AN: This is my second go at adding magic into twilight. We see vampires and hear about werewolves, but nothing about witches; come on. My first attempt was terrible. Trying to add a whole in-depth and complicated magic world with a trading system was a bad idea for a new writer.

So I will be combining a few magic systems from some stories I have read, which are:

Witches of Twilight and Half-light, please go check them out.

I think they work well together with the magic system in Witches of Twilight have Laylines that dictate areas of magic, were as Half-light, the magic comes from within her and uses her own energy.

So that is how magic will work in this story. She can use her own energy, which takes time to restore and can cause her to pass out or even die if she uses too much or if she is near a Layline, she can draw her magic from that, and big spells will require the use of a Layline.

Preface

She had never thought about how she would die. After all, why would you? It's a morbid thing to think, not to mention she was still young, had magic and survived a harsh childhood.

Her childhood had made her quite selfish; growing up in care homes, you learned quickly that it was survival of the strongest it was here Emily found her magic for the first time.

An older boy had tried to steal her food. As he pushed her down, Emily felt a strange energy, flowing through her body, and the moment it touched the boy's hand, the boy flinched away in pain. With her newfound power, Emily used it a lot on the other kids in the care home to protect herself from the older and crueller kids.

Unfortunately, this caused all of the other kids, even the ones that were her age and didn't try and attack her and even some of the staff to fear her and do their best to pretend that she didn't exist. Emily realised the danger she was in when she overheard some of the staff talking about what to do with her.

They had seen her practising with her powers that she had decided to call magic. She had been able to move things around without touching them, as well as create fire and water from nothing. The breaking point for the staff was when she used her magic to badly injure Ryan, a 15-year-old kid in the care home with drug addiction. He had attacked her while high, and she had used her magic to badly burn his arms and even break his leg.

Hearing the staff talking about having her committed, Emily panicked as images of being experimented on or dissected flashed through her mind. So at the age of ten, Emily ran away from the care home, never to return.

Living on the streets was tough, and Emily learned quickly that any sign of weakness would be exploited and to trust no one. During this time, she learned and more about her magic, and reading fantasy stories in the library helped her imagine ways to use her magic.

Thanks to stories like Harry Potter, the idea of making things appear out of thin air took route in her mind. Emily soon had begun to practice conjuration. It was a hard thing for her to do, and she started off small, but eventually, she had gotten to the point where she could make clothes out of magic. It was during this practice that Emily had learned one of the rules for her magic.

That was that magic took energy, and if she overused the amount of energy that she had in her body, then she would pass out. Emily hadn't tested it beyond that, but she felt pretty sure that if she did a really big spell that took all her energy, then she would die.

Emily then moved on to trying to make money which was super easy, in terms of how much magic it cost to make the money; the difficulty in it was the detail required for the money, something that most of her clothing didn't require. But Emily persisted.

She knew that she needed money for everything, as making food by magic cost the same amount of energy that it gave; all it did was get rid of that hungry feeling.

Emily then started to use her magic to hide from others on the streets and keep dry even when it rained. Emily started to realise her magic seemed to be limited by imagination and the energy required to do what she imagined. Sure, there were limits, but Emily was also, so there were ways around the energy limit in her body.

And so Emily spent most of her time in the libraries; not only were they warm, but it also allowed her to look up things as and when she pleased and hopefully a way to get around the energy limit of her body.

Emily knew that she couldn't go to school as they would send her back to a care home. So the library is where she lived. Emily used her magic to make sure that no one asked her what she was doing there constantly and that they wouldn't notice her staying there at night.

She had gotten drawn into fantasy books. After all, she was a witch, or at least she called herself a witch. Emily had got interested in runic languages as they cropped up in magic stories from Harry Potter to the last magician, and she didn't see why she could use them, so she began experimenting.

Emily's life progressed like this for the next five years. She would find ideas in books and then try them out in real life. Some of them worked, and others didn't. All the while, Emily kept looking for some way to either store her magic or to have more.

Her first breakthrough came from a story where people used precious gemstones to store magic, and they could use it as a battery in magic arrays or when in combat. With this, Emily wasted no time in going to buy a diamond ring. It turned out that diamond rings were really expensive, so Emily had to buy one with a very small diamond in it for her testing. No doubt, it was an odd sight seeing her buy an Engagement ring at 16 years old.

She also bought a second ring from a different shop, this time with a lab-grown diamond, to see if there was any difference. With that, Emily went to a secluded place to test both of the rings. Both of the diamonds were able to store magic for her, and it took her over two weeks to test both rings. The lab-grown diamonds could store about two times her full energy.

As for the natural diamond, it stored over ten times her normal amount of magic but also took her over a week to fill, and each of those days, she was so weak and tired that she couldn't do more than read. Emily wasn't sure, but she felt like the bigger diamonds would be able to store more magic, but filling them would take forever and cost a lot of money.

For now, Emily was happy with the two rings that she had gotten. After all, she now had 13 times the amount of magic at her disposal should she ever need it for an emergency. In the meantime, she went back to looking for another source of magic; if she could find one, Emily would steal the biggest diamond that she could find.

Her love for fantasy novels never died down, and she was planning on becoming a writer at some point. At the age of seventeen, Emily discovered the Twilight series and fell in love with the story or elements of the story vampires were something new to her, after all.

She had gotten bored of witches and magic as many of them get it wrong or at least compared to her own magic, and she had read hundreds of books on magic at this point, and she wanted something new. So vampires, shapeshifters, and werewolves had gotten her attention, and Emily wondered if they were real. After all, she was a witch with magic, so who was to say that Vampires and werewolves were not real as well.

Then again, Emily had never met any other witches, so maybe she was the only one, but the idea of a family that was as close and supportive as the Cullens made her heart yearn for the same thing one day.

Not to mention how much Charlie loved Bella, even if he wasn't very good at putting it into words. Emily longed to have someone love her like that. But she knew that she either had no family or her parents never wanted her as she was found on the porch of the care home with no letter or anything.

However, reading the story, she was not very impressed with Bella, Edward, or the Cullens in some cases. Many of the things that Edward did were one hundred per cent creepy, like watching her sleep and sneaking into her house. She hadn't ever had a boyfriend, but if they acted like that, then they would have to go.

Bella was shown to be highly independent and looked after her mom, so letting other people make decisions for her seemed odd.

As for the Cullens, they should have known the moment Bella knew about them being Vampires that she no longer had the option to be human. There was no way that the Cullens could avoid the Vultori for the rest of time.

Even if Bella lived her whole life as a human and died naturally, they would still be punished for breaking the law.

It's funny the things that go through your mind as you are dying, isn't it?

Emily let out a cough as blood pooled in her mouth. She hadn't expected to be stabbed in a mugging. After her time in the care home and on the streets, along with her magic, she had never really taken other people as a real danger. The man didn't say anything; he just pulled out his knife and stabbed her three times before she could even cast a single spell.

It was strange how the world seemed to slow down, but I couldn't quite keep up with the world around me at the same time. I could feel my body getting colder as time went by. Someone above me was trying to talk to me, but my body seemed so heavy I couldn't say anything.

As her eyes closed, Emily reached for the magic in both her rings before wishing in her next life, she could have a family like Bella and the Cullen's.

Emily woke up, confused, and started to look around. Her body felt weak and heavy. It took all of her strength to lift her arm up and pull off the bedding before she noticed the first strange thing.

Looking at her arm, she could clearly see that it was the arm of a young child, maybe someone between the ages of 6 to 9 years old.

This made her even more confused. Wasn't she just dying on the floor of a street in the middle of a city? Looking around the room, she was trying to figure out what was happening and where she was; the room had two beds, with the other one empty.

As she looked around, the door to the room was pushed open, and a young girl walked into the room.

The girl had really long auburn hair that flowed down her back. She had a straight nose, full lips, a slightly heart-shaped face and large doe-like eyes that were no doubt really good at giving the puppy dog look.

She was sure that the girl would grow up to be very pretty in the future, but Emily didn't recognise her or where she was. She hadn't expected to wake up, and when she did, she was confused and was expecting a hospital, and this clearly wasn't a hospital.

"Sister, your up?" the girl asked in surprise.

"Just," she replied back instinctively. It took a moment before she realised what the girl had asked her but ignored it as she tried to work out what was happening.

Her head was hurting, and she seemed to have memories that weren't her own as she saw that the girl standing at the edge of her bed was the same one in her memories.

Ordinary people would be panicking, but having magic had made her used to strange situations. Like when she was learning to teleport, she ended up in many bizarre and dangerous places like the Artic or the middle of the Amazonian forest or the desert island.

Emily quickly soon learned not to panic when something went wrong, as it never helped, and it just made her panic more and more.

"Lay back down. I have brought you some soup," the girl said as she placed a bowl of tomato soup on the bedside table.

Laying back down, Emily looked around and saw a few posters, no doubt done by the other girl on the wall next to her bed, with two names on them Bella and Emily. Ironic, Emily thought to herself. One of her last thoughts was of someone called Bella.

"Thank you for the soup Bella," Emily said, looking at the bowl of soup.

"No problem," Bella said, pulling a chair next to Emily's bed and picking up the bowl and blowing on a spoon full of soup before offering it to Emily, who, with some effort, ate the spoon full of soup.

Emily was surprised at how much Bella could do on her own. Sure, Emily had been able to do the same, if not more, at around her age, but she didn't have parents to look after her.

Bella spent the next ten minutes feeding her soup as she was too weak to eat it on her own. It was something no one had ever done for her before. In the care home, they didn't care if you got ill, and they will just leave you to get better. If you were lucky, they may bring food to your room, but that wasn't the case for Emily.

As for when she lived rough on the streets, she had no other option but to curl up into a ball and hope for the best.

"Thank you," Emily whispered after eating all the soup.

"Are you feeling better? We couldn't even wake you up for more than a few minutes in the morning," Bella asked, still looking worried.

"Ya, I just feel really weak. What time is it?" Emily asked.

"It has just gone past 2. Mom should be home in an hour or two." Bella said, so Emily guessed she meant 2 in the afternoon.

As Emily learned more about the situation, she wondered if this was due to her last wish of wanting a family. After all, she had used all the magic in her rings. She had always wanted parents and a sister, and with magic, maybe her final wish had come true.

"Okay," Emily said as she relaxed into her bed and watched as Bella picked up the bowl and left the room to clean the bowl.

Emily wasn't sure how old Bella was, but she looked around 7 or 8 years old. Now that she was alone, Emily closed her eyes and tried to reach for her magic.

Emily felt a thin barrier that was blocking her magic. With a slight push, the barrier buckled, and she felt her magic flowing back through her body; the familiar feeling brought a sense of comfort to her. She wasn't sure if that barrier was on her magic the first time due to how she had gotten it in a moment of fear and anger.

A smile formed on Emily's face before she frowned after getting over the joy of having her magic again. Emily soon realised that her magic power felt so weak compared to what she was used to.

She had spent years looking for ways to increase her magic other than storing it in gemstones, and she noticed that as she got older, the amount of magic in her body had grown as well.

What used to be an enormous lake with thick rivers flowing from it into her body was now a tiny puddle with a trickle flowing from it. Any thoughts of using magic to give her body a boost left her mind.

She doubted she could do more than lift a feather with the magic she had at the moment. Emily hoped that it was due to this sick body and that once she recovered, her magic would improve somewhat.

Emily closed her eyes and decided to just rest, she was too weak at the moment to do more than look around, and the room was quite empty, and she didn't want to ask Bella any more questions. If she started to ask Bella what day, month and year it was, then it would cause her to panic, and she would tell their mom. It was a strange thing to think that she now had a mother.

The time seemed to pass so incredibly slowly for Emily as she lay in bed. She wasn't sure where the proverb a watched clock never moves came from as there was no clock in this room, and time seemed to be moving at a snail's pace.

As she lay there, it dawned on her the massive chance that she had been given. She now had the opportunity to have a family, and she could also go to school.

Something that she missed out on in her first life, meaning she could actually learn and not just read random books in the public library.

"Bella, Emily, im home," a voice called out as Emily heard a door shut.

"Mom!" Emily heard Bella shout excitedly.

Emily didn't bother trying to shout as she knew that was beyond her at the moment. Even if she was feeling slightly better than when she first woke up, maybe her magic was having a passive effect on her illness. She didn't get ill very often once she had gotten magic, and when she did, it was never for more than two days.

Emily could hear them walking towards her room, and hope and excitement bloomed in her chest, making her feel like it would burst out of her chest.

Emily watched as a young-looking woman walked into the room. She has medium-length brown hair and innocent, childish blue eyes. Emily gave a nervous smile to the women that walked into the room.

"How are you feeling?" the woman asked, sitting down on the edge of the bed and placing a hand on her forehead.

"Better," Emily replied with a sore throat.

The woman, who Emily guessed was now her mother looked worried for a moment after hearing her voice.

"I will get you some more medicine," she said before leaving the room.

Emily made a note to think of her as mom as much as possible from now on. The sooner she adapted to her new life, the better it would be for her.

The woman soon came back with a bottle and a spoon that she poured the medicine onto and then brought to Emily's mouth. Emily reluctantly opened her mouth and swallowed down the medicine, trying her best to keep a grimace off her face. This woman's eyes were full of worry, love and care for her, which made Emily feel warm and fuzzy.

"Right, I have got you some soup. Just give me a minute to heat it up for you," the woman said, kissing her head before she left the room again.

Bella came rushing into the room. "Mom says we can eat dinner in our rooms for tonight," Bella said excitedly.

"Let's make sure that we don't get any on our beds," Emily said, her voice still sounding hoarse.

"I hope you're better in the morning. I don't want you to miss school," Bella said, looking sad.

"I will try my best," Emily said with a small smile.

Bella's face lit up with happiness as she ran over to her bed and jumped onto it, and sat waiting for dinner.

Emily closed her eyes and tried feeling her magic again, only to be disappointed that her magic didn't seem any stronger. Emily did her best to calm herself down. It had only been a short time since she first checked her magic.

Soon their mother brought them their dinner and watched them both eating with a smile on her face.

Emily moaned as she was woken up by bright sunlight shining on her face.

She noticed that her body felt much better than yesterday. Looking around the room, she was a little surprised to see that the room was empty, with a letter on the bedside table for her.

Emily reached over to read it and found herself smiling at the letter. Her new mom had taken Bella to preschool and would be at work until school was over, and the next-door neighbours would be checking up on her every hour. From what she had seen, it seemed her family was a single-parent family with two kids to provide for. Emily knew that her mom no doubt couldn't take much time off work.

Emily stretched out her hand and directed her magic into her hand, and a ball of fire burst into existence. Emily smiled at how much her magic had recovered before she felt tiredness creeping up on her and snuffed the flame out in her hand. Her belly let out a growl and Emily slipped out of bed and made her way though the house to the kitchen.
