The Broken Boosted Gear
By Try Another Time
Feathers fell from the sky as a single enemy severely damaged their wings. They were at least 50 Valkyries, trained warriors who had been tasked with protecting Asgard by their god and king, Odin. Yet not a single one expected to find themselves in such a one-sided situation.
"Keep the formation! We shall not fall against this enemy." Said the Valkyrie leader as she held her sword up.
Her hands were slightly shaking like those of her fellow Valkyries as she kept her eyes on the masked enemy.
Her black wings were like those of a bat, yet each possessed several red eyes and was far more extensive than their own "owl" shaped wings.
Demonic short scythes held in each hand. Both were covered in the blood and feathers of some of their allies that now lay struggling on the floor. Their hands reached out to the sky, hoping to join the fight, but they couldn't anymore.
"Be careful."
"Don't let her get too close."
"She's a ruthless devil!"
The words of her allies made them even more afraid to even stand up to this masked devil.
"Come on. Step up or give up. I won't take your lives, but as you can see, I won't hold back either. Surrender, and you'll have an easier time." The masked enemy said.
The Valkyries stood their ground, although none felt confident about facing such an enemy one-on-one. So still holding into their pride as Valkyries, they rushed forward as a team, hoping to overwhelm their unknown enemy.
Their spears, sword, and axes came from every possible direction, but the masked enemy didn't back down.
Grayfia POV. *Warcry (Instrumental)-Hiroyuki Sawano.*
Her mind and body were in complete unison as she saw the incoming attacks without any fear for her safety.
"Left, Right, Up, Twist 30 degrees to the left, and then fire." Her body moved with calculated precision as she evaded each weapon and got in between the Valkyries without being reached by a single weapon. It was like seeing a ballerina carefully following the hardest choreographies and sticking the landing despite facing danger from every direction.
Once in the middle of the group, the eyes in her wings blinked several times before charging up and firing several laser-like attacks, which quickly pierced the armor and defenses of each of her enemies.
Several Valkeries fell to the floor in pain as they held their arms or injured areas with tears in their eyes.
"12 down." Grayfia lifts up his two scythes to block the incoming attacks from two Valkeryes at each side. "Ax on my left and sword on my right."
"Why won't you die?" The ax-wielding Valkyrie asked as she tried her best to break the stance of Grayfia.
"Just what are you?" The sword-wielding Valkyrie asks as she tries the same.
"Just a wife, maid, and mother doing her job," Grayfia replies before pushing back and attacking both Valkyrie with a flurry of slashes and kicks.
"Shoot her down!" The remaining Valkyries said as they charged their magic projectiles.
Grayfia, instead of evading the attacks, grabs and uses the body of one of her attackers as a shield to block the attacking Valkyries and quickly stop their assault.
"See? I told you, give up. This a fight you can't win." Grayfia said as she released the injured Valkyrie. "Thanks for the help, sweetheart."
The remaining Valkyries watch in fear as the bloody Valkyrie falls to the floor alongside the rest.
Grayfia points her scythes at her enemies and begins to laugh maniacally. "If you can't accept an easy defeat, then I shall inflict so much pain in your bodies that none of you can lift those weapons again."
Her voice was cold, befitting her title as the Ice Queen. They would have escaped long ago if they had seen her face at that moment, for it showed no mercy, fear, or doubt in her every action—just a cold unemotional stare.
Her actions have the intended result as the forces of Asgard start to doubt their ability to face such a challenge.
None had a chance to escape as Grayfia went on the hunt for each Valkyrie that remained conscious. Their screams and tears joined the other Asgardians that fell victim to Ddraig's team.
Meanwhile, Serafall's POV.
The grunts and screams of her adversaries reached her ears as she moved through the battlefield. The floor beneath her had turned to solid ice, and to traverse such an area, she was practically skating as she continued to shoot spell after spell.
"Stop moving!."
"You damn whore!"
Asgardians continued to throw insults non-stop at her, but Serafall maintained a cold and voiceless demeanor as she took each down with her spells and attack.
"Ignis Salamandrae." Several fire salamanders were summoned before they rushed in and swallowed several Asgardians moments before exploding.
Their bodies fell on the floor, barely alive as Serafall nerfed the spell.
Serafall follows by putting her hands together and creating two magic circles. "Furens Daemoniun Lucendi." As she separated her hands' purple electric energy accumulated quickly before a flurry of lightning strikes impacted a broad group of enemy forces.
"She uses lighting!?"
"This has to be a cruel joke!"
"Is she a magician?"
Many were the questions of those trying to stop her, but one thing started to pop up in their minds.
"Can she even fight without spells?"
Asgardians started to rush in one by one and tried to prevent Serafall from getting away, closing her in from all directions. At least 100 Asgardians created a circle around her to prevent her escape. They all ignored that she had wings or the reality that they weren't facing your average devil.
Flashback: 498 years ago, Underworld.
The Sitri family and its territory have always been a sought-after gem by many devils. One of the remaining original clans that, instead of losing its strength since the war, the clan had grown stronger with each new contract with humans.
Each new alliance that was forged with other clans.
Each new resource they had gotten their hands on.
Each new victory on the battlefield.
All that glory and power was now within reach for any male devil who could achieve one thing.
Marrying the daughter of the Sitri clan, it's only heiress Serafall Sitri. For devils, especially those in royal families, a son or daughter was a blessing that needed to be nurtured and protected as the new generation would likely come from them. Boys and girls were usually raised to get them ready to take over while also marrying at an early age.
Such was the fate of a young girl barely twelve years.
Inside her room within the Sitri residence lay a young Serafall Sitri. Her twin tails befitted her young age, yet her face and attire were far from childish. Serafall wore the expression of a seasoned leader, and her attire matched such a face.
A long black trenchcoat hides a black battlesuit suit which had seen its fair number of battles.
Her eyes were pink, yet their shade was darker as if no joy existed in her life. Two small horns were slowly growing on her head as her power grew and her dreams of being free of her fate much desperate.
In the hands of Serafall, a small doll that resembles herself yet dressed in a cute outfit served as a reminder of the childhood she wished to have but couldn't achieve due to the many elements in her life.
"Why?" Serafall asked herself as she caressed the smile on the doll.
"Why?" Her fingers touch the pink dress of the doll, yearning for such attire in her life.
"Why?" She wished to be cute, like the doll. Smiling like the doll in her hands did. Feeling alive like others did.
Be able to have a normal life like the humans she had met. Life wasn't perfect in the human world, but she wanted many of the things they did. Going to a school, having the ability to choose a career. Maybe even having a boyfriend like any human girl did.
So it was the dreams of such a young girl like Serafall, but her reality was far from supporting when it came to such ideals.
"Lady Serafall?" A maid called out to her.
The young girl eye's turned to her. "Yes?"
The maid slightly shook after meeting her eyes. "A new challenger has arrived. He calls himself Donovan Zepar. He has expressed the desire to marry you." The maid explains.
"... Another one. Did he come by himself?" Serafall asks as she puts the doll in her bed.
"No, my lady. His so-called friends have surrounded the residence. Your parents have taken our forces and are watching their every move. We fear that it might come down to a confrontation between both sides." The maid says.
"... Have you informed the lords about this?" Serafall says as she approaches her window.
"They have replied with the same comment. "Serafall is not a child anymore in our eyes. She can get married, but we must compromise if nobody suits her taste. Fight to protect your so-called freedom. Let's see how long it lasts." Rizevim-sama seemed happy to know that there's still drive within you and your suitors to continue fighting." The maid said.
"..." Serafall says nothing as she clenches her fists in anger. "To them, this is all a joke. Our lives are not more than toys. If we die or kill ourselves amongst each other, it will all still be a game. They don't care about the future of our society or our people."
"We know, my lady. Even your parents know it, but what can we do?" The maid asks.
"I… Not sure yet, but I know we're not the only ones that dislike all of this. Sirzechs dislikes his so-called fiancee. He doesn't like her or her nasty attitude. The same has happened with Ajuka and the many candidates they keep sending him. None care for or get to know us; they only see the power and glory they gain by joining our families. I don't want that for me; I don't want the person next to me to be a greedy bastard that only sees the Sitri fortune. I want him to see not my family, cherish me, and make me feel like a human hero in their stories makes its significant other feel. I want a real romance. I want all of it." Serafall says with a voice befitting someone that dreams for the nearly impossible.
The maid could only teared up as she saw Serafall's saddened face. "My lady, if only your dream could become a reality."
A few moments afterward.
Donovan was an orange-haired male that looked to be in his 30s while actually being much older. The male was wearing the shiniest of armor money could buy and holding an impressive golden sword.
The male was smiling from ear to ear as Serafall came out of the residence.
"My Lilith, she has such a strong presence. I can't wait to make her my wife. Our child could be the strongest of devils, and with her family's power, I could easily crush my nephew and take over the Zepar clan." Donovan already imagined the future once Serafall was his.
Serafall stops next to both of her parents and their troops. Troops surrounded their whole residence. One could even see demonic beasts that had been slaved to do their bidding like many clans did for ages.
"Mr. Zepar, to what we owe the pleasure of your visit?" Serafall asks in a cold tone.
"Oh, my cute soon-to-be wife, you already know that. Many others have tried their best to take you, but none have been like me. You're unmatched, like Grayfia Lucifuge. Be a dear and accept me as your husband. Once we're married, we'll become unstable. I'll lead the Sitri clan to the top. Our child will be like no other. So give in and avoid making me angry." Donovan says.
"So this is what you do when you're hungry for power? You come into someone's home, threaten her family and allies, and you try to force her to marry you? I would also mention my age, but you and most of our faction don't care. I tell you this only once, give up and go home or face the consequences. I don't accept you as a husband. Be gone." Serafall says as she holds the collar around her neck.
Donovan shakes his head in disapproval. "I will make you submit to me! Attack!"
His forces charged forward, intending to conquer the Sitri clan.
"And I'll make you taste my foot," Serafall says before she summons the sacred beast that had been alongside them for generations.
The sky opens as a meteorite descends to offer death and desolation to the enemies of the Sitri.
Several minutes after.
The land now lay covered in the blood and guts of Donovan's forces while the devil himself lay on the floor, broken and close to death's door. None of his allies survived the fight, and the Sitri suffered minimal losses.
Standing on top of his broken body was Serafall, holding his precious sword over his neck. The girl had shown a brutality that few devils had matched, and although he was much older than her, she had defeated him with all she had.
Donovan could only smirk as he saw the injuries he had caused to her. "I was close to achieving it. I tarnished that cute face of yours. How does your blood taste inside your mouth? You were almost mine."
The girl looks unamused as she spits on his face. "How does your sword taste inside yours?" Serafall says as she plunges the golden sword deep into the mouth of Donovan.
The male tried to scream, but Serafall offered no mercy to him as she destroyed his head with the same golden sword.
"I will never stop or accept defeat on a battlefield. I'll achieve my freedom and that of my clan! I will take their heads until none remain!" Serafall screams to the sky as her horns grow in size.
Her parents and allies kneel around her, recognizing the might of the heiress of Sitri.
The Pink General of War; she who would one day rise to become Serafall Leviathan.
Like her, many others would slowly come around to come together to overthrow the current government and its leaders.
Back to the present.
Serafall horns grew once more as she looked around her. Her hair also grows, and her wings spread to their full length before their black color brightens to a vivid pink. Slowly but surely, she was letting more of her true powers come to the surface as she needed everything she had to accomplish the mission and return alive. "If this is your strategy to defeat me, you all have made your biggest mistake."
An aura of demonic bloodlust expands around the area, which sets every Asgardian within a 2-mile radius on high alert as they fear for their lives.
Before the Asgardians can breathe, Serafall disappears from their sight before she reapers behind some Asgardians.
The group tries to turn around and face her, but she attacks before that happens.
Serafall knocks everyone out before she grabs one of them by the leg. While holding this unconscious body, she decides to use it as a weapon. "Now, you shall all wish for death." Her voice was cold and deep.
Blood and teeth started to taint the ground as Serafall went to town with the Asgardian forces. Like an Oni wielding their famous bat, Serafall began to destroy the Asgardian's forces by hitting them with unparalleled strength.
Their bodies went flying as she swung the bodies of their allies like baseball bats. Their limbs twisted in weird directions. Their bones were broken, yet none of them died, but many hope for death as they struggle to escape.
"Meet truth defeat!" Serafall's voice scared them to death as her old self returned to take care of the job.
None had the power to stop her, and none of them would ever forget this night in which they met complete defeat at her hands.
Gabriel's POV.
While her allies fought their own battles, Gabriel fought her own against Vidar with the help of her golem.
The Great Vidar was closer to his older brother Thor than his father, Odin, in terms of fighting style. His great double axes were massive, and each swing held the strength to split a large skyscraper in half. His attacks were endless and grew wilder as each moment went by, pushing Gabriel to be faster and smarter with each movement she took.
Vidar left many openings as he spun and slammed his great axes into the ground, which Gabriel used to attack him, yet the god seemed not to care for the damage he received as she punched and kicked the parts of his body that could stop him from fighting.
The fight continued as Gabriel wielded two chakrams and used them to defend against the sharp axes. Each exchange caused sparks to fly in every direction as the dance between opposites sides continued.
At one moment, Gabriel locks both weapons of Vidar into the floor. The god tries to get them out, but the seraph prevents it. "Now!"
The golem lifted his giant right arm once more before he connected a powerful punch on Vidar's right shoulder. The cracking sound of bones was heard. The god was forced to back away as he held his broken shoulder.
"That one hurt for real," Vidar said as he grinned. "But why did you take down my shoulder instead of going for vitals? Aren't you my enemy? Aren't you here to destroy Asgard?"
Gabriel rushed forward as she deemed that he was still a menace to the mission. The golem follows right behind her. "I have a mission that doesn't include killing you but won't let you escape."
Vidar called one of his axes back to him and used his left arm to continue to fight.
Chakrams and Axe clash once more as the fight continues.
"Then what mission is that? Why is the Welsh Dragon here? Why do you attack our home? We didn't attack the alliance!" Vidar pushes back.
"I don't need to answer such questions." Gabriel did the same.
The intensity of the fight increased as each side exchanged blows. The golem blocked any blows that Gabriel wasn't able to evade while Gabriel continued to go after Vidar's weak points.
"Answer my questions, child of the Bible god!" Vidar anger increased as he felt pushed into a corner. An amber halo appeared on his back as his powers flared up.
This allows the god to push back against Gabriel, but the seraph wouldn't go down either.
Her halo flared up as well as her powers increased. "I won't be defeated in this place." Her intention is transmitted to the golem, which quickly reacts to her state.
"Sacred Booster Mode Engage." Several circuits around the golem activate as its chest cavity opens up. Several armor pieces fly from inside the golem and attach themselves to Gabriel.
Vidar watches as Gabriel obtains four extra arms and extra protection. Behind the mask, he notices two golden eyes shining with radiant holy energy that he can only gulp as he feels he's not facing any average angel.
His mind tried to remember who this angel could be, but sadly, it was too late as his body was sent flying by a series of punches from Gabriel and her golem.
As his body flew, his eyes saw the battlefield below with fear as his forces struggled to face their enemies.
Be it the giant behemoth that continued to spin while creating strong winds that swept the battlefield while annihilating anyone stupid enough to stay in its path of destruction, the masked horned lady who continuously attacked his allies with an array of knives and blades that she kept creating from her horns while also breaking their weapons and armor with an unknown purple power, or the last masked female who had a collar around her neck.
This last one was rushing from one target to the next with a sinister laugh as she kept slashing the Asgardian forces with her claws and biting them like a rabid beast.
Let's not even mention what was happening to those facing the other two members of such a team.
Seeing all this, Vidar couldn't help but feel complete fear of the team Ddraig had assembled to come to Asgard.
"You're not getting away!"
Vidar eyes turn back to his adversary and her shining white wings as she appears next to him.
"Damn, all of you heretics!" Vidar said as his body was assaulted and sent back to the surface with incredible strength.
A large crater was formed after the impact as a flurry of holy chakrams detonated shortly after on his location.
At that exact moment, on the train. Michael POV.
"Michael, did you feel that?" Uriel asks his brother.
The blonde seraph nods as he looks outside from his window. "Gabriel is giving her all over there. None of us should worry about her. She's not a child; fighting her one-on-one is playing with fire."
"I feel sorry for whoever was unlucky enough to think they could face her alone. Gabriel's a menace when she gets serious. I think she's become even more threatening since she started training Asia." Uriel said.
The other angels could only agree as they thought about the current Gabriel.
"We're all changing. It is not only her, my siblings. We all continue to grow and change in ways we don't notice at first." Michael said.
Uriel saw the face of his brother and noticed a strange aura. "That smile and that shine are different from before. More alive, more like that of a human….. It has to be my imagination."
How wrong was his assumption, as Michael had indeed changed in ways he never expected.
Back on the battlefield, behind the ice barriers. General POV.
Spells rained on Ddraig as Odin showed precisely why he was feared in Asgard.
Beams of energy split the land into pieces, large vines that grew from the ground and reached out to seal Ddraig's movements, gravitational spheres that sucked everything in, and even gigantic blades of water, everything in the book of magic, spells, and reality-altering shenanigans was used by Odin against Ddraig.
In the past, such an array of spells and powers would have been overwhelming for the Welsh Dragon, but now he was no longer that same young dragon that once came to Asgard to steal from Odin.
He was much more now.
His crimson flames spread out and burned every vine that came into contact with them.
The temperature rose exponentially, leading to the water evaporating before reaching him. The ice walls barely stood up as they melted and remade themselves, trying to keep up with Ddraig's domain of flames.
The gravitational spears didn't affect him anymore as they did in the past, as he was beyond such laws, and his spear quickly destroyed them.
His speed outmatched the energy beams as his reflexes were far sharper; The dragon flew around, evading each one and closing the distance between Odin and himself.
Once close enough, Ddraig went on the offensive against Odin, using his spear to attack the god.
"Beast, you dare to face me with a spear?"
"Show me your best, you one-eye piece of shit."
The insults got the intended result as Odin also went on the offensive.
Both spears clash against each other as their wielders move around the battlefield as they push each other back.
The ground split as the conflict increased in severity, and the ice walls began to crack as they couldn't endure the immense power clash.
Odin had unmatched mastery of his spear, which had been at his side for centuries to no end, yet he was being matched as an unknown force was nullifying the charm that the dwarves had placed on his spear.
Gungnir was known to succeed in reaching its target, never to miss an attack, yet here it was being counted each time by Ddraig and his spear.
As Odin's eye analyzed his situation, a realization came to his mind. "Reality shifting? How he never had such a power!"
Odin followed his movements and slowly saw precisely what was happening. Each attack he made was gradually altered as an invisible force affected his attacks' trajectory.
If his spear was about to reach Ddraig's chest, space got wrapped as the trajectory was redirected to meet the spear that Ddraig was holding, which blocked any damage the dragon could receive.
"You damn cheater!" Odin shouted before he was hit across the face and sent packing into the ground.
"You calling me a cheater? We both know you're only winning so many fights because Gungnir finished your adversaries before they could face you. You're strong, but your strength lies in numbers and spells that offer you an advantage. Long-range battles are your strength, and an army that can cover your blind spots, weaknesses, and flaws are what keep you alive. Your brothers Vili and Ve aren't here to aid you now, and Thor is not coming either. Just you and me. Me and my army." Ddraig says as he summons the flamming army of the husks dwelling inside him.
"Say hi to them. This is what that item I took from you allowed me to do." Ddraig says as he orders his troops to attack the god.
Odin is easily pushed back as the numbers overwhelm him.
Ddraig takes this moment to catch his breath as his body starts to fall behind in obeying his orders. Odin was indeed right about him cheating, as Ouros made up for his nerfed reaction time when facing Odin in close combat.
His eyes tracked Odin's movements and saw many openings, but he couldn't use them as his movements weren't as fast as he wanted. He felt the weight of his weakened soul as his body wasn't obeying nor matching his will. It was like trying to wield a high-caliber revolver while having no strength to endure the recoil of each shot.
"You have been nerfed. I can see that. Heracles is not even near your previous level, yet you fell behind. You need to try harder, my student. But, for the sake of Issei and yourself, you can't accept defeat. You need to try harder and force that body of yours to listen to you. Your powers will be the same but don't fear them. You need everything to achieve victory, even if it means risking your soul. Don't let go of the bull's horns until it submits to your will. Odin won't hold back; I'm sure of that." Shiva's voice reminded him that this was an uphill battle, and he needed to be ready for what would come.
As his eyes followed Odin on the ground as he clashed against his army, he saw the classic shining halo the gods possessed appearing on his back.
"Is going to get serious from now on." The dragon said to himself.
Even if he had insulted Odin, he was not a weakling. His suit was leading armies and long-range battles, but when everything else failed, the true potential of the one-eye bastard came to the surface.
"Here we go, Ouros!" Ddraig said as he joined his army against Odin. "Keep up, Ddraig. Keep drawing his attention away from the capital until the mission is over."
So the fight continues between the Welsh Dragon and Odin.
Back in the capital. Tiamat's POV.
The dragoness stopped in her tracks as she felt a sharp painful sensation on her chest. The feeling that her beloved was at risk. As she held her chest, she could only think about him. "Dear. Please be careful."
"Tiamat, is something happening?" Kuroka asked as she saw their leader stopping.
Tiamat shook her doubts and refocused her attention on the mission. "Sorry. I got distracted for a second. Let's keep moving forward."
The other team members nod at her words before they continue to move forward through the vast halls of the immense residence of the Norse Gods.
If one human castle, in many cases, was massive, the Norse castle was a maze in itself as it was close to at least nine castles that came together to form one.
But thankfully for them, they had a guide to help them traverse such a massive and confusing complex. Alongside Yukime's ability, they evaded several guards that patrolled the halls and thus had no problems infiltrating the complex.
Kuroka's sound cancellation proved incredibly helpful as they could hide even the sound of their steps as they ran around.
As the team continued forward, they came to a large circular hall that led to many different paths.
"Where do we go from here?" Tannin asked Rossweisse.
"Here is the place where we take different paths. You'll reach Thor's section of the residence through that eastern path leading directly to the underground cells. It should be almost empty as most guards and security will be in our path to the north, which leads to Odin's section. But be careful no matter what, and avoid being seen." Rossweisse said before she turned to Asia. "The rest is up to you, young Asia. Lead them to Thor-sama and the rest. My cousin will recognize all of you as soon as she sees you."
Asia nodded as she stepped away with her side of the team.
Once Yukime wasn't near them, their bodies became visible, and the most challenging part of the mission began.
"Here we go," Kuroka said as she detected the scent of guards in the path they needed to take.
"We can't fail this mission. Failure is not acceptable." Tiamat said as she took a step forward.
*The Circle- Naoki & Arc System Works*
"Wait for us, Ymir-sama. We're almost there." Rossweisse closed her eyes as she tried to communicate with the primordial god imprisoned within Odin's secret lab.
"Help… me…. is … too... Painful. Help me, please, child." His internal voice was weak yet painful to hear as he had endured an unimaginable amount of pain at the hands of Odin for quite a long time.
It was basically a miracle that Ymir was barely sane at that point, sane enough to ask for help from those that now possess pieces of his body.
A single tear escaped Rossweisse's eye as she felt the pain of Ymir. "I'm coming." Mini Gaia patted her head as she noticed the tear.
"Let us go." Mini Gaia said.
Rossweisse then sprints alongside her team with a clear goal in front of them.
Ymir's imprisonment was close to being over.
But his imprisonment wouldn't be the only thing happening that night as things started to come into motion.
Author's notes:
Asgardians: She can only use spells.
Serafall releases 50% of her powers: I will take one of you fuckers and use it as a baseball bat to hit everyone else.
Asgardians: *Surprise Pikachu face*
Anyways, I'm happy to take this chapter to show more of what other characters can do while fighting. In terms of power, I say that Gabriel and Serafall are matched, with Grayfia falling behind by just half a point. So many devils do not fear you if you cannot back it up with your power. Let me know what you think about the arc up to this point.
