Chapter 1: A Collision of Fates
Rain pelted the windshield, the droplets racing across the glass in a chaotic dance. Kaelan stared out at the blurred cityscape as the wipers swished back and forth, their rhythmic motion strangely hypnotic. Beside him, Lillian's fingers drummed on the steering wheel, keeping pace with the rapid beat of his favorite rock song blaring from the car's speakers.
"Slow down, 'lian, we are not at the minute," Kaelan suggested, casting a quick glance in his way, obviously not happy with the high speed. His eyes look over the needle trying to keep up with the gear change, constantly trembling.
Lillian flashed a daring grin, his eyes reflecting a playful glint. "Oh, come on, Kaelan. Where's your sense of fun? It's not every day we get to enjoy the thrill of a rainy night drive."
Kaelan chuckled nervously - no, it was fuckin not - and, honestly, he didn't want to enjoy. But to the head he makes, he was not surprised by that commentary. Lillian was like this : always trying to show off and a little too… dangerous (or reckless, and a fucking idiot when he wanted). His grip tightening on the door handle, mechanically. He couldn't shake the feeling that Lillian was pushing the limits a little too far today. Really too far, and he didn't not like this, not at all. The car's speedometer needle flirted dangerously close to the upper end of the scale.
"Seriously, Lillian, don't try to show off ! I'm not fucking interested by your shit. And I'm gonna shit your face really soon, and I ! Really ! Mean it ! Fucking slow down !" Kaelan urged, his voice tinged with unease. He swallowed hard, his grip on the armrest tightening, between angriness and fright. He cleared his throat, trying to sound casual despite the nervousness that churned within him. "You know, Nathan isn't going to be happy when he gets the fines in his name... that you push the speed is one thing, but you know very well that he is protective of his car. Now, slow down, before I do it myself." He tries to be reasonable, before losing his temper and sending him flying across the window.
The face of Lillian would tell easily "heck, it's just a car". But it was not JUST a car, it was the car of Nathan, his precious friend, and more on other occasions. Kaelan forced a smile, feeling the knot of his stomach tightened. His friend was fiercely protective of his car, a prized possession that he had meticulously bought with his savings. It was more than just a mode of transportation; it was a symbol of hard work and dedication.
Before Lillian could respond with words (instead of some weird expression on his face), a blinding set of headlights emerged from the darkness ahead, cutting through the rain like a pair of deadly lasers. Time seemed to slow as Kaelan's heart leaped into his throat. He opened his mouth to shout a warning, but the words were drowned by the screeching of tires and the deafening crash that followed.
The world shattered.
In an instant, the world spun into chaos. Metal groaned and glass shattered, the impact jolting Kaelan's senses. Pain seared through his body as his world was thrown into disarray.
As the world continued to spin and tumbled, Kaelan caught fragmented glimpses of twisted wreckage and shattered glass. The sickening crunch of metal seemed to reverberate through his very bones. He reached out instinctively, his hand seeking an anchor in the tumultuous sea of destruction, but there was nothing to grasp.
A moment that seemed to last forever, Kaelan struggled to come to his senses. Dazed and disoriented, his vision blurred as he tried to make sense of his surroundings. Agony radiated from every corner of his body, a symphony of pain that drowned out all other sensations. He tried to move, his limbs protesting with every effort, but he was trapped, pinned within the wreckage that had once been a car.
"Li-Lilian?" Kaelan's voice was little more than a ragged whisper, his heart pounding in his chest as he strained to see through the haze.
There was no response, only an unsettling silence that hung in the air like a shroud. Panic surged within him, and he fought against the pain, summoning every ounce of strength to free himself from an unknown heaviness. His hands clawed at the twisted metal, his breath hitching with each agonizing action. A false movement, a cry pierced the chaos drowned in silence. It was him. He tried to take a breath of air in the stifling darkness, and he felt himself bleeding out. The blood ran down his face, fell onto the seat, and made its way to the ceiling of the car.
He tried again, just a breath. But it was futile. His body was broken, his strength waning as the seconds passed. And as the rain continued to fall, a somber reminder of the conversation forced its way through his mind, Kaelan's vision faded, and darkness claimed him.
The silence captured the scene of a crashed car, overturned. And nothing more. Just the silence and the rain playing together a grim melody.
