"Hey, uh, Leilani?" Duke entered Leilani's cubicle.
Leilani turned her chair around. "Oh, Duke! Hi! What's that red stuff on you?"
Duke looked down and saw he had traces of red powder on his shirt. He brushed it off. "All gone?"
"You still have some on your face." Leilani ran a paw down her muzzle.
Duke gave his muzzle a few swipes. "Lei, this weird thing happened a couple minutes ago. I'm pushin' my cart, and this red dust explodes from it and it throws me on the floor! It turned out to be some recalled toy. When I picked it up, it had a note on it sayin' that I'd be sorry. Ya think that's somethin' to worry about? I'm wonderin' if maybe it's from PJ and she's mad at us, or just me, since I was the one that got the creepy prank threat thing."
Leilani, her mouth dropped open, remained silent for a moment. "I, uh, well, I actually would be worried." She shivered. "Wow, now I'm scared. You think anybody's gonna come for me?"
"Well, if it's PJ, then probably." Duke shrugged and nodded.
Leilani yelped and crawled under her desk. "Wait! It's too dark in here!" She climbed back up to her chair and squeezed onto the back, her claws digging holes in it.
"Whoa! Lei! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" Duke frantically patted her head. "Look, are ya done with work soon?"
The trembling weasel slowly allowed her wide purple eyes to look up into Duke's eyes. "About five more minutes."
"Tell ya what, since I'm done with work, how 'bout I stay with ya until you're done, then I'll stay extra close to ya when we leave and walk to the car. Sound good?" Duke stroked Leilani's back.
"T-That w-would be great! Thank you!" Leilani gingerly arranged herself back around, facing the computer.
Duke was surprised to find himself fascinated during his observation of Leilani's digital work. "So, uh, can I sit here, too?"
Leilani, a bit more relaxed, scooted over.
Duke sat next to her. "So, ya gotta write ten different sales pitches?"
Leilani sighed. "Yeah, before I leave today. Once I'm done here, I'm going to email this document to Miss Leapman."
"So, does this Miss Leapman come up with anythin' on her own?"
A gentle laugh escaped Leilani. "Yeah, she just likes having other animals to bounce things off of."
"Well, ya got some good sales pitches here, and I bet nobody's got any better ones."
"You think so?" Leilani turned to face him. "I've honestly been pretty worried."
"Yeah. I do."
"Thanks," Leilani said, "I needed that."
Duke stared at Leilani as she typed with more vigor. "Okay! I'm done! Let's go!"
"Oh!" Duke shook his head. "Okay!"
"Ya know, I really wish this joint had a parkin' lot!" Duke exclaimed as he got into the driver's seat."
Leilani got into the passenger's seat. "Yeah, it can be a huge pain in the neck to find a place to park on the street. Parking lots at least don't have oncoming traffic." She threw her briefcase in the backseat. She turned back around. "Duke, I didn't know you bought a radio! Thank you! We can have something for backup in case something goes wrong with this car's radio!
"Radio? I didn't buy a radio."
"Huh, that's weird, because there's a radio back there. It's on mute and it's changing stations by itself! Battery must be low."
Duke looked back and saw a black box with green digits counting down. "It's a bomb! I've seen them in action movies!"
Duke and Leilani screamed as they clambered out of the car.
"Should we throw it?" Leilani asked.
"I don't know! I don't wanna explode anybody!"
"What number was it down to?"
"It was like, one minute! I think I have time to find some place to put it!" Duke opened one of the back car doors, grabbed the black box, and ran. He ran onto the sidewalk as he turned his head in all directions. Although the amount of animals present was sparse, he knew it wouldn't be safe to throw. He looked back at Leilani. "I don't know where to throw it!"
Leilani grabbed her ears and looked around. She pointed to an empty construction side across the street. "Throw it there! Nobody's there!"
Duke ran across the street, then toward the construction site. He dropped the bomb as far away from the unfinished building as possible, then ran back to the car.
BOOM!
Duke felt the ground shake as he caught himself on the handle of the front car door. Leilani caught herself on his shirt.
As animals screamed and frantically talked amongst themselves, Duke looked back at Leilani. "ZPD?"
"Yes! ZPD!"
They got in the car and sped off.
