Net City. A large, technologically advanced city connected by an ever-expanding network of data. Through this network, the digital age has allowed the city to flourish, becoming a modern-day cyber utopia.
It's the dead of night. Harsh rain clouds darken the city. They let loose a downpour of heavy rain on the city, soaking everything unfortunate enough to be caught within its tide. The city nightlife is illuminated by the faint light from the moon that creeps through the containment of the clouds, the neon lights on display in the various skyscrapers, and the occasional lightning bolt in the sky. Each crack comes out like a clash of titans.
With the downpour, anyone sane in the city would already be safe inside their homes, or under shelter at their nearest watering hole.
Stumbling in the darkness, a lone figure tries to push through the storm. A young man, almost twenty in age, wearing a lab coat, with bright blonde hair, darkened by the endless stream from above.
Despite the city being cast in pure darkness, the figure can see everything through their illuminated bright eyes. His vision glitches out like static, making him lose his footing and stumble on the floor before picking himself up and carrying on.
While trying to force their way through the antagonist winds, thunder cracks again. A guided bolt of lightning is fired toward the fleeing figure. They trip over themself again and fall down as the bolt is about to land.
Before the bolt of lightning can connect with the figure, the attack is blocked by Leomon; a large beast-man Digimon resembling a lion, tall, muscular, beastly, they wield a sword and a strong sense of justice. Leomon uses his sword to deflect the bolt of lightning. The edge of his sword cracks when he smacks the attack away.
The figure picks themself up off the floor. Looking up, they can see the glowing body of Leomon as the raindrops make an impact with his body, "Thank you."
"You can thank me by getting to safety. My comrades and I will hold them back as long as we can," Leomon's deep voice reflects their prideful nature, as well as their current feelings of coming dread, and acceptance.
What sounds like another crack of thunder can be heard in the sky, however, there is no flash. Leomon takes a stand, his eyes fixated on the eye of the storm.
Another crack is heard, followed by two large beings falling from the sky, a beast knight in blue armor, and a large wolf made of fire. They are MirageGaogamon and Fenriloogamon. They crash into the ground, and Fenriloogamon's flames set fire to the building he impacted with. MirageGaogamon corrected his fall, slowing down his descent while still in the air to get back in the fight.
MirageGaogamon charges an attack in the center of his body. With a prideful roar, he calls out, "Full Moon Blaster!" He fires a concentrated, superdreadnought-class blast from the mouth on its chest toward the pursuing enemy in the sky.
It makes an impact, clashing with their enemy. The attack explodes on collision. The force is strong enough to send a shockwave back toward the Digimon. MirageGaogamon is sent back to the ground, leading a wave of exploding windows and shattered glass as they fall.
Leomon looks back at the standing figure in the rain. "What are you still doing here? I said run!" While harsh in their tone, it comes from a place of fear and concern for the human.
Finally taking their advice, the young man tries to flee. Leomon turns back to the sky as his comrades get back up.
Another guided lightning bolt is fired, this time aimed at Leomon himself. He tries to reflect with his sword once again, however, this time there's more force behind the attack. Trying to smack the attack back causes the sword to shatter. It explodes in Leomon's face, knocking him back. He falls back, dropping down to his knees before pulling himself back.
Leomon looks back over his shoulder, making sure the figure he protected is gone. Leomon's body starts to glow. Data glows around him like strands of air. "I won't let you get your filthy hands on him!" Tossing the remains of his sword aside, Leomon forces himself to undergo Digivolution into his Mega evolution. "Leomon wrap Digivolve to…!"
The data expands and grows around him as Leomon's body goes through a metamorphosis. Becoming quadrupedal with two large fangs in his mouth, displaying his more beastly side. As the transformation is complete, the formerly known Leomon calls out, "...SaberLeomon!"
He takes center point with his comrades, MirageGaogamon and Fenriloogamon. "We've got only one chance at this. He becomes vulnerable after taking a direct attack. Charge him!"
Fenriloogamon takes off into the sky, followed by MirageGaogamon. They split up, and MirageGaogamon charges up another attack. SaberLeomon does the same while on the ground. The hairs on his body start to harden, becoming like spikes over his back.
"Infinity Arrow!" SaberLeomon fires the spike-like hairs off his back, sending them upwards toward the sky like a squad of archers. Some miss the mark, only hitting the clouds, while some make contact with a barrier behind them.
Seeing the flash, MirageGaogamon goes in for their attack, "Full Moon Blaster!" The beam of light slams into the barrier, making it glitch out, and become clear as day.
With the barrier down, Fenriloogamon tackles the assailant from behind. Their blue flames become hotter, untouched by the heavy rain. Their comrades can hear them scream out "Ragnarök Howling!" There's an explosion in the sky, one of the bright blue flames that spread across the night like a second sun.
A smoke cloud falls from the sky at a great speed. Both Digimon watches in horror as the dust settles and they see Fenriloogamon being dragged down by the neck. Slammed into the ground, the city street shakes upon impact.
Still hidden in darkness, the entity comes straight for the other two Digimon. MirageGaogamon is knocked out of the sky, and thrown into one of the buildings. Saberleomon takes a stand, preparing another attack.
The young man continues to make their escape, running toward the city canal system. However, the longer they go on, the more they can feel their body succumb to fatigue. Their breath becomes heavy and manic. Their movements are slower, not having the same energy put into his strides. His vision gets worse. The light around the world lands, returning him to the darkness of the city.
The ground shakes beneath him as Saberleomon lands just short of the alleyway entrance. They are badly beaten, with barely any energy left in them. Their body shrinks down as he is forced to return to his Leomon form.
Leomon watches on as they see the one they tried to protect stumble away. Seeing them growing weaker as they move, Leomon tries to get back up but is immediately pushed back down with a foot on their back.
The entity following the figure and the one that single-handled took on the three Digimon stands over the beaten Leomon with the remains of their sword. The entity stabs the tip into its back. Leomon lets out a sudden gasp before meeting his fate. The beats Digimon's body starts to dissolve into codes of data, striping them of a physical form, before becoming nothing.
The unseen assailant spots the young man trying to flee. Using their control of the elements, they fire a bolt of lightning from their fingertips. Before they can take aim, they are tackled from behind by Fenrioloogamon. The attack misses the target and strikes at a wall. However, the sparks from the attack ignite the lab coat they are wearing. They discard the coat with their nametag and focus on running.
MirageGaogamon joins the pile-on in an attempt to keep the human safe from the entity. They are both bodied by the entity. When it turns down the alley, its target is gone.
Turning the corner, the young man's head starts to feel immense pain. Their ears ring out like sirens, and their vision becomes blank. Looking at their footing, they fall off the edge of the railing and fall into a nearby canal. The dark hides them as the tide carries their motionless body away.
