Chapter 24: Fame Game

"Homecoming dance?" Princess Natasha asked from her side of the phone call.

"Yes, Natasha." Danny happily answered. "Would you go with me?"

"And see you dancing with whoever becomes elected as Homecoming Queen?" Natasha asked Danny with a tone that suggested she was smiling even if he couldn't see it.

"It could be you." Danny said, surprising his girlfriend.

"How could I be elected Casper High's Homecoming Queen if I'm not even a Casper High student?" Natasha asked, wondering what her boyfriend had in mind.

"All that's required to become a candidate for Homecoming King or Queen is to have enough senior students to sign their support for the candidacy, Natasha." Danny explained. "We don't even have to be senior students ourselves."

"Nice loophole, Danny." Natasha commented.

Days later, at the homecoming dance, Danny and Natasha were listening as the Principal announced the results. "The Homecoming King is Danny Fenton." Principal Ishiyama announced and everyone cheered. "The Homecoming Queen is Princess Natasha."

"I protest!" Paulina shouted. "Royalty or not, Princess Natasha isn't a Casper High student!"

"There's no rule requiring her to be, Ms. Sanchez. We've already discussed it." Mr. Lancer pointed out. "Granted, it was likely because whoever made the rules thought it wouldn't be necessary but rules are rules and loopholes are loopholes."

"Whatever." Paulina grumbled. "Did I get second place?"

"Yes." Principal Ishiyama answered.

Paulina was happy upon hearing it. "How many votes did I get?" She asked.

"One." The Principal answered and practically everyone laughed at Paulina's face.

"Serves her right." Sam commented. "Losing a fame game."

"Don't you mean a popularity contest, Sam?" Tucker asked.

"That name's too mainstream, Tucker." Sam answered.

'I should have seen it coming from someone who says 'ultra-recyclo-vegetarian' instead of 'vegan'.' Tucker thought. "Anyway, I'll check if the runner-up queen wants to dance with the king's best friend."

'She probably doesn't.' Sam thought as Tucker walked away.

"I never thought I'd be called Queen so soon." Natasha commented while dancing with Danny. "Especially because I'm too young. If my Dad's days as King of Zoravia ended right now for a reason other than someone else being elected, a regent would take over until I became of age and only then I'd become Queen."

"What about your mother?" Danny asked.

"She'd likely be the regent, Danny." Natasha explained.

Meanwhile, Tucker returned to the table where Sam was sitting. "She chose Dash Baxter." Tucker moaned to his goth friend. "Can you believe it?"

"Yes, Tucker." Sam replied and then had a thought. "Well, since I'm tired of just sitting down, how about we dance?"

"Okay." Tucker replied.

"I should have seen it coming." Danny commented as he saw Tucker and Sam dancing.

Author's Note: The loophole about Homecoming Queen was inspired by a Power Rangers comic where Bulk becomes a Homecoming King candidate without being a senior student because the rules only require the candidates to have approval from enough senior students, not to be a senior student.
