression on his face.
"Vidar, Baldur, the time for a hunt has come. Ddraig has returned for more. Vidar, go and get ready for the fight. Baldur, you'll stay here and protect the capital." Odin says as he stretches his hand and calls his spear to him.
In a flash of golden light, the legendary Gungnir arrives at the hands of its owner.
"Father, he's with the alliance. Fighting shouldn't be our only path. We need to avoid any more conflicts. Thor is not even with us; how can you hope to fight a war without him?" Baldur asked his father.
"I'm with Baldur, father. We can't put Asgard at risk for old grudges. We-" Vidar stops himself as he feels the spear tip against his neck.
"Are you two trying to betray me like Thor? Who's the leader of this realm? You two or me?" Odin asks as he threatens Vidar while his eye is focused on Baldur. "I have done everything for Asgard. My siblings die while protecting Asgard. I will not accept any betrayal from anyone else. You two do what I ask, and stop arguing with me. Peace is not an option. Ragnarok will come, and I need to prepare everything for that day. Now go and do what I ask."
Both brothers felt the murderous intent of their father. He always had a thing for control, but after several events, it became an obsession that involved controlling everyone: their future, minds, and even the most minor things. Odin punished any rebellion accordingly; not even those closest to him were safe.
Baldur and Vidar held their hands up as they stepped back without saying a single word; neither had the guts to face Odin because of emotional attachments and the fear of losing someone dear to them due to their rebellion.
Odin quickly turned his attention to the approaching danger. The one-eye geezer walks to the opposite side of the library until he reaches a set of stairs, and as he climbs the stairs, he reaches one of the highest towers of his abode.
His eye could see each corner of the city from here, but the walls prevented him from looking past them.
But Odin didn't need that. His senses sharpened through many battles, and the spells he had prepared around Asgard were enough to face any challenge that threatened his home and kingdom.
"Come, Ddraig; you shall fall by my spear one last time. The walls of Asgard won't fall to you."
His assumptions were proven wrong very quickly, as the titanic dragon did the impossible. Odin watched in shock as the streams of crimson flames broke through the long-standing walls. No protection wards and spells could stop the crimson flames as they melted the rocks that once protected the capital.
"You beast! You stole from me. You invaded my home not once but twice, and now you threaten my kingdom! I will take you down!" Odin takes his throwing position. The god takes a deep breath as his arm pulls back and takes aim. His whole body tenses as he starts chanting. "Golden spear of mine. Pierce the target of my choice. Bring victory to me once more. Offer him death once more! Gungnir!"
Then he throws the spear with all his strength which sends the spear off at a speed that human devices couldn't measure.
Odin spect to see Ddraig trying to get away, yet he saw something much different.
The titanic beast stood his ground as he raised his weapon, and to Odin's surprise, his spear was met with its match.
A shockwave occurred, and earthquakes followed soon after.
Odin watched in complete shock as Ddraig's spear pushed back Gungnir until it inevitably failed to hit its target. "This can be true! Impossible. Gungnir failed?"
Odin's anger further increased as Ddraig smirked at him and challenged him.
"Bastard! I will take your head! My warriors arise from your sleep. Tonight we hunt the Welsh Dragon down!" Odin screams.
His words reached every corner of the capital. Warriors all around started shouting to the sky joyously as they got their weapons and armor ready.
Women, men, young ones, and even elders stood up armed to the teeth as they joined forces to give chase after the dragon that had threatened their home.
The hunt had just begun.
Meanwhile, in a particular part of the capital.
A young-looking goddess began to act as the rest of her home went on the hunt, her reddish resembling the reddish tone of her father while her body managed to balance the beauty of her mother and the physical might of her father.
A golden winged helmet covered her head and hid her expression as she sneaked around the halls of the place she called home.
"I need to move fast and get to the armory on time. Mjolnir, its copy, and the other weapons are likely there. We need to have them at hand before we depart." Thrud told herself as she evaded being found by the valkyries and warriors that were running around the place.
Everyone was focused on the dragon that had attacked the capital, but Thrud knew that this was a sign that the alliance was coming for her father and his allies.
She didn't join them on the battlefield when they disobeyed Odin. No, she played her paper according to her mother's intuition. They knew Odin would imprison them for treason once they returned to Asgard. She remained antagonistic to them and even sided with Odin to ensure that no doubts weren't placed on her. She was waiting for this moment as she had one task: to set everything for departure.
"This is no longer a welcoming home to us. Grandpa has gone insane. If we stay, we'll be pawns he will sacrifice as needed. The fact that he used Liv and the others as experiments prove his insanity. I know what I must, Dad, Mom. I will be ready to join you once they come for us." Thrud thought as she got closer and closer to her target; if she needed to knock a few heads on the way, she would do it, as she wasn't going to fail on her mission.
Tense moments passed until she finally arrived at the armory, which was ransacked from head to toe as everyone headed out to join the hunt.
Her eyes looked around the room until she finally found her target. Two large hammers and several other weapons lay sealed behind chains and magical seals.
One was a blue hammer with a blue outer frame, while the other was a platinum one with a red outer frame.
"Mjolnir, Junior, I have come for you," Thrud said as she approached the weapons.
Mjolnir and its copy quickly reacted to her words as electricity coursed through them.
"I'm sorry, Junior. I know that you feel lonely without me, but I'm back. It is time to leave this place." Thrud said as she approached the chains and started to work to release the weapons. "Gramps did well with these seals, but he taught me way too many secrets."
It didn't take long for Thrud to accomplish her goal and release the weapons from their imprisonment. Both hammers quickly floated towards her.
"Is alright. Dad and the others will join us soon, but we must move. I need to get to the goats. We're not leaving this place without them." Thrud said as the hammers shrunk in size before she placed them around her waist.
The goddess moved quickly to put the rest of the weapons inside a magic pouch she had with her, and with nothing else in her way, she turned around, ready to leave.
But luck wasn't on her side as her eyes met the smirking face of the worst possible guy at this moment.
"Loki."
"Thrud. What might you be doing with those hammers?" The god asks as he approaches her.
"Nothing that matters to you," Thrud said as she put the pouch away and reached out for both hammers. "Get out of my way."
"Oh, someone is a rebellious girl. What would Odin say about this? Tell me, were you lying all this time about being on Odin's side?" Loki asks as he stops in his tracks after seeing both hammers in her hands.
He wasn't stupid enough to get hit by either of them.
Thrud didn't feel threatened by Loki's words. Too much was a stake, so she decided to get the god out of her way. Electricity began to accumulate around her as her eyes started to shine.
"Oh, no words for your old friend Loki? It seems you're a traitor like-" Before Loki got the chance to finish his sentence, his head received a massive double hammer blow that sent him flying off to the opposite side of the residence. His body pierced several walls and caused a lot of damage to the structure.
"Stop talking for once," Thrud said as she ran away. "He's going to tell everyone what I did; I have no time to waste around. I need to go now before Gramps catches up to me."
Luckily for her, Odin and most gods were gone, with just a few faction members staying behind to protect the capital.
Loki's POV.
Loki started to get up as he removed the debris from his body. "That bitch had the guts to attack me. Shit." Loki spits some blood and sees a few of his teeth on the floor. The god laughs at the sight of this. "I got to give to Thor; he played us like fools. Thrud was working with them all along. Odin, your family is falling apart as we speak, and you haven't realized it yet. If this is the case, I should start moving my pieces around."
The mad god creates a small magic circle to communicate with someone. "Hel, it is time to act; bring your armies and "him" as well. I'm going to give Asgard a night they will never forget."
Loki ends the call and teleports to another area. His madness had no end, and he was willing to bring destruction to the residents of Asgard just to jumpstart a new war.
Tiamat POV.
While fights continue on the surface, Tiamat and her team swim in the cold waters below the continent.
"Asia, Kuroka, how are you keeping up?" Tiamat asked as she led her team in the darkness of this cold ocean.
"I'm alright," Asia replied. Her attire differed from the one Tiamat and the rest of the group used.
For Asia, the angels and fallen angels had prepared a particular experimental suit long before this mission. Code: Sacred Dove, a pure white technologic battlesuit that exorcists could use to aid them on any battlefield. The white battlesuit connects to the user's nervous system, allowing them far more fluid movement and sharper reflexes. The suit provides the usual protections like any other battlesuit. Still, Sacred Dove went an extra mile as it took the necessities of humans: oxygen, camouflage, the ability to fly, and resistance to the immense pressure of the depths of oceans were just some of the things the suit offered its user. Asia's battlesuit also had a few unique additions that would provide her a fighting chance in the face of danger.
"Is cold. Only Yukime would enjoy this place, but I can continue." Kuroka said as she followed her leader.
"Hey, it is not my fault that I'm more at ease in the cold," Yukime said as she watched their surroundings. "How's the rearguard, Dad?"
"We're safe for now. No beasts are coming our way." Tannin replies as he keeps his eyes wide open. "Ms. Rossweisse, how sure are you about Midg's and Fafnir's status?"
"I share memories and much more with my cousin. The eyes of Ymir created a deeper connection between us, and I'm sure both of them are likely sealed on Midg's island. We're almost there, so be ready to fight against any guards there." Rossweisse said. A large coffin-like item was hanging on her back for some unknown reason.
"There won't be a need for fights if we play it smart. Yukime, Kuroka, you'll go inside first. Let us know what you find. Asia, get your rifle ready. You'll use tranquilizers for as many guards as possible. Between the three of you, I know you'll bring them down. Take them out but don't kill them. Understood?" Tiamat asks.
"Yes, boss!" The three girls reply as they get closer to the surface.
Guards POV.
The guards continue to walk around the island while waiting for new orders. They had received messages regarding the attack of Ddraig in the capital, but they were kept from joining the fight.
"Stay in your positions. Those dragons shall not escape your watch. We have the situation under control." Said their superiors.
Those orders annoyed many of them.
"Man, this sucks. Why did we have to be trapped in this place? We should be out there fighting against our enemy." One guard said.
"We have our mission. We follow orders and nothing more. Odin-sama gave us the task of guarding this place, and we should do it with pride." Another guard argues.
Neither paid attention to the ocean next to them and from the depths, two figures arise while hiding their presence with a combination of their powers. Both figures quickly made their way to the beach, and from there, they decided on the path ahead while counting the number of guards within the area.
The island was small, and a large wooden home sat in its center, likely Midg's home.
As they approached the target, the pair counted at least eight guards around the island's perimeter. Neither could see signs of the Midg or the others.
The duo used the shadows and blind spots of the guards to approach the home. Once they reached the walls, they went inside the house without needing a door, as Yukime's ability made them basically ghosts.
Once inside, the harsh reality settled in front of them. Three women were chained to the supporting beams of the home. Each one looked hungry and angry at the guards that were happily eating at a table nearby.
Two small wolves were in a similar situation as the women but on the other side of the living hall. The wolves bared their fangs at the guards as they fought to escape their chains.
Finally, eleven large crystals were floating in the ceiling for some reason. The floor was covered in ancient runes, which seemed to be connected to the mysterious crystals.
Kuroka and Yukime counted three guards in the living room, but they still searched the rest of the home for other guards. Their search took up to three minutes, giving them the final number of guards on the island.
"8 outside."
"3 sleeping."
"3 eating."
"14 guards. We should start taking them down as quietly as possible." Yukime said in a low voice as she approached one of the sleeping guards.
"Do it," Kuroka said.
Yukime placed her hand on top of the Asgardian man. The guard's body was then imprisoned within the ice a few seconds. "One down. 13 to go."
"Right." Kuroka quickly rushed out of the room and moved to the next one to take care of the next target.
Yukime when after the remaining sleeping guard, thus leaving only three inside.
The guards eating at the table ignored the two ladies as they planned an approach that would keep their presence hidden.
"A frontal attack will put us a risk. Maybe a sleeping spell will be effective against the remaining guards." Kuroka said as she kept an eye on the guards.
"Are you confident about it? If you fail, I can rush in and knock them down." Yukime said as she planned her approach.
"Let me try. Hopefully, it works." Kuroka created a small magic circle. Sleeping gas was poured into the room, and in a matter of a few minutes, the room was filled with gas.
The guards and even the three women slowly became affected by the gas.
"Is working. Increase the intensity. I'll trap them inside ice afterward." Yukime said.
Kuroka did as told, and the guards were no longer a problem before long. Yukime moved quickly to capture the guards while Kuroka approached the women.
"Come on. Wake up. The guards are no longer a problem." Kuroka began to wake the ladies after releasing them from their chains.
"... What? How are you?" A bearded dwarven woman said as she began to get up.
"We're here to help. We came with Tiamat." Kuroka said.
Yukime finished her task and used the communicator. "Tiamat-sama, the inside is secured. Six guards are under control. Eight remain outside. I suggest a combined assault against the remaining guards. Ask Asia to open fire against isolated guards first. Those that are together will require a joint assault."
"Understood. Be ready." Tiamat replied.
Thus the mission had arrived at its first major checkpoint. On the surface, Ddraig continued to drag attention away from the capital, while on the ocean below, Tiamat and her group focused on securing Midg, Fafnir, and the rest.
Everything seemed to go according to plan, but overconfidence could lead even the most prepared teams to complete disaster.
