30 years before:

"I understand you two coming along, I can maybe understand Komasan and Komajiro, but why do they have to come along?" Nate asked, pointing to the two 'Merican Yo-kai. "I don't get to see you often buddy! This'll be a purrfect chance to hang out, meow." Tomnyan said, taking out his guitar. "It beats being with Hailey, that's for sure." Usapyon said. "This day just gets better and better, please tell me you at least have the new watch." Nate said, rubbing his temples. Whisper jumped in shock, although his body just extended for a brief minute. "I-I-I-I-I-I" Whisper stammered on for a few minutes, his entire body turning red, even the swirls on the top and bottom of his body were red. Nate raised an eyebrow and looked at Usapyon. "None of us got it." he said clearly. He looked at Whisper, who was now on his hands and lower body. "Please forgive me my master, for I have sinned in not getting you the latest watch." he continuously bowed and begged for forgiveness, Nate and the rest of the present Yo-kai had drops of sweat rolling down the back of their heads. "It's okay, do you know who has the watch? Maybe we can persuade them to give it to me with a trade." Nate said. Whisper let out an exasperated sigh, "Who would trade the brand new Yo-Kai Watch for something as dumb as this?" Whisper held up the weird key he got. Nate raised his eyebrow and took it into his hands. It had the same pattern as the inside of his watch: pink, blue, green, and purple. It was just missing the clock hands, which was replaced with a blue flame in the middle. "You got this from the Crank-a-kai?" Nate asked, looking at both sides of the key. "Yeah, he really got unlucky. Could you also believe that there were still prize balls in that thing? Like geez louise." Usapyon muttered, jumping up and down to examine the key himself. Komajiro stepped forward, licking some of the ice cream he and his brother got on their way to visit Nate. "Aren't you out of school for the summer? Maybe you can get lucky and get the watch." Komajiro suggested, "THAT'S RIGHT! QUICKLY NATE! TO MOUNT WILDWOOD!" Whisper began pushing Nate towards the direction of the mountain. "Do you forget that I have a date with Katie?!" Nate asked, trying to stop the ghost from pushing him to the mountain. "Nyot a date, you two are just going to the park together, alone." Jibanyan said, scratching his rear as he laid down on the grass.

"Blow her off, this is more important than a date with Katie." Whisper said, still pushing the human boy to the mountain. "OH MEOW GOD! You have a date?! Well butter my biscuits, congrats pardner!" Tomnyan took out his guitar and began to sing. "Meow meow meow meow meow itty bitty kitty itty bitty kit-" he was stopped by Jibanyan, who simply grabbed the guitar and chucked it far away. "MEOW!" Tomnyan said, freezing up, Jibanyan swore that he got a bit more realistic there for a second, like everything in the world was the same, but the second cat yo-kai just… didn't belong. "I'M COMING BABY!" he screamed, rushing off. Smoke blew from his feet as tiny high pitched pitter patters were heard behind him. The smoke trailing behind the cat yo-kai caused Whisper to start coughing, giving Nate ample time to run off and head to the park. "WAIT UP NYATE!" Jibanyan said, running after him. "NATE! GET BACK HERE WE NEED TO GET THAT WATCH! I MUST HAVE IT!" Whisper floated after him and the cat yo-kai. "WE WANT TO GO TOO!" Komasan and Komajiro said, the tiny high pitched pitter patters reached Usapyon's ears as he was now alone. "What in tarnation is their deal?" Usapyon scratched the back of his head. He instead decided to walk home, Hailey would probably be wondering if he got that new watch and he was just going to tell her the truth… even though he was going to be ridiculed for it.

As for Nate and the others, they made it to the park just in time as Katie rounded the corner. Nate was glad to see the worried look on her face was back to the usual smile. "Hey Katie!" Nate waved, the girl waved back and from that point on, the day was normal. They swung on the swings and talked about some things they were planning for summer. While they talked, the yo-kai hung out, except for Whisper, who continued to bug Nate about the new watch. It got so bad that Nate had to smack him with a paper fan that he seemingly pulled out of nowhere. Whisper went bouncing around the park after he got hit and almost got sent flying into the air. "Nate…?" Katie asked. The boy turned around to find the ponytailed girl looking at him with a confused look. "Oh! Uh, just doing some batting practice! Yeah, I wanna get back to doing some baseball this summer!" Nate said, waving his arms around frantically. Katie squinted, before she remembered something, something important she wanted to ask Nate. "There is something I wanted to ask you, just to make sure that I got the spelling right." Katie said, going to her phone and opening the web browser like she did at school. Nate looked at her with a confused look.

"How do you spell Jibanyan?"

Nate felt a tiny drop of sweat on his cheek. He blinked, "Co-could you repeat that?" he asked, chuckling a little bit. "You were talking about it back at the school when you were talking to nobody, I heard you say Jibanyan and… what was the other thing?" Katie asked, tapping her left cheek. He did say something else, something medal do your thing? Why couldn't she remember what he said? "Oh that! Uh" Nate seemingly trailed off, Katie watched him with intent. She mainly focused on his eyes, back at school, she noticed that his eyes seemed to dart off in different directions. Maybe he was going to do it here? She hadn't really thought of actually interrogating Nate about stuff like this, mainly because she thought he was just… well, average. But now that she was looking back in her mind, she realized that Nate had acted pretty weirdly… among other kids in the school. She remembered multiple times some girl running down the school hallway screaming at the top of her lungs for some reason. How someone isn't embarrassed by that is beyond her. But it wasn't just that girl, it was other people as well. The teachers, Nate himself, Bear and Eddie, heck she suddenly had weird gaps in her memories now looking back. However, most of the time she was thinking of Nate and how he would just rush off for some reason in the middle of conversations or just fiddle with his watch of his… that watch.

Katie never really questioned the watch much, none of his friends did. She remembered him coming down from Mount Wildwood with it one day and ever since then, strange occurrences have been happening around town. Strange occurrences seemed to happen before if memory served Katie correctly, but when Nate had that watch, it felt like every day was something new and bad. As Katie got lost in her mind, Nate was busy with the Yo-kai on what to do. "Just tell her how awesome I am from a video game or something." Jibanyan said, munching on some chocolate. "Awesome wouldn't really be the best word to describe you honestly." Whisper said, with Jibanyan getting a tick mark on the back of his head. "You wanna say that again?" he asked, getting up in Whisper's face. As the stand-off was going on, Nate turned back to Katie, who seemed to be spacing out. "I-uh, Jibanyan is… a cat from a video game! I was just uh… playing pretend outside the school!" Nate said, Katie was pulled out of her trance, a frown present on her face. "Really? Cause I tried looking up Jibanyan on the internet and I didn't get any results for any video game." Katie said, trying to search up the name again. "Is this how you spell it?" she asked, holding her phone by Nate. Nate scratched the back of his head and said "Y-yeah! It's just… a very obscure video game." Katie didn't believe him. "What is the name of the game?" she asked, looking curious. "Uhm…" Nate said, before he looked over to find Tomnyan walking over. "HOWDY! I FINALLY GOT MEOW GUITAR! LET'S GET THIS DATE STA-"

The cat yo-kai from BBQ hit his head on seemingly nothing. His eyes became swirls as he fell to the ground. "Oh meow god." he muttered. "What the…" Nate muttered, the yo-kai went over to tend to their friend, with Whisper hitting himself on the invisible object as well. "WHISSU!" he screamed, falling to the ground and creating a small crater. "What the?" Katie said, looking at the crater that seemingly came from nowhere. She walked over and knelt down to see the small crater, it just… appeared out of nowhere, there wasn't anything in there to create something that big anyway. She looked up to find Nate leaning against something, his eyes wide in shock. Katie pressed her hands on… the air? She could feel something there. The texture was smooth, almost like the inside of a seashell. She could feel bumps too, ridges as well. It was like something was there, but it was invisible. Her first theory was glass, but glass didn't feel like the inside of a seashell, nor did it have bumps. It was just… something, and it was invisible. Nate seemed equally shocked, he took a few steps back. "Alright, alright." Katie breathed in and out to calm herself. The girl with the ponytail turned to her average friend, "You just… wait right here. I'll find an adult to see if they can help us with…" Katie looked over her shoulder to where the invisible thing was, she sighed before saying "Don't go anywhere." Katie ran off, leaving Nate to tend to his Yo-kai friend Tomnyan. "He's got a bump bigger than a hill on a bright summer day." Komasan said, with Komajiro opening up his back to put some ice on the wound. "Oh, don't tend to the faithful Yo-kai butler, I'll just walk it off." Whisper said, his arm shaking as he raised it upwards. Nate wanted to talk back about the Yo-kai butler talk, because he wasn't a butler in the slightest, but that wasn't on his mind right now. "Let's just see what hurt you guys." Nate said, holding up his arm to use the watch's search function. He pressed the button and the lights all around the watch illuminated, casting a bright red light in the middle of the invisible object, revealing… some kind of door. "What the…" Nate said, looking at the door, all the yo-kai crowded around Nate looking at it as well. "Well… you first." Nate pushed Whisper forward, and then he and the rest of the Yo-kai ran behind the park bench. Whisper had multiple drops of sweat going down his back. "What?" he asked, confused about what just happened. He let out a nervous chuckle before he turned around to look at the weird door thing. He slowly floated forward and touched the door with his pinky. The ghost screamed at the top of his lungs, his eyeballs popping out of their sockets as he ran to the bench. He was shaking and crying, "PLEASE DON'T HURT ME!" he screamed, but nothing happened.

"Weird… Whisper, do you know what this thing is?" Nate asked, Whisper did what he usually did. He searched the Yo-kai pad for his knowledge. It had knowledge of every Yo-kai out there and all of their forms. It was also a reliable source for reading, texting, whatever you needed to do! Although, there was nothing there on weird door things that resemble the pattern of the Yo-Kai Watch. "Nate, I am terribly sorry, but my mind is completely blank! With my vast butler knowledge, even I don't know what this is." Whisper said.

"He was just trying to look it up."

Whisper gave a death glare at Komasan, who looked at him with innocence in his eyes. Nate had a drop of sweat go down his head. "Figures." the human said, looking back at the weird door thing. "Well I'll be, isn't that like the key you had gotten from the Crank-a-kai?" Tomnyan said, Nate looked down at him as the cat Yo-kai from BBQ dug into the human's pocket, pulling out the strange key. The key was softly glowing, as Nate looked back over at the door, he could notice it had the same pattern as the key. Pink, purple, blue and green with a flame directly in the middle. It just seemed to be a bigger version. "So… this key could open the door?" Nate asked, walking forward. Jibanyan followed him, with Whisper reluctantly following him as well. The three stood right by the door, the key was now glowing brightly, and the door was reacting to it. He turned to the three Yo-kai behind the bench. "I need you to watch for Katie and yell to me if she's coming back here." Nate said, Tomnyan gave a thumbs up while shouting "OKAY!" while the Koma Bros gave a nod. "I'll be on the lookout on this side, Tomnyan, you can be on that side and as for you bro." Komajiro said, placing his brother by the door. "You have the easiest job, you just yell to Nate when things go bad." Komajiro explained. Komasan saluted his brother like an army general and the two others took their stations. Tomnyan was on the left and Komajiro was on the right. The right was where Katie left so she was bound to come from that side. As for Nate, Whisper, and Jibanyan, they stood outside the door with determined looks on their faces. Nate brought the key to the door and instead of inserting it, he held the face of the key over the blue flame, causing it to open. The door opened slowly, revealing some sort of different version of the park. He briefly saw people run by and swore he heard muffled voices. "Well… no other way to go than forward." Nate said. "I'll go first." Jibanyan said.

"No please, allow me." Nate came in.

"Oh dearest Nathan, I wouldn't be the best Yo-kai butler if I didn't charge myself into danger to protect you." Whisper said, bowing. Nate and Jibanyan looked at each other and then back at Whisper. "Okay." they both said, Whisper grew whiter than he already was, even his lips were pale. Instead, he pushed Jibanyan forward. "WHAT THE NYAN!?" Jibanyan fell face first through the door and onto the sand. He lifted his head and looked around. "Hm? Huh? Hey guys! It's nyot so bad over here!" Jibanyan said, although he sounded a bit muffled. Nate and Whisper looked at each other before they both stepped through the doorway. "Hm! Kinda nice." Whisper said, basking in the sun. It was weird, back at the park he was, while it was summer and hot, it was a bit cloudy. Here, there wasn't a cloud in the sky. It was… interesting to say the least. "This… this is just a park." Nate said, he didn't know what to expect, but he surely wasn't expecting just a boring old park. The park was very open though, water fountains, stairs, and a weird slide looking thing were scattered around the area. They were entranced by the park so much that they failed to notice that the door behind them was closing… and even turning to stone. Nate thought he heard some mumbling behind him, but just chalked it up to the two Yo-kai taking in the boringness of the park. "Alright, well, we had our fun, time to head back so I can be with Katie." Nate said, his mind began to wander as he daydreamed about him and Katie. "Oh sweet sweet Katie." Nate felt drool going down his chin as he walked to the door. The life they were going to live once this date did well. Sure, he had a slip-up with the Yo-Kai Watch today but he was going to change that. "I think our daughter is going to be… Summer." Nate clasped his hands together as drool continued to flow from his mouth. He continued walking…

And slammed directly into the stone cold door face first.

"Wow Nyate, the nyame for your future daughter that will most likely nyever exist was so average it broke the door." Jibanyan said, running up to the door. Nate growled at him as he got to his feet, before panicking that the door was now sealed shut and turned to stone. Nate placed his hands on the door, the smooth texture it once had now turned to a hard rough texture that resembled stone. "Just great! Who knows where we are right now?" Nate said, pressing his hands against the door in a vain attempt to open it. "Just summon Mirapo Nate, we'll be back in no time." Whisper said, floating by his master's side. "Problem, I don't have Mirapo's medal on hand right now." Nate said, Whisper had a drop of sweat roll down the back of his head. "Well… we have that key don't we? Let's just use that." Whisper said, Nate pulled out the key and hovered it over the face of the door, nothing happened. "Guess you're walking home." Whisper said. It didn't take long for the three to start breaking out into an argument. The three were arguing over the door and whose fault it was to drag them here, they were so caught up they didn't notice that not far away, the Yo-kai Detective Agency was watching over them.

"So when is Summer going to be back?" Cole asked, watching the kid from behind the bench. "Don't know, she said that she and Tate had to go run an errand for their mom. Something about dinner." Bruno said. Isabelle didn't really like watching over some twelve year old kid argue with himself, but he wasn't exactly arguing with himself. There were two creatures with them, probably yo-kai. There was a red cat with a yellow stomach band and two tails that seemed to be lit with blue flames. The other one was a white ghost thing with purple lips and a giant black bar that went from his left eye to his right eye. The top of his body had a small swirl on it while the bottom of his body had a large swirl. They were arguing about the door, which had just turned to stone right before their very eyes, but this kid… he could interact with yo-kai. "So Isabelle, who's he talking to?" Cole asked, looking at the girl who could see Yo-kai without the watch. "Well… a white ghost with purple lips and a red cat with fire at the end of its tails." Isabelle stated, both Cole and Bruno stared at each other, did they mean Jibanyan? What was Jibanyan doing with someone as average as this guy? "Maybe… maybe we should go say hi to them." Isabelle said, trying to be friendly. She didn't even wait for the others to respond, she just walked forward anyway. The girl approached the young boy with a smile. "Excuse me?" she said, causing the boy to stop arguing and turn to the girl, one look at her and he started blushing. She giggled and asked, "Did you just come out of this door?" she asked. The boy's eyes widened but the blush refused to disappear. "Y-yeah, you can see the door?" he asked, the girl simply giggled but before she could say another word, a loud roar came from nowhere.

Nate and the girl looked up to the sky to see a giant beast come flying down, knocking both the girl and Nate on their butts. The two yo-kai screamed in horror as the beast towered over them, a giant black aura emitting from the beast. The beast was large and purple, having three heads but only one head had an eye, the other two had mouths. There were blue spots on each of the necks of the beast and it had thick arms with four digits on each finger. The body was circular and had slimy goop surrounding it. "Wh-WHAT IS THAT THING?!" Nate screamed, backing up to the stone door. The beast let out a terrifying roar and attacked, causing Nate to push the girl and roll out of the way. Jibanyan screamed and jumped to Nate's side while Whisper was gobbled up by the left head. "WHISPER!" Nate screamed, but it didn't take long before Whisper was spat back out through the right head. "HEY! I'M DELICIOUS!" Whisper screamed, a tick mark visible in the back of his head. "NYOT THE TIME FOR THAT!" Jibanyan said, jumping out of the way as the other head tried to bite down. "It… it spat him back out…" Nate's upper eyelid twitched, before he shook his head and dug into his pocket. He pulled out a simple medal with a gold ring. "Come on out my friend!" Nate said, tossing the medal into the air with a spin. The monster looked over, its one eye beginning to glow. "Calling Shogunyan!" Nate caught the medal, as he prepared to shove the medal into his watch, a bright light shined over him and before he knew it, the world went black.

"NYATE!" Jibanyan screamed, running over to his human companion, who was now turned to stone. "Nate, speak to me! Can you breathe?" Whisper asked, worried for the boy that was now trapped in stone. "WHO'S GONNYA BUY ME CHOCOBARS?!" Jibanyan said, a waterfall of tears exploded from his eyes as his pupils began to squirm, expanding and shrinking. Isabelle looked at the boy, taking a weird coin out of his hands. Strangely, the coin wasn't turned to stone either. Isabelle held the coin in her hands, it had a gold rim and seemed to show a cat wearing samurai armor and holding a sword that was slashing the air. Turning the coin to the back, she was met with a red background with what appeared to be white horns coming out of a small white circle. "Weird…" she muttered. "LOOK OUT!" the red cat said, tackling her to the ground. The beast bit down in her area, almost taking the boy with him. The red cat jumped up and looked at the beast. "You're gonnya pay for what you did to Nyate! PAWS OF FURY!" the cat yelled, throwing a flurry of punches at the beast's main neck. It let out a horrid scream as pain shot through the neck. "Nice work Jibanyan, keep that up and we'll have this guy defeated in no time." Whisper said. Instead, the beast seemed to only get angry, letting out a loud menacing roar and leaping up into the air and slamming right down, letting the goop that was surrounding him fly everywhere. It landed on both Jibanyan and Whisper. "GROSS! GROSS! GROSS!" Jibanyan said, shaking himself to get all the goop off of him, with most of it flying to Whisper, whose eyes were the only thing visible through the goop. "I think some got in my mouth." Jibanyan said, more tears fell from his eyes. The beast loomed over them, both of the yo-kai screamed and went near their master, knowing this was their end. "Oh Nate, no matter how many times you've hit me with a paper fan, I've always cared for you!" Whisper said, crying. "Nyate, I used your purple toothbrush to clean my armpits!" Jibanyan flinched. Whisper turned to him. "That-that was my toothbrush!" Whisper screamed, getting up close and personal with Jibanyan. "Whoops." Jibanyan scratched the back of his head. Whisper pulled at the cat's cheeks, shouting "YOU JIBA JERK!" Jibanyan and Whisper were doing this, waiting for their untimely demise.

But it never came.

Instead, the beast let out a loud groan as two boys jumped in front. "Calm down Sly! They aren't going to hurt you or Summer!" a chubby boy said. "Sly", as the two knew the beast was called, didn't seem to care as it let out a loud menacing roar and tried to swipe at the two. Both boys ran out of the way, with the chubby boy going to that girl that was talking to Nate. "You alright Isabelle?" he asked, Isabelle nodded, looking back up at the beast. "What's the matter with him?" the girl asked with a concerned tone. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHAT'S THE MATTER?! IT'S TRYING TO KILL US!" Jibanyan said, jumping up and down. "But he usually doesn't act like that! Something is wrong with Sly." Isabelle told the cat yo-kai. Whisper floated over raising an invisible eyebrow. "Sly normally doesn't go around trying to kill-YOU NAMED IT?!" Whisper screamed. As Sly let out another roar, the chubby boy drew his hand out with two fingers, swiping through the air to create a small star. The star he created in the air was then grabbed by the boy and thrown at Sly, hitting him directly in the eye. Sly let out another roar of pain as he began to try and flee, but was stopped by someone with a deep voice. "And where do you think you are going?" the voice asked, after about two seconds. Sly was then beaten up by the deep voice. Both Jibanyan and Whisper looked at each other before looking back to find Sly on the ground, reverting to some sort of different form. He looked a lot muscular and wore some sort of costume. "Did… did he change, nyan?" Jibanyan asked. He didn't have time to get an answer as behind him, Nate broke out of his stone prison. "Huh… what happened?" Nate asked, rubbing his eyes. "NYATE!" Jibanyan screamed, hugging his best friend, Whisper went in for a hug too.

"You alright kid?" Nate looked up to find a boy with dark hair and wearing a blue and white striped shirt. He wore some sort of black bracelet around his wrist that showed off weird creatures that Nate had never seen before. "I… I think so." Nate said, feeling his body. Two people strode closer, a girl and a boy. The girl was older than Nate, looking to be about thirteen. She had brown hair and eyes, with her hair done into two braids that rested on her shoulders. She wore a red t-shirt with red sleeves and a heart in the middle. She was wearing jean shorts and red high tops. The boy looked to resemble Nate a little bit, having similar hair color and styles. The boy had a small yellow star on his blue shirt and was wearing white pants with blue sneakers. "...hi." The girl said nervously, her hand was shaking. "Hi." Nate said, looking around, everyone was looking at him. He felt a tiny drop of sweat on his cheek, and he started blushing with embarrassment. "Are you… Nate Adams?" the girl asked him. "Y-yeah, that's me." Nate said, the girl smiled slowly, starting to creep the twelve year old boy out. "She's creepy, they all are. Let's run while we have the chance." Whisper said silently into the boy's ear. Nate wanted to do that, but he looked down at his wrist, "The Yo-Kai Watch… it's glowing." Nate said, causing both Whisper and Jibanyan to look at it. "Mine too." the girl said, Nate's eyes widened, so did the two yo-kai companions' eyes. They stared as the girl showed off her watch, it glowed when they got close. "I… I think it's true then. Your Nathan Adams, the legendary Yo-kai Master… right?" the girl continued to ask questions. "I… yeah, that's me." Nate said, standing firm. The girl's smile only got wider and wider. "I think… I think you're my…" the girl had trouble getting it out. Nate, Whisper, and Jibanyan looked at each other and back at the girl, who took Nate's hands into her own hands.

"YOU'RE MY FATHER!"

Nate blinked, he was trying to process what she just said. "I'm your…" Nate said, looking back at his Yo-kai companions, who were also processing what she just said. After about two or three seconds, all three of them went into terror, screaming one single word.

"WHAT?!"

A/N: Another chapter in the books. I remember looking up the YouTube walkthroughs of this fight for some reason. I think it was because I wanted to know how the fight played out before I did this. Originally was going to go off of the version in the demo, where it took place in the present. I scrapped this and the idea of Shadowside Hungramps coming into the present for a simple reason of "Why would they?" I didn't really see it making sense in this story because A. Hungramps wasn't with them to begin with and B. I wanted to have Sly/Micchi be the first thing Nate encountered in the future outside of Isabelle/Ayame. Next few chapters probably won't have much action and will be more of building the world of Shadowside for the present cast, while also making jokes about how different it is from the original. That's all from me, have a nice day/night.
