Chapter 27: Separate Tides
Hey everyone I'm back with a new chapter and just in time for Thanksgiving. Whoo! Time to kick off Season 2 and I'm kicking it off with over 300 followers! Thanks for all the support guys! We find ourselves in a dark cave, as Luz was holding a light glyph lighting the way gripping Owlbert's staff tightly.
Walking next to her, we see Minato with a new shorter haircut. Unlike his previous style this one was now short and smooth running down his head just stopping at his forehead. His jacket was now short sleeve and black and purple thanks to the Abomination stains, his goggles dangled from his neck just over his scarf and the gripped the Monado tightly.
Both were on high alert when they heard a burst of evil laughter.
Gasping both saw a large shadow looking down at them.
"Foolish children. Leave this place or meet your demise." A dark voice said.
"Not happening Garlog." Minato said.
"Don't underestimate us. For I am the Good Witch Luz, hunter of Monsters!" Luz declares.
"And I am the Wild Wind Warlock Minato, Enemy of Belos!" Minato declares.
"Now eat this sucka!" Both yelled drawing their weapons about to attack.
Charging in both stopped in their tracks to see the monster was just a shadow of a small demon in front of a lantern that wasn't even King's size.
"You're Garlog?" Minato asks picking it up.
Taking out a wanted poster, Luz saw the picture depicted him as much larger and muscular.
"This is pathetic." Luz deadpans.
"And embarrassing." Minato deadpans.
"Small I may be, but you will soon know fear when I lay waste to all that you—" Before Garlog could even finish King bit down on it swallowing it whole.
"No! Bad King!" Minato said.
"Drop it! Drop it now!" Luz orders.
Whimpering King ran off like a dog that stole your toy.
"I said drop it now!" Luz yells.
"Get back here with our bounty!" Minato yells as they ran after him.
Back at the Owl House, we see Garlog in a bottle while Minato and Luz had their phones set up.
"Hola mama." Luz waves.
"Ohayou Gozaimasu Oka-san." Minato waves.
"You both haven't heard from us in a week and a half since I destroyed the portal home." Luz admits.
"Yeah still mad at you for that by the way." Minato adds.
"How many times do I have to say I'm sorry? I had no choice I couldn't let Belos use it so blowing it up was the only option." Luz said before sighing. "My mom isn't going to understand any of this. Let's move on. That wasn't the only crazy thing to happen."
"Yeah as it turns out my dad is alive and for the last 6 years, he's been a prisoner of Belos. I don't know how I'm gonna get him back home but I'll figure it out." Minato said. "Oh and uh as you can see I ended up cutting my hair. You're not gonna believe how though."
"He used a sword to give himself a haircut! Just like me." Luz laughs before wrapping an arm around his shoulder. "I swear this guy was meant to be my best friend."
"Yeah only my clean-up wasn't as messy as yours." Minato chuckles.
"This world is filled with inexplicable magical wonders, like this portal key." Luz said taking out the key. We don't know if it contains magic, but we're gonna study all we can, and find a way back. And look."
Bending down Minato pulls up King.
"At least we have friends to help us out." Minato smiles.
"I'm never letting go! You two are not going back to the human realm!" King declares making them laugh nervously.
"He doesn't mean that." Luz said.
"Yes I do!" King said as they grabbed their phones.
Soon the screen changes to show them recording Eda.
"This is Eda the Owl Lady, the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles." Luz said as Eda tried to use her magic to lift a container of Apple Blood over a mug until it exploded. "Or at least she was until her curse overpowered her and took all her magic."
Looking around, Minato sees Tiger Lily making some more arrows.
"This is Tiger Lily and I know what you're thinking that name sounds familiar. She came to life from a book mixed with Boiling Isles magic. We're not sure how to send her home just yet, but she's proven to be a great help and a great friend." Minato said.
Loading an arrow into her bow, Tiger Lily fires it hitting a dart board bullseye on the wall.
Moving towards the window, Luz found Lilith putting away her old robes revealing she was now wearing a dark robe bottom with a white long-sleeve shirt on top.
"Eda was cursed by her own sister, Lilith. And she spent her entire life looking for a way to undo it. It's still hard for everyone to trust each other, but maybe we can all become friends with time." Luz narrates.
As Lilith looks out the window, Hooty suddenly appeared in front of her.
"Hello!"
Screaming Lilith slams the window in his face.
"Needless to say family trouble is a thing in this house." Minato said showing Blanca sharpening her sword. "This is Blanca. When we first met her she was an assassin, but now she's the official Owl House bodyguard. Ready to give her life for any of us. And as it turns out the family that abandoned her joined up with Emperor Belos and her brother Lionel is his Enforcer. Needless to say, she plans to be ready for round 2." Minato said deciding not to point out he was her target.
Changing views we see Eda outside working on something.
"Even though Eda gets frustrated, she's found new ways to make up for her lost powers." Luz said as Eda revales a spear with a bag attached to it.
"Behold! I call it the Stab Catcher!" Eda declares.
"Since we don't have the portal anymore we don't have any human garbage to sell and sadly that means our Yugioh Card business is almost done for. We barely have any cards left to sell." Minato said.
"Hey King did you know that apple is a hat?" Eda calls out.
"Really?" Looking over they see King standing in front of a target and puts the apple on his head.
"NO! NO! NO!" Panicking Minato and Luz grab King and pull him to safety before the Stab-Catcher hit where King's head was.
"This week Blanca convinced us to Bounty Hunters. Next week we can be anything." Luz said. "So, Mom, please don't be scared. I'm growing more and more every day, and I'm gonna do my best to become a full-fledged witch and get home to you safe and sound. Te quiero, Mama. Te lo prometo, regresaré a casa pronto."
"And uh mom I'll be back soon. And tell grandma and grandpa I'm bringing dad back with me. Watashi wa sugu ni modotte kimasu. Watashi wa min'na o aishiteimasu." Minato said as they both hung up.
Both tried to send the messages out but since they didn't have the portal they didn't get a signal.
"Why do we keep trying Luz?" Minato asks.
"Because we have a lot to share. Don't you want to tell your mom about all this?" Luz asks.
"Mmm what's the point? She hates magic." Minato said.
"Hey guys!" Looking out the window they saw Blanca, Tiger Lily loading a wagon with Eda and Lilith at the reins.
"We're going into town! Come on!" Eda calls out.
"Eda, do you own anything that isn't covered in feathers?" Lilith asks patting feathers off her clothes.
"I had to deal with a curse for 30 years, so I think you can handle a few feathers." Eda said.
"We'll keep watch over things here until you guys get back." Tiger Lily said as she and Blanca had their weapons ready.
"We're counting on you." Luz said as they headed off into town.
In Bonesborough, we see Minato looking at the phone Miguel left him to reveal a recording.
On it we see a worn-out and injured Miguel setting things up.
"Uh hey there. It's me, Miguel. But I guess you probably knew that. But I guess whoever finds this doesn't know is I'm alive. Yeah when I came to the Boiling Isles, Belos captured me in hopes of stealing my portal key. Guess the guy doesn't know about a little thing called cellphones when they threw me behind bars. Ha." Miguel chuckles softly. "Anyway turns out a little lightning magic can keep my phone going for a few days. I don't know what's going to happen, but all I do know is that the key is safe. I just hope Eda doesn't do anything crazy with it."
"Oh dad you have no idea." Minato mutters closing the phone and sighing.
He had finally found his dad. His big dream was finally accomplished. The only problem was now he couldn't bring him home.
Across from him, Eda and Luz dumped their bounties at the booth to collect their money.
"Your payment." The shopkeeper said taking out a coin.
"A single snail? Are you kidding me?" Eda glares.
"Sorry I wasn't finished." He said breaking it in half.
"You can't do this to me. Do you know who I am?" Eda points.
"Yeah, you're Eda the Owl Lady. What are you gonna do? We all know you're powerless now." He mocks.
Growling Eda made a magic circle to attack him but nothing happened.
"Ooh this is awkward." Some people said.
"I don't need your pity! I was the most wanted criminal for years. You should fear me." Eda said taking out her wanted poster but a garbage demon instantly took it out of her hand and threw it away.
"Hey. What's going on here?" Minato asks walking over and instantly the Shopkeeper panicked.
"Oh no it's him!" Grabbing the gate, the shopkeeper slammed it shut.
"Hey what about our money?" Eda snaps.
"Hey look it's him."
"The hybrid that attacked Belos."
"I heard they tied."
"We better get out of here before he kills us."
As the demons fled at the sight of him, Minato couldn't help but feel a little insecure.
"Too bad Edalyn." Lilith said as she and King walked over. "At least my image still commands respect and fear." She said posing next to her recruitment poster.
Seconds later, the poster was torched.
"Ha! You're a traitor." King laughs.
"What's going on? This is anarchy. Who told you to do this?" Lilith asks when three posters flew out revealing the Golden Guard was now the face of the Emperor's Coven.
"That guy." Minato narrows his eyes remembering his fight with him.
"The Golden Guard? Did you know him in the Coven, Lilith?" Luz asks grabbing a poster.
"Unfortunately, I did. He always got special treatment because he was the genius teen prodigy. But he's really just a brat. If he's in charge, vomit." Grabbing the poster, Lilith crumbled it up and tried to throw it away but the poster flew back and hit her in the face.
Looking at the cart, Minato noticed a set of new Wanted Posters in it.
Grabbing one his eyes widen.
Using his lightning magic, Minato destroyed the cart.
"Hey what's the big idea you little—" As Minato turns to him the demon steps back in fear. "Uh you know what never mind I've been eager to get a new cart anyways."
"Whoa Minato what's going on?" Luz asks.
Holding up the paper, Luz's eyes widen seeing the Wanted Poster…was his!
On the poster, we see Minato with a bloody sinister look on his face, the Monado in his hand and Abomination Obelisk behind him.
"I don't believe this." Eda said grabbing it. "How is this possible?"
"I know it's bad. Now I'm a criminal." Minato said.
"Not that." Eda said flipping it to show the price. "How are you worth almost my bounty on your first poster? It took me years to get that high."
"Eda!" Luz and Minato snapped.
"Look calm down. These things aren't as bad as you think. I've had one longer than you two have been alive." Eda said.
"Although I do have to admit they really went all out on your design Minato." King said checking it out.
"Are you kidding I look so—" Minato starts.
"Scary." King said.
"Bloodthristy." Eda suggests when Lilith said something muffled because her face was still covered by the poster.
"Cool." Luz sighs
"All of those." Minato pauses before looking at Luz. "Wait what you say?"
"Uh cruel. I said cruel." Luz said hiding her blush.
Noticing the sad looks on Minato and Eda, Luz tries to come up with an idea.
"Hey, I know! What we need is a confidence boost. Why don't we take on the biggest bounty we can find? It'll be great." Luz took Minato's hand and led him.
"Luz I don't know." Minato said.
"Hey, turn that frown upside down. You've had a bounty set by your mean old Soulwing Grandpa for a while now and you didn't let it bring you down before why should one made by Belos be any different?" Luz asks.
"Well I guess you have a point." Minato said.
"Help me pick one out and I'll let you have the first blow." Luz offers.
"Oh alright. I could use a distraction." Minato smiles softly.
"There's that smile. Come on." Taking his hand Luz, led him to a board called Greg's List.
"Hmm. Lost Cerberus, no. Witch cackling lessons? Hmm not today." Luz chuckles.
"Babysitting? No thank you." Minato said.
"Ooh Eda check this out. There's something called a Selkidomus ravaging boats up and down the coast. We'll be on a high-seas adventure." Luz suggests.
"Like in One Piece." Minato grins.
"Hmm... no. We gotta keep a low profile while my powers are weakened and Minato is soon to be the newest addition to this board. And we need fast cash." Eda said before spotting one. "How about this guy?"
"The Abominable Cutie Pie?" Luz read aloud.
"Really Eda?" Minato raised an eyebrow.
"No, no, no. I hear it's very dangerous." Eda said before gasping. "And there it is."
Looking over they saw a cute little pink demon with a lollipop in the crowd.
Running away the Abominable Cutie Pie climbed atop the statue of Emperor Belos.
"You'll never catch me." It said as Luz and Minato scaled the statue in seconds. "You caught me."
Falling down it landed right in Luz's hands.
"This is sadder than Garlog." Minato groans.
"No arguments here." Luz agrees.
As King climbs up they heard Eda down below.
"Things aren't looking great, Lily. This bounty-hunting stuff isn't putting food on the table." Eda said loading up the cart.
Nearby Lilith still had her face covered by the poster and said something.
"Oh I'm sure those kids could handle bigger bounties, but if we wanna eat we don't have the luxury to mess up even once." Eda said as Lilith asks something. "No Apple Blood. I spent the money on supplies for Minato's meals. Gotta make sure those kids have their favorites."
Hearing this Luz and Minato were in shock and disbelief as the two sisters drove off.
"That's rough buddy." The Abominable Cutie Pie said.
Taking his lollipop, King pushes the little demon off the statue making it plummet to the ground.
"Okay this is not gonna fly. I may have messed things up for me, but I'm not gonna let Eda suffer for my mistakes." Minato said.
"Me neither. Eda wouldn't be in this mess if it weren't for us. We can't change the past but I say we prove to Eda we are not burdens." Luz suggests.
"Agreed. You thinking what I'm thinking?" Minato asks.
"Always." Luz nods.
At the docks, the two slam down the wanted poster for the Selkidomus hunt.
"The Selkidomus hunt. We want in." Luz declares as the ship horn blew.
"You squirts think you can handle this?" The captain asks.
"Bring it on." Minato taunts.
Tossing the two of them uniforms, neither of them noticed the Golden Guard watching them from the ship's window.
Meanwhile at Despairo's place, he and Katara were dealing with some adjusting of their own.
In the main room, Katara was carrying some boxes in from the back with Dez struggling to hold them.
"Ugh it was easier when I could just make things appear at will." Despairo groans.
"We have to ration your magic. You still have a while before you get your full powers back." Katara said putting the box down.
"Easier said than done. I used to waste my magic on the craziest things. Now what am I supposed to do?" Dez asks.
"Well you still have your raiper. In the meantime I'll help you figure out a way to use magic until you get your full powers back." Katara offers.
"Thanks Katara." Dez smiles.
"You're welcome Uncle Dez." Katara said before opening the box. "Okay what are we looking for?"
"I've lived here for many years. If we rummage through this stuff, we might find something valuable to help the others." Dez said.
"All those mouths to feed and not much money to do it." Katara frowns feeling bad for them.
Suddenly they heard a knock at the door.
Eyes widening Dez turned to Katara who gestures to hide.
Readying herself Katara slowly approaches the door before swinging it open.
"There you are." To her surprise, Katara saw Naomi waiting for her.
"Naomi?" Katara said surprised.
"Finally. I've been trying to contact you guys all week, but whenever I go to the Owl House it's been empty." Naomi said.
"Wait how did you find out about my home?" Dez asks coming out of hiding.
"The house demon. Had to sit through quite a bit before he gave me the address." Naomi cringed.
"What's wrong? What's happening?" Katara asks concerned.
"When you find Minato tell him to bring everyone to my home. I have something they need to know." Naomi said as Katara nods interested.
Back at the Owl House, we see Lilith looking at the remains of her poster.
"Hey Lily!" Eda said sneaking up next to her with a bandolier of potions around her. "How do I look?"
"Uh…" She said unsure how to respond.
"Getting scammed at the market was such a bummer, but it gave me an idea on how to earn a little more cash. You wanna come? I may not be at full power, but I can still make potions!" Eda said showing them to her.
"I am quite fine. Thank you." Lilith said pushing her back.
"Alright. Have fun wallowing in self-pity and feeling bad for cursing me. Bye!" Eda said leaving.
"I guess I deserve this. There's gotta be a way to make it up to her." Lilith said before noticing a potions book. "Edalyn isn't the only one good at potions. I bet she would love this one."
As she was about to leave she saw Blanca and Tiger Lily nearby.
"What are you up to?" Blanca asks startling her.
"What are you looking at?" Tiger Lily asks as Hooty picked up the page.
"A scrying potion? Lulu are you gonna spy on your old coven besties?" Hooty asks.
"You need a hand? We'd be happy to help you out." Tiger Lily offers.
"No!" Lilith said pushing them away. "I can do this alone. And don't call me Lulu!"
"Yikes she's having it worse than us." Blanca cringed.
"What should we do?" Tiger Lily asks.
"A good friend would respect her wishes, but a better friend would help no matter what!" Hooty said.
"Hooty no!" Tiger Lily yells.
"That's the opposite of what you should do!" Blanca said.
Grabbing their weapons, the two teenage girls ran after the house demon.
Out on the Boiling Sea, we see Minato and Luz wearing a blue bandannas in her hair, Minato had a black bandanna over his hair with his goggles on it, and both wore a long sleeve gray shirts and black pants. Finally, Luz had her magic glove on and Minato had the Monado strapped to his back.
"When we defeat the Selkidomus and get a boatload of snails, Eda won't have to worry about money for a long time." Luz said.
"And better she won't think we're burdens." Minato said.
"King want a cracker." King smiles acting like a parrot.
"Oh Minato." Looking to him, Luz put his goggles on over his eyes. "The less of your face people can see the safer you'll be."
It was a good thing she couldn't see his face under the goggles because Minato had a soft blush.
"Thanks Luz. At least I know I can still count on you." Minato said.
"All Hands!" Salty yells.
Lining up, Minato and Luz stood with the rest of the crew.
"Alright, crew. The Selkidomus has been ravaging the coastline. It was last seen in the Simmering Shoals. You know the drill, Snag the quarry, get the money galore-y." Salty said dropping a big bag of snails at his feet. "We all do the work, we all get a cut." Salty explains making them all cheer.
"I have many debts." A fish pirate said.
"Till then, keep everything shipshape. This ain't no pleasure cruise." Salty said tossing a mop to Luz and a bucket to Minato. "Don't be a burden, sea squirt."
"Oh you don't have to worry about us." Luz said determined.
Soon Salty was assigning them both chores to do around the ship.
As barnacles hung off the ship, Salty held out a scraper for Luz but she managed to get them off easier with King's horns.
Leading Minato to the sails, Salty was showing him how and when to loosen them, but Minato just smirks.
Climbing to the upper levels of the ship, Minato used a Sky Dragon's roar to send the ship racing through the sea.
Finally, Luz and Minato were singing a sea shanty for the crew.
Got a whale of a tale to tell ya, lads
A whale of a tale or two
'Bout the flappin' fish and the girls I've loved
On nights like this with the moon above
A whale of a tale and it's all true
I swear by my tattoo
When the song finished the crew cheered for them.
"Well, ye had me confront my own biases and I got nothing but respect for ya now, squirt. I mean, sailors." Salty smiles.
"Thanks, Salty. We really feel like a real part of the crew." Luz said.
"Well, that's because you arghhhh." Salty said.
"Nice." Minato smiles as the crew cheers.
"Boo." King calls out eating crackers with the demon birds when one tries to steal from him. "Hey, that's mine, you feather duster!"
Suddenly the ship hits a big wave causing King to fall and roll into the Captain's Quarters.
As the door slams shut King groans getting back up.
"Hey! King want a cracker!" King tries to open the door when he noticed a box of them on the desk. "Ooh."
Climbing atop it King noticed a letter by the box. "Wait. Is that the Emperor's sigil?"
Turning on a light, King saw the entire room was full of the Sigil.
"This ship belongs to the Emperor? Oh, boy. I gotta tell Luz and Minato!" King gasps.
"Unfortunately, you won't have the chance." Turning around King gasps seeing the Golden Guard behind him.
Screaming King saw a dark shadow drop down on him before he was silenced.
Meanwhile in the forest, we see Lilith look at the ingredients list for her potion.
"Okay next is fire bee honey." Looking ahead Lilith saw flaming bee hives hanging from the trees.
However once she enters their territory the Fire Bees turned their attention to her and swarmed together.
Gasping Lilith tried using a magic circle but only one ice cube came out.
Panicking she ran behind a tree as several bees plunge their stingers into it.
"How can I get fire bee honey without ice magic, or porcuspine quills without a sleeping spell? Who am I without magic, without a Coven?" Lilith asks.
"Without friends?" Hooty asks.
Looking up she saw Hooty with his head sticking out of the ground and Blanca and Tiger Lily panting heavily.
"I'm sorry we tried to stop him." Blanca said.
"I thought I told you all—"
"We heard what you said. But we can help you get that honey." Tiger Lily offers.
"I don't need your help. And told you not to follow me." Lilith said.
"Lilith you're a part of the Owl House. That means you're one of us." Tiger Lily said.
"And we look out for each other." Blanca nods.
"If I were you I would—" Hooty starts.
"You would what?!" Lilith snaps standing up. "Because it doesn't matter what any of you would do. You aren't me. You're just some kind of weird bird-worm!"
Hearing this Tiger Lily and Blanca couldn't help but gasp as Hooty teared up.
"You have no idea what I'm going through. I have to do this alone, because if I can't... what kind of witch am I?" Lilith asks.
"I tried to kill Minato." Blanca said getting her attention. "You think we don't know what you're going through? Well you're wrong. I know what it's like to realize you're on the wrong side. Before I joined up with these guys I was an assassin. Doing whatever it took and killing whoever got in my way."
"And I know what it's like to be lost and have no idea what to do. That's how I felt for so long when I came here." Tiger Lily said.
"Don't girls. I'm sorry Lulu I mean Lilith." Hooty frowns as Lilith turns to the Fire Bees.
"Let's try this again." She said grabbing a stick.
Back on the Boiling Sea, we see Salty's ship enter dark waters.
"We're here. The Simmering Shoals. Eyes peeled, mates." Salty calls out.
As they passed by some shipwrecks, Minato slowly gripped his Monado and Luz slipped on her Magic glove.
"She's close." Salty said.
Suddenly a large fin whacked the side of the ship shaking it.
"She's here!" Luz gasps.
Looking to the water, they saw the Selkidomus racing along the ship.
As the crew threw harpoons at it, the beast jumped out of the water and its belly expanded like a pufferfish sending spikes flying at them.
While Minato and Luz duck one crew mate got him.
Getting up both draw their weapons.
Taking out ice glyphs Luz creates wall of ice to block the beast from escaping.
"Lightning Burst!" Minato said firing bolts of lightning down on the beast zapping it.
Using this opening Luz fires vines out to tie it up.
"Pull!" Minato said as he and Luz pulled with all their might.
"Help them boys!" Salty orders as the crew grabs the vines and pulls. "Put your backs into it!"
Reaching down Minato and Luz tie the vine to the ship.
"Ha! We did it!" Luz cheered.
"Yeah!" Minato cheered as they high fived when an explosion went off on deck causing them to fall over and allow the Selkidomus to escape.
Groaning Minato lifts the goggles up over his eyes and gasps seeing a figure in the smoke grab the money.
"Is that a ghost pirate?" Salty gasps.
"Our money!" Luz gasps
"That's no ghost that's a thief! We're being robbed!" Minato gasps.
Running to opposite side they saw the thief racing across the water in a small boat.
"Come on!" Slapping an ice glyph on her glove it glowed bright. "Ice Make Boat!"
Landing in the water was a small dingy made of ice.
"Cool trick." Minato smirks.
"Thank you. Now blast us to shore." Luz points.
Nodding Minato uses his wind like a propeller and they chase the thief.
"Wait a second that boy's face looked familiar for a second." Salty said wondering where he had seen that.
As they closed in on the shore their ice boat was melting under the boiling water.
"Faster Minato! Faster!" Luz panics as Minato blasts them ashore just as the ice melts making them collide with the thief and knocking the bag of money into the water.
"The money!" Minato, Luz and the thief yell.
Pausing Minato and Luz recognized that voice.
Walking over, Luz knocks the thief's hat off revealing Eda dressed in her own pirate garb.
"Eda?" Both glared.
"Hey kids." She chuckles sheepishly.
"Why are you robbing our ship? And what happened to your legs?" Minato asks noticing they were gone.
Whistling Eda's legs came out of her little boat and reattached themselves.
"It's called disguising your tracks. Now why were you two on that boat to begin with? You could have gotten killed." Eda asks.
Before they could answer the Golden Guard crashed ashore holding a covered birdcage.
"That can still be arranged." He declares surprising them.
"You again." Minato glares.
"Hello, criminals. What's about to happen should be relatively painless, if you just do what I say." Golden Guard said.
"And why is that?" Luz asks.
"Because only one of you can do real magic." Golden Guard mocks.
"You don't know that!" Eda snaps.
"Maybe not, but I do know you're standing on a plant that eats flesh." He said.
Pausing the three of them look down to see the plants nibbling at their legs.
Panicking they scrambled away making him laugh.
"Okay the human will remain a sailor until she pays off the money she lost while the Owl Lady will be arrested, again, for attacking one of the Emperor's ships." The Golden Guard explains.
"Emperor's Ships?" Luz asks.
"They're the only ones worth robbing." Eda points out.
"And as for you hybrid. Well, I heard your new Wanted Posters were just released maybe I'll turn you in for the reward. If you ask nicely I might even have your cell placed next to daddy." Golden Guard mocks making Minato growl.
"So it's true." Eda mumbles before glaring at him. "Why are you guys hunting the Selkidomus? It's a peaceful creature, and you're provoking it!"
"The Emperor ordered me to slay one. I'm just following orders." The Golden Guard said.
"Well, I'm just gonna smack you around a bit!" Pulling one of her arms off, Eda uses it as a weapon and charges in.
Swinging his staff, Golden Guard blocks it and whacks Eda to the ground.
"Eda!" Luz gasps before hurling a fireball at him. "Leave her alone!"
Using his dash attack, Golden Guard dodges the attack and whacks Luz on top of Eda.
Drawing the Monado, Minato leaps in and slams it down.
Raising his staff, Golden Guard skids back lessening the blow.
"You really want to go for Round 2 with me? After what I did to Belos?" Minato glares.
"No. I'd rather leave your friends dangling above the Boiling Sea!" Using his staff, Golden Guard lifts the sand under Luz and Eda and hurls them over the water.
"Let them go!" Minato orders.
"Stand down and I will." He threatens.
Cringing Minato saw the sand under begin to melt.
"I'd give your answer quickly. Around these parts, just the steam is enough to cause third-degree burns." Golden Guard warns.
Slowly Minato stabs the Monado into the ground.
"Smartest choice you ever made." Golden Guard said throwing them at Minato's feet.
"Are you guys okay?" Minato asks.
"For now." Luz said as they turned to Golden Guard.
"Look I don't have to be that mean. No one will have to be a sailor or get arrested if any of you follows those Selkidomus tracks and slays the beast." He said gesturing to a trail. "Here I'll even help." Using his magic Golden Guard made a sword.
"Or I could just kick your ass right here and now." Minato threatens.
"Oh why do you have to make things so difficult?" Golden Guard asks pinching his mask. "Go or I drown the bird."
Lifting up the blanket they gasp to see King was inside the cage.
"Weh?" King said before the blanket closed. "Oh it's dark now."
"You are really becoming a royal pain." Minato growls.
"Right back at ya hybrid. So what's it gonna be?" Golden Guard asks.
"Fine. I'll do it." Minato said.
"Me too." Luz said grabbing the sword.
"Kids no!" Eda yells trying to stop them.
Back in the forest, the Fire Bees had Lilith surrounded.
"I am not one to be trifled with, bees. I am a witch unhinged!" Swinging the stick at them the bees burnt it with ease making her panic. "What? No, no, no, no, no!"
Panicking Lilith felt completely helpless as the bees closed in. She had a chance at help with Blanca, Tiger Lily and Hooty but she pushed them away and let her ego get the best of her.
"I can't do this alone! I need help!" Lilith admits.
"It's about freaking time!" Jumping in Blanca swings her sword slashing an opening in the bees.
Summoning her whip, Tiger Lily flicks it making the bees stop.
"Stay back! I said back!" Tiger Lily said summoning a Crocodile Spirit who chomps down on some of the fire bees.
"You guys came?" Lilith said surprised.
"Of course we did." Blanca said slashing the swarm away when Hooty burst out of the ground and whacks them away from her.
"I'm here for you, Lulu. No witch is an island. Now face my wrath!" Hooty yells.
Watching the three of them fight, Lilith couldn't help but smile impressed.
Back with Luz and Minato, the two of them were walking through the cave with Eda right behind them.
"Minato please, don't hurt the Selkidomus. We can find another way out of this." Eda said.
"You heard him, Eda. Luz and I have to do this on our own." Minato said as he and Luz approached a hole leading down below.
"What's this alone business? What happened to us weirdoes—" Eda starts.
"What? Stick together?" Luz interrupts. "Because of us, you lost your magic. You almost got turned to stone, and now you can't even afford your apple blood because you're worried about what we need to eat." Luz frowns.
"Eda we're tired of being nothing but trouble to you and King. And now I'm basically taking your place as the worst criminal on the Boiling Isles. That's the worst kind of trouble." Minato frowns.
Pausing Eda saw the painful looks on both their faces. Eda had spent all this time trying to keep things normal but didn't realize they were having it worse than her. They were trying to be brave, but really they were both scared and confused.
As the Selkidomus's growl echoed through the cave, Luz and Minato had determined looks.
"We'll make it up to you Eda. We promise." Luz said.
"Just sit tight." Minato said as they both made their way down.
"Luz! Minato!" Eda yells.
Landing at the bottom, both teens land atop the Selkidomus.
Growling the Selkidomus roars throwing them off it.
Landing on the ground, Minato sees it fire spikes at them.
Changing the Monado to shield mode he deflects the attack.
"Let's hit this thing hard." Luz said taking out an ice glyph.
"Sounds good to me." Minato gripping the Monado in one hand and making a Chidori in the other.
Slamming the glyph down it launches them both into the air.
But just as they were about to attack Eda swung in and knocks them both behind a pile of seaweed.
"Eda? What are you doing?" Minato asks.
"You two think throwing your life away is gonna help me? Well, it won't. You helped me find King's crown when you barely knew me. You helped me take my human garbage stand business to the next level with those Yugioh cards. You helped me become friends with Despair the Calamity Imp the most annoying guy on the Boiling Isles. You saved me from turning to stone and you even got me talking to my sister again. Hell, you beat up the Emperor, the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles just for me. So, unfortunately for you, my life is pretty great, because I'm friends with Luz the human and Minato the hybrid." Eda declares making them tear up.
Reaching out Eda pulls them into a group hug.
"Now listen, your guilt-ridden brains and fears are clouding your judgment. There's gotta be a way out of this, where no one has to get hurt." Eda said.
Pausing the three of them tried to think when they heard a noise.
Looking down they saw a baby Selkidomus right next to them.
"You thinking what I'm thinking?" Minato asks.
"Always. Hey Eda. How would like to learn your first glyph?" Luz asks holding some out.
Outside, the Golden Guard was having some fun covering and uncovering the blanket on King's cage.
And just like a bird whenever he saw the light King circled the cage confused.
"You're actually weirdly endearing." Golden Guard laughs.
"No…I'm not." King snores.
Looking up, the Golden Guard saw the shadows of Luz, Minato and Eda fighting the Selkidomus.
As Eda punches it in the face Luz and Minato charge in with their swords and slash its head off.
"Hmm not bad." Golden Guard said as the two of them come out dragging what seems to be its head.
"Oh, that thing smells awful. Why are you touching it with your hands? Gross." Golden Guard said in disgust.
"You're gross. Now give us King." Luz orders.
"Actually he smells too. Take him." Golden Guard said tossing him back to them. "Thank you for your service. You can find your own way home. And try to stay out of trouble."
"Then you shouldn't have put a reward up for my head." Minato glares.
"The Emperor is not a merciful man Hybrid. If you want to go to battle against him well you better make sure you don't die. I want a rematch too someday." The Golden Guard turns to him before hopping on his staff. "Bye!" He waves goodbye before disappearing in a flash.
"Man that guy is annoying." Minato said while Luz blew raspberries at him.
Looking at the Selkidomus corpse we actually see it was just another one of Minato's abominations covered in Luz's plant glyphs. Next to it we see Eda making multiple light glyphs that were revealed to be the cause of the shadows.
"My first glyph. Did I do good?" Eda asks.
"You did amazing." Luz smiles.
Whistling they see the Selkidomus and her baby approach them with big smiles.
"Aw baby." Luz giggles as the baby nuzzles her before looking at Minato.
"Hey cut it out. You're welcome." Minato laughs.
"What is that?" King asks creeped out.
"Don't worry, King. Once the mother saw we weren't a threat to her baby, she calmed down." Eda explains before turning to the mama. "This area is dangerous. You need to move further out into the sea."
Nodding the Selkidomus suddenly started to gag before spitting out a ton of gold-colored substance.
"Uh what is that?" Minato asks a little grossed out.
"Hot dang! It gave you the treasure of the sea." Eda smiles.
"Gold? Tuna?" Luz asks.
"No, Tuna is the chicken of the sea." Minato corrects.
"It's selkigris. Ah, people pay big money for it at the Night Market. Feel the money." Coating her hands in it, Eda rubs it against their faces.
"Eda stop!" Luz said.
"Cut it out!" Minato laughs as they all fell into the pile.
Looking at them, Eda saw the two of them were smiling.
"There's those smiles." Eda smiles. "Maybe now you kids will stop looking at yourselves like you're the problem." Eda said.
Looking to each other Minato and Luz smile and nod softly.
"Good. Now before we head back I'm gonna show you kids a benefit to having a big bounty." Eda grins.
Back in Bonesborough, at a Guard's station, the door was suddenly kicked open.
"Huh?" Looking up the guards saw two Pirates with their faces covered holding Minato who was handcuffed.
"We got the Hybrid. Now give us the reward." The tall one said holding the Monado up.
"Please! No! I don't wanna go to jail!" Minato sobs.
"Sweet Titan it is him!" The guard said about to grab him.
"Hey. Money first. Then you get him." The younger one said.
"Oh right of course. Get the money!" The guard orders.
"Please! I'm begging you! I'm just a child!" Minato whines.
"Here you go." The guard said handing them the money.
"Thank you and now." Ditching the disguises we see the figures were Eda, King and Luz both armed with glyphs and the Monado.
Smirking Minato immediately broke out of the cuffs.
"Uh oh." One guard said.
"Mommy." The second one said.
From inside the building, the sounds of punches, magic blasts and screams echoed.
Back at the Owl House, we see Lilith putting ointment on a severely wounded Hooty while Blanca and Tiger Lily had a few scrapes.
"I'm sorry for sending you away before. It's hard for me to ask for help." Lilith asks.
"It's okay. I'm sorry for being all nosy-nosy." Hooty said.
"And annoying." Blanca adds.
"Seriously. Why do you think everything attacked you over us?" Tiger Lily asks making Lilith giggle.
"So uh be honest does it ever get easier?" Lilith asks.
"Look Lilith you can't change the past. It hurts for a while, but when you're around good friends it goes away pretty fast." Tiger Lily smiles.
"Lulu, every friendship comes with its ups and downs. Right, best friend?" Hooty asks.
"I'm not commenting on that…Hootsifer." Lilith smiles.
"A nickname!" Hooty smiles.
"You don't have to give us nicknames. We're fine just being called friends." Blanca smiles.
"Hmm I don't know I might have a few ideas in store." Lilith smiles when the cauldron began to bubble. "The scrying potion, it's ready."
Suddenly the door swings open to reveal a bruised Minato, Luz, King and Eda but they had big smiles on their faces.
"Whoo!" Minato and Luz cheered carrying a big bag of snails bigger than the one they lost in the sea.
"Where did all that money come from?" Blanca asks.
"From Minato's Bounty." King said.
"You have a bounty?" Tiger Lily said surprised.
"Yep and we used it to rob those stupid guards blind." Eda smiles.
"Eda, come here. I have a gift for you. To prove that I'm trustworthy, I'm giving you a peek inside the Emperor's Castle." Lilith said gesturing to the cauldron.
Looking into it they saw some Emperor's guards just standing around going Sup.
"Hmm not as exciting as you made it sound." Minato said.
"What are we supposed to do with this?" Luz asks.
"Whatever you want. Don't you see? These troops don't know what to do with themselves. So, go crazy. Pull whatever pranks your heart desires. They're clueless without me." Lilith explains.
"Now that's what I like to hear. And that Golden Guard what a chump. No wonder Minato had so much energy to take on Belos after fighting him." Eda brushes off.
"What in the?" Looking to the door, Katara and Dez saw all of them bruised and dressed weirdly.
"Something tells me something crazy happened while we were away." Katara said.
"Long story. What's up?" Minato asks.
"Listen Naomi wants to see us all. She's got something big she needs to tell us." Dez said.
Looking at each other they all decided to go investigate.
At Naomi's manor, the group slowly made their way in.
"So uh you guys gonna fill me in on this?" Lilith asks.
"Later. Right now Naomi is a friend." Luz said.
As they opened the door they saw Naomi with her husband Hector and her son Anthony but we also see Edwin, Oliver and Alistair in the room as well.
"There he is! The man of the hour!" Hector said as they all stood up and applauded him.
"Uh what's going on here?" Blanca asks.
"We didn't know you had this kind of fire. Well done." Alistair smiles.
"Minato." Running over to him, Anthony stopped in front of his cousin. "I saw your whole battle! My cousin tied with Emperor Belos! You were amazing!"
"Oh you saw that huh?" Katara cringes.
"The whole Boiling Isles saw what happened at the Petrification Ceremony. Especially you're big moment sir." Edwin said walking up to him. "And I loved every second of it." He smiles surprising them.
"Edwin smiles?" Lilith whispers.
"First time I've ever seen that." Eda shrugs.
"It was the coolest thing I had ever seen." Anthony said.
"And now all the Soulwings know what you're capable of. Young man, you are the talk of the family." Oliver said.
"You're not mad?" Blanca asks.
"Mad? This is like the best thing we could have hoped for." Naomi said.
"You've lost me." Minato said.
"Don't you get it? Even with a bounty this high Elias can't get anyone to come after you." Hector said.
"No one wants to go after the only wizard to tie with the Emperor. Even if he offered 10 times your bounty." Naomi explains.
"You should see his face. The man has no idea how to deal with you know and he's clearly showing it." Edwin said.
"This day just gets better and better." Eda smiles.
"Listen Minato, you guys are struggling to figure things out but we're gonna help you. Right now you're all anyone talks about, I want to try and book you and your team for a few Powerball Games. You do this and my player paychecks can easily support you guys." Alistair said.
"Wait you want me to play Pro Powerball?" Minato asks.
"Your whole team. You, Katara as the main players and you guys can be their pit crew." Alistair points.
"Me too?" Lilith said not expecting that.
"Hey you're a former coven head, bet you can offer some tips to help your team win." Alistair points.
"Well…I might have a few." Lilith admits.
"I know some people from Errands. I can get you all supplies you might need down the way: clothes, food, books, anything you people might need." Oliver said.
"Crackers! King wants crackers!" King orders.
"That can be arranged." Oliver said.
"And don't worry, you guys have me to keep eyes and ears out for any potential problems." Naomi said.
"Wow and I thought having a Wanted poster was a bad thing." Minato said.
"It is, fortunately for you, you just have a lot of people to help turn this into a good thing." Naomi smiles.
"So what do you say? Does the Owl House want to be an official Powerball team?" Alistair asks.
"I don't know. After Minato's last time on the course do we really want that?" Dez asks.
"Those were cheap players who got out. These are real players who are committed to the game. If you guys agree to this you'll be pitted against some of the best the Isles has to offer: your skills be sharpened, you'll blow the fans away, and more than that you'll show everyone this group is not a joke and should not be messed with." Alistair said trying to inspire.
"Well…" All of them paused unsure about that.
Sighing Alistair put his hands on his hip. "Players and Pit Crews eat for free at the arena."
"Go Team 99!" They all cheered.
"You should have led with that one." Oliver chuckles.
"Come on, we can all sit down to eat. We have a lot to talk about." Naomi said.
"Finally. Things are starting to feel right again." Lilith said.
Little did they know back at the Owl House, Lilith's Scrying Potion it moves through a wall revealing a hidden room where Belos is reassembling the portal door.
As he puts a new mask on, he turns to face the screen.
"Knock, knock human." Belos declares.
