My submission for the Jaded Fanfic Server's July Event! The prompt was "A rare pair relationship from beginning to end..."

Yaoyorozu hated the winter.

It wasn't always that way; as a child, she loved to play in the snow. Tobogganing and skiing down the big hill behind her neighborhood, building snowmen, having snowball fights with the neighborhood kids. Her family even went on a trip to Hokkaido one winter so she could see the amazing ice sculptures, and experience snow that was over even her parents' heads. At one time, she might have even said winter was her favorite season.

That was before she decided to be a hero, though. Before she attended UA…

She drew her cloak around her, shivering and stomping her feet to keep warm. It was early March, and the weather gods decided that they had one last blizzard in them before they let spring bloom. The storm had passed, but today Class A had hero training.

Outside, at Training Ground Omega.

In almost a meter of snow.

The way it sparkled in the trees was beautiful, but the way the wind picked up periodically and blew coldly through the student body was downright torturous. Yaoyorozu was certain she'd seen their teacher Aizawa grin evilly when he announced what was on the agenda for the day.

Because of the way her quirk worked—the items she created came directly out of her body through her skin—Yaoyorozu needed to expose as much of that skin to the air as possible. If she tried to create something under her clothing, it would tear through whatever she was wearing and leave her needing to run to her closet for a quick replacement. That meant her normal hero outfit was cut high in the leg, low in the bust and back, and was sleeveless.

At first, she found it a little embarrassing to be wearing something so revealing in public, but then she saw what some of the other students in her class were wearing–skin tight bodysuits, bustiers, shirtless outfits, and even nothing but gloves and boots–and she quickly got over her embarrassment. If you wanted to succeed as a pro hero, you had to stand out and be noticed, after all.

Unfortunately, it did get cold for a few months out of the year, so modifications needed to be made. Her own "winter version" suit added a heavy cloak for warmth, but underneath it was the same red suit with the wide gap down the middle she always wore. The cloak wasn't nearly enough on such a bitingly cold day, either.

Some students had it better than others. Uraraka was happily cooing at the view, her phone in her hand as she snapped pictures excitedly with Ashido. Both women were wearing thermal tights, gloves, boots, and headgear; they were fine.

Bakugo was well dressed for the cold, though he paced like a caged beast regardless. Since he needed to sweat for his quirk, his explosions were notably smaller in the winter. Next to him, Todoroki stared ahead blankly, not even wearing gloves or a hat. Either the cold didn't bother him, or he was keeping himself warm with his quirk. Yaoyorozu envied him deeply.

Other students hadn't really taken the cold weather into account when they'd designed their hero outfits either. Kirishima was leading a group in calisthenics to keep the blood flowing, despite large areas of bare skin that showed on their bodies. His rival, Tetsutetsu, was right there with him, also bare chested in the freezing temperatures, and matching him on every push-up.

Yaoyorozu knew she should be amongst those classmates, but she could barely work up the energy to stand there shivering. She honestly wasn't sure how the others had the mental fortitude to push past the cold, and keep warm.

Curiously, the one classmate that was showing the most skin wasn't in the group now doing jumping jacks. Instead, she'd wandered over to stand next to Ashido for pictures. Yaoyorozu pulled her cloak tighter around her shoulders, and walked over to stand next to Uraraka, making sure to stay out of the shot. "Tooru!" she called out to her friend. "Aren't you cold?"

A floating glove shifted its pose, giving the peace sign, while its pair made a fist and propped against an invisible waist. "Nope!"

Yaoyorozu blinked in confusion. "But you're naked!"

The hands shifted again, and a boot popped up as she stood on one foot. "Not any more! I got a new hero suit!"

"Oh! Did you take my advice then?"

Yaoyorozu jumped, startled as another voice came up behind her. She turned to see Midoriya, his hands clutching in fists excitedly, as he shouted out to Hagakure.

The gloves shook wildly in the air as Hagakure waved at him. "Yes! Thank you so much! I thought I was going to freeze to death all last winter! It didn't even occur to me to ask them to make me a suit like Mirio-senpai's."

Yaoyorozu frowned, thinking. Mirio-senpai was two years older than them, and had graduated last year in the middle of the war. She remembered he'd once trained with their class; well, "trained" was stretching the definition a bit. In actuality, he'd systematically kicked their collective asses, all while practically naked because he kept phasing through his clothes…

…Wait a minute…

She turned to Midoriya, grasping his shoulders. The boy blushed slightly at the contact, but Yaoyorozu gave him a little shake to make him focus. "I've never worked with Mirio-senpai in the field but you have, right?" she asked, almost desperately. "How does his hero suit work so that he's not naked all the time?" She shook him harder.

Midoriya's head bobbed as Yaoyorozu shook him, his brain still bluescreened as it tried to process what was going on. "H-h-h-hair…" he managed to croak out.

Yaoyorozu blinked in confusion, releasing him. "Hair?"

Hagakure bobbed up behind her, joining the conversation. "Uh huh!" she chirped gaily. "They took my hair, and made me a thermal hero suit! It covers me from neck to ankle, but I'm still invisible! And now I don't have to worry about frostbite on my unmentionable areas!" A glove shot out, hovering just beyond Yaoyorozu's nose. "See? Feel my arm!"

Yaoyorozu reached up a hand, which was turning bright pink in the cold, and felt her friend's arm. There was some kind of fabric there all right, she could pull it slightly away from the proffered arm and feel it between her fingers, but she could see Midoriya right through the other side, still trying to get ahold of himself. "Amazing," she muttered to herself. "And it's made with your hair?"

"Yup!" The gloves now moved together, as if running over a round, smooth surface. "I'm completely bald right now."

"Oh my god, you're bald?" shouted Ashido, who overheard the conversation. "How could you let them do that to you?"

Yaoyorozu could have sworn she could hear Hagakure's eyes roll. "Could you tell before I said anything?"

Ashido looked sheepish. She held a hand behind her head as she laughed, embarrassed.

"Anyway," Hagakure continued. "I was telling Mina at the Christmas party that if I had a wish it would be to not need to be naked outside in the winter. Midoriya overheard me, and he reminded me about Mirio-senpai. He told me how he managed to phase through objects while wearing a super suit made out of his hair. Then he suggested I go talk to Maijima-sensei in the support course to get a suit made, and today is the first day I get to wear it!" A hand ran over her head again. "They had to take so much hair because I needed two suits, one for winter, and one for warmer weather. But it's so worth it!"

Yaoyorozu spun on her heel, and nearly grabbed Midoriya's shoulders again, before she thought better of it. "Do you think they could do the same for me?"

Addressed with a quirk question, Midoriya instantly went into analytical mode, a hand stroking his chin as he considered her current outfit. "I don't see why not," he said. "It's got to be warmer than what you're wearing now."

"And!" interjected Hagakure dramatically. "I have pockets."

Yaoyorozu was sold. Clothing that worked with her quirk and pockets? Truly, it was the dream.

Midoriya turned to Hagakure, smiling broadly. "I'm glad I could help you out with your suit, Hagakure-san!" he said. "But I gotta ask: If your suit is invisible like you, how do you find it in your closet? Or in the laundry?"

"Oh, that's easy!" Hagakure replied. You see, all I have to do is—"

"All right!" shouted Aizawa. "Line up and shut up! Here's your assignment for the day."

The class fell in, and listened intently to their teachers as they listed out the objective for the mission, but Yaoyorozu heard none of it. She was deep in her head, planning for what her new outfit would look like.

Yaoyorozu volunteered to go first during training that day for two reasons: to get out of the cold faster, and she got permission from Aizawa to leave class early to go to the development studio. She was so excited to get started she skipped the locker room entirely, opting to wear her hero outfit.

As she approached the vault door that led into the classroom, she could hear bustling and clanging inside. Good! She hadn't arrived too late, and there would be someone inside to help her! She brushed at her outfit to get out any wrinkles, then firmly knocked on the door twice.

"Enter!" called a deep voice from inside.

Well! That wasn't so bad. Iida had said this door exploded off its hinges all the time! Maybe he was telling some kind of joke? She tugged on the door, which swung freely if heavily, and walked inside.

The room was much larger than she expected, though it was stuffed full of pieces of technology. Cords hung from the ceiling, projects were piled high on various tables throughout the classroom. Students were hunched over at their workstations, focused entirely on their current task. Not one of them looked up as Yaoyorozu walked past the rows of workbenches to the teacher's desk at the back of the room.

The teacher behind the desk was a middle aged man with scraggly hair and massive hands. He smiled warmly at Yaoyorozu. "Hello, I'm Maijima. You're a student in the hero course right? What can I do for you?"

Yaoyorozu returned the smile, bowing politely. "Yes, my name is Yaoyorozu. My hero outfit isn't really optimized to work with my quirk, and I was told that I could speak with you about maybe getting one made out of my hair?"

Maijima chuckled. "Another one, eh? Aizawa really should have sent you all down here last year so we could make adjustments. Seriously, was your classmate naked all last winter?"

Yaoyorozu nodded, a small giggle of her own escaping her lips. "Yes, I have no idea how Tooru managed." She put her arms through the slit in her cloak, and spread them, revealing her hero suit underneath. "I'm afraid I have a similar problem.

Maijima stood, and came around his desk to get a better look at her. "Mmm, I can see that." Then he sighed, shrugging. "Unfortunately, I don't have time to work on it myself like I did with your friend's suit. Finals are coming up, and I need to re-write the test for this semester. However…" He looked up, scanning the room. "Hatsume! C'mere!"

Yaoyorozu blinked in surprise. She recognized the name; Hatsume had made it to the finals at the sports festival with her last year, and she was instrumental in building the defenses around UA during the war last spring. She'd never met her in person, though Midoriya had nothing but good things to say about her whenever he received a new upgrade to his suit. Iida, however, always seemed to shudder whenever she came up in conversation.

From behind a massive doohickey on a workbench, someone waved. "Be right there, Sensei!" she called. "Just gotta solder this last connection and… there!" There was a crackle, and the lights in the room started to flicker. "Whuh oh."

Maijima groaned as the machine burst into flames. "Hatsume! You used up the last fire extinguisher yesterday, and the new ones I ordered won't be here until tomorrow!"

"Sorry Sensei! If you give me a minute, I'm sure I can build one! Ooo! I know!" She dove into a pile of tech off in a corner, and started digging.

Yaoyorozu cleared her throat, attracting the teacher's attention. "Um, I can make one for you right now," she said. "My quirk is 'creation'."

Maijima grinned. "Really? That's great! One for class C fires please?"

Yaoyorozu was surprised at the lack of panic in the teacher's behavior. Come to think of it, nobody in the room seemed to be panicking about the fire at all, or even looked up from their work. She concentrated, and a red canister popped up out of her chest. She caught it in mid-air before passing it to the teacher.

Maijima nodded his thanks, before addressing the growing blaze. "Hatsume, introduce yourself. You're going to make Yaoyorozu-san's new hero suit for her."

Hatsume jumped out of the pile of machines as quickly as she'd dove in. She marched over, offering Yaoyorozu a wide smile. "Hiya! Hatsume Mei at your service!" She stuck out her hand to shake.

Yaoyorozu politely returned the smile, and accepted the handshake. "Yaoyorozu Momo."

Hatsume shook her hand firmly. "New hero suit, eh?" Her eyes dipped down, checking out what she had to work with. "How come? Looks to me like whatcha got will get the attention of the ratings board. You'll shoot up the rankings real quick!"

Yaoyorozu blushed slightly. "Yes, well. It is a little impractical in the winter."

Hatsume stroked her chin thoughtfully. "I can see your point."

"She needs something made out of her hair, like I did for that invisible girl," called Maijima over the sound of the fire extinguisher. He nearly had the blaze under control.

Hatsume's grin widened. "Really? Cool! I wanted to try my hand at making a hair suit! Sensei wouldn't let me help him with the last one."

"You needed to finish your project for class!"

"I've been finished with your entire syllabus for the year since December!" she replied, sticking out her tongue.

Maijima rolled his eyes. The fire was out, so he set down the heavy extinguisher, and placed his hands on his hips. "Well, now you got your shot!" He looked up, and saw another student trying to get his attention. "Look, just help her out, and come to me with the final design for approval before you move on to manufacturing." He turned to address Yaoyorozu. "Let me know if she gets to be a bit… much…Okay?" At Yaoyorozu's nod, he walked away.

Hatsume suddenly clapped her hands together, rubbing them eagerly. "So! You can make things through your body, right?" Yaoyorozu nodded, and opened her mouth to reply, but Hatsume barreled on. "Makes sense why you'd want a hair suit." She circled the other girl a few times, looking at her closely. "Make something appear so I can see what happens. I wanna get a good look with my quirk."

"Your quirk?"

Hatsume grinned, and her irises rotated somewhat disconcertingly. "I can zoom in like a microscope. Maybe I'll learn something about how you do what you do by getting a closer look at it. Oh! And do it slowly please!"

"Okaaaay," she said. She was starting to get an inkling as to why Iida thought Hatsume was weird. She pushed her cloak back over her shoulders, threw back her shoulders, and started to concentrate. Sparkly light shimmered on her chest, before a fifty centimeter tall matryoshka doll pushed its way through her skin. "How's that?" she asked, grabbing the doll with both hands and handing it to Hatsume.

Surprisingly, Hatsume seemed rather taken aback. "Oh!" she cried as the doll was held out to her. "Um… thanks." She took the doll, but her eyes dropped, no longer studying Yaoyorozu's body. "I, uh, I wasn't expecting it to come from there. Um, do-does everything come out of your chest like that? Is that why your neckline goes down… so low?"

Yaoyorozu blinked in surprise. Why on Earth was she acting so shy all of a sudden? And was she blushing? "No, I just need enough surface area exposed to allow it to create. When I made the fire extinguisher, I needed it to come through my torso. I just created the doll the same way because if it's a bigger object, I can slow down the process more." She held out a hand, and another doll grew from her palm. "See?"

Hatsume looked up at Yaoyorozu again. "Cool!" she said, seemingly having regained her composure. "How about through your head? Can you make a doll up there? I wanna see if it goes through your hair, rather than pushing it out of the way."

Yaoyorozu nodded, accepting her logic. She concentrated for a moment, before another doll appeared through the crown of her skull.

Hatsume smiled approvingly. "Great! I think we can make this work then!" She motioned for Yaoyorozu to follow her over to her workbench. "So the first thing I'm going to do is take a small sample of your hair, and make a test swatch. The process for making these suits is fairly simple, but we want to test as we go. The last thing we want is to make you a full hero suit, and it explodes off of your body the first time you use it!"

Yaoyorozu nodded. "Yes, I've had trouble with that in the past when trying to make something large. It was a rather revealing flaw in my outfit I hadn't considered."

The blush returned to Hatsume's cheeks, and she looked away again. "I, uh, I bet your boyfriend didn't mind so much."

Yaoyorozu shook her head. "I don't have a boyfriend."

Hatsume perked up. "Oh?"

"But yes, while most of the boys in our class would be gentlemanly about it if it were to occur again, I would prefer not to flash everyone the next time I try to make a cannon."

"Oh ho ho ho!" laughed Hatsume. "I'd love to see that!" Her face fell, and this time there was no mistake that she was blushing as her whole head turned red as a tomato. "The cannon I meant! Not the…"

Yaoyorozu covered her mouth with her hand as she giggled. "I understood what you meant." She reached up and touched a lock of hair. "So how much will you need today for this test swatch?"

Hatsume got herself under control. "Yeah, about that much should be fine for today. May I?" She opened a drawer and pulled out a pair of scissors.

Yaoyorozu nodded, and bent slightly so that the shorter girl could cut what she needed. She soon found her face rather close to Hatsume's own rather generous bust, her nose practically in the other girl's cleavage. It was enough to make her blush herself.

A quick snip with the scissors, and Hatsume backed up. "There we are! This is plenty for now. I should have it ready in a couple of days."

Yaoyorozu stood, producing a mirror from her arm to check her hair. The missing lock was barely noticeable. She smiled warmly at Hatsume. "Thank you so much for doing this for me. You have no idea how much it means."

"Sure! No problem." She pulled her phone out of her pocket. "Why don't you put your contact info in here, and I'll text you when it's ready?"

"Oh! Yes, of course!" Yaoyorozu eagerly took the phone, and entered her phone number.
