Summary: When Donna's examination of some mysterious crystals attracts the attention of a subterranean monster, the Lotus Ninjas' underground exploration unearths a Foot Genetics Lab.
In the Crete Fortress, Donna slept peacefully on her bed inside her room.
"Donatella..." A female voice whispered. "Donatella...Donatella..."
Donna opened her eyes at the sound of that mysterious voice. She stood up and looked around, where she surprisingly found herself in a highly technological room. She searched around every corner of her room, but there's no one there.
Then, Donna turned around to see a feminine figure standing right behind her. It was a young teenage girl with a petite stature. She has light blue hair and light blue eyes as she was wearing a pale blue and grey robe-like dress. Donna exclaimed in a startle and quickly backed away.
"No need to be alarm, Donatella." The mysterious teen spoke.
"Who…who are you?" Donna asked.
"I'm a friend." The mysterious teen replied. "I was intrigued when the crystals responded to you. I witnessed how it enhances your powers during your fight with that plant monster. If you want to learn more or who I really am, the crystals will show you the way."
Before Donna could say anything, she started to feel strange energy beginning to grow inside of her. Energy so powerful, she felt like she was beginning to become unexpectedly stronger. She then noticed radiant bluish-white runes appearing all over her body.
"What…what is this?" Donna questioned in fear. "Could that be related…to the crystals she was talking?"
Then suddenly, Donna gasped sharply as she woke up from her dream. She covered her face with one hand while struggling to catch her breath.
In her lab, Donna examined at the crystals floating in front of her.
"If I'm drawn to these crystals, there has to be a logical explanation for that dream I've had. I know there is." Donna said.
The radiating energy flowed around Donna, changing her eyes in a bluish-white glow.
"What's going on with me?" Donna groaned as she placed both hands on her head.
"Hey, D. What'cha doing?"
Donna gasped quietly. After the mysterious energy faded away, she spun around to see Ellie walking up over to her.
"Oh, hey, Ellie. I'm checking out the crystals I've found at the greenhouse." Donna explained. "No matter how hard I've search, I couldn't classify anything like them in the books. It's almost as if the microscopic crystal structures are somewhat ancient."
"Are you okay, Donna?" Ellie asked in concern. "You look a little pale. Having a bad dream today?"
"Something like that." Donna answered.
"I think I'll make you some tea." Ellie said.
"No, really. I'm fine." Donna assured.
Suddenly, the crystals started to glow together, causing them to produce a high-pitched whirring sound.
"Huh?" Donna said in surprise.
"What the…?" Ellie murmured in disbelief.
Suddenly, Donna screamed overpoweringly. The entire lab started shaking all around the mystic sisters. Ellie looked at her older sister in shock. Donna's eyes glowed blazingly in a bluish-white light as she placed her hands on her head when the whole lab kept shaking in a faster speed.
Saldana, Ella, and Lee woke up from Donna's scream as they quickly made their way into the lab.
"Hey, what's going here?" Ella asked. She then noticed her brainiac sister floating in mid-air. "What the…?!"
Donna turned around at her family. She gasped sharply and her eyes returned to normal in a snap. She then felt exhausted and fell down to the ground with a groan, causing her lab to stop shaking.
"Donna!" Ellie exclaimed.
Ellie, Ella, Lee, and Saldana ran up to the unconscious Donna.
"Ellie, what happened?" Lee asked Ellie.
"I don't know. All I know is that I caught Donna not feeling well in the lab." Ellie explained. "I was going to make some tea to make her better, but she stopped me from doing so."
Saldana held her hands and enveloped Donna in a brief glow of healing energy.
"She's unconscious, but she's going to be okay." Saldana said. "But I do sense a mysterious connection between Donatella and those crystals."
Then, Donna moaned weakly.
"It's okay, Donna." Lee said. "We got you."
Donna opened her eyes with a gasp.
"Donatella, what happened?" Saldana asked in worry.
"I'm…not sure." Donna replied in confusion. "I can't exactly explain it, but those crystals are somehow enhancing my magic. The energy signature of the crystalline structure is definitely ancient and, for some strange reason, I have a strange connection to them."
Suddenly, Donna gasped sharply. This time, she unexpectedly detected seismic vibrations coming from outside the city. She closed her eyes and started concentrating on those vibrations, leading her to detect an unfamiliar creature speeding quickly underground. Then, Donna snapped out of the trance.
"Donna, what's wrong?" Lee asked.
"This may sound weird coming out of mouth, but I'm beginning to visual the city through seismic vibrations." Donna explained. "There's something creeping in one of the old subway tunnels. It was almost like…a spider."
"Could it be a mutant?" Ella asked.
"Hard to tell, but it's possible." Donna answered.
"Whatever it is, let's roll." Lee ordered.
The Lotus Ninjas rushed out of the lab.
The Lotus Ninjas arrived at the island behind the Statue of Liberty.
Donna lifted her hands forward and summoned a large red rose from the ground. The giant rose then sucked the four mystics into the hole at the center and sank itself down through the ground that led the girls into the sewer tunnels.
The rose flower bloomed itself, escorting the mystic kunoichis into the area. Ellie, Donna, Lee, and Ella started looking around for any clues.
"Nothing. Absolutely nothing." Ella said.
"I wouldn't count on it." Donna said.
Donna pointed her finger at the strange sticky threads of webs on the wall.
"What is that?" Lee asked.
"Some kind of spider webs." Donna said.
Donna, Lee, Ella, and Ellie gathered together as they looked straight at the webs.
"Well, from the looks of it, it looks larger than regular spider webs!" Ella pointed out.
"Let me guess. You're taking it home because you have never seen anything like it?" Ellie questioned as she placed her hands on her hips.
"I was already thinking of bringing it back home anyway." Donna said. "Just until I can analyze this web and find out just what we're dealing with if we're gonna solve this mystery."
As the Lotus Ninjas walked back to the giant rose, a shadowy figure with glowing yellow eyes peeked from the corner with a growl.
Donna stopped walking when she picked up the same seismic vibration from before. She looked over her shoulder and saw no one coming from behind.
"Donna, what's wrong?" Lee asked her younger sister.
"It's nothing." Donna answered. "Let's go."
Back in the Crete Fortress, Donna started experimenting on the web she collected. Purple energy surrounded the web as a microscope's objective lens projected a large image of silk structures within the web.
"Hmm, interesting." Donna said.
"Good news or bad news?" Ellie asked.
"What can you tell us, Donatella?" Saldana questioned.
"It looks like that creature was spitting out extremely adhesive webs." Donna answered. "Not only it's sticky, but it's strong as steel. Definitely not the same from regular spiders."
"I'm afraid your explanation leads to more questions than answers." Saldana said. "A wise strategist gathers her information before deciding on a course of action."
"All in favor for a fact-finding mission?" Lee asked.
"Me." Ella and Donna answered as they held their hands up together.
Donna, Lee, and Ella looked at Ellie, who rolled her eyes with a sigh.
"Fine." Ellie said, raising her hand up in the air.
Saldana snapped her fingers, conjuring a black pouch bag in front of her. She telekinetically packed the two crystals into the bag.
Donna then lifted her glowing hands in front of the web.
"Hōmingu nanokyatto." Donna casted.
Purple energy surrounded the web strand, floating in the air above Donna.
"Good luck, my daughters. May you return safely from your mission." Saldana said.
The web strand started to fly off out of Donna's lab.
"Let's roll, girls." Lee said.
The Lotus Ninjas ran out of the lab and followed the web strand.
The Lotus Ninjas returned back into the sewer tunnel as they chased after the web strand through the small tunnel. Lee ran up ahead followed by Donna, Ella, and Ellie. They then found themselves inside a tunnel with train tracks and abandoned track cars.
"Uh, Donna, any idea what this place is?" Ella asked.
"Looks like an old abandoned subway tunnel." Donna answered. "Judging from the whole network of them, this tunnel must've been dated back from the early nineteen hundreds."
Unknown to the Lotus Ninjas, a large shadowy creature observed the girls very closely.
Ella, Lee, Donna, and Ellie began looking around for any possible clues. Then, they kept following after the web strand until they finally reached to the end of the tunnel that led them farther into the caverns. They followed the tracks in the ground, where they arrived in a huge sunken cavern.
As the web strand zoomed down the cliff, Donna swiftly jumped down. Lee, Ella, and Ellie followed after her. But neither of them is aware of the creature who has come up behind them.
After the Lotus Ninjas reached the bottom of the cavern, the crystal started to glow from the pouch bag around Donna's waist.
"Uh, girls?" Ellie asked, pointing her finger at the bag.
Suddenly, Donna gasped sharply as her eyes glowed blazingly in a bluish-white light. This time, she found herself in a strange dream. She looked forward to see an underground city up ahead.
"Whoa." Donna gasped. "What is this place? It's amazing."
Donna walked up through the bridge and reached into the city. She looked up to see a large black spire in front of her. As she walked forward, Donna stopped just in time to see a masculine figure in a hooded cloak walking right towards her.
"Huh?" Donna said.
The mysterious man lifted his hand forward, sculpting a large stone tentacle from the ground and sending it to attack Donna.
"Uh-oh." Donna said.
Donna lifted both hands forward and halted the stone tentacle from hitting her, but she struggled to take control of it because the mysterious man gained the upper strength of his power.
Then, radiant bluish-white runes appeared all over Donna's body. She smiled when she felt the mysterious power surging through her.
"My turn." Donna said.
Donna screamed. She finally took control of the stone tentacle and redirected back at the mysterious man.
"Donna! Donna, wake up!" Ella called out.
"Donna!" Ellie shouted as she began shaking her older sister. "Snap out of it!"
Donna gasped sharply when she snapped out of her dream.
"Donna, what happened?" Lee asked in worry.
"I don't know." Donna groaned as she leaned against the rock wall. "You're not gonna to believe this, but I think I saw an ancient underground city."
"An underground city?" Ellie repeated. "In New York?"
"Do you know where it is?" Ella asked.
"Maybe. I could try." Donna answered. She looked down at the bag, where the crystals are glowing again. "Perhaps, these crystals can guide me."
Donna walked forward as Lee, Ella, and Ellie followed from behind. They came to a cliff edge, but the bridge is broken right in front of them.
"Oh, that's just wonderful." Ella said sarcastically.
"How are we gonna cross to the other side now?" Ellie asked.
"Allow me." Donna replied.
Donna placed the crystal back into her pouch bag. She lifted her hands forward, manipulating the earth to form a long stone that connected to the other side of the chasm in order to complete the bridge.
"Nice, D." Ellie commented with a smile.
"Thanks." Donna smiled back.
Donna, Ellie, Ella, and Lee safely walked across the bridge. They came towards two metal doors that was built in front of them.
"Donna, can you open this door?" Lee asked Donna.
"I can try." Donna answered with a shrug.
Donna walked close to the metal doors. She pressed one hand on the doors, but she suddenly detected seismic vibrations coming from the other side. She closed her eyes and started concentrating on those vibrations, leading her to detect four unfamiliar creatures standing inside a mechanical-looking laboratory. Then, Donna opened her eyes and turned her head to her sisters.
"Uh, girls? You're not gonna believe this, but there are four strange animal-looking ninjas in some kind of abandoned laboratory behind these doors." Donna said.
"What kind of animal are they?" Ella asked.
"Uh, turtles." Donna answered.
Ellie, Lee, and Ella cringed with anxious faces.
"What's wrong?" Donna asked. "You're acting that like you know them before." Then, her eyes widened in realization before crossing her arms with a stern face. "Start talking."
"Okay, okay." Ella spoke first. "Remember the time I got kidnapped by those Shadow Ninjas in their cyber armor? I met Raphael when we were locked up like lab rats with Sierra and his new pal Hun. But he saved my life and we escaped before Sierra could splice my DNA."
"And before I met Lady Shade for the first time, I met Leonardo. We fought each other in a sword combat in a…more playful sort of way." Lee explained.
"And when you three laughed at my superhero idea, I met Michelangelo in his Turtle Titan costume." Ellie explained. "We had an amazing superhero team up with Silver Sentry as your girls already saw the news."
"And let me guess. You soultouched them?" Donna questioned with a smirk.
"What?! No!" Ellie, Lee, and Ella answered quickly. They exchanged blank faces before looking back at Donna with sheepish smiles. "Maybe?"
"Figures." Donna said as she rolled her eyes. She then changed the subject. "I'm not sure if I can open this door since it's metal. Despite metal is a variation of the earth element, I haven't master manipulating it yet. But I know a spell that can help us what's going on."
Donna lifted her hands in front of her as Ellie, Lee, and Ella backed away.
"Bideopurojekushon." Donna casted.
A holographic monitor hovered at the center of the Lotus Ninjas.
"This spell can access any archived video logs." Donna explained.
The monitor showed an image of a Foot symbol.
"I recognized that symbol!" Lee gasped. "It's the Foot Clan!"
"Foot Clan?" Ellie and Donna repeated in confusion.
"I thought the Shadow Clan is the only clan we've fought." Ella said.
"Not exactly. When I met Lady Shade, I also met the Foot Clan's leader who calls himself Oruko Saki." Lee explained. "Just like Lady Shade, his aura screams pure evil. Whatever his clan is planning, we're getting to find out. Play it, Donna."
Donna nodded. As she lifted her glowing hand towards the monitor, it started replaying a video that showed a male scientist on the screen.
"Day one, project commences. Master Shredder believes his enemies have taken refuge underground." The scientist spoke. "Our Foot soldiers have been unable to locate them, so the genetic division has been directed to mutate human subjects, so that they can explore deeper into the Earth."
The monitor showed a man lying strapped to a table. His face looked terrified as his arm is connected to a strap. Then, green liquid started pumping into his arm.
"No! Please!" The man begged.
"The subject appears to be in some discomfort, but this is a minor annoyance." The scientist continued.
As the man screamed, his hands started transforming into claws and his mouth filled with sharp teeth when he slowly metamorphosed into a mutant monster.
"Oh my god…" Lee murmured in shock.
"You read my mind." Ellie muttered.
"Day three-forty-five, the experiment appears to be a success. Though the subjects are exhibiting reduced intelligence." The scientist informed.
The monitor showed three mutated humans inside circular chambers filled with greenish fluid.
"Day five-seven-five, the creatures are showing signs of instability…Becoming angry and vicious." The scientist explained. "Certain aspects of the experiment have gone horribly wrong! Have we attempted too much in developing this unnatural life form? Perhaps there are some things…man was never meant to tamper with."
The monitor then showed a mutant creature spitted out green acid that instantly disintegrated a hole through rock.
"Through the generous use of shock restraints, the creatures have been trained to retrieve evidence from their explorations." The scientist added.
The monitor fast-forwarded, where a group of other scientists cheered for their success.
"Day six-nine-nine, the project is a success! Our creatures have found evidence of habitation underground, which has been turned over to Master Shredder. I've been told he is quite pleased." The scientist said with a smile.
The monitor showed the scientist looking at the screen with a dissatisfied face.
"Day seven thirty-three, the settlement we found is not what Master Shredder was searching for. He has pronounced the project a failure. We have been ordered to shut down the operation, and destroy the creatures." The scientist said sadly.
The monitor fast-forwarded, where the entire laboratory is engulfed in smoke, fire, and chaos. Several scientists began screaming as they are running for their lives.
"The creatures have freed themselves! They are more intelligent that we ever dreamed!" The scientist spoke. He then came up to the screen with a battered face as he ignored the and fire roaring behind him. "They…they have been manipulating us all along, waiting for their moment to escape!" He looked up to see one of the mutant creatures coming at him. "No, no, keep away!"
The scientist screamed as the video log ended, causing the holographic monitor to vanish into thin air.
"All those who want to go back home say 'me'." Ellie said.
"Me." Ella said.
"Me." Donna said.
"Me." Lee said. "Let's go."
Ellie, Ella, Donna, and Lee walked back to the bridge until they saw a four-legged spider-like monster standing at the middle of the bridge.
"What the heck is that?!" Ellie exclaimed in fear.
The spider-like monster started crawling after the Lotus Ninjas, who immediately sped away. Lee, Donna, Ella, and Ellie ran away as fast they can. Ellie looked back to see the spider-like monster coming quick in their direction.
"Girls, that thing's gaining on us!" Ellie screamed.
"We can see that, Ellie!" Ella yelled.
Donna closed her eyes and started unleashing seismic vibrations, where she saw an unknown room that could lead herself and her sister to safety.
"Girls, I have located another lab room! We can be safe there!" Donna shouted.
"Lead the way!" Lee ordered. She looked over her shoulder to Ellie and Ella. "You two, slow that thing down!"
"Roger that!" Ella and Ellie nodded.
Ella and Ellie stopped running as they unleashed an instantaneous assault with fire and air energy that drove the spider mutant creature far away from them.
Then, the Lotus Ninjas arrived through the open door of a laboratory room, where it has a metallic floor that shows a squared grid design and pale grey walls crossed over by several pillars. They quickly closed the vault door shut before taking deep breaths on the floor.
"Whew, that was a close one." Donna said.
"You can say that again." Ella agreed.
Suddenly, the spider mutant creature started damaging the door.
The Lotus Ninjas immediately backed away just as the spider mutant creature bursted the door and walked inside with a hissing growl. The mystic kunoichis quickly drew their magic in fighting stances.
"Oh snap." Ellie muttered.
