Chapter 15: Adventures in the Elements

At the Owl House, Luz, Minato, Katara and Tiger Lily were reading the Hexside brochures.
"Oh man I can't believe we're going to be students here." Lily said.
"King listen to this." Luz said getting his attention.
"Hey! Less ready, more scratchy!" King said laying on Luz's stomach.
"Sorry. Now that we'll be a student at Hexside, I wanna learn all about it! I've got a new crush, and her name is Education!" Luz said excited.
"I haven't been the student since Master Pakku. It'll be nice to take a break from teaching to learn things myself." Katara said.
"Same, my days of being self-taught are over." Minato said when Eda kicks the door open.
"Hey freeloaders! Guess what today is?" Eda calls out.
"Is it your birthday?" Luz asks.
"Is it my birthday?" King asks.
"It's my birthday." Hooty said when Eda slams the door on him.
"No, it's Human Treasure Day!" Eda throws the portal door in front of them and it opens revealing Owlbert and Dez each throwing in two large sacks.
One containing human junk and the other containing Yugioh Cards.
"Ah fresh garbage." Eda smiles jumping into the big pile.
"Why do I have to help your garbage collecting?" Dez growls.
"Hey I'm letting your kid have a playdate with mine. It's the least you can do." Eda said.
Dez was about to counter when King pushed past him and ran to the pile. "Ooo, gimme gimme gimme!" Rummaging around King pulled out a teddy bear. "Yes! Another worthy addition to my army of terror."
"I love cuddles and kisses." It said.
"Truly terrifying." King said.
"Yo, kids. Your trash pile's getting cold. While mine's getting hot. I have never seen such an extravagant earring." Eda said pulling out a coat hanger.
"Uh Eda that's not an earring. You can hang clothes on it." Katara said.
"Hang clothes from your earring? You have weird stuff in world Katara." Eda said getting the wrong idea.
"You can have my trash Eda." Minato said.
"Mine too. Whoa. Did you know that Hexside was built on the bones of its rival school? One it literally conquered." Luz gasps.
"Whoa, that's hardcore." Tiger Lily said impressed.
"Yes I know all these things, I went there. It was the most harrowing period of my life." Eda said putting coat hangers on her ears and looking at her reflection. "Hmm hello."
"Can you guys imagine it? Us in the halls of Hexside, hanging out with Willow and Gus." Amity smiles.
"And maybe Amity." Minato said.
"Maybe?" Katara asks.
"It's complicated." Minato sighs when Luz gasps.
"Oh cramity! Minato we gotta meet her and get our Azura book back!" Luz reminds standing up.
"Oh no! Uh we'll be right back!" Minato said jumping up out of his seat.
"Love you guys!" Luz said.
"I love you too Lu—" Before Hooty could finish Luz slams the door on him.
"Those two are all over the place." Dez said.
"Eh who needs them?" Eda said.
"Yeah this bear could be our new Luz." King said holding it up.
"Being without you is un-bearable." It said.
"You're unbearable!" King said throwing it to the ground.
"Never a dull moment in this place." Lily rolls her eyes.
Meanwhile in Bonesborough, Willow and Gus were walking down the street.
"Gus you really shouldn't be walking while reading. You'll trip on something." Willow said.
"I can't help it, when I gotta know how this ends." Gus said reading a manga book.
Passing by a café they heard loud music being played followed by tons of boos.
"Sounds like someone isn't popular." Willow said.
Stopping Willow and Gus heard the music and despite the booing actually sounded pretty catchy.
"Hey that's not bad." Gus said when the music suddenly stopped.
"Get out!" The door opens and some guys throw someone out the door and landing in the trash.
"And take your weird instrument with you!" Throwing a guitar out it lands next to him.
"Oh my titan!" Gus gasps as they ran to help the person out.
"Are you okay?" Willow asks concerned grabbing what she thought was a green belt around his waist.
"Hey don't touch that." A male voice said.
Yelping they saw the belt was actually a tail.
Popping his head out, Willow and Gus saw it was a teenage boy around their age. He had short brown hair, green eyes, some emerald scales on both his cheeks and back of his hands.
"Sorry about that, get a little sensitive when people grab my tail." He said as they helped him out. "Thanks."
"Uh no problem." Willow said.
"What happened in there?" Gus asks.
"I was trying out a new song or open mic but well, I didn't get much love." He sighs.
"We liked it." Willow said getting his attention.
"Yeah it made me want to start dancing." Gus said.
"Thanks, well you two are the first. If played this for Bard class I'd be a joke." He shook his head.
"Wait you go to Hexside too? So do we." Gus said.
"Wow, small world. I never really get out much so forgive me if I don't recognize you." He said.
"Well I'm Willow and this is Gus." Willow introduced.
"My name's Ezra, Ezra Bazil. Nice to meet you both." He smiles holding out his hand.
"So Ezra what was that music you were playing? I never heard something like that before." Willow asks.
"That's because it's not from here. You know that human wonders booth that's here on the weekends?" Ezra asks.
"Yeah." Both said thinking about Eda's booth.
"Well I went there once and I found this awesome Earth band." Ezra reaches into his bag and pulls out a CD for the band Big Time Rush.
"Big Time Rush?" Gus read.
"They play this awesome and when I heard it I knew I wanted to try to make music just like it." Ezra said before grabbing his guitar and making music similar to BTR. "If you want it all, lay it on the line. It's the only life you got so you got it live it big time!"
Immediately Willow and Gus applauded him surprising him.
"That's sounds cool." Gus said.
"I like it." Willow said.
"Really?" Ezra smiles.
"Yeah, if you wanna test your songs out on an audience we'd be happy to listen." Willow said.
"Cool…hey you guys wanna hangout? I know a good café nearby. Not this one." Ezra points.
"Sure." Willow nods as they walked down the path.
"So Ezra you like human stuff huh?" Gus asks.
"Yeah sort of." Ezra said.
"Well then wait until you meet our other friends." Gus smiles.
"Are they students like us?" Ezra asks.
"Hopefully." Willow asks.
In the opposite direction, Luz and Minato were running around looking to meet up with Amity.
"Now where is she?" Luz said looking around when Minato spots her by a booth.
"Oh there she is." Minato points. "Hey Amity!" He waves getting her attention.
"Luz! Minato!" Emira and Edric said appearing in front of them startling them.
Jumping back Minato held out his hands in defense but ends up bumping into Luz knocking both to the ground.
"Stop bothering them." Amity said walking over to help them up. "Sorry, they insisted on coming for some reason."
"Because we love you baby sister." Emira teases squeezing Amity's face until she pushed her away.
"They've been extra protective and nice towards me to make up for library incident." Amity said.
"Oh yeah…" Both cringed.
"And we still apologize everyday." Edric said.
"In any case, here's your book." Amity said handing it back to Minato.
"So what'd you think?" Luz asks.
"It was fine." Amity said.
"So fine you drew yourself with Malingale the Mysterious Soothsayer?" Minato smirks pulling a drawing that was wedged in the book.
Blushing red, Amity casts a spell burning it.
"Aw I wanted to keep that." Minato said.
"This great, maybe the three of us can form an Azura club at school when we're classmates." Luz suggests confusing Amity.
"When we're what?" Amity asks.
"Surprise! Minato and I are enrolling in Hexside!" Luz said as they took out their pamphlets.
"Oh uh, sorry, but to be in my class, you need to take a placement exam and prove that you've mastered two spells." Amity turns it over to show the requirements. "I mean I know Minato has all his wind spells but do you know anything Luz?"
"Placement exam? Spells?" Luz gulps in horror.
"Everyone has to know at least 2?" Minato gulps.
"Quit giving her a hard time, Mittens." Emira said.
"Of course they know enough spells." Edric assumes.
"Yeah of course I do." Luz said nervously.
"Because if you don't they'll put you in the baby class." Amity said showing them that part of the pamphlet.
"Ooh brain idea. What if we all trained together? We can show you what we know." Edric offers.
"Uh actually we have other plans for our training." Luz said.
"In fact we gotta go. Bye!" Minato said as they ran back to the Owl House at top speed.
Back at the Owl House, Eda was in the kitchen with Dez.
"You know I'm actually enjoying this peace and quiet." Dez said.
"Me too…how long before it's ruined?" Eda asks when the door opens.
"Eda!" Luz and Minato yell.
"I'm gonna guess now." Dez said as Minato and Luz ran in.
"You gotta teach us all new spells now!" Luz said with Lily and Katara coming in behind them.
"Sorry these vegetables won't cook themselves. Yet." Eda said zapping the veggies making them come to life. "All right all of you into the pot."
However the veggies just ran off.
"Why do I always think that's gonna work?" Eda asks.
"Next time try the knife. You might have better luck." Dez snickers.
"Eda, we all need to know at least 2 spells to enroll in Hexside and right now Luz and Lily only know one." Minato said.
"What?" Lily gasps.
"Phew, at least I have my bending." Katara said.
"Actually that's not magic, you gotta learn spells too." Dez said shocking her.
"What?!" Katara panics.
"All I know is my light glyph." Luz said.
"And whose fault is that?" Eda asks.
"Yours." Luz points.
"Ha. You kids got me there." Eda laughs.
"It's time for you two to step up and teach us something." Minato said.
"Hmm I don't know." Dez said.
"Well, I have been researching my texts on wild magic and Miguel's journal, but I'm much too busy right now." Eda said.
"Eda you're the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles." Luz said.
"And Dez, you're the Calamity Imp." Minato points.
"How would it look if almost all your students wound up in the baby class?" Luz asks.
"Baby class?" Katara and Lily cringed hating this more and more.
"Hold on, that could reflect poorly on us." Dez realized.
"Weaponizing my pride. Well played. Well, in that case, this looks like a job for magic boot camp." Eda said when the door swings open revealing King.
"Did someone say boot camp? I agree to run it. We'll rise at dawn! You'll carry me on your back as I yell hateful things about your performance!" King said.
"No way am I letting you be my Master Yoda." Minato said.
"Nope. You'll have no part in this. These 4 need to focus, and I can't have them go all weird when you do something adorable." Eda said.
"I am not adorable!" King said stomping his foot.
"Aww." All four teens said.
Screeching King stormed out.
"All right Dez, since Katara came from your magic I'm leaving her training to you." Eda said.
"You got it. Get ready Katara, I'm gonna make a witch out of this bender." Despairo grins cracking his knuckles.
"Now, no time to waste. You three will have to follow my teaching exactly. We gotta go somewhere special." Eda starts.
"Yes." Luz grins.
"A place where magic just flows." Eda continues.
"Yes." Minato grins.
Soon the 6 of them were wearing winter coats in a snowy background as they looked at a giant mountain.
"A place like, the Knee!" Eda declares.
"Yes!" All the teens cheered.
"The earliest witches came to the Knee to develop their magic, drawn to its natural power." Eda said.
"So it's the best place to get you four learning new spells." Dez said leading them up and saw tons of old ruins covered snow.
"Wow, that's pretty neat." Lily said.
"Sugoi." Minato said in awe.
"It's beautiful." Luz said.
"Though, it's not without its dangers." Eda gestures to the side.
Looking down all of them yelp seeing a large creature gnawing on a tree trunk.
"What is that?" Katara gulps.
"The Slitherbeast. Quite a nasty little beast." Dez said.
"Will it attack us?" Minato gulps.
"Don't worry, if you don't mess with him, he won't mess with you." Eda said before handing him a heavy backpack. "Now let's get moving."
"I wish I hadn't left the monado back home." Minato mutters as they followed after her.
Soon they made camp at a small patch.
"Here's where we'll set up shop." Eda said.
"Alright girls, we got some spells to learn." Luz said pumped up.
"Oh yeah, I'm not coming down from this mountain until I do." Lily grins.
"Gorgeous views, magic in the air. And best of all, we're completely alone." Luz said when a pink light shined nearby.
"Look out!" Eda yells pulling Luz out of the way as a pink fireball narrowly missed them.
"Sorry, whoever's over there!" Popping their heads up they saw Amity and her siblings had also come here.
"Forget teaching us a spell. Just make us disappear." Luz cringes.
"Hey it's her. Amity." Tiger Lily remembers.
"Oh boy." Minato cringed as they came over.
"Hey guys." Emira said.
"It's us." Edric smiles when he noticed Lily, Katara and Dez. "Whoa more humans?"
"Tiger Lily?" Amity said not expecting to see her again.
"Yep, been a while." Lily nods.
"And who are you?" Amity asks.
"I'm Katara nice to meet you." Katara said.
"Oh uh I'm Amity, this is my older siblings Emira and Edric." Amity introduced.
"Oh I know who you are. Minato and Luz have told me all the stuff you've done." Katara narrows her eyes causing the Blight siblings to gulp.
"So what are you guys doing here?" Minato asks.
"I'm here to train. I'm trying to beat Ed and Em's highest score on the exam." Amity said.
"Aw, Mittens. That's impossible." Emira smiles.
"She needs to use a training wand to learn new spells." Edric smirks pointing to the wand in her hand. "So what are you working on?"
"We got some awesome training of our own." Dez said.
"Yeah so we better get to our training." Minato suggests.
"Yeah Eda's a great teacher." Luz said when Eda walks over holding a basket of snowballs.
"Luz. I shall now teach you how to identify different types of snow by taste." Eda said pushing a snowball towards Luz's cheek. "Come on eat the snow."
Pausing everyone looked at Eda with weird looks.
"Is this some kind of…special magic?" Emira asks confused.
"I don't think the Owl Lady wants to show us any of her powerful spells." Amity said.
"Well good luck with your training." Edric said as they were about to walk away.
"Hey!" Katara calls out getting their attention. "I got my eye on you three."
"Water tribe." Luz said making a cool pose making Minato snicker knowing where she got that from.
Once they were gone everyone turned to Eda.
"Eating snowballs? What the heck was that?" Minato asks.
"Eda, can you please take this seriously?" Luz asks.
"Yeah that was dumb." Lily agrees.
"You kids need to take us seriously. Go taste snow without my guidance, see where it gets you." Eda said as Luz frowned. "If you listen to me, soon you'll be doing stuff like that."
Looking over they saw Amity use a wand to make a fireball.
"Ha wands. Nothing but a cheap trick." Dez mocks. "We'll be doing the real deal. Come on Katara. We got work to do."
"See you guys soon." Katara said walking away with Dez.
"All right, kids time to get to work." Eda grins.
"Okay Eda we trust you." Luz said.
"Good, now that we've covered snow let's move onto Moss." Eda said grabbing some and putting it up her nose. "Now the trick is, you really gotta get it up in there."
"Yeah that's gross." Lily cringed.
Back at the Owl House, King was sitting in front of the door.
"This is ludicrous! I once led armies. I can lead a dang boot camp. But I have no recruits." King said before looking at some of his stuffed animals. "Or do I?"
"Yep! It's your faithful pal Hooty reporting for duty! Up at dawn, taking orders all day long!" Hooty said eagerly.
"Ugh no you are too desperate." King said running inside and getting his toys. "Roll call! New Guy, Aloysius Turtle, Chip, Beefy Bob and Francois. Oh, you're perfect already." King said hugging Francois. "As for the rest of you, I'm only saying this once so listen up."
However them being stuffed animals nothing happened.
"Huh it's no fun if they don't tremble." King said when he noticed the veggies Eda brought to life throwing stuff over the cliff and cheering. "Yep, an idea is happening."
From the bushes, King didn't notice Hachi was watching this with interest.
Back at the knee, Eda was training with Minato first.
In a small patch surrounded by ruins, Eda was holding Miguel's journal as Minato sat on a rock nearby with Amity and her sibling nearby.
"All right you've pretty much mastered wind, and you do decent with Reinforcement magic. But now it's time to step outside your element. Literally." Eda said.
"What do you mean?" Minato asks.
"Don't get me wrong, Wind is good, but you gotta branch out. A good warlock never relies on one type of spell. Even the tracks have ways for you to expand. Time to be original for once." Eda said.
"I'm sorry what?" Minato gulps.
"Wind is the most flexible element. From the wind can come the storm and from the storm comes lightning and rain. Two elements you can possibly learn, but they can teach you that at Hexside. I want you to create something powerful. Make something that's unique to you and that isn't from an anime." Eda said.
"Uhm…okay." Minato gulps as Eda showed him a page from Miguel's journal.
"See your dad was trying to figure out how to use his magic and change it to other spells. You need to use your head and figure out how to expand on your element or sooner or later everyone will be kicking your butt." Eda said.
"What? No way." Minato said not liking this.
"That's what I thought. Now get to work. I got two others to check on." Eda said.
"Alright." Minato said walking away.
Next Eda went go train Tiger Lily.
On a ledge, Eda was having Lily look out at the cliffs.
"Okay you know how to do the whip, but ever beast expert has the ability to summon a beast at will. The whip is like the signal, I want you to try and concentrate and summon a beast by your side." Eda said.
"How do I do that?" Lily asks as Eda walked up behind her.
"First picture the type of beast you want summoned, and call out to it." Eda said.
"Okay let's see what kind beasts are on this island?" Lily pauses when she sees a griffin in the distance.
"Perfect. Griffin come!" Lily calls out but nothing happened. "Griffin I summon you…Griffin get your butt down here!" Lily yells making Eda laugh.
"I think you need to figure out another creature to summon." Eda snickers.
"But the only beasts I know are from Neverland." Lily said.
"Well then you need to figure out what you do now and try and summon it." Eda said.
On her ledge, Lily sat down on some rocks and tried to figure out what and how to summon it.
"Hmm." Suddenly a wind blew her hair feathers out causing her to yelp and catch them. "Hmph shame there are no eagles in the Boiling Isles."
Down below in a small dry clearing with now snow or ice Dez was floating around Katara.
"Katara, your bending is strong but those are your old skills. Now that you have half my magic in me you can do so much more." Dez said.
"Like what?" Katara asks.
Smirking Despairo holds out his hand and using his magic created water with ease surrounding Katara.
Gasping Katara looks in shock before Dez turned the water to ice and then into steam.
"I don't even need to be around water to summon it." Dez smirks.
"But how?" Katara asks confused.
"Calamities and chaos don't make sense, that's the Boiling Isles don't even come near me. I'm that crazy." Despairo chuckles.
"So how do I do it?" Katara asks.
"The trick is making the water appear through magic. You've had to rely on water always being near you, but for this. You gotta make it yourself." Dez said even taking her waterpouch for good measure.
Standing up Katara took a stance as if she was gonna waterbend.
"Remember you make the water. My magic is deep inside you, you gotta bring it out and use it yourself." Dez said.
Thrusting her hands forward Katara tried to make water but only a few drops came out.
"This might take a while." Dez cringed taking his hat off and scratching his head.
Hours passed and the three of them were struggling while Amity seemed to rocking it with her wand.
As Eda was sitting by the fire sipping her drink Minato was nearby doing his own training.
"Okay, I've identified the smells of three different rocks, sorted all the twigs from big to small, and found your glove, and your hand." Luz said holding it out revealing one of Eda's hands was missing.
"Ah, I was wondering where that thing went." Eda said.
"How's your training coming along?" Luz asks looking to Minato.
"Minato's been trying to step outside his element." Eda said.
"How's that working out?" Luz asks.
Turning around Minato held out his hand.
"Come on, come on." Minato growls when a few small sparks of lightning came out.
"Well…that was kinda cool." Luz said.
"No it isn't. It took me two hours just to make those sparks." Minato groans.
"And you're going to keep trying until you give me something big and original." Eda said.
Groaning Minato held his head frustrated but sparks were still there resulting in Minato zapping himself.
"Minato!" Luz gasps.
"I'm okay." Picking himself up Minato's hair no longer pointed up. As he turned his head they saw the electricity made his hair all pointy opposite his head like a compass needle.
Snickering Luz struggled to hold her laughter back.
"What? Do I have something on my face?" Minato asks but Luz burst into laughter along with Eda as they pointed to his hair.
Feeling around he felt the problem and immediately covers his hair with his hat embarrassed.
"Look kids, I know my lessons seem weird but this is what wild magic is all about! Making a connection with nature. Harnessing the power you've got hidden inside you. The earliest witches understood that. You guys need to understand it too. You wanna learn a new spell?" Eda asks.
"With all my heart." Luz said.
"More than anything." Luz said.
Leading her away, Eda sat Luz on a rock.
"Then you have to learn from the island." Eda gestures as from the view Luz saw all the way to the titan's head.
"Whoa." Luz said.
"Minato has his style, and Lily and Katara are learning theirs. Time for you to learn yours. Now look and think about what the island is trying to tell you." Eda said leaving Luz alone.
"Alright, Luz. Look. Look with everything you've got. Focus." Luz said when she raised her hands and spoke through them.
"Focus? On what? On you'll be stuck in the baby class and Minato leaving you behind?" Luz's right hand asks.
"No! Don't talk like that." Luz gasps.
"Face it, you'll never get a second spell following Eda's lessons." Luz's left hand said.
"Silence hands!" Luz snaps when crashes got her attention.
Looking down she saw Amity destroy a pillar.
"Amity dinner time." Emira said.
"I caught a bat." Edric said.
"Edric, don't eat that." Amity puts her book and wand down as she goes to stop him.
"If I wanna be in the same class as Amity and Minato, I'm gonna need to learn magic like Amity." Luz said.
"Great work Luz." Luz's left hand said.
"Sssh. I don't need your validation." Luz shushes.
At the Owl House, Hooty was outside all alone.
"Hmm I wonder how everyone else is doing?" Hooty asks when he heard movement. "Who's there?"
Emerging from the bushes Hachi walked up to him and barks.
"Oh hey, who are you? Sorry Eda isn't home right now. She took her students away to train." Hooty said causing Hachi to frown realizing Minato wasn't here.
"But hey if you want to hang out with me for the time being I'd like that." Hooty offers.
Sitting down the akita palisman tilts his head.
Inside King was pouring the same potion Eda used on the veggies for his toys.
"Military discipline, cooking. Ha, I truly am a demon for all seasons. Just a dash of Eda's secret sauce and I'm the creator of life." King said pouring it on all his toys except Francois making them all come to life.
"Yes, yes, yes! My loyal recruits!" King cheers.
As all the toys stood up King walks in front of them.
"Welcome to boot camp! You sure need it. Look at you: raggedy, pathetic, chewed on, you got a button hanging off of your eye. Pathetic! But I'll mold you worms into... slightly better kinds of worms. Your first mission: gimme snacks! Your commander is hungry, so pick it up!" King orders.
As the toys climbed off and headed to the snacks while New Guy went in the opposite direction.
"Hey, Private Dingdong, snacks are that way." King said smacking him on the head. "You better shape up recruit, you're in myboot camp now."
As New Guy turns away his eyes began to glow red.
Back at the Knee, Katara was panting heavily as her hair hung down her sides while Despairo was floating in front of her.
"Come on, that can't be the best you got." Dez said.
"Why can't I just stick my bending? I'm fine with carrying a canteen everywhere." Katara said.
"That's loser talk kid. Bending might have worked in your world but this is a whole new location, if you don't step up you'll never catch up with the others." Despairo said floating up to her so she could look him in the eyes. "You know the reason I chose to bring you to life?"
"To mess with Minato." Katara assumes.
"Well partially, but I saw what you can do. You're tough, and you're determined. You don't take the easy way through things. Now I want you to dig deep inside of you muster up whatever you can or did I waste magic on a wimp?" Despairo snaps.
"I am not a wimp." Katara said determined.
"That's what I'm talking about! Do it!" Dez yells creating a megaphone. "Make some water!"
Nearby Tiger Lily flinched hearing that from her area.
"Well they seem busy. Hope they're having better luck than me.
Deciding to take a break from her training Lily went to go grab some water.
As she walked up to grab her canteen when she noticed Minato training.
"Come on." Minato growls as wind started to gather in front of him. "Almost got it…" But in the end the magic exploded knocking him into the snow.
Cringing Lily walked up to him, "You were close that time." Lily said causing Minato to groan.
"Ugh I am such a loser." Minato said.
"Hey you're not a loser." Lily said.
"Oh yeah? I'm the son of the biggest hero on the Boiling Isles and I can't do any spell that's original, I can't figure out how to add to my element, I can't even fly. What do you call that?" Minato asks.
"A loser." Lily admits. "But hey, I can't even summon to beast my side. If my dad saw me right now he'd lecture me for days."
"At least your family wants you around. Mine wants me 6 feet under." Minato said.
"You've had years of practice, I barely have a few weeks." Lily said.
"I'm basically a walking copyright with all the anime moves I have to use." Minato said causing both to smile and laugh.
"I guess we're both losers." Lily smiles.
"Yeah...but look at it this way. Maybe we can both pull each other out of this or at the very least we can be losers together." Minato smiles.
"I'd like that." Lily smiles sitting down next to him.
"I just wish I could figure out how to expand on my wind powers, but I have no idea how." Minato sighs.
"Well maybe because you need to give this new spell a form. You're just throwing everything together. Try thinking of something when you do it." Lily suggests.
"Hmm that's not a bad idea." Minato admits.
"Now if only I can summon beasts that way. I can't figure out anything with these Boiling Isles beasts." Lily sighs.
"Well then do beasts you know. I mean I read your book didn't your dad teach you all about special animals?" Minato recalls causing her eyes to widen.
In her mind, Lily sees herself back at her tribe as there was a ceremonial dance in front of the fire played and she saw a totem pole.
"Wait…that's it. Minato thank you." Smiling Lily gives Minato a hug before running off to practice leaving him speechless.
"Wow, good to see she's got it figured out. Now what do I do about my problem?" Minato asks when he heard a noise.
Looking down from his area, he saw Emira and Amity glaring at Edric who was holding a bat.
"Ed, give me that bat!" Emira said.
"No! If we're not gonna eat it, I wanna keep it as a pet!" Edric said running away.
"Get back here before that thing bites you!" Emira said as she and Amity ran after him.
"Wait a minute." Looking at Amity, Minato pauses getting an idea. "I know what I'm gonna make."
Near the Blight tent, Luz snuck in and grabbed Amity's book and wand.
Making her way back up to the ledge by their campsite, Luz opened the book to see another Amity drawing.
"Huh. Minato was right, not bad." Luz admits before spotting a spell with the words FOCUS written in runes.
"Okay here we go." Aiming the wand out, Luz made a circle and a fireball shot out before exploding into the air.
From their training areas: Minato, Tiger Lily, Katara and Dez saw that.
"Whoa what in the?" Minato said as a large shadow that was behind him looked up as well.
"What in the?" Deciding to check it out Dez flew to the location with everyone else right behind him.
"I did magic! I did magic! Without drawing anything! This thing is the coolest!" Luz smiles jumping up and down with joy.
"Hold it right there." Eda said getting her attention. "What are you doing with that?"
"I'm learning magic. What would you have me do? Eat more snow? Lick a rock? Or are you gonna try to have me make small sparks until I zap myself like Minato?" Luz mocks.
Pausing Eda frowns. "Okay, so maybe my methods are...unique, but so is your magic. Everyone's magic is unique: Minato, Tiger Lily and Katara. Connecting to the island can help you. That wand can't."
"Well, it's already helped me. Just watch what I can do!" Luz held out the wand to make another magic circle but the battery on the wand flashed meaning it was low causing Luz's fireball to fly out of control and fly into the forest.
Roaring the Slitherbeast emerged from the trees with a huge burn on the side.
"You've angered the Slitherbeast!" Eda said horrified.
"Will it accept a heartfelt apology?" Luz asks when the creature noticed the burnt tip of Luz's wand and roars.
"What the heck is going on here?!" Flying in behind them Dez drops his jaw all the way to the ground.
"Pull yourself together!" Eda said poking his jaw with her staff making him roll it all the way back up.
"Watch out!" Dez pushes Luz out of the way allowing the Slitherbeast to grab him and Eda.
"Eda! Dez!" Luz gasps.
"Luz!" Running over Minato, Tiger Lily, Katara, Amity, Emira and Edric arrived.
"What's going on?" Minato asks.
"What did we miss?" Edric asks.
"And what are you doing with my wand?" Amity asks making Luz nervous.
"Uhm." Luz said as Amity took her stuff back.
"Mittens, we've got bigger problems." Emira said as the beast got closer growling at them.
"Now I really wish I brought the Monado!" Minato panics
Roaring the Slitherbeast swings his arms at Amity.
"Look out!" Minato pushes her out of the way and was knocked into the snow.
"Minato!" Luz gasps in horror while Amity looked at him with wide eyes.
'H-He saved me.' Amity thought speechless when Edric and Emira move in front.
"Aw, he's so cute. Can we keep him?" Emira asks.
"It's no bat, but we could try." Edric said.
Both twins created magical ropes that wrapped around the beasts arm yanking it to the ground.
Creating her whip, Lily and Katara ran to opposite sides and tied it's legs down.
"You got it! Now finish it off!" Eda said.
"Hurry!" Dez yells.
"I'm on it!" Amity raises her wand but nothing came out. "What? Did you use the battery up?"
"I-I didn't know." Luz stutters.
"Come on Luz." Emira said.
"Do those powerful spells you were talking about." Edric said.
Nearby Minato groaned slowly getting up.
"But I…don't actually know anything." Luz confesses.
Seeing this Minato couldn't help but frown.
Breaking free from the constraints, the Slitherbeast knocks Lily and Katara backwards before grabbing Edric and Emira.
"Edric! Emira! No!" Amity screams as the beast ran off with its 4 prisoners much to their horror.
Back at the Owl House, Hooty was having some fun with Hachi.
"Ha! Ha! Can't catch me little fella!" Hooty laughs as Hachi ran along his tube before reaching his face. "You got me!"
Barking Hachi leaps off and smiles.
"Yeah that was fun." Hooty said.
Inside King's toys had loaded up on snacks while he and Francois sat on the couch.
"Yep, keep'em coming." King said to Aloysius turtle. "And don't forget the pretzels this time." Opening a bag of chips he turns to Francois. "Running a boot camp is tough work, but as my second-in-command, you deserve this."
As King dumps the chips on top of him New Guy slowly reaches out to take one.
"Hey, hey! Private New Guy! You're not privy to snacking privileges, back away!" King said making New Guy's eyes glow red again.
"Leading this boot camp has tuckered a little guy out, so Sergeant King signing off." King puts a nightcap on himself and Francois, but when he tried to fall asleep, he sees all his toys look down at him with glowing red eyes. "Could you maybe turn down those eyeballs? Trying to sleep."
Reaching out, Beefy Boy pulls New Guy's string.
"Don't you want a hug?" It asks in a creepy voice scaring King.
At the Knee, Minato, Lily and Katara were slow to get up as they made their way towards Amity and Luz.
"What do we do?" Luz asks.
"I am going after them. You are staying here." Amity said.
"But that thing has Eda." Luz said.
"And Dez." Minato adds.
"And because of Luz it also has my brother and sister. You three can come but she is staying put." Amity points.
Drawing a magic circle a cage appeared around Luz.
"What? No, Minato get me out of here." Luz begs.
Frowning Minato turns to her. "Best stay where it's safe."
As the four of them ran off, Luz was all alone.
"Stupid island!" Luz kicks a rock and cringed in pain. Sitting down she looks out at the titan. "You were supposed to teach me magic."
Taking out a notepad, she drew the light glyph. "Guess I'll never learn more than this."
Touching it, the ball of light floated up into the sky and into the stars.
But when Luz looked up she noticed something.
"Wait…is that?" In the stars, they were aligned to take the shape of a glyph. "A light glyph? But what does that mean?"
As a snowflake drops in her hand Luz's eyes widen see a glyph was carved in it before it melt. "A gift from the island. It means…" Taking a stick she drew the glyph in the snow and when she touched it a pillar of ice came out. "Magic is everywhere! Magic is everywhere!"
Filled with joy Luz uses her new spell to make a huge pillar to launch her right out of the cage.
"My second spell! Thank you island! Thank you Eda!" Luz smiles before remembering where she was. "Eda! I gotta save her!"
At the Owl House, Hooty and Hachi were listening to music together as King was dealing with something inside.
"Hey! How dare you mutiny! Unhand your commander right now!" King yells as he was thrown out the window. "I gave you life, I can take it away!" Once he said that knives and arrows were thrown around him.
Pausing both looked over to see King get up.
"Who are you?" King asks looking at Hachi.
"His name's Hachi, he's my new best friend." Hooty said but Hooty just tilts his head not sure about that.
"Well great news, buddy, you can be in the boot camp. Your new friend too. First task: destroy the boot camp." King orders.
"Hmm no." Hooty said.
"What? But you practically begged to join." King said.
"You said I sounded desperate. Can you believe that Hachi?" Hooty asks but Hachi just looked in the opposite direction.
"Ugh. What do you want?" King groans annoyed.
"I don't know. What are you offering?" Hooty asks.
Getting an idea, King took out chalk and used it to draw a body for Hooty on the door.
"Wow, this is incredible. It's so real. You got yourself a deal." Hooty opens the door and King and Hachi watched as stuffing flew everywhere.
Barking Hachi cringed.
"Yeah I'm with you. This day shall live in infamy." King declares as New Guy's head landed in front of them.
Back at the Knee, we find ourselves at the Slitherbeat's cave as Eda, Dez, Emira and Edric were trapped in a purple goo unable to move.
"Don't worry. We'll be fine." Emira said when skeletons dropped down in front of them.
"You sure about that?" Dez asks.
"No, we're gonna die." Edric said.
"That's right death is here." A skeleton head was lifted up only to reveal it was Luz. "Just kidding, it's me Luz."
"Kid get outta here. Dez and I are just gonna sneak away when it starts eating the twins." Eda admits.
"Wait what?!" Emira panics.
"Hey Eda's old and I'm small. Compared us you to are the tasty ones." Dez points out.
"Hey I'm not old." Eda glares.
"The gray hair says otherwise." Dez said.
"Don't worry, Eda, I get it now. I was so obsessed with learning my second spell, I didn't listen to you. But now I'm gonna save you." Luz said before sneaking away to help the others.
"That poor, sweet, doomed girl." Dez shook his head.
"Well, at least I got to see her misplaced confidence one last time." Eda gulps.
Near the front, the other 4 teens were slowly sneaking in.
As Minato and Amity pop their heads out from behind a boulder Luz pops her out next to them.
"Luz?" Amity said surprised.
"Hello." Luz smiles as Minato yanks him back with them.
"How did you get past the barrier?" Minato asks.
"Magic. Literally. But forget that because the 5 of us have to work together if we wanna save everyone." Luz said.
"You got a plan?" Katara asks.
"As a matter of fact I do." Luz said pulling them all into a group huddle.
Nearby the Slitherbeast crawled over to its prisoners and sprinkled spices on them.
"Ugh this is why I always tell Minato easy on the garlic." Eda sneezes.
"Hey ugly!" Minato yells.
Near the entrance the beast saw Luz, Minato and Lily waving at him.
"Come and get us you big idiot!" Luz mocks.
"If you can!" Lily yells as the three of them ran out with the Slitherbeast right behind it.
Using this chance, Amity and Katara crawled up to them.
"Amity." Emira smiles.
"Katara." Dez smiles. "Quick use your water to weaken this."
"And use your fire spell." Emira adds.
"But I can't do it without the wand." Amity said.
"And I don't have enough water." Katara said.
"Then make your own. You can do it. I believe in you." Dez smiles.
Seeing how much the little imp trusted her Katara took a stance.
Taking a deep breath she concentrated causing blue magic to come from her hands allowing her to blast the slime weakening it.
"Come on Amity. If she can do it so can you." Emira said.
Taking a deep breath, Amity made a circle and a pink fireball appeared.
"Cool. I didn't think you could actually do it." Emira said impressed as the two of them broke everyone free.
"I knew you could do it kid." Dez smiles patting Katara on the shoulder.
"Had a good teacher." Katara smiles when they heard screaming from outside.
"Luz! Minato!" Eda panics.
"Lily!" Dez and Katara gasps.
Outside, Luz was leading Minato and Lily towards a tree with the beast right behind them.
"Luz what are you doing?!" Lily asks.
"Trust me." Luz said as they had their backs to the tree.
Growling the slitherbeast got close.
"Gotcha!" Slamming her foot down on a huge ice glyph it shot up right under the beast sending it crashing to the ground.
"Whoa! What was that?" Minato said amazed.
"Second spell." Luz smiles proudly.
As the others ran out they saw the beast approach the trio again.
"Well since we're doing this. Let me show you my second spell." Lily said stepping forward.
Taking a deep breath, Lily held out her hands and took a stance. Like an eagle When she did magic surrounded her stance.
"I can't summon real beasts but I figured out the next best thing." Lily declares as her magic was released and the magic took the form of a glowing orange eagle flew out.
"Whoa, what is that?" Luz said in awe.
"Spirit animals." Tiger Lily declares as it flew in and attacked the Slitherbeast making it roar and try and swat it away.
"Whoa, that's pretty cool." Eda said impressed.
"It's not enough we need a heavy hit." Dez said.
Smiling Minato stepped up.
"Since we're all doing this, how about I show you all what I learned?" Minato asks.
"Go for it." Luz grins.
Concentrating, Minato held out his hand and tons of magic formed in it.
"Rise! Elemental Abomination!" Slamming his hand to the ground all the magic exploded into one spot.
As the Slitherbeast swatted Lily's Spirt Eagle away it was met with a punch to the face.
Eyes widen in shock everyone saw an abomination but it was different than normal ones. It had indigo slime for a body, mini tornados spinning around its arms.
"What is that?" Edric gasps.
"I've never seen an Abomination like that in my entire life." Emira gasps while Amity was looking at Minato with shock and awe.
"Now that's some originality right there." Eda grins.
"Go Cyclone Slam!" Minato yells.
Roaring the Elemental Abomination charged at full speed and rammed into the Slitherbeast slamming it to the ground.
"Keep going!" Minato said as his abomination kept up its attacks punching it multiple times before the Slitherbeast threw it off and turned to the other group.
"Want me to teach you kids something cool?" Eda asks.
"Yes!" All the Blights said.
"Sleep Spell!" Eda fired a magic circle at the beast but when it hit the Slitherbeast roars still barely holding on.
"It's still awake?" Katara panics.
"That spell is super powerful. We need something that can calm it down for it to take effect." Eda said.
"But what?" Dez asks when Minato got an idea.
"Let me try something." Minato said walking forward.
Roaring the Slitherbeast lashed at Minato but in its sleepy state it missed.
Slowly Minato whistled a soft tune causing it to stop in confusion.

Calming down the Slitherbeast slowly started to wobble meaning Eda's sleep spell was working.

Once Minato finished, the beast fell to the ground and was completely under the spell.
"Whoa what was that?" Eda asks.
"Just a little lullaby my mom used to sing to me when I was little." Minato smiles.
Needless to say the girls were both surprised and interested by this.
"Eda, did you see? We all learned new spells?" Luz smiles.
"Yep, nice work kiddo." Eda smiles.
"Looks like we're all going to the advanced class together." Minato smiles.
"Hexside here we come!" Lily declares.
"Oh yeah!" Dez cheers snapping his fingers and a CONGRATULATIONS banner appeared above them.
"Hey uh." Amity walks up to Minato. "I just wanna say…thanks for saving me earlier."
"It's what friends do. Wait would you consider us friends?" Minato asks.
"Hmm you're definitely in the right direction." Amity smiles making Eda sneeze.
"Alright, your adorable banter is literally making me sick. Let's go home already." Eda said.
"On it teach." Luz drew a glyph around them.
"Uh Luz what are you doing?" Lily asks confused.
"Getting us home." Luz slams down on it and a large pillar of ice launched them all into the air.
While Luz, Minato, Eda and Dez cheered Lily and Katara screamed in fear as went home.
"I think we can go the normal way." Emira suggests.
At the Owl House, King was standing in front of Hooty and Hachi as stuffing covered the living room.
"Private Hooty, Private Hachi, today when the felt flew you showed grit and determination that were instrumental in securing our victory. May I just say, it has been an honor, to be your commander." King said as Hachi barks.
"Sir, the honor is all mine." Hooty said.
Walking over King hugs them both.
"Privates, our hearts have been touched by fire, and—" Before King could finish the door opens revealing everyone.
"What the heck happened here?" Eda asks noticing Hachi. "And who the heck is this?"
"Um, excuse me? We're having a moment here!" King glares.
"Hachi? What are you doing here?" Minato asks as Hachi broke from King's hug and ran to him.
"You know him?" Eda asks.
"Yeah he's a Palisman of Bat Queen. She asked Minato to hang out with him from time to time." Luz said.
"He's kinda cute." Lily smiles watching Minato pick Hachi up.
"So what happened here?" Minato asks.
"You'll never understand what we've been through together! Never! Never!" Hooty declares.
"Ugh nevermind moment ruined." King said walking away.
"I will be haunted by my actions forever. Hoot hoot." Hooty declares.
"Well I'm going to bed." Eda said.
"Same." Everyone agreed.
As Luz was getting ready for bed, she heard a knock at the door.
"Come in." Luz said as the door opened revealing Minato. "Minato?"
"Hey I wanted to say you really impressed me back there. Learning that new spell." Minato said.
"Compared to Katara making her own water, Lily's spirit beasts and your Elemental Abominations I feel my ice was kinda small in comparison." Luz said getting into bed.
"Are you kidding? I'm jealous." Minato said surprising her.
"You? But I've been jealous of you. You know so much." Luz said as Minato sat next to her.
"Yeah but you and Lily are learning in record time. It would take me weeks or even months to learn new move, but you two have learned some in a few weeks. You make learning magic look easy." Minato admits.
"Well we also have you and Eda to help us." Turning to the door they saw Tiger Lily in her pajamas. "So I guess the 3 of us will be in the advanced classes together."
"4. Don't forget Katara." Luz smiles causing them to laugh.
"I'm glad we're all going together." Minato smiles.
"Hey Minato. Before you go to bed can you do me one favor?" Luz asks.
"What?" Minato asks.
"Can you…sing me that lullaby your did? I really liked how it sounded." Luz asks.
"Ooh I'd like to hear it one more time." Lily smiles.
"Well okay, but if I do it you two have to go to bed." Minato smirks.
On cue, Luz adjusts herself to get comfy while Lily leaned against the door.
"I'm giving you two the translated version." Minato said before taking a deep breath.

Looking up through her window, Luz saw the stars reflecting in and the light shines off Minato's eyes. Lily on the other hand felt herself completely relaxed as she was sucked in by each word.
No matter what, don't be afraid
Just keep going forward,
Because I'll be by your side
Sighing both girls smiled.
"Night girls." Mianto smiles going to his room.
"Night Minato, night Luz." Lily said following after.
"Night." Luz sighs going to bed as a blush appeared on her face.
"Of all the things that have happened today…that was the most magical." Luz smiles.
