Chapter Three: On the way
After the breakfast ended James stood up and said to his friends: "I will ask Lily now whether she is ready now for our date, ähm… I feel quite nervous, wish me luck!" Sirius gave him a thumb up and said with a big grin: "You are nearly the best, this will work!" James wondered what his best friend might mean with 'nearly the best'. As he would be able to read his mind he explained: "You forgot that I'm the best, you can be second but never place one of the most best guys in the universe!" He laughed when Remus shook his head about this conversation.
Peter suddenly said with an alarming voice: "She is coming, I think she is heading for you James!" James turned around and tried to look cool and relaxed. "Hi Sweetheart!", he said and ran his hand through is hair. This was a thing he always did when he felt nervous and unsure. She stopped directly in front of him and said: "Stop calling me sweetheart or I will not go on this date with you!" He nodded and said: "Okay Swe…", he stopped because he saw her face. "Excuse me, won't happen again I promise!" Lily nodded and then asked him if he would be ready.
"Yes, I'm ready!", he said and offered her his hand. He tried hard not to be super nervous but when Lily took his hand and also gave him a little smile he knew that this would not work out. He felt his heart beating as fast as he would run for his life, but no dementor or werewolf was behind him threatening, no just a girl was holding his hand.
With a big smile he thought:
