Synopsis
As young children , Song Yan and Xu Qin both lost their parents due to circumstances that changed the course of their lives. Song Yan was forced to see his father die in a drunken frozen state after being betrayed by a friend and a disloyal wife that runs off with a wealthy man. Xu Qin a beautiful fragile child was traumatized after seeing her mother kill her father and then setting fire to their house in an attempt to kill not only herself but also Xu Qin .
Both found solace in their new homes Song Yan was taken in by his Aunt and Uncle that raised him with love and care and considered him their own child and brother to their daughter Zhai Miao. Xu Qin was adopted by the very rich and powerful Meng family guided by the strict authoritarian mother Fu Weng Ying that demanded perfection from not only her real son Meng Yan Chen but also Xu Qin whose personalities were shaped by emotional and psychological abuse they endured at the hands of a mother only interested in the image of societal status and the rules that must be followed.
Song Yan's and Xu Qin paths crossed when they met in high school as Song Yan got captivated by the glance that Xu Qin had thrown his way. Her beauty and shyness so captured his heart that he ignored all the class barriers that separated them and did everything he could to make her his. Xu Qin found happiness and a sense of real love being with Song Yan but as the relationship became known to Fu Weng Ying who forcibly separated the two young lovers by sending Xu Qin to the united states to study while also tarnishing Song Yan's chances of bettering him by not allowing him to enter a university.
In the ten years since their forced separation, both Song Yan and Xu Qin have worked hard to build the life they've always wanted. As fire station captain Song Yan has dedicated his life to saving others. Oddly enough, Xu Qin has also made it her life's work to save others as an emergency doctor. Though working in entirely different fields, it was only a matter of time before fate stepped in to reunite the former lovers. Brought together by their work, Song Yan and Xu Qin find themselves once again throwing glances at each other always wondering what could've of been. Working side-by-side, it's easy to recognize the growth each has made over the years, but there's still so much Xu Qin and Song Yan to work through if they're going to turn this new relationship of theirs into something more.
Throughout the 40 episodes through present day events and flashbacks both Song Yan and Xu Qin delve into their hearts and mind as to what needs to rekindle the flame of love that was never distinguished from the moment that set eyes on each other.
As with many Chinese dramas / love stories the ending though acceptable was not complete to many story lines that were opened were not completed nor resolved. To have a wedding photo shoot but no wedding. How does Meng Yan Chen resolve his weird obsessive love for his stepsister and come to his own realization of what will make him happy. The budding romance of Instructor Jiang Yu and staff officer Li Ming come to play with their social class differences. How does Li Nan deal with the heartache of the loss of the love that she was to afraid to even let it start because of her age difference. The idea of letting bygones be bygones was to simplistic in nature to heal the wounds that were inflicted especially when it comes Fu Weng Yings. I will try to show what the script writers failed to do.
Episode 40 ends with Song Yan and Xu Qin sitting on their roof top of their home looking out at the city landscapes and seeing the vast area of what they have professed to serve and protect…. The story however doesn't end there
Xu Qin: Song Yan… Zhai Miao did a really nice job in putting together our wedding photo shoot … should we let her do the wedding ceremony… I no longer want to wait not being Mrs Song officially….. even though everyone sees me as that.
