Goten
There sure were a lot of people out there…
Goten held his little cousin's hand while they waited for the tournament to start. Goten kinda thought Gine was a little young to join, but Uncle Raditz said there was no age restriction so it must be ok.
Goten was kinda more worried about her hurting someone else than anyone hurting her.
"This is going to be so lame," Trunks's complained. And Goten agreed. It's not fair that they had to fight with all the kids when they were stronger than most of the adults that were signing up.
"Well, now we're guaranteed to win the prize money. We never would have won with your parents competing," Clover reasoned, and that was true too. His dad was way stronger than they were. And Gohan! But Gohan probably wasn't going to use The Ultimate so, his dad was the strongest again.
"I don't care about some prize money," Trunks muttered.
"Well, no one asked you. Hey Goten, what are you gonna do with the money if you win?"
"Uh, toys I guess," Trunks always had the best toys, and Gohan didn't like him playing with, uh, Gohan's toys. Saying they were too fragile. That makes more sense now that he's seen Gine destroy her own toys so quickly after getting them.
Clover liked to share, but he didn't really like most of hers.
He had toys too though, so it's not like he could complain. Or he shouldn't at least.
He looked around at the other kids competing. None of them felt very strong. Most of them didn't look it either. Was that mean? He didn't want to seem mean.
They didn't though.
"Uh, excuse me, young man," Goten looked up to see the blond guy who he guessed was in charge, "is that your little sister?"
That was the guy who told everyone what the prizes were. The money, and apparently the winner gets to fight that Me Satan guy that Gohan likes. They also played a "rein-actment of the Cell Games. Goten, didn't think it was very accurate.
He glanced down at Gine, "cousin," he corrected.
"Right of course, if you wouldn't mind, nonparticipants aren't exactly allowed back here so do you have a parent you could leave her with?"
Oh! That's the confusion, "Gine's participating! Uncle Raditz said there wasn't any age min-im-mum, right?" He looked up again and Gine enthusiastically agreed.
The blond man paused and looked through his papers, "well, there is a Miss Gine on here…" he looked through the rest of his papers, "no, no I guess there isn't, is there? I suppose, good luck then."
The man didn't seem very sure about it but continued on.
Trunks muttered something about how she shouldn't have been allowed.
"Who're you fighting first, Idasa?" Goten looked up at some other kids talking.
A blond older kid laughed, "it's a little girl. They're wasting my time."
Goten blinked and looked around. There were only two girls here. Clover and Gine. They were both strong eye than that guy.
Also, why wasn't he wearing a shirt? That didn't seem very comfortable.
He decided to walk closer.
"Hey, little girl. You'd better just drop out now. I'm not gonna go easy just because you're smaller than me."
Clover glanced up, "ok."
She continued her conversation with Trunks.
"Hey! I'm talking to you!"
Clover glanced back over, more annoyed, "I already answered. You don't need to go easy on me. It's a fight. You're not supposed to."
Well, that wasn't really true. Gohan kept telling them that they should go easy on anyone they went up against. But also that they shouldn't really say that because it wasn't nice.
Not that this guy seemed very nice either.
You're not supposed to be mean to people just because they're rude though.
Clover just elected to ignore the guy until they were called out to the ring.
…
Raditz
Raditz sat in the stands near Zan and his sister-in-law. The only reason he was here was for Gine though. He didn't expect her to win, but he hoped she'd get to maul at least one or two little humans before she came up against one of the other three.
Zangya seemed happy to watch too, having flatly denied joining the competition herself when asked.
The children's fights were pathetic. He had no interest in watching the sniveling infants flailing against each other when they clearly had no idea what they were doing.
At least there was a shred of competence in the ring when Clover was up against some blond kid.
His lips quirked up as he heard the crowd's doubts about her being put up against an older kid.
Followed by him flinching away at some overdressed woman's shrieking voice, "Idasa! I'm here! Mommy's watching!"
In her "cheering" she'd knocked the pig man's food into his face.
"I wish they'd match Idasa with a bigger kid," she continued, incompetent and incapable of reading the mood, "who's even let such a little girl enter a fighting tournament?"
Nappa tapped the woman on her shoulder, "I think you'll find my little warrior is more than enough of a match for your child," he said with a grin that spelled danger for anyone with a modicum of self-preservation.
And the shrieking woman surprised him, as when she turned to retort she noticed the size difference between the two of them and shrank away.
That didn't stop her from muttering complaints, however.
…
Announcer Guy
Oh, what a great way to start off the tournaments! The Junior competition was a great addition to the last Tenkaichi Budokai and he was glad they were continuing it. It was great for the kids to be able to have a turn in the spotlight, and it was great for a warm-up for the Tournament proper.
He was a bit concerned for the smallest contestant, but he'd just keep an extra close eye on that match and bring it up with the organizers later.
That being said the breath was nearly knocked out of him seeing the boy she was closest to.
It was a good thing he'd already seen Son Goku signing up because he'd have sworn he'd gone back in time when looking at that boy. He was the spitting image.
Ah but anyway, the Junior competition was going great already halfway through the first round and onto the fifth match of Miss Clover vs Mister Idashi.
And as such a shirtless blond boy and a smaller brown haired girl stepped into the ring.
There were concerns about the size difference but it'd be an insult to any contestant to judge based on that, especially since he's seen much worse odds in the ring.
The match started and the older boy was rather rude to his opponent but the girl didn't seem very bothered, merely toying with her powder blue Gi and tightening her ponytail.
Idashi didn't seem to appreciate her indifference and threw the first punch.
Only for it to be caught, "oh, we're starting?" She asked with seemingly exaggerated innocence.
The boy tried to pull his arm away and struggled for a moment until the girl let go, and when the boy swung again, she merely pushed him to the side, well and over the side of the ring.
"That means he loses, right?" She asked, and he affirmed it, announcing as much to the audience.
"Do you see why I wanted to fight in the adults' competition now Clove?" The purple-haired boy asked on the side of the ring and she rolled her eyes.
"We already knew it was gonna be easy, I never said it wouldn't."
He was starting to suspect who was going to be in the finals.
Especially when young Goten was coming up next.
He quickly checked on the other boy before starting the next round.
Ikosa Vs Son Goten. A fourteen-year-old with several Tournaments worth of silver and bronzes, vs a seven-year-old newbie who was visibly nervous.
Even he would have called this match unfair if it wasn't for the familial resemblance.
"Hey kid, don't worry about the crowd, just focus on having fun, alright?" it might be overstepping a tad but he couldn't help but encourage the boy.
The smile the boy gave made it worth it.
The boy looked oblivious to the older boy's taunting.
The older boy looked tired just from his warm-up.
And when he threw a punch, Young Goten blocked it with a finger.
"Are you ok?" The younger boy asked the older.
Ikosa didn't seem to appreciate the concern as he threw a kick, which was blocked with just as much ease.
"Hey, stop fooling around. Can we be serious please?"
"O-ok, so you know a bit of martial arts after all. Not bad for a pint-sized kid," the elder taunted as he returned to form.
But every punch was blocked by the increasingly confused Goten.
"This is it? This isn't very fun."
A single punch was all it took for Young Goten to win a clean knockout.
The final match of the first round came to be and young Mister Trunks looked downright distressed at being matched up against Miss Gine.
Which was rather comical considering she was by far the smallest contestant, seemed easily distracted by the crowd, and seemed to have to focus on walking up to the ring.
He couldn't help but notice the tail flicking about as she walked. He sure did wish he could get more backstory in some of these contestants sometimes.
"Oh this isn't fair. Goten and Clover get easy fights. Why do I have to go against the Tiny Terror? She's Goten's cousin, he should have to deal with this."
Ah, so the distress is caused by a familiarity. That makes sense.
Regardless the fight began and Young Gine was surprisingly, vicious in her attacks, having no hesitation in trying to scratch and swipe at the older boy who desperately dodged.
"What am I supposed to do!? I can't punch her, she's two!" The boy looked at him for an answer.
And, true that does seem to be an issue here, but as there were no rules against it, his hands were tied.
He couldn't help but think he might have been worried for the wrong party as he watched the child's near rampage.
Eventually, the boy managed to pick up the smaller girl and held her as far away as physically possible as he scurried over to the edge of the ring and tossed her over.
"There! I win!" He announced, and true enough, the girl hit the ground and was therefore disqualified.
Unfortunately, she didn't seem to agree as she attempted to climb back in, his own insistence that she'd already lost meaning nothing.
"GOTEN! DEAL WITH HER!" The boy shrieked as the younger boy came up to grab the toddler's hand.
Surprisingly, that seemed to work as the girl quickly calmed down.
Once he was sure that was dealt with he raised his mic, "and with that our first round is complete! Why I certainly cannot wait for what surprises come in the second round!"
There was a moment's intermission to line up the second round before they started up again. And they went just as smoothly as the first until the final match of Clover vs Trunks.
For the first time, the young contestants seemed to be taking their opponents seriously as they stood across from each other before the match began.
And quite frankly it was an outstanding match, beating out anything from the even adults' division of the 24th Tenkaichi Budokai, and only making him more excited for what was to come.
He'd even had to step out of the ring halfway through just to ensure he wouldn't be in the way. Frankly, he didn't want to get in the way of any of those punches.
For a moment it seemed as though Clover had the upper hand until Trunks seemingly got frustrated and shot a beam of light from his hand, knocking her from the ring.
The girl looked down as she realized what happened and gasped.
"Cheater!" She declared, pointing an accusatory finger at the boy, "your mom said no Ki stuff!"
She glanced over at him, but the young man had broken no tournament rules so, he was declared the winner.
That, was amazing! And they were under a restriction too! Oh he could only imagine what a fight with no such restrictions would have been.
The girl glowered at her former, mildly apologetic, opponent before volunteering to bring Miss Gine up to their parents.
There was more of a proper intermission before the finals of the Junior competition before the two remaining boys stood across from each other.
He noted Mr. Satan watching from the side. He smiled to himself at the thought. It was probably a good thing the champ realizes what he signed up for before starting his exhibition match with the winner.
While the girl and the boy seemed to have taken their fight seriously, these two had more of a playful air between them as the match started.
The sight of young Goten in the ring nearly knocked him out by itself. It truly felt like he'd been sent to the past watching the two boys traded blows.
So many of Goten's moves he could recognize from his father's style, only even more skilled from back then! At one point he couldn't even keep track of their movements!
After several bouts of blows being traded that'd have sent any adult forfeiting ages ago the boy separated.
The two boys grinned at each other before Young Trunks smirked.
"Well, I'm already gonna be grounded. How about we give them a real show?"
The seven-year-old blinked, "but then won't I get in trouble too?"
"Probably, but you can just blame me. I'll even strike first, that way you have deniability."
"Deni-a- wha?"
"It means you won't get in as much trouble."
"Oh, ok then!"
He looked between the two boys as his excitement for a true battle rose as they spoke.
Trunks then held his two arms in front of him before an even brighter beam than before gathered and shot out towards Goten.
The boy dodged however the beam continued and head towards the crowd!
His worries were unfounded however as the older boy brought his arms upward which seemed to guide the beam up as well.
He sighed in relief.
These larger stadiums were great for hype, but far more dangerous if they were going to be going back to these flashier techniques.
The younger boy laughed, "my turn!" He cheered as he brought his own hands up and to his side.
Wow! The Kamehameha! That really brought him back!
"Wait, did your dad teach you how to control it?" Trunks asked just as the other boy released the attack.
And sure enough, when he dodged the beam continued on without pause, barreling straight through the roof behind him.
It sure was a good thing there was no crowd in that direction.
"That's a big no," Trunks landed once again, "I guess we should probably tone it down after all, huh?"
"Yeah, sorry!" The younger boy laughed as he rubbed the back of his head.
And he was torn between disappointment and relief. Oh how he wished he could watch this fight in an open environment.
The boys took their fight to the air, so far out of view he was tempted to bring out his mini Jetcopter in order to get a better view.
From what he could tell though Trunks's had Goten pin in some form of hold.
And
Even he was shocked by what he saw next.
Young Goten's hair changed to a bright golden glow before he effortlessly broke free from Trunks.
The boy landed and his hair faded back to black.
If he hadn't seen that with his own eyes-
He shook himself from his stupor before getting back to his duties as announcer.
The older landed as well, none too amused.
"And Clover said I cheated- did you forget?! We're not supposed to turn into Super Sayains!"
They could both do that? Amazing!
The younger just looked confused, "we weren't supposed to use Ki stuff either though…"
"Yeah but that's way different!"
"How…?"
"It just is!"
"Oh, ok sorry then. I won't do it again, promise!"
The older sighed, "well now you're definitely going to get grounded too."
"Aw! But that's no fair!"
"Hey, not my fault."
Every time the two traded words he got more intrigued about the possibilities.
The boys resumed their fight, and much like before he could only follow about half of it.
Young Goten appeared to have Trunk cornered before his hair sparked just as gold as Goten's had earlier and vanished.
He shot a beam at the boy sending him flying off the edge, and no amount of effort could have stopped him from touching the benches.
He waited a moment to confirm what had happened-
"Ladies and Gentalmen! We have a winner! The winner of the Junior's competition is Trunks!"
The boy cheered as his hair faded back to purple.
Amazing. He had no idea what that was but it was amazing.
…
Raditz
Raditz tsked as his nephew lost.
Clover had already brought Gine up and was now complaining to Nappa about how Trunks had cheated in that cutesy tone made to gain sympathy from her father.
It didn't help that the man fell for it hook line and sinker every single time.
"Well, she is correct in that he cheated. They did have pre-established rules after all," Zan reasoned. Which, fine. He cheated, but a real fight wouldn't have any of these silly rules, the tournament concept just didn't make sense to him.
Oh well, at least now it was Trunks against that Mr. Satan. All the better. Goten probably would have just taken pity on the man.
…
Trunks
Trunks waited impatiently as the Announcer Guy announced his next match. The great Mr. Satan himself, oh boy.
Maybe he should have just let Goten win.
The Announcer Guy had to goad the guy into coming out several times before the crowd's cheating finally got him moving.
It was kinda funny just how afraid he was walking up to the ring. It was amazing how the crowd didn't catch on.
He was torn between letting the guy make a fool of himself and getting a move on because this was taking forever.
The man's cheering made him want to lead towards the former.
Eventually, Mr. Satan's attention was back on him and he looked absolutely scared out of his wits.
He looked like he was trying to come up with some solution until Trunks rolled his eyes.
"Oh, would you calm down already? Gohan already told us what's up."
"Gohan?"
"Yeah. You do recognize the name, right? You should."
The guy blinked at him before seeming to realize, "Gohan, that's, that kid. The one from-" he cut himself off, looking back at the announcer guy, who didn't exactly look like he was going to spill whatever he learned here but fine, whatever.
"Right. Gohan. And Gohan seems to like you for some reason so I guess I won't punch you too hard."
The guy blinked and Trunks wanted to groan. How was this even supposed to work? He definitely wasn't gonna throw the match, the guy was too weak to even make it look convincing.
Well, this competition was supposed to be for little kids, and didn't adults like to pretend to lose to little kids?
"Hey I know. I'll just punch you lightly and you can just pretend like you threw the match, alright?" That way they could just get this over with already.
Unfortunately Even his lightest punch was apparently too much as it had sent him flying out of the ring.
Impressive recovery time though since he was up and boasting soon enough. Trunks just sighed as the Announcer Guy announced his win that was definitely totally fake.
Whatever. Except for his fights with Clover and Goten, this whole thing was real lame. The adult's competition would have been way more fun.
