Gate episode 3: the flame dragon

Helping Itami into the well to fetch the girl I made a joke in my head about little Timmy being stuck in a well and watched as Itami pulled up this beautiful elf with gorgeous pale skin and blonde hair.

The shock on everyone's face was more due to the fact that this was an elf not even a human.

Immediately I said, "I'd like to state for the record should the subject be deceased dark legion has claimed her body for dissection and experimentation."

Itami looked at me and nodded and said, "it has been noted High inquisitor."

Kuribayashi and Kurokawa rushed over and Kurokawa took the elf's pulse and said, "she's alive! We'll take her to the jeep to take her pulse and get her out of those clothes!"

I nodded and said, "proceed."

Itami then looked at me and said, "you really jumped the gun thinking she was dead high inquisitor."

I nodded and said, "I have to put the needs of dark legion first Itami."

Itami nodded and sat down on some rubble to get water out of his boots while Kurata got all hyped up about the elf being cute.

Coldly I looked towards the jeep and said, "for all we know she could be hostile so be ready to shoot."

Kurata looked at me shocked and said, "you wouldn't harm a defenseless elf would you high inquisitor."

Looking back at Kurata with a cold stare I said, "I would and without hesitation, we don't know what we're dealing with her so far, we've seen orcs and giants attack Ginza with Wyverns for air assault, a red dragon, and now an elf, when are we gonna see magic, we can't defend against? I don't know nor do I want to be on the receiving end of a fireball so let's be ready to kill just in case and that is an order."

Itami and Kurata, both saluted me begrudgingly and I got my dober cannon ready just in case.

Kurokawa then approached us and said, "Sir, High inquisitor pardon the interruption."

Itami then said, "so how is she doing?"

Kurokawa smiled and said, "her temperature is back to normal, she's no longer in critical condition."

Itami smiled and said, "that's good to hear."

"Alright so how would you like to proceed?" Kurokawa asked.

Itami looked to me, and I waved my hand saying, "it's your call brother."

Itami nodded and said, "let's see…a dry pair of boots would be pretty kickass right about now!" causing us all to look confused at him.

Itami waved it away and said, "never mind, look there is no way we can leave her here, she ended up loosing her entire village…High Inquisitor you have any ideas?"

I nodded my head and said, "classify her as a refugee and bring her along with us, she could make for a good guide in this new world."

Kurokawa chuckled and said, "I had a feeling you two would come up with an idea like that."

Itami chuckled and said, "yeah I know pretty humane of us wouldn't you agree?"

Giving a smile of pity Kurokawa shook her head no and said, "yeah I wouldn't go that far, I'm thinking you two might be doing it because she's an elf, knowing what you two do in your spare time, but I guess that would be pretty rude of me to point out especially to the high inquisitor."

Taken back a bit at this attack I felt called out and had to stifle my shock. Finally, though, we started to make our way back to camp to report our findings.

Itami looked at Kurata and said, "it would be best if we take the road through Coda village."

Kurata nodded and said, "you know what lieutenant we might run into a dragon sooner than a cat girl" earning him a hit to the head from me as I shouted, "don't jinx it"?

Stopping in coda village we let the village owner know we ran into a dragon that torched an entire elf village and in horror the man said, "dear god! The entire village has been destroyed."

Itami translated to the man that they saw the flame dragon and I picked up on it using Argus to run the language through all the speech programs to pick out discerning words and vocabulary and run it through my neural implants.

As I felt my brain fill with the knowledge I chuckled saying, "thank god new recruits get these implants from the get-go…"

Looking up to the sky I kept an eye out for the dragon when I heard to the village elder say, "besides we need to get out of here ourselves."

Itami looked concerned and said, "your leaving?"

The man nodded and said, "once a flame dragon gets a taste of human or elven flesh it will be back for more."

Everyone started to panic and rush around packing things up. I rolled my eyes and spoke the native tongue fluently saying, "I shall assist" before rushing around to help pack things up.

One of the kids looked at me in fear and said, "thank you mr…metal man."

Taking off my helmet and hood I smiled and said, "call me high inquisitor little one" before helping the kid take his bags and put it on the caravan.

Old school then looked at me and said, "High inquisitor we need your help an axel on the lead cart broke off and I need help getting the cart off one of the injured!"

I nodded my head and said, "it will be done sergeant major!"

Lelei La Lalena POV:

I felt a cold breeze brush by me as I watched these men in green run past us, but this wind didn't just feel cold…it felt like death as I looked to see one of the green men the others called sergeant major rush with a man in strange metal armor with more strange weapons. I felt a breeze of death from this man as if he was the embodiment of death and yet I could also sense pain and suffering inside of him, whoever this soldier in black was, he would be someone I think would make for a decent friend.

Back to jango pov:

Looking at the lead cart I saw the injured girl and shouted, "kurokawa that's your expertise!"

Kurokawa nodded and I watched as a horse was about to kick a girl with cyan blue hair who had also gone to the same girl as kurokawa.

Getting my dual SMGs ready, I was about to shoot the creature when Old School beat me to it and shot the horse.

Groaning I said, "damn it old school."

Old school chuckled and said, "sorry High Inquisitor."

Sighing I started to help move the carriage and everything while Itami looked at me and said, "high inquisitor can I talk to you for a second?"

I nodded my head and followed him and said, "what's up lieutenant?"

Itami looked at me and said, "the local lord of this land…they brought their entire army to Alnis hill and now there is now one defending these people or the lord's capital what's the plan?"

Scratching my head I said, "…see what the people want if they have a place to stay, we keep them with us till we reach a junction where we part ways, if they don't have a place, we take them back to camp Alnis with us as refugees."

Itami nodded and said, "it shall be done high inquisitor."

Soon we were back on the road to Camp Alnis. Sure, we had some headships and things had to be left behind, but this was war I didn't think of it much cause I wasn't really worried about it. Then I saw her.

Nearly 50 clicks out dressed in gothic Lolita fashion and carrying the biggest halberd ever was a woman maybe of 15 years in age.

Getting on the comms I said, "stop the cars we got hostile up ahead" before pulling out the dober cannon.

The lady chuckled as she approached us saying, "from where do you fine ladies and gentlemen hail and what is that strange little contraption?"

Itami over the comms said, "High inquisitor this seems to be your expertise I'll leave the negotiation to you."

Before I could say anything or even fire the children, we had been carrying in the jeeps rushed out shouting, "it's the oracle!"

Curiously I holstered my dober cannon and said, "Itami I'll handle this just tell the others to holster their weapons and keep safety on" before leaping off the jeep and onto the ground.

Noticing how the people were praying to her I started to draw my own conclusions that this lady was in fact an emissary of sorts made an apostle, I mean the children were calling her oracle so that had to mean something.

The lady noticed me and instantly I felt this connection. People would call me crazy, but it felt like…like we were meant to meet this day.

With a seductive smile the lady approached me and the jeeps along with the children and said, "so who are these strange men you are with?"

One of the kids looked at said, "they came to help us! These are the good guys, and this man is the high inquisitor!"

The lady looked in awe of the jeeps and my armor and said, "and your certain they're not taking you somewhere against your will?"

The lady then looked over the jeeps and said, "so how is this moving without any horses."

The kid shrugged and I said, "that's classified."

The kid laughed and said, "its way more comfortable than a carriage though."

The lady gave me a seductive look and said, "really more comfortable than a carriage?" before licking her lips and saying, "well I would just love for you to show me just how comfortable the ride is."

The lady looked like she was about to open the door, but I stopped her and said, "Ma'am forgive me for the inconvenience, but I can't allow you into our jeeps" perfectly in their native language.

The lady then got on top of the jeep with me, and I pretended to ignore her while Itami and the others gripped about how I was lucky.

The lady looked at me and started to try and grab my weapons, but I stopped her every time.

The lady smiled and said, "the scent of death is heavy on you~ just what kind of soldier are you."

This caught me off guard a bit as I looked at her and said, "the one who doesn't take pleasure in- "

Before I could finish that sentence Argus shouted, "High Inquisitor you're not gonna like this! Flame dragon heading your way!"

This shocked me and I shouted, "Itami we got company baring from the west! Flame dragon!"

This shocked Itami who looked out to see the dragon as well. This seemed to send everyone into a panic as the dragon started to attack the caravan.

Itami shouted, "high inquisitor we need a diversion!"

Nodding my head, I stood up and activated my wings, unholstering the dober cannon I shouted, "very well brother leave it to me!" before firing up the jets and rocketing forward into the sky.

Gaining the dragon's attention, I shot a volley of high impact thermal rounds into it which seemed to leave dents but nothing strong enough. This shocked me as the dragon looked directly at me and scorched me. The fire was not as painful as I thought it would be but the plating on the armor probably was the reason, I wasn't roasting. Getting out of the fire I got on the comms and said, "my rounds aren't doing much Itami!"

Itami shouted, "yeah and .50 Cals aren't doing anything either!"

The dragon then turned its attention to the transport and then suddenly Itami shouted, "High inquisitor the eyes! Aim for the eyes!"

Noticing the arrow lodged in its other eye I snicker and holstered the dober cannon and started firing off my SMGs into it causing it great pain as it started bleed before pulling out the dober cannon again and loading up one of the hellfire rounds and shooting it into the arm.

The blast nearly missed but I noticed from the back of the jeep itami was in that girl in the dress jump out and throw her axe at the dragon causing a big explosion of purple lightning which made the dragon of balanced and land right into the shot taking its arm clean off and even cauterizing its wound. Enraged and in pain the dragon flew off in fear.

Landing near the jeeps I took off my helmet and wiped away the sweat as Itami rushed me and said, "Bro are you okay! You were engulfed in that dragon's fire!"

Chuckling I said, "did you forget? Dark legion specializes in equipment meant for drop from orbit, so I think dragon's fire is no match for tungsten steel and hyper diamond coating, but yes, I am fine thank you for checking."

Looking mournful at the people who died I said, "Lieutenant…lets set up a burial for these people…"

Itami nodded and we spent the night digging graves for each person.

As each one was buried, I would pull out a gold coin and mutter, "may the ferryman bid you safe passage to heaven…"

When I finished Itami and I noticed a girl who was crying and comforted her and once she stopped crying Itami pulled me aside and said, "most of the survivors have relatives they can stay with nearby, a few others have arrangements for shelter and lodging."

Concerned I said, "what about the rest? They sure they'll be able to find something? If there on their own out there"

Itami nodded and said, "I hope so, but we got a bigger issue to deal with."

Looking at the survivors I said, "a lot of kids and old folk lost families…they'll need some place to stay."

The village elder approached us overhearing our conversation and said, "it may seem heartless, but we have our hands full trying to find another place to live we simply can not stretch ourselves any thinner adding someone else."

Itami looked even more concerned saying, "your leaving…without them?"

The village elder looked at us taking off his hat in respect and said, "we thank you, you'll always have our utmost gratitude" before parting ways joyfully.

Kurokawa then looked at me and my brother and said, "so what are we gonna do now?"

I looked my brother and said, "its your OP so your paperwork brother, but I think we should take these people as refugees."

Itami gave me a chuckle and said, "not test subjects brother?"

I shook my head and said, "there will be a time and a place to study these people but…they need food and shelter, give them the speech I'll radio command let them know what's going on."

As I walked away Itami took a deep breath in and said, "okay so more refugees I am okay with that", before looking at the people and saying, "don't you worry it will be fine" before throwing up peace signs.

Smiling I got on the radio and said, "Alnis command this is High inquisitor Itami radioing in on the status of our mission."

The man on the other end said, "go ahead High inquisitor we read you loud and clear."

"We made it about 100 clicks away from base camp when we encountered a flame dragon, no military casualties to report but an enormous number of civilian casualties, we have refugees with us. Over." I said.

Shocked the man said, "Noted High Inquisitor I'll make sure to make arrangements for a refugee camp" as I did, I felt the eyes from that Lolita staring me down like she was curious about me…the eyes of a predator.

Smirking I said, "preparations are being made brother!"

Itami smirked and said, "alright people let load it up we're heading back to Alnis hill!"
