Chapter 23: Checkmate!

"Checkmate!" Mikey proudly declared as he won another chess match.

"Congratulations." Mr. Lancer said. "You might win this year's state chess championship. Not that it means as much as a football trophy but it's better than nothing."

"Yeah!" Dash, Dale and Kwan exclaimed.

"Stupid jocks." Sam muttered.

"Anyway, we might have a better chance this year since Princess Natasha isn't playing for Zoravia High anymore." Mr. Lancer commented.

"She used to play chess?" Danny was shocked.

"Yes, Mr. Fenton." Mr. Lancer bluntly answered.

Later on, Natasha met her boyfriend at Fentonworks. "Natasha, I was told you play chess." Danny commented.

"Not something I'm proud of, Danny." Natasha replied. "Nor am I ashamed either. I only entered last year's championship because I needed to."

"You play chess?" Jack eagerly asked. "Would you like to play a match with me?"

"Dad, Natasha and I plan to…"

"I'd love to, Mr. Fenton." Natasha said.

"Good!" Jack happily said.

10 minutes later, Princess Natasha said "Checkmate!" in triumph.

"Bad." Jack grumbled.

"Does anybody else want to play?" Natasha asked.

"I will!" Maddie said.

30 minutes later, Natasha won. "For a while, I thought it'd never end." Danny commented.

"And I that it'd end in a draw." Jack added.

"Wanna play, Danny?" Natasha asked her boyfriend.

"Sorry, but I'm not into chess." Danny answered. "How about we go for a walk in the park?"

"The park?" Natasha asked. "Wouldn't we watch a movie?"

"Too late." Danny answered. "The chess games took more time than you noticed."

Agreeing with Danny, Natasha changed the plans as suggested by him. As they walked around, they chanced into Sam. "I thought you would watch a movie."

"We missed it because of chess, Sam." Danny explained.

"Where's Tucker?" Natasha asked.

"He's doing some techno stuff with other technology-inclined students." Sam answered.

Danny then felt his ghost sense. "I'm going ghost." Some blob ghost showed up and Danny captured them. Everyone around him clapped.

After the date ended, Natasha returned to the Kingdom of Zoravia. Two days later, Casper High defeated Zoravia High in chess thanks to Mikey. Since it was chess, it didn't give him any perks.

Author's Note: Sorry if it's short. I haven't watched the actual "Checkmate" episode nor do I know if Natasha ever played chess in canon.
